- 'Catching Fire': Who Should Play Johanna Mason?
by Fallon Prinzivalli
"The Hunger Games" sequel, "Catching Fire," won't be released until November 22, 2013 (why are they torturing us?), but eager fans are already imagining who should play characters like Finnick Odair—us included. Finnick is clearly the fan favorite, but what about District 7's Johanna Mason? She plays an equally important role in the second novel as well.
As Katniss Everdeen returns to District 12 to the warm embrace of her family and neighbors, the Capitol proves to be not as welcoming. Continually walking a thin line between disagreeing with their ruling methods and keeping her friends and family safe, Katniss—and the reader—are introduced to an army of new characters in an unexpected twist. The most "pure" of them, as Peeta calls her, is Johanna, which brings us back to the Hollywood Crush Casting Couch. Read after the jump to see our picks!
Katie McGrath
Confession: Katie McGrath is my No. 1 girl crush. I absolutely adore everything about her. For those of you unfamiliar with the book, the character of Johanna has some sass to her. At one point in the novel she has a conversation with Peeta where she's naked—aside from a pair of slippers. She also has a "wicked ability to murder," as Katniss says, so while she may be pure, she's also strong. Katie plays Morgana on BBC's "Merlin," and for those of you familiar with the Arthurian legend, Morgana goes from a soft ally to a wicked sorcerer. Katie has proven her abilities to play both a caring friend and powerful female lead.Naya Rivera
When I first read "Hunger Games" fan posts citing the "Glee" star as their pick for Johanna, I was a bit hesitant to jump on board. But the more her character, Santana, develops on the FOX musical series, the more I like her for the role. As an actor, Naya has both the unreserved confidence and the lovable personality for the part.Kat Dennings
The "2 Broke Girls" star is witty and cunning. While she may be known for her comedy, she has a depth to her that is needed for the role of Johanna. She also makes her roles relatable. This is an important aspect for Johanna because of certain events that happen later in the novel that will greatly enhance the development of her character. So while my No. 1 pick still stands as Katie McGrath, I would be very happy if Kat got the role.Related:

Переслать - 'Vampire Diaries' Stars Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley Will Take A Dive For Upcoming Episode
by Ryan J. Downey
The cast of "The Vampire Diaries" has endured a lot for their art: fast-paced stunts, fake blood, corsets, shower scenes, you name it. A crucial flashback episode coming later this season will require perhaps the most demanding training thus far: SCUBA lessons!
Having already shown us the 19th century, the '20s, "1912" and more, "The Vampire Diaries" will soon flashback to that fateful night when Elena (Nina Dobrev) lost her parents on the newly restored Wickery Bridge and was rescued by vampire Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). We don't know who will be playing Grayson and Miranda Gilbert just yet. But we do know there'll be lots of underwater work.
"I didn't [do the SCUBA training] yet," Paul told us when Hollywood Crush caught up with the cast at the PaleyFest in Los Angeles. "I actually think I am going to go get certified. I haven't read the episode. I don't know what's going to happen. I'm actually learning things from you guys!
"You're telling me that there's going to be some sort of SCUBA action, and so I'm kind of taking your word for it," he joked. "No, I know I will [be going underwater in the scenes] because I've been practicing. They've been putting me in some diving lessons or whatever."
The casting call for the two actors who will play Elena and Jeremy's parents said they must be willing to become certified in SCUBA diving. Nina was tweeting about going SCUBA diving as far back as the summer of 2010 "(Going scuba diving in the great barrier reef today!! ahhh! so excited. Wish me luck - lets hope a Shark doesn't decide it wants me for lunch." A few months ago, she tweeted a picture of her SCUBA certification card from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. "I'm already PADI certified," she told us excitedly. "I got certified a little while ago. It's one of the coolest things that I've done, and it's really cool to finally get to use it for work, not just for pleasure. So it'll be fun."
Unfortunately Mr. Wesley doesn't share his co-stars enthusiasm for the water. "Paul is sort of afraid of water," she revealed.
"I'm terrible underwater," he admitted readily. "So it's actually very stressful."
Whatever is going to happen in this episode, expect it to be a monumental revelation of some sort. Executive producer and showrunner Julie Plec has long maintained in interviews with Hollywood Crush and elsewhere that she doesn't see any reason to flashback to the past on the show unless it's going to reveal something about the present that drives the story forward in some fashion. But as for now, the cast is as in the dark as we are.
