  • Star Spotting: The Wanted's Siva Kaneswaran Chucks The Deuce Up Over Pancakes, Is Prolly Our Prom Date

The Wanted's Siva Kaneswaran drops the dueces over pancakes.

UK's The Wanted were strong, strong contenders to be our date to the prom (we're not in high school anymore, but we figured we'd just show up to a local school and see if they were cool with us coming -- I mean, we'd dress up and everything, of COURSE!) with their teen mag-inspired Billboard magazine cover and an upcoming performance on "American Idol." But then Siva Kaneswaran (our fave) had to go and absolutely confirm his place as our date with this recent photo of him chucking the deuce up while enjoying pancakes. It takes confident AND talent to flip the peace sign with some sticky fingers, guys. Eating syrupy flapjacks can get messy!

The "Glad You Came" singers posted the pic of Siva (sporting perfect hair, BTW) on their Twitter. I'm glad they found time for breakfast, because they guys have been on the road and just recently arrived to the states promoting their debut album in the U.S. We're pretty sure that if we getting photographed after dealing with a super long flight across the pond, jet lag, and not yet having our six(teen) cups of morning coffee, we'd be flipping a whole different kind of hand gesture (JK!). But maybe having breakfast with Siva would charm us into becoming morning people. Guess we'll just have to see when we have breakfast with Siva the morning after prom.

  • Why Katharine McPhee's Role On 'Smash' Is A Total, Um, Smash

Oh hey, fans of musical theater! (You don't like musical theater? Your loss!) I'm Sam Lansky, and this is my column, "Pop Think," dedicated to exploring the best and brightest luminaries in the pop culture scene. Up this week? Well, you'll have to excuse me if I seem delirious, because I've been sick lately: With a McPheever. A bad one. And while that's nothing new -- I've been a fan of Katharine McPhee since she first appeared on "American Idol" way back in 2006 -- her new direction, with a starring role on the new show "Smash," gives her a whole new opportunity to flex her acting and vocal chops.

But what I'm really excited about is the music that's coming out of "Smash," specifically, a little song called "Touch Me," which has been a cogent reminder of just how killer Katharine McPhee's vocals really are as well as her not-insignificant contribution to the realm of popular music. (Also, I kinda want to make up for the time when I saw her at a party and wanted to go say hi to tell her how much I love her, but I was too nervous to do so -- so if you're reading this, Katharine, hey gurl!)

My McPheever just keeps on rising, and I don't think there's any remedy in sight. Got a problem with that?

Is there any argument that Katharine McPhee was robbed on the fifth season of "American Idol"? Not to throw any shade at the illustrious Taylor Hicks. But seriously, Katharine always had incredible vocal talent and undeniable charisma. And she's been putting both to good use in the years since "Idol" with two excellent studio albums and now a whole new life starring in the NBC series "Smash," which, if you haven't been watching, is kinda like a grown-up "Glee," with even more attitude and some sensational pop songs.

Not that the "sensational songs" thing is new for Katharine, since her self-titled 2007 debut is an excellent mainstream pop LP; it spawned the top 40 hit "Over It" and packed a number of major pop tracks, including the excellent single "Love Story" and, of course, the unforgettable ode to shoes, "Open Toes," which fits nicely among other shoe-devoting songs like Jennifer Lopez's "Louboutins" and Ashanti's "Switch." (I'm not saying I have a "Songs About Shoes" playlist, but I'm also not saying that I don't.) Her second album, 2010's Unbroken, was a mellower affair, with adult-contemporary tracks like "Terrified" and "Had It All," which showed a sweetness and lovely sophistication with more organic instrumentation and mature lyrics.

See why Katharine McPhee's role on "Smash" is her best role yet after the jump.

