- Star Spotting: Katy Perry Tries To Be Incognito, Accidentally Does The Bend And Snap Instead! (PHOTO)
Katy Perry really doesn't want to get noticed, guys.
As it's clear by the fact that she's wearing both a hood, a hat, and sunglasses, Katy Perry was definitely trying to keep a low profile yesterday as she perused L.A. vintage clothing shop, Golyester. And sure, while a hood, a hat, and sunglasses may radiate "please don't look at me," what Katy failed to realize is that it's basically impossible for people not to stare at her when she's giving the whole street a close-up of her toned derriere! In fact, it appears as if the four-time 2012 MTV VMA nominee was in the middle of a famed "Bend & Snap!"
If you're not familiar with the "Bend & Snap" (but srsly, how is that even possible?) then we'll give you a quick crash course. "Bend and Snap" is a term that comes from the movie "Legally Blonde" and is a foolproof move developed by Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) to get men's attention. Yeahhhh, so even while rocking your grungiest sweats, the "Bend & Snap" works every time. Really though, we're sorry boo that you got noticed despite your deep disguise. On the bright side, you can watch this stunning "Bend and Snap" GIF as many times as you'd like! Well that, and you're maybe
definitelydating John Mayer so there's really not much to complain about.Photo credit: Pacific Coast News/GifSoup tumblr
Переслать - Buzz Bites (8/23/12): Lady Gaga, Beyonce, And Jennifer Lopez Among Forbes' 'World's 100 Most Powerful Women'
Lady Gaga is #14 on Forbes' "World's 100 Most Powerful Women" list.
+ Forbes' annual "World's 100 Most Powerful Women" list has arrived. Pop stars making the list include Lady Gaga (#14), Beyoncé (#32), and Jennifer Lopez (#38). (E!)
+ Watch Lady Gaga's "Monstervision No. 3," which includes adorbs clips of her godson Zachary (Elton John and and David Furnish's child), Gaga, and her mom dancing around to "Sheibe" (Gaga flashes some boob!) and rehearsal footage from last year's VMAs. (Idolator)
+ One Direction's Zayn Malik broke up with Twitter and many of his near 5 million followers are broken up about it. "The reason i don't tweet as much as i use to, is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that i get daily goodbye twitter," he reportedly wrote. (MTV News)
+ While we're still reeling over the news of Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback's engagement, we're also temporarily blinded by the ginormous rock of an engagement ring Avril's wearing on the cover of Canada's Hello! (Idolator)

Переслать - Star Spotting: Harry Styles Can Text And Record Hits At The Same Time! (PHOTO)
Harry Styles is the hottest multitask-er EVER!
Aside of being flawlessly photogenic in every GIF and photo of One Direction, the boys come equipped with other talents (they weren't nominated for two MTV VMAS for nothing, guys!). Just in case you're STILL skeptical, here's just a bit more proof: Harry Styles can record and play on his phone at the same time like NBD! Successfully multitasking is what makes Harry beautiful.
The above photo, shared on OneDirection's Facebook, shows Harry causally playing on his phone while recording (perhaps working on that new album they've been promising!?). We can only begin to speculate what's taking his attention from focusing on GETTING US NEW SONGS ASAP, but we do have to wonder if he's checking in on Zayn Malik to see why his bandmate quit Twitter (*holds back sobs*). Or perhaps, he's sending everyone he knows One Direction's latest MTV VMA slo-mo promo video to remind fans that they're taking the VMA stage to perform at the event for the FIRST TIME EVER! (BTW -- Watching slow motion videos of boy bands and not hyperventilating at the same time is how we multitask.)

Переслать - Video Premiere: Lupe Fiasco, 'Bitch Bad'
Lupe Fiasco (and some kids) stage a play about a very powerful word in "Bitch Bad."
Earlier this summer, Lupe Fiasco dropped two songs with two different messages. While on "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)," we saw Lupe muse away on the flaws of the American Dream, he also released a song commenting on a word we're all familiar with (for better or worse) in "Bitch Bad." The "Bitch Bad" video expands on the song's story arc of a young man and woman in three acts, growing up with the impact of that word, and what it means to each of them.
Watch Lupe Fiasco's "Bitch Bad" video after the jump.
Appearing on RapFix Live today to premiere the video, Lupe spoke about the need to bring the discussion of the word to the forefront. "I just wanted to have a conversation, just to put it out in the world and discuss it," he said. During the interview, Lupe also told Sway that the main target of that conversation is kids. "That's why we put the children in the video," he said, in aims to involve them in a discussion that is already important to their lives. Using provocative imagery and wordplay is nothing new to the Chicago rapper, but here Lupe hopes that he isn't the one doing the talking. "I'm saying it to get you to talk about it." Well said, Lupe... or not said. You know what I mean.

