• Justin Bieber Reveals His Own 'Boyfriend' Secrets

'You're always wrong when it comes to girls, you're always wrong, so just say sorry when things are rough,' Bieber tells E! News.
    By Christina Garibaldi

Selena Gomez is one lucky lady! With the release of his new single, "Boyfriend," Justin Bieber is now sharing his own relationship advice, which seems to be working since he and Gomez have been dating for over a year.

"To be a great boyfriend, you just have to have patience," Bieber told E! "So, I mean, I'll never let you go if you're my girlfriend, I promise."

It seems like Gomez might be sticking around for a while, then! In an interview with Radio Disney's "Celebrity Take With Jake," Bieber may have also revealed the secret as to why their relationship is still going so strong.

"You just have to be honest, that's the first thing, because if you're not honest, then the relationship is just not a good relationship," Bieber said. "At the end of the day, your girl would appreciate you being honest more than lying to her and vice versa."

It probably doesn't hurt the relationship when your boyfriend's idea of a date is to rent out the Staples Center for a private viewing of "Titanic."

So with Bieber gearing up to release Believe and Gomez hard at work shooting "Spring Breakers," will these two find time to possibly collaborate on a track?

"I mean, yeah," Bieber told Billy Bush Tuesday (March 27) on "Access Hollywood Live." "If it would happen before, it's going to happen now. There's no difference. If we do a song together, we do a song together. It is what it is. I think she's taking a little break from music for a while. She's just doing her acting."

Would you want Justin and Selena to collaborate on a song? • Justin Bieber Will Change 'The Landscape' With Believe

Producer Mike Posner says Bieber's next album will make pop artists 'go back to the drawing board.'
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kara Warner

This week, Justin Bieber dropped his single "Boyfriend," marking his first step toward making more mature-sounding pop tunes. Co-producer Mike Posner told MTV News that Bieber's upcoming Believe album displays how far he's come since the sugary sweet ditties of his My World days.

"I think our goal was to make something that me and my friends could listen to in the car," Posner explained. "I think we've all known Justin since he was 13, and that's not the kid I was in the studio with anymore. He's an 18-year-old. He skateboards with Lil Wayne and hangs out with Lil Twist. Those are his homies. And he listens to hip-hop and he's a really cool kid. He's not like a corny guy.

"So I wanted to make something that reflected who he is now and who he is going to continue to be," Posner added. "We're still working more on the project and it sounds really incredible. I think people have been waiting [for] when he's going to turn that corner, and the time is now."

Believe isn't going to change just Bieber's career, but all of pop music, Posner added. "He's kind of bringing soul back, and rhythm and blues back and definitely hip-hop into his music. I'm really excited to see how it's going to change the landscape, and I know a lot of artists are going to have to go back to the drawing board."

"Boyfriend" is the lead single off Believe, which will drop later this year. A video is currently in the works, but no release date has been announced.

Do you like Justin Bieber's new sound on "Boyfriend"? Leave your comment below!

  • Justin Bieber In Hot Water After Phone Number Prank

After Bieber allegedly tweeted nine digits of a Texas phone number, two local residents are threatening legal action.
    By James Montgomery

Earlier this month, Justin Bieber decided to have a little fun with his 19 million Twitter followers when he posted a mysterious phone number and told them "call me right now."

In the tweet — which has since been deleted (but can be seen here ... with the number blocked out) — Bieber included just nine digits of a Texas number, leaving the true Beliebers to figure out the rest ... which, not surprisingly, caused some headaches for folks who had similar numbers. And now, two of them reportedly have threatened legal action.

According to TMZ, a pair of Texas residents (a woman named Dilcie and a man named Kent) have hired an attorney, claiming that since the tweet, their phones have been ringing non-stop. And they're seeking compensation from Bieber for his "reckless" behavior.

The attorney tells the site that her clients received more than 1,000 phone calls from Bieber fans, at all hours of the day, and their patience "wears thin." So they're looking for restitution, which could come in any number of forms: An apology from JB himself, concert tickets for Dilcie's grandchildren, an endorsement for Kent's "upcoming online project," or — of course — cold, hard cash.

Kent, who doesn't want his last name to be revealed, subsequently told ABC News that he's had his number for 20 years, and he doesn't want to change it just because of Bieber. Of course, there is a question about whether Justin's initial tweets were even authentic, or if his account was somehow hacked. A spokesperson for the singer did not respond to MTV News' request for comment by press time.

