  • 'Hunger Games' Author Suzanne Collins Plans A Picture Book

Year of the JungleIt's not exactly another "Hunger Games" (okay, it's not at all another "Hunger Games"), but the next book to come from YA literary mastermind Suzanne Collins might explain how it is that the author is so eerily good at depicting what it's like to live in a nation at war. Per her publisher, Scholastic, Suzanne is at work now on an autobiographical picture book based on her experiences as the child of a war veteran. The book, "Year of the Jungle," will be illustrated by James Proimos and explores the challenges and fears faced by a young Suzanne during the year that her father spent in Vietnam:

What is the jungle like? Will her father be safe? When will he return? The months slip by, marked by the passing of the familiar holidays and the postcards that her father sends. With each one, he feels more and more distant, and when he returns, Suzy must learn that even though war has changed him, he still loves her just the same.

Needless to say, this looks to be much more of a feel-good journey than the violent dystopian series that made Suzanne famous—it is for children, after all—but for fans of the author, this should be an interesting peek into the history behind her creative process.

"Year of the Jungle" hits bookstores in fall 2013.

It seems the internet still hasn't recovered from the news that "Boy Meets World" stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will reprise their roles as Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence on the Disney Channel spin-off, "Girl Meets World." In fact, a number of famous faces have taken to Twitter to express their own exuberance over the upcoming pilot.

Ben himself responded to the excited missive of songstress Jordin Sparks, inviting her to visit him on set while they film. Now, Ben, if Jordin is too busy singing for her supper, we'd be happy to accept the invitation. Keep us in mind!

  • We're Obsessed With The 'Les Miserables' Trailer

    by Jessica Marshall

Welcome to Obsessed, a weekly feature in which we shamelessly gush about our latest pop-culture preoccupation. This week, we're fangirling over the "Les Misérables" trailer!

There is a castle on a cloud. It is where the recently released trailers for "Les Misérables" live in my mind.

I have bruises on my finger from hitting replay repeatedly to watch them online over and over again. My voice is scratchy from the epic post-tralier-viewing shower-singing session inspired by the catchy music. Which in turn, was followed by a bout of tearful belting of "On My Own" into my hairbrush microphone (accompanied by wistful thoughts of my old high-school crush).

I've always been a sucker for musicals, especially epic ones like "Les Mis," which has spawned several film adaptations, countless live performances and millions of crazed fans singing about the tigers that come at night. I'm not entirely sure why I am so attached to a musical play based on a classic Victor Hugo novel about the wretched folks caught up in the French Revolution in the first half of the 19th century, but I think it has something to do with fabulous music and a captivating story that touches on relatable emotions like unrequited love and patriotism.

Having seen quite a few musicals on Broadway (and memorized quite a few soundtracks), including "Les Mis," one of the biggest issues I've had in the past with movie adaptations has been the awkwardness of forcing something that looks amazing in four dimensions on a stage down to two dimensions on film. Something gets lost in translation, and it really takes dynamic cinematography to spice it up. Otherwise, you just end up feeling awkward watching a flat rendition of something that in its stage rendition gave you goosebumps.

But Oscar-winner Tom Hooper's ("The King's Speech") new adaptation of "Les Mis" looks to be every bit the "musical phenomenon" it is billed to be—if for no other reason than I am obsessed with it after simply watching the trailer. Goosebumps abounded from viewing it in a tiny little window (albeit in HD)! Hugh Jackman goes back to his musical roots, playing the heroic Jean Valjean (he's already getting Oscar buzz!). Anne Hathaway costars as the tragic Fantine, along with Russell Crowe as the nefarious police inspector Javert. Amanda Seyfried also returns to the realm of musical movies as the innocent Cosette, while "My Week With Marilyn" cutie Eddie Redmayne plays her devoted lover Marius. I'm also loving the casting decision to make Sacha Baron Cohen the evil innkeeper Thénardier too.