But it's Katharine McPhee's part on Smash that I'm really excited about, since it gives her an opportunity to set her chill-inducingly powerful voice to a diverse new collection of original songs. The show, which follows the development of an original Broadway musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe, sees Katharine playing Karen Cartwright, a struggling actress from the Midwest who lands a spot in the production's chorus line. But diverting fantasies see Karen taking the starring role in show-stopping musical numbers. Katharine is a strong actress and has proven herself to be surprisingly deft on the dance floor, so it's no stretch to imagine that she could play the part of Marilyn in the show (which may well happen as the plot develops).

The songs of "Smash," though, are really where the magic happens. Most of the songs in the first few episodes have been go-to musical-theater numbers -- highly listenable, but far from radio fare. But "Touch Me," the first single from the upcoming "Smash" soundtrack album, was written by my girl Bonnie McKee (Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me") and Ryan Tedder (of OneRepublic and Beyonce's "Halo" fame), and it's a shimmering, gorgeous dance track with a major chorus and attitude to spare. It starts out with a very de rigueur house beat and Katharine's gorgeously dusky, feline take on the clever lyrics ("So c'mon turn me on/Baby be my Marlon Brando/Take a good snapshot/Get me from my better angle"), over crystalline instrumentation. It's an unexpected turn from the show, which has been engaging so far, but gave no indication that it would be producing the kind of song with chart-topper potential. Oh, and and it's probably Katharine's best song yet. (Again, I kinda know WTF I'm talking about when it comes to the McPhee oeuvre.)

As far as I'm concerned, Katharine has always deserved more commercial success than she's received. But now, it seems that's about to change. When the "Smash" promos first came out, with the slightly inexplicable wording of the credit "Introducing Katharine McPhee," I thought, "Introducing?" She was runner-up on the biggest talent show in the world, released two major albums, and starred in a handful of films. But I'm beginning to think they were more accurate than anyone realized. This show is introducing a whole new side of Katharine -- and I'm so ready to see where it takes her.

  • Listen To DJ Pauly D's New Song, 'Night Of My Life' Featuring Dash, From The 'Pauly D Project'

Listen to DJ Pauly D's 'Pauly D Project'  theme song,'Night Of My Life,' featuring Dash.

As any good "Jersey Shore" fan (so, that's... everyone we've ever met?) knows, DJ Pauly D's spin-off solo show, the "Pauly D Project," premieres tonight at 10:30pm ET. And, as evidenced in this sneak peek, instead of focusing on Pauly's 24/7 GTL regime, "Pauly D Project" will revolve around Pauly's transition from being a Shore housemate to becoming a world-class DJ. (We kinda already think he is, but we're biased.)

So, every new show needs its own new theme song, and when you're a globetrotting DJ, no rehash of some regular song's gonna cut it. Which is why Pauly D sat down and made his own theme song, "Night Of My Life," featuring Dash.

Listen to Pauly D's new song, "Night Of My Life," featuring Dash, from the "Pauly D Project" after the jump.

"As we finished taping my show we needed a theme song, so I teamed up with Dash, Joe Boom, and "The Closers," Pauly explained. "We came up with this great concept. I wanted the lyrics to reflect my lifestyle and stuff that happened to me on the road. It's a really catchy beat and if you listen closely we even chopped up some of my vocals in the bridge just to give the track some added spice and creativity."

The result is an uptempo club banger about calling up some shorties (on the Duck phone, one can assume), poppin' bottles, private-jetting it around the world, and living the party lifestyle. And it's the perfect dance track to set the tone for the show that shines the spotlight on Pauly, his Rhode Island home, his friends, and his life on the road DJing for Britney Spears (!!!!), taking up a residency at the Palms in Vegas and much more.

+ Listen to DJ Pauly D's "Night Of My Life" featuring Dash, buy the single, and don't miss the premiere of the "Pauly D Project" tonight at 10:30/9:30c.

  • New Song: Nicki Minaj, 'Champion,' Featuring Drake, Nas & Young Jeezy,

Nicki Minaj calls on Drake, Nas, and Young Jeezy to collaborate on "Champion."