"I haven't read the episode so I have no idea what's going to happen," Paul said.
"We haven't shot any of it yet. We haven't read it," agreed Nina.
Tonight's episode, "The Murder of One," probably won't have any underwater flashbacks but there'll be plenty else to obsess over. Those Originals killing stakes made from the white oak tree will be a major plot device. We'll also see Damon tied up and tortured by Rebekah!
Are you looking forward to the flashback episode? Any ideas for casting the parents Gilbert? Sound off in the comments and on Twitter!
Переслать - Lily Collins And Kristen Stewart: What This Year's Snow Whites Have In Common
With "Mirror Mirror out in theaters tomorrow, pop culturalists everywhere are taking great pains to make the distinction between this Snow White movie, which is funny and family-friendly and full of slapstick hijinks, and that other Snow White movie, which is gothic and ghastly and full of scary black birds made of EVIL. (How stiff is the competition? So stiff that Armie Hammer challenged the other film to a duel for Rotten Tomatoes rankings right out in public.)
But there's one thing that these two movies do share: the black-haired, pale-skinned princess around whom the whole story revolves. And while the two Snow Whites themselves aren't exactly alike, the actresses playing them have so much in common that it's downright uncanny! Which is why today, we're bucking the "OMG SO DIFFERENT" trend with a list about all the ways that Lily Collins and Kristen Stewart are practically the same person.
Hollywood roots!
Kristen's mother is a director and screenwriter; Lily's dad is, y'know, musician Phil Collins. Which is to say, both these ladies have had the Hollywood bug in their blood since birth. The Lautner connection!
Between "The Twilight Saga" and last year's "Abduction," both Kristen and Lily have enjoyed the privilege of bumping up against Taylor Lautner's chiseled physique...(mostly) professionally speaking, of course.Hidden talents!
Acting isn't all these Snow Whites are good at! Kristen is known off-set for her wicked culinary skills, while Lily has a journalistic streak.A brush with Oscar!
Both gals have had the privilege of playing opposite some seriously high-class co-stars in their early careers: Lily with Sandra Bullock during the actress's Oscar-winning performance in "The Blind Side," and Kristen as Jodie Foster's daughter in the thriller "Panic Room".And finally...
They share a brain!
How else can you explain the fact that Lily and Kristen are not only both playing Snow White in their respective films this year, but that Lily actually went out first for the lead role in "Snow White and the Huntsman"? Clearly, there's a psychic connection at work that we will never fully understand.Related:

Переслать - Jennifer Lawrence Is A Scream Queen In 'House At The End Of The Street' Trailer
Jennifer Lawrence made a great Katniss Everdeen, but after seeing the trailer for her soon-to-be-released movie "The House at the End of the Street," we have a feeling that horror fans are going to start calling her by another name: Scream Queen. Jennifer actually made this little low-budget entry into the thriller genre before she scored the lead in "The Hunger Games," but it's being released this coming September—and while it's no "Catching Fire," there's definitely something to be said for seeing our favorite new leading lady racing around in a sweat-drenched tank top and totally losing her shizz.
The movie (and by extension, the trailer) is a bit of a weirdie in that it runs backward—beginning with a bedraggled-looking Jennifer escaping through a window into a creepy garage—and appears to pretty much give away the entire movie...but hey, who knows.
The story, as we've put it together: Elissa (Jennifer) and her mom have moved into a house, which is not, in fact, at the end of the street, but rather adjacent to it, and which is being offered for a rock-bottom rent thanks to the scary murderous history of the house that is at the end of the street. Which is occupied by a guy whose creepy eyeballs and twitchy demeanor clearly indicate that he's a killer, so why is Elissa making out with him?! Geez, lady—have you never seen a horror movie? Talk about your rookie mistakes.
Well, anyway, with this movie Jennifer is fulfilling a proud Hollywood tradition of making at least one creepy screamer before skyrocketing to stratospheric levels of fame (and in a good year, too—Elizabeth Olsen and Chris Hemsworth are contributing their own jump-out-at-ya horror flicks to the pot in 2012 as well!). And "The House at the End of the Street" looks exciting, and it is out September 21, and we are going to see it, and so are you.
What do you think of the "House at the End of the Street" trailer?