Переслать - New Video: Grimes, 'Genesis'
Warning: Grimes will cut anyone who doesn't understand her "Genesis" video.
The always-gorgeous Grimes -- one of the leading ladies shaking up the industry at the mo' with her experimental, ethereal electro-pop -- has just released the video for "Genesis," one of the tracks off of her 2012 record, Visions. And the video is, as we (and by "we," I mean "I") like to refer to in the industry, STRAIGHT-UP CRAY.
Watch Grimes' "Genesis" video after the jump.
What's the the self-directed, bonkers o'clock clip about? Well, think "The Fifth Element" meets "Final Fantasy" meets "Sailor Moon" meets Gaga's "You and I" meets Nicki Minaj's "Starships" meets Gogo Yubari from "Kill Bill" meets "Paris Is Burning" meets a pair of Spice Girls platform shoes meets every single one of my night terrors. You know, just another one of those videos.
Seriously, it's too amazing! And that intro --what even is that, and how can I make it my life? Extensive Vogue-ing in front of a car full of ladies? Clearly an homage to the night when Paris, Britney and Lindsay all piled into a car back in '07! And that's not the only Britney connection -- just look at that massive albino snake she's wrangling in the backseat! (No, that is not a euphemism.)
Without giving too much away (and honestly, you won't believe it 'til you watch it anyway), "Genesis" is a complete visual smorgasbord of delightful oddities and WTF-gasms. OH, AND PINK DREAD PONYTAIL TWIRLING.
SO here for this.

Переслать - New Song: Brandy, 'Wildest Dreams'
Brandy finds a love that exceeds her "Wildest Dreams" in her latest.
Let us go on the record to say we're FULLY thrilled that Brandy is back on the scene. She's first reemerged with her Chris Brown-assisted "Put It Down," and now she's let us into her inner-psyche via her latest jam, "Wildest Dreams."
Listen to Brandy's "Wildest Dreams" after the jump.
"Wildest Dreams" is a laid back, classic R&B track that's reminiscent of Brandy's earlier sound, but that's why we love it! Think the sultry vocals of "Full Moon" coupled with the melodic swells of "Right Here (Departed)." Or in short, "Wildest Dreams" is Brandy in her sweet spot. Along with her lush vocals, the totally-in-love Brandy admits that she's been swept off of her feet: "And now I'm receiving abundance of love/ And I get it/ But never could imagine it/ Never in my wildest dreams, no, no, no/ Did I think someone could care about me, oh/ Not just the way you love me." Yes! We love it when pop stars sing about the people who love them. And no, that's not just because all pop stars deserve to be loved any more than us, but because we will never understand the dudes dumb enough to turn down a dime piece like Brandy. You go get your love, girl.

Переслать - New Video: Mariah Carey, 'Triumphant (Get 'Em)'
Mariah Carey doesn't look a day over 21 in the cover art for "Triumphant (Get 'Em)."
By now, you know we've been waiting a hot second for Mariah Carey's Meek Mill- and Rick Ross-assisted "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" video to drop. Dem Babies' mama tweeted photos from the set of her "Triumphant (Get 'Em) video, revealed the cover art for "Triumphant (Get 'Em)," talked about "Triumphant (Get 'Em)," and even released a video teaser for "Triumphant (Get 'Em)." One more stunt like that and we would have completely lost it.
Watch Mariah Carey's "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" video after the jump.
In the "Triumphant" video, Mariah slinks around in a skintight gold lamé dress (DUH) and watches Meek duke it out in the boxing ring. Mariah eventually steps into the ring herself and plays the role of sexy ring girl, because did you really think Mariah was gonna throw punches in 8-inch stilettos? Rick Ross watches the fight while wearing a giant chinchilla fur coat and literally throwing money into the crowd, as one does. The video comes to a close, and Mariah's showered with sparkly confetti because she basically won at both boxing and life. Not the most original video concept we'd argue, but then again we're totally into it as a vehicle to both see Rick Ross in a giant fur coat AND to gawk at Mariah's bangin' post-baby bod. Those two elements alone make it worth watching like, eight times at least.

