  • Marc Webb May Have Found His Next Project

    Marc Webb

With Marc Webb's future with "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise up in the air, the director is considering a handful of films to be his next project. One of them could be the Allen Loeb-scripted flick "Only Boy Living in New York," according to new reports.

Thomspon on Hollywood spoke with "Ruby Sparks" producers Ron Yerxa and Albert Berger recently and learned that Webb is allegedly attached to direct the upcoming coming-of-age tale. The film has been in development for over seven years, and last we heard it was set to star Logan Lerman and be directed by Seth Gordon.

It's unclear if either of those factors has changed, but the Thompson story makes it seem as though Webb has taken over directing duties from Gordon. Lerman could still be up for the part, as "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" isn't set to start a franchise and "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" is in post-production. The young star is currently filming "Noah" with Darren Aronofsky.

"Only Boy Living in New York" tells the story of a recent college graduate named Thomas who learns that his father is having an affair. He does his best to stop their relationship, but ends up becoming involved with the woman himself. In the end, it's actually the "quirky neighbor" who teaches him about love, The Playlist reports.

Even though Thompson is reporting this directing news as fact, we're still categorizing it as a rumor for now. There have been a number of other films Webb has been considering for his follow-up to "The Amazing Spider-Man," including "Just Another Love Story," a "Jesus Christ Superstar" remake and "Age of Rage," and he still has a film commitment to Fox to take into account. There's also the fact that his future as director on "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is uncertain, so we're waiting to find out the final verdict on that. "Only Boy Living In New York" seems like a good fit for Webb's style of filmmaking, but we'll wait until an official confirmation is made before we start getting excited about his involvement.

  • '47 Ronin' Starring Keanu Reeves Delayed Until Christmas 2013

We've been anxiously awaiting the release of "47 Ronin" since Keanu Reeves was first attached to the project in late 2008, and now it looks like we're going to have to wait a bit longer.

Universal Pictures has announced a few changes in its release date line-up, as reported by Deadline. The new schedule will bump "47 Ronin" all the way back to Christmas Day 2013, where it will face off against Ben Stiller's remake of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." "47 Ronin" was originally scheduled to be released in November, but was moved back to February for reshoots. It seems like they're taking longer than the studio expected, or there's some other factor at play that's causing the lengthy delay of the film.

"47 Ronin" has been something of a passion project for Reeves, who signed on back in December 2008. The film nabbed director Carl Rinsch nearly a year later, opting to helm this project over the rumored "Alien 5." The script was written by Chris Morgan, the same man who penned "Fast Five." Back in 2009, he described the samurai film as similar to "300" and "Gladiator."

"I call it a story of revenge and impossible love," Reeves told MTV News last year. "The samurai become outcast and decide to enact revenge on the person who is responsible for the death of their lord."

He continued, "During this journey and revenge, things change."

Among the many reasons we're excited for this project, Reeves has said there's a swordfight between him and Hiroyuki Sanada, the esteemed Japanese actor of "Sunshine" and "The Last Samurai" fame. Hopefully that isn't one of the scenes that needs to be reshot, because the way Reeves described it made it sound freaking awesome.

  • Jessica Chastain Felt The Pressure Filming 'Zero Dark Thirty'

Like the confidential missions the movie is said to explore, "Zero Dark Thirty" has kept more than a few of its details well-protected secrets. Little is known about the upcoming Kathryn Bigelow movie aside from that it will retell at least part of the manhunt for Osama Bin Laden.

MTV News' Josh Horowitz spoke with one of the film's many stars, Jessica Chastain, about her role in the mysterious project and how filming such sensitive material affected the shoot.

Handling a topic as delicate and secretive as the hunt for Bin Laden is bound to come with some extra pressure, but shooting "Zero Dark Thirty" near where the actual events took place added a whole other layer of stress for the cast and crew.

"It was a very stressful shoot. Maybe that's all I should say," Chastain said. "It was a very stressful shoot, but how could it not be when you're dealing with that kind of material and you're in that part of the world. We were shooting part of it in Chandigarh, India, which is on the border of Pakistan."