Переслать - Florence + The Machine On 'Snow White And The Huntsman' Soundtrack: Who Should Join Her?
by Fallon Prinzivalli
"Snow White and the Huntsman" is shaping up to be one of the summer's biggest blockbuster hits. With a cast that includes Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, the epic retelling of the fairytale classic is sure to leave audiences awed by the grandeur of both the performances and cinematography.
But that's not all we have to look forward to. MTV News broke the news today that Florence + The Machine's new song "Breath of Life" will grace the film's soundtrack. There's no word yet as to who will join the lovely Flo on the music compilation, so we've come up with a wish list of artists we want to hear. Check them out after the jump and be sure to weigh in with your own in the comments!
Lana Del Rey
Despite her controversial "Saturday Night Live" performance, Lana Del Rey's album, "Born To Die," debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200. The album pleased those who already listened to her hit "Video Games" and paved the way for an influx of new fans. So far, Lana has no soundtrack plans, but we think her rich sound mixed with catchy melodies would be a nice addition to the compilation. The Black Keys
Lead singer Dan Auerbach's unique crooning complements the band's garage rock sound, and their songs are perfect background music for a party or bonfire. The band's already proved that their music translates well in the movie world. Their song "Chop and Change" still transports us back to the opening scene of "Eclipse" when Victoria turns Riley Biers into a vampire. With that ability, the Black Keys are the perfect choice for a villainous song to pair with the Evil Queen.Adele
It's no secret that Adele leaves listeners breathless (and sometimes sobbing) with her powerful performances. Like Lana, the Grammy-winning queen has yet to grace the liner notes of a movie soundtrack. Her latest album, "21," told the story of a love gone wrong, and since "Huntsman" is a dark film, we think a soothing track with Adele's stunning vocals is just what this movie needs.Gotye
Even though Gotye's first album was released back in 2003, the Aussie's latest effort, "Making Mirrors," is rocketing him to fame. His soft voice and quirky beats are catching the attention of music connoisseurs everywhere, and he's the perfect fresh artist to add to the track listing.Paramore
Paramore is also no stranger to the movies with two songs on the first "Twilight" soundtrack. Their deep, energetic sound would be a fitting companion to one of the film's many action sequences. If the soundtrack held the female voices of Flo, Lana, Adele and Hayley Williams, listeners would get a mix of different styles and sounds that blend together in a unique way.MAJOR BONUS: Robert Pattinson
This is the ultimate wish. The "Twilight" soundtrack teased Robert Pattinson's singing abilities and left every fan wanting more. Since his GF KStew is the star of the film, we're wishing on every star we see him on the album. His raspy voice and melancholy melodies mix for a mysterious sound. It wasn't something we expected from the actor, but it would work beautifully on this soundtrack.Who would you like to see on the "Snow White and the Huntsman" soundtrack? Переслать - 'Mirror Mirror' Star Armie Hammer Has Fighting Words For 'Snow White And The Huntsman'
With not one, but two Snow White-themed movies coming out this year, there's no question that some people are already picking sides—offering their allegiance to either the whimsical and comedic "Mirror Mirror," or to the dark visual-effects extravaganza of "Snow White and the Hunstman." But while fans might be picking favorites, the stars of the films themselves would never stoop to such petty and divisive behavior! Noooooo, definitely not. In fact, when Armie Hammer sat down to chat with us about his role as the handsome prince in "Mirror Mirror," he was nothing but diplomatic about this so-called competition between the films.
"I'm interested to see what they did," he mused. "I think what we did is make a movie that's family friendly. The parents are going to go to it and enjoy it almost as much as the kids are."
There, you see? So mature! So measured! There's no competition here, nope, not a single teensy sp--
"Plus our movie kicks that movie's ass, let's be honest," said Armie. "YEAH."
...Okay, so maybe a little competition. But, says Armie, that was just a minor slip-up, he didn't really mean to get so hot under the collar about it, and now we can just move o--
"And we're out first. And we're gonna kick their ass! We're gonna make so much more money than they are!" he added. And then, the final insult:
"Our Rotten Tomatoes score is gonna be so much higher."
Wow. WOW. Okay, then! Maybe not as mature and diplomatic as we thought! And considering Kristen Stewart's take-no-prisoners ass-kicking as the lethal, gothic heroine in her own Snow White fairytale flick, we'll be waiting to see if she comes back with a few fightin' words of her own...because Armie Hammer just threw down, y'all.