Come Christmas Day, I will be at the movie theater lining up to see it. I may very well have my hairbrush and hankie in hand.

What did you think of the new "Les Mis" trailer? Are you Obsessed?

  • 'Vampire Diaries' Behind The Scenes With Gabby Douglas

Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas knows a thing or two about pretty presentation, so what better "Vampire Diaries" episode for the pint-sized gymnast to guest star on than one centering around the annual Miss Mystic Falls Pageant?

After a lot of online teasing, including excited tweets from the cast, Gabby will make a cameo on tomorrow night's "My Brother's Keeper," and The CW was winning enough to send over a behind-the-scenes images in which the 16-year-old hams it up with stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev!

Keep reading after the jump for a synopsis of the episode and an another sneak peek snap of Gabby on set!

Synopsis: Caroline (Candice Accola) does her best to be there for Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) in a tough time. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) tries to convince Stefan to help him uncover Prof. Shane's (guest star David Alpay) motives, but Stefan is intent on carrying out a different plan with Klaus (Joseph Morgan). At the annual Miss Mystic Falls Pageant, Elena and Caroline give April (guest star Grace Phipps) advice on which dress to wear, while Tyler (Michael Trevino) and Hayley (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) work together on a secret project, and Damon confronts Prof. Shane with his suspicions. Alarmed by the vivid nightmares he's having, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) turns to Matt (Zach Roerig) for help, but the situation escalates sooner than anyone expected. Olympic Gold Medalist Gabrielle Douglas also makes an appearance.

So, yeah, still no word on whether she'll play herself or a resident of the supe-saturated town, but that's okay. We'd expect nothing less but the top-secretest of secrets from the bloodsucking series.

  • Stephenie Meyer Envisions 'The Host' As A Trilogy

Stephenie MeyerWith the slew of literary adaptations coming to a theater near you in 2013, there's no denying it's a good time to be an author with a film agent in tow. As such, The Hollywood Reporter has compiled its inaugural list of Hollywood's 25 Most Powerful Authors, which includes Suzanne Collins, E L James, J.K. Rowling, and ranking at sparkling No. 10, "Twilight" scribe Stephenie Meyer.

The authoress sat down with the trade to talk all things Edward and Bella, but perhaps even more interestingly, she divulged details about the future of her other supernatural series, "The Host."

Set in a post-apocalyptic future in which alien Souls have taken over the bodies of unwitting humans, "The Host" follows one such interloper named Wanderer, who isn't quite able to shake the Earthling Melanie within. The movie version, which stars Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons and Jake Abel, is slated for a March 2013 release. Until now, Stephenie's played coy regarding a follow-up to the best-seller, though she went on record with THR about her progress and plans for the future.

"I have very detailed outlines, I do a lot of outlining to the point where there's dialogue in my outlines," Stephenie explained of the gestating sequel. "The outline for this is about 50 pages long. It gets very in depth. So I know exactly what's going to happen. There's a lot you can do with a science fiction world. There's a lot of exploration you can do, so there's a lot of different directions."

So many different directions, in fact, that Stephenie intends for the extra-terrestrial tale to span three volumes.

"I have a pretty good end arc in mind for it, so hopefully that will happen," she said.

Focusing on writing has been difficult, though, what with her work as a producer on the film. Then there's the fact that it's become increasingly difficult to separate the characters in her head from the one she sees daily on celluloid.

"I really try hard not to do that. I kind of have to kick Jake and Diane [Kruger] out of my head, and all the rest of them, and go back to the original look of the characters to help out," she mused. "I'll go back and re-read the first novel to get back into the world. I have to do that frequently because every time I get pulled away, I have to immerse myself again and so it's a slow process to get started writing. It goes a lot faster if you can just stick to it."

  • Marie Lu's 'Legend' Scores A Facebook Game

If you just can't get enough of the dystopian world imagined by author Marie Lu in her mesmerizing debut "Legend"—not to mention find yourself on tenterhooks waiting for follow-up "Prodigy," hitting bookstore shelves in January—then here's some news you can use: Marie has teamed up with developer Wicked Sweet Games to produce a free Facebook game called "Cities of Legend"!