Переслать - VMA Best New Artist Nominee Carly Rae Jepsen, As Illustrated By Artist Jon Stich
Artist Jon Stich illustrated Carly Rae Jepsen for Buzzworthy's Best New Artist "inspiration illustration" series.
Each of the 15 VMA categories carries its own prestige and distinction. But the VMA Best New Artist category is perhaps one of the night's most anticipated categories. The Best New Artist category represents a diverse roster of some of the best and brightest new faces and names to enter the musical landscape and pop culture conversation over the past year. To celebrate the artistic influence of this year's Best New Artist nominees on Buzzworthy, where we're committed to celebrating pop music, pop culture, and, of course, music fans, I asked five different young artists to pay homage to the 2012 Best New Artist nominees with an "inspiration illustration," to look at that musical artist and the impact of their art through another artist's eyes. (Yes, we're taking a break from animated GIFs for some real-deal art appreciation. We're almost grown-ups!)
Each of this year's Best New Artists has opened our minds (and, quite often, hearts) by writing a tribute to eternal youth (fun. and Janelle Monaé), writing an unforgettable (and unstoppably catchy) ode to first crushes (Carly Rae Jepsen), inciting boy band mania all over again (The Wanted and One Direction, of course), or by breathing new, poetic life into R&B (Frank Ocean). It may sound corny, but it's true -- how we as music fans experience music, videos, lyrics, and the visual images surrounding music creates a visceral, emotional bond that transcends music itself (I can't remember the last time a song truly transported and swept me away the way Frank Ocean's "Swim Good" did the first time I heard it). Essentially, this is an artist-on-artist series. Hopefully you'll enjoy seeing how five visual artists connected to and interpreted each of the 2012 MTV VMA Best New Artist nominees.
Last week Brooklyn artist Jess Rotter took on 2012 VMA Best New Artist nominee Frank Ocean and "Swim Good." Today, Oakland artist Jon Stich captures teen dream queen Carly Rae Jepsen and her unstoppable, inescapable, always adorable "Call Me Maybe" crush anthem. Here's what he had to say:
Check out Jon Stich's 2012 VMA Best New Artist "inspiration illustration" of Carly Rae Jepsen after the jump.
"I love the way this song truly embodies summer. It's in the same category for me as 'Feel Me Flow' by Naughty by Nature, which I remember watching on MTV growing up and thinking 'damn, I want my summer to go like this.' I think we've all been in that position where we do silly things to attract our crush, (this video certainly makes me want to do more sit-ups so that I can attract my hot, car-washing neighbor), and I wanted to capture that aspect of summer with this painting. As an artist, I love illustrating America by studying celebrity, fame, wealth, poverty, the 1990s, politics, insecurity, sex, conservatism, get-rich-quick schemes, rudeness, race, boredom, religion, the internet, and the fact that there are millions of people who desperately want to go viral on YouTube." -- Jon Stich

About the artist: Jon Stich has been creating pictures since he was nine years old, when his father took him to a Red Lobster and he scrawled all over the menu. The first person to be bothered by his artwork was his seventh grade math teacher Mr. Schaffsma, who became angered by Jon's decision to draw a detailed rendition of a gentleman enthusiastically pooping. Since then, he has somehow managed to create and sell artwork of the same quality to the masses. A 2004 graduate of the California College of Arts & Crafts, he lives and works in Oakland, Ca. Переслать - Avril Lavigne And Chad Kroeger's Surprise Engagement Make Us Feel Like These Surprised Cats
Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne are GETTING HITCHED. WTF.
Sooooo we totally wanna be all "Mazel tov, Canada." but we can't form complete sentences until we pick our jaw up from off the floor because Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger (otherwise known as that dude from Nickelback) are getting married! News of their engagement broke yesterday and almost broke the Internet as well as my brain. In fact, my level of personal shock was so great that it surpassed human emotion and can now best be expressed by these shocked cats.
We're just as surprised as this cat about Avril and Chad's engagement.
According to People, the two Canadians (Chavril?) fell hard for each other while they were working on material for Avril's new album. Chad popped the question in early August. A source told the magazine, "He [Chad] makes her so happy. Both of their families could not be more excited." Well there you have it folks! We wish Avril and Chad all the luck in the world, (and meanwhile, Chad, this is how you remind me that I need to change my pants because I basically crapped them upon hearing the news.) Also, please enjoy the cat video below, as it perfectly illustrates how we felt when we got word of Chad and Avril's engagement.
One more time for emphasis: AVRIL LAVIGNE AND CHAD KROEGER ARE ENGAGED, AND WE ARE SHOCKED!