Nicki Minaj may have the most stacked Rolodex in all of the universe. First she collaborates with Madonna and M.I.A. on "Give Me All Your Luvin," then she gets a real live kiss from Madge on her birthday and now, she's collaborating with Drake, Nas and Young Jeezy on her new song "Champion," from her just-leaked Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded album (scheduled for an official April 2 release.) Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Obama sang the hook to her next song. (Which would be... the BEST.)

Produced by Da Internz (Rihanna's "Birthday Cake") Nicki's rightfully first on deck on "Champion." And though she doesn't assume her alter ego "Roman," she does get emotional as she rhymes about the tragic loss of her cousin: "Cause they killed my little cousin Nicholas/But my memories only happy images/This is for the hood/This is for the kids." Drake, Nas, and Young Jeezy all slay their verses (natch) and although this record may not be as radio friendly as Nicki's pop-laden "Starships" it's a never-forget-your-roots homage and a testament to Nicki's artistic diversity.

MTV News recently caught up with Nas, who talked about recording with Nicki: "Nicki hit us up, I got love, so it was nothin'--I did the record....If I feel it, I can get on it. I heard the track. I felt it. I loved it." Yo, I feel it and I love it too! Any shot I can spit a quick verse on your next song, Nicki? Yeah? No? Okay, that's cool, I get it.

  • Backstreet Boys Post LMFAO-Esque Photo From 2005, We May Now Die And Go To Heaven (PHOTO)

Backstreet Boys did LMFAO back in 2005.

Hello everyone, pardon me if I sound mildly off my game right now. It's just that I am FREAKING out over the reality that is the above still photo of the Backstreet Boys. As you can see, all five of these incredible men once dressed up like some awe-inspiring hybrid of '80s hair metal, a Richard Simmons workout video, and an LMFAO publicity photo shoot. And the result is quite possibly the most stunning image I've seen in all my years on Planet Earth.

In an effort to poke fun at their pals LMFAO -- and prove that they were the original party rockers -- the Backstreet Boys posted the archival photo to their Facebook wall and wrote: "LMFAO, sorry for party rocking!" Uh, no need to be sorry boys --- you've just made 2012 my favorite year ever. And of course, now would be the time to point out that Nick Carter is wearing a studded thong over black pants!!! Great work.

In case you're not the editor of the Backstreet Boys-apedia like I am, I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that this photo looks like it was taken on the set of their incredible 2005 video "Just Want You To Know." But we're praying that this might all be foreshadowing a "Just Want You To Know" video sequel! And in other news, PLEASE GOD LET THERE BE A VIDEO SEQUEL. Kthanksbai.

  • New Video: Dev Featuring Enrique Iglesias, 'Naked'

Dev and Enrique Iglesias keep their clothes on in their sexy "Naked" video.

We know what you're thinking: MTV Push Artist Of The Week "Dev," "Enrique Iglesias," and "naked" all in the same headline!?! SOLD! And while we'd love to fulfill all your wildest fantasies (this is a judgement-free zone and a safe space), unfortunately everyone keeps their clothes on in Dev's new "Naked" video. That doesn't mean it doesn't ooze with plenty of sexy, so you really should watch and employ the powers of your imagination.

Watch Dev and Enrique Iglesias in their new music video for "Naked" after the jump!

Just 'cause everyone stays clothed in "Naked" doesn't mean this ish stays innocent -- the story takes place in the city of sin... no, not Indianapolis. It goes down in Las Vegas, where Dev and Enrique get ready for a night out of the town in their separate insanely posh penthouses. (No standards for these stars.) Much like the song's lyrical longing, we also have to patiently wait to see if anything happens between Dev and Enrique. It's all good, though, because all the sparkly aerial footage of the Vegas strip, close-ups of gambling and dancing montages make for some pretty visual fillers. Oh, and FINALLY, we get serious eye contact between the pair (is it getting hot in here?).