Переслать - Gael Garcia Bernal Gets A Twittervention In Latest After Hours
Everyone put on your party pants! It's time for yet another edition of After Hours, where MTV News' Josh Horowitz corners unsuspecting celebrities, the cameras start rolling and shenanigans ensue. And this time around, it's Gael Garcia Bernal who found himself in the hot seat—and the object of a much-needed Twittervention.
The situation is as follows: Gael's Twitter account is still more than 50,000 peeps shy of 1 million followers. Which is, of course, UNACCEPTABLE. So, in a moment of frank camaraderie, Josh sat him down to ask: Does he know why he's been unable to break that vital barrier of Twitter popularity?
Gael replied: "I don't put enough photos of me naked."
...And y'know, we hadn't actually thought of that? But yes, the dearth of naked pictures is totally part of the problem. A big part. And one that should be remedied as soon as possible, and preferably today. (Do you need someone to hold the camera?)
But in the meantime, now that Gael has done the hard part and admitted that he does need help with his Twitter Problem, Josh has some great ideas for lighting a fire under the actor's follower count! Among them: crowdsourcing for pornbots, offering to make out with new followers and changing his handle to @IWuvKittens. (Which was promptly rejected because...Gael hates kittens?) And also suggested: tweeting in English occasionally. Will the actor take the advice of our social media expert? Only time will tell! But in the meantime, naked pictures. Please. Thank you.

Переслать - Joel Kinnaman Makes 'The Killing' As This Week's Hump Day Hottie
Joel Kinnaman can solve our case anytime he wants. The star of AMC's buzzy series, "The Killing," may not always go about solving crimes in a strictly by-the-books manner, but we like a guy who takes chances and gets the job done the best way he knows how—his own way. With "The Killing" coming back this Sunday, AMC just upped its already hot Sunday nights with one more pretty face. And for that, Joel is this week's Hump Day Hottie.
Check out this dreamy photo of Joel and keep reading for more details about him!
Vital stats: This Swedish native was born in Stockholm but holds dual citizenship thanks to his American father. The 32-year-old has five sisters, one of whom is like her bro and also acts.
Rumor has it, our boy is dating Oliva Munn. Le sigh! "They have been together for about three months. They met last year, but they didn't get together until just before Christmas," a source told E! Online about the pairing. "He is a super normal guy and she is a really down-to-earth girl and they just get each other."
Where you might have already seen him: Until recently, his resume had been completely filled with Swedish flicks. But it was one of those films, "Easy Money," that garnered him worldwide attention. After nabbing an agent stateside, he became attached to lead roles in "Thor" and "Mad Max 4." Even though those films didn't pan out, he has amped up his U.S. film resume with roles in "The Darkest Hour," "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" (the U.S. one, despite his Swedish roots) and most recently, "Safe House."
Why you should take notice of him now: "The Killing" returns to AMC this week, and that the mystery laid out in season one has yet to be resolved. And, considering it's "The Killing" we expect it'll be no easy task for his small-screen persona, Detective Stephen Holder. He's also set to star in the upcoming "Lola Versus" and the much-talked-about "RoboCop" reboot.
"'RoboCop' is going to be a lot more human. The first movie is one of my favorite movies. I love it. Of course, Verhoeven has that very special tone, and it's not going to have that tone," Joel told MTV News recently about the highly anticipated reboot. "It's a re-imagination of it. There's a lot of stuff from the original. There are some details and throwbacks, but this version is a much better acting piece, for Alex Murphy and especially when he is RoboCop. It's much more challenging."
Until next week, when we choose another Hump Day Hottie, you can salute Joel by staring at the photo above!
Переслать - Can 'Carrie Diaries' Overcome The Curse Of The '80s?
Crimped hair. Sequined frocks. Cyndi Lauper. I couldn't help but wonder: Will Millennials embrace the '80s?
If there was any question whether "Sex and the City" prequel "The Carrie Diaries" would embody all that was totally tubular about the decade, a recently released still of star AnnaSophia Robb, channeling a "Like a Virgin"-era Madonna, put any lingering doubts to rest. Well, except for this: Can the CW series overcome the curse of '80s-set, teen-targeted series? In our iPhone age, will typewriters and rotary phones seem cute and quaint, or just blase? It's a challenge many shows have faced...and failed.