  • Justin Bieber Takes A 'Leap' With 'Boyfriend'

'He's an incredible, incredible writer and amazing vocalist,' producer Mike Posner tells MTV News about Bieber's new single.
    By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber dropped his bumping new single "Boyfriend" on Monday (March 26), teasing his next album, Believe. It's a grinding, midtempo song that hears Bieber proclaiming all the ways he can make a girl happy (swag and fondue included!).

Co-produced and co-written by "Cooler Than Me" singer Mike Posner, the song shows growth from Bieber's "Baby" days. When MTV News caught up with Posner last week, he told us what it was like to hit the studio with Bieber (and co-producer and co-writer Mason Levy) for the track.

"I've known [Bieber's manager] Scooter [Braun] for a few years, so I actually ran into Scooter at a Clippers game and told him I would love to work with Justin," Posner said. "I got the opportunity to write with Justin. I didn't really know what to expect at first, but he's an incredible, incredible writer and amazing vocalist.

"Because I'm an artist myself, I can be pretty selective on who I produce for and who I make beats for ... and really what I'm looking for is an amazing vocalist, somebody that can sing better than I can," he continued. "And the other thing is somebody that's willing to not try to make something that succeeds within the matrix of what pop music is now, but makes something that moves that matrix to where it is, and Justin was willing to take that leap with me."

Bieber spoke to Ryan Seacrest on his radio show hours after the song's world premiere Monday, explaining why this was the perfect track to kick off the Believe era.

"It was a really hard choice. I mean, we had so many songs, so many uptempos we could release, [that] I thought, 'Let's slow it down,' " he said, adding that there are already plenty of fast songs all over the radio. "It's just something a little bit more mature, but it's also something I think I'm ready for."

While fans and industry insiders had been wondering what a more grown-up Bieber would sound like, he said he tried to block out all the noise when making the track. "There's so many people that are going to give me opinions, but I'm the only one who can ultimately make those decisions, because I'm going to have to live with my career for the rest of my life. So I thought this was the perfect single," he said, adding that this song "was me all the way; it is a representation of me."

And Bieber said "Boyfriend" perfectly sets up what's coming next. "It's kind of classic," he said of the album. "The songs, I feel, won't get old. The music is very fresh, but it's also — I'm taking a lot from old-school music, a lot of Michael Jackson, a lot of old R&B, a lot of old pop. It's pretty special."

What do you think of "Boyfriend"? Share your reviews in the comments below!

  • Justin Bieber Channels Justin Timberlake On 'Boyfriend'

Lead Believe single dropped at midnight on Monday.
    By Jocelyn Vena

Tween dream swagger is all over Justin Bieber's lead Believe single, "Boyfriend." Taking several cues from Justin Timberlake's early post-'NSYNC work, the track amps up Bieber's credibility as a teen idol and remixes it with the type of production work longtime pop music fans can appreciate.

Lyrically, it sounds a bit silly at times (like when Bieber proposes he and his girl eat fondue by the fire), but Bieber's delivery of the lines proves that at 18, he's willing to take the steps to move forward in the world of pop. Sometimes it seems a little too similar to the way the other Justin delivers lines, but "Boyfriend," co-produced and co-written by Mike Posner, is light-years beyond the sugary sweet "Baby."

The song opens pretty sparsely, with just a thumping beat, a "woo" noise and Bieber's sing-songy rap, before a guitar comes in as Bieber makes his plea to win a girl over. The chorus will have girls dancing around thanks to its bumping beat and chugging R&B-influenced instrumentation. He sings, "I could be a gentleman/ Everything you want/ If I was your boyfriend/ I'd never let you go/ I'd never let you go," before rapping, "Tell me what you like."

Bieber uses some form of the word "swag" no fewer than four times on the track, including the somewhat perplexing line, "Swag, swag, swag on you." But regardless of what Bieber detractors might have to say, his Beliebers, who have aged right along with their idol, will appreciate his more grown-up sound on the record.

The song officially dropped at midnight on Monday. Believe will be released later this year. As for the video, his manager, Scooter Braun, tweeted that it's already in the works.

Do you like the more grown-up Bieber on "Boyfriend"? Leave your comment below!