SPOILER ALERT: We don't really find out if the two ever really, um, "meet up." Sigh, you know the old saying: What happens in Vegas... doesn't always happen.

  • Diggy Talks Crazy Fans, His Rihanna Crush, And Kanye's Co-Sign (VIDEO)

Diggy shares his craziest fan story and his crush on Rihanna!

Boyfriend alert! Diggy, the most adorable rapper this side of 18 stopped by Buzzworthy recently, and we got to ask him a whole bunch of questions. And unsurprisingly, the "Do It Like You" dude was nothing but totally polite and super professional. Our meeting definitely had me wishing guys my age had even half the maturity of Diggy, but alas. "Save it for your LiveJournal," as the old saying goes.

Watch Diggy's Buzzworthy interview to find out about crazy fans, celeb crushes, Kanye and more after the jump.

Just because Diggy's young doesn't mean he's not on his grind. We already mentioned his IRL maturity level, but hello -- Kanye West himself co-signed him, and Diggy doesn't mind the go-ahead one bit. "When Kanye stamped me, that was a crazy moment for sure. Kanye is someone who inspires me a whole lot musically and just the way he is creatively. That felt like a milestone for me." Um, hi, adorably humble understatement.

Diggy also opened up about crazy fans (one time a girl jumped on his back, NBD), his new album, Unexpected Arrival, and celebrity crushes. And sorry, ladies, but you kind of have a big name to live up to: Rihanna. Diggy says, "It's like just... Rihanna. She just... you know... does her." Rihanna left Diggy basically speechless, y'all. We don't blame him.

  • New Song: Trey Songz, 'Heart Attack' (NSFW)

Listen to Trey Songz's new song, "Heart Attack."

Trey Songz, inventor of sex and master of panty-dropping has taken a brief hiatus from making every woman on this planet remove their undergarments to basically become well, Usher. And we're not throwing shade of any variety. It's just that Trey's got it so bad in "Heart Attack" that the song almost sounds like it could be an Usher cut (or even a Frank Ocean navel-gazer). NBD. There's room in our "nighttime thoughts" for both men.

Produced by Benny Blanco and penned by Rico Love, Trey's crushing "Heart Attack" -- slated to appear on Chapter V, Trey's forthcoming summer album -- is laden with 8-bit blips beneath Trey's silky sorrow: "It's killing me, swear I never cried so much/'Cause I never knew love would hurt this f******g bad." Damn y'all! Trey's crying and dropping f-bombs? Trey's got some deep cuts in his hurt locker.

  • Star Spotting: One Direction's Louis Tomlinson And His Girlfriend Step Out In L.A. (Crushing Our Dreams)

One Direction's Louis Tomlinson and girlfriend enjoy coffee in L.A. But not with us.

While you're spending the majority of your time figuring out which One Direction member to date (and staring in a hypnotic stupor at their Billboard magazine cover), band member Louis Tomlinson's girlfriend (Eleanor Calder) already made up her mind. See, that's what happens: You snooze, you lose, and then you have to look at this photo of the cute band member dating an equally cute lady friend. Sometimes the world's just not fair, guys.

Louis, one of the five "What Makes You Beautiful" singers recently enjoyed a coffee date with his very pretty lady friend while strolling the streets of L.A. Aside being obnoxiously good-looking (we mean that with love, Louis), dude is a perfect British gentleman. While some American bros have a hard time holding their girl's hand, dapper Louis has no problem walking arm-in-arm with his girl. That's a class act right there.

But don't be heartbroken just 'cause Louis is off the market. At least there are One Direction videos to make out to enjoy while you wait for them to break up your very own prince charming to come along! And speaking of landing a 1Der -- even if you were to win the affections of the remaining boys, if you're to believe this British rag, apparently the One Direction boys are on a sex ban! Welp, that's one way to not end up on "16 And Pregnant."