According to Publisher's Weekly, the game—composed of puzzles, role-playing and social elements—takes place before the events of "Legend," and gamers can play as one of 10 different characters from either the Republic or the rebel faction. (Choose wisely, kids!)

The collaboration is a particularly apt one for Marie, who in her pre-authorial days worked as an art director in the video game industry. She intends to update the game as her trilogy unfolds.

Of course, "Legend" isn't the first YA novel to score its own Facebook game. You may recall that earlier this year, the social networking site launched "The Hunger Games Adventures" in conjunction with the release of the novel's big-screen adaptation.

For its part, "Cities of Legend" is expected to go live in December. Click on over to the Facebook page to pre-register for a gift on launch!

  • Josh Hutcherson Shares A Big 'Catching Fire' Blooper

After yesterday's sneak peek at the "Catching Fire" cast frolicking in the Hawaiian surf, we know that shooting on the arena action of "The Hunger Games" sequel has officially begun. But when we chatted with Josh Hutcherson in our studios recently, they hadn't yet gotten down to filming the bloody business of the Quarter Quell.

"I'm excited about the arena stuff," he enthused. But with the most action-packed parts of the production still some way off, Josh's favorite scenes so far were the ones that took place back in District 12.

"The reaping stuff was really great," he said. "Really powerful, really well-written... and the extras were awesome, every extra was, like, a really, really talented actor."

Needless to say, we're super-excited to see the emotional first moments of "Catching Fire" (albeit a little scared, too, considering that the first movie's reaping scene reduced us to sniveling, blubbering snot faucets). But we're also a little disappointed about what we won't see: a truly excellent blooper that came when Josh and Jennifer Lawrence filmed (SPOILER ALERT) the scene where Peeta proposes to Katniss.

Said Josh: "Funny story: when we shot it, the actual proposal itself, it's done [so] you don't hear what we're saying. So I was just saying gibberish while I was proposing to her...and the very first time I went to get down on one knee, my pants ripped right down the crotch."

Talk about mean teases; that's just unfair. But maybe if the fans lobby hard enough, they'll include it on the DVD? If you get our meaning? (Hint: The domain name www.ShowUsThePeetaPants.com is totally available.)

Which scene from "Catching Fire" are you most psyched to see on the big screen? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!

  • Blake Jenner Joins The 'Glee' Club And Hump Day Hottiedom

Blake Jenner first caught our attention in the world of reality TV before landing himself in the middle of the drama at McKinley High. Sure, his star is on the rise on "Glee," but we've been sweet on him long before small town fame came a callin'. And, in honor of his newly minted glee club status, we're also naming him this week's Hump Day Hottie.

Check out this dreamy photo of Blake and keep reading for more details about him!

Vital stats: This 20-year-old performer grew up in Miami where he participated in sports and acting, before setting his sights on Hollywood.

Where you might have already seen him: Well, he's had small roles on TV shows like "Melissa & Joey," but he really made people pay attention when he stormed "The Glee Project" earlier this year. He was so great he eventually went on to win the competition and his spot on the current season of "Glee."

Why you should take notice of him now: Currently, he plays athlete-turned-New-Directioner Ryder Lynn on the Fox song-and-dance series. And, as it turns out, he's got a pretty sweet mentor in Finn, who understands what it's like to straddle the line between sports star and theater nerd. To add to the drama, Ryder also has another secret.

"Once you meet him, you see he's a strong person but he has his own vulnerabilities and being dyslexic is one of them," he recently told The Hollywood Reporter. "He's gotten to where he is by himself with a lot of hard work and determination but it's been hard and has been something inside of him that kills him because he wants to do well but he just can't."

Until next week, when we choose another Hump Day Hottie, you can salute Blake by gawking at the photo above!