The most infamous example of undervalued nostalgia is undoubtedly the well-regarded, though short-lived, "Freaks and Geeks." Set during William McKinley High School's 1980-81 school year, the series followed two distinct groups of friends, which are, as you may have guessed, alluded to in the title. Though the one-season series never really found its footing, it wasn't for lack of quality. Produced by Judd Apatow and written by "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig, "Freaks and Geeks" received three Emmy noms during its run, with wins for Best Writing and Best Casting; not to mention it launched the careers of Hollywood heavyweights like Jason Segel, James Franco and Busy Phillipps.
Despite the cautionary tale, FOX bigwigs tried to capitalize on the success of its time-warp comedy "That '70s Show" with a companion series called..."That '80s Show," which followed a group of twenty-something friends living in San Diego. The series lasted even fewer episodes than "Freaks and Geeks" (13 in total) and wasn't really the launching pad we suspect Brittany Daniel had hoped for.
And then there's The CW's own unsuccessful foray into the period with the proposed "Gossip Girl" prequel "Valley Girls." The pilot, which aired as a special episode of the soapy series, followed the teen shenanigans of Serena's mom, Lily Rhodes. (Because, clearly, that story needed to be told.) Starring Brittany Snow and Krysten Ritter, the series was never greenlit ("Melrose Place, "The Beautiful Life" and "The Vampire Diaries" were instead. Breathe a sigh of relief, Ian Somerhalder fans.)
It would appear, then, that the only audience truly yearning for the return of blue eye shadow and acid-wash jeans are the thirty-, forty- and even fifty-something executives and producers pursuing these projects. If it's to be a hit, "The Carrie Diaries" will need to rely on a very different (and hopefully stronger) form of nostalgia—the desire to revisit the life of Manhattan's most glamorous sex columnist. If it can tap into our shared zeal for Miss Bradshaw and portray her early years in a way that rings true to her most devoted fans, the series will no doubt earn a spot on fans'
VCRsDVRs, regardless of the year on their birth certificates. Are you excited for "The Carrie Diaries"? Do you care that its set in the '80s? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
Переслать - 'Hunger Games' Jennifer Lawrence: Always Making An Eccentric Impression
by Fallon Prinzivalli
Do you think "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence is taking applications for a best friend? Ever since she started press rounds for her role as Katniss Everdeen in the box-office blockbuster, we've thought she seemed like the most down-to-earth, fun actress around. Whether she's telling Glamour magazine about how she began raiding the mini-bar or "Chelsea Lately" about her brothers calling her ugly (yeah, right!), Jennifer leaves quite the impression on her audience.
In the latest issue of Rolling Stone (on newsstands March 30), her first words when she met the writer were, "I have to pee so bad." (Amazing, right?!) And she made equally intriguing first impressions on her "Hunger Games" cast mates, according to the cover story.
Woody Harrelson, the infamous Haymitch Abernathy, recalled meeting Jennifer in his trailer while filming "Hunger Games." "I was on my bus and on my bus I have a yoga swing. Jennifer comes on, and she goes, 'Hi, Woody, I'm J—is that a sex swing?' Her first sentence to me."
Josh Hutcherson had a similar experience in his initial conversation with the starlet. "When I got cast, she called me up for one of those five-minute 'Excited to work with you, blah, blah, blah' things," he said. "The conversation started with her saying, 'Think about a catheter going in—ouch!' and then it turns into a 45-minute rant about zombies and the apocalypse."
We have a feeling if an undead invasion ever goes down, we'd want Jennifer on our team! She's already trained to survive in the woods and those bow-and-arrow skills are real. The zombies wouldn't stand a chance.
And while those two encounters made us chuckle, the most shockingly hilarious impression was made when Jennifer invited her "X-Men: First Class" co-star Zoë Kravitz to her apartment. Zoë recounted, "I'd met her a few times, and she was like, 'You should come over and we'll hang out.' So I go over to her apartment and she opens the door in a towel. She's like, 'Come in, sorry, you're early, I was about to shower.' And she drops her towel and gets in the shower, and starts shaving her legs, totally naked. She was like, 'Are we here yet? Is this OK?' And I was like, 'I guess we're there!'"
Zoë is now one of Jennifer's best friends.
Which one of these encounters from Rolling Stone is your favorite? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