Chastain hesitantly admitted that most, if not all, of the cast is playing real-life characters, which also complicates retelling their story. "It's such great responsibility in the story we were telling," she said. "It was a lot of pressure. I think the script is one of the best scripts that I have ever read, and my part is awesome. I'm excited for it to come out at the end of the year."

  • Kristen Stewart Out Of 'Snow White And The Huntsman' Sequel?

    SWATH

Could the planned sequel for "Snow White and the Huntsman" have lost its Snow White?

If new reports are to be believed, that seems to be the case. Following the affair scandal between leading lady Kristen Stewart and director Rupert Sanders, it's been unclear how Universal Studios would move forward with the film's follow-up. The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that the answer is actually quite simple: the sequel will focus on The Huntsman instead of Snow White.

This is an idea that was first teased by Universal chief Ron Meyer to THR back in April. "Meyer said that while the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman doesn't appear to lend itself to a sequel, Universal thinks it can do more movies based on the character of the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) if it is successful," the trade wrote.

It's unlikely that the studio said that in anticipation of last month's surprise outing of Stewart and Sanders, so it seems as though a "Huntsman" spin-off was in the cards all along. Hemsworth is certainly riding high now that "Thor" and "The Avengers" are such big successes, and by the time "Snow White and the Huntsman 2" starts filming he'll likely be done with "Thor: The Dark World" and a couple of years away from "The Avengers 2."

Of course, it's not even confirmed that Sanders is directing. Universal said that neither a writer nor a director have been picked for the sequel, though Sanders is still in contention for the role. "The studio is exploring options to continue the franchise and no decisions have been made," Universal told MTV News.

Meanwhile, Universal is telling The Los Angeles Times that Stewart's exclusion is not a done deal. "[Universal] insists that plans for a second movie centering on the Huntsman character played by Chris Hemsworth are proceeding and that Stewart's Snow White could still be a character in that film, despite reports that suggested otherwise," the newspaper insists.

  • 'Cosmopolis' Stars Summarize The Plot In 10 Seconds Or Less

"Cosmopolis" is not an easy film to describe. You can't really talk that much about the plot, because it's not really about the story. So how will the stars of the film describe "Cosmopolis" in 10 seconds or less?

Paul Giamatti pretty much rocked the challenge. Sarah Gadon took the easy way out going all thematic on us. David Cronenberg makes the movie sound much simpler than it actually is, but probably does the best of all of them.

You can hear from the leading man, Robert Pattinson, this Thursday during "MTV First." Pattinson will be on MTV starting at 7:49 p.m. ET to debut a never-before-seen clip from "Cosmopolis." Immediately afterward, he'll sit down with MTV News' Josh Horowitz for a 30-minute interview, where he'll answer some of your questions. All you'll have to do is tweet your questions to @MTVNews and using the hash-tag #AskRob.

  • 'Raiders Of The Lost Ark' Coming To IMAX Screens Next Month

    Indy Blu

There are some movies that require a big screen viewing at least once. The first Indiana Jones movie, "Raiders of the Lost Ark," certainly falls within that category, but next month, you'll be able to catch it on a very big screen.

ScreenCrush confirmed yesterday that you'll be able to see an IMAX-sized boulder chasing Harrison Ford starting September 7. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" will get a weeklong re-release in the large format, timed for the debut of the series on Blu-ray.

Steven Spielberg personally oversaw the conversion to 70mm and assured the New York Times that he hasn't borrowed any tricks him his friend George Lucas. Nothing from the original film will be changed (i.e. no visual effects updates) besides from increasing the image size.

"It's the only marked contrast we have to the generations that are seeing our movies on phones and hand-held platforms," Spielberg told the Times. It's a complete relief to be able to see a film that many people have just experienced on a palm-sized platform technology, suddenly hurled at that them on an Imax-sized screen."

You'll be able to catch "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in 70mm IMAX starting September 7 through September 13. "Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures" on Blu-ray hits shelves on September 18.

  • Ron Howard's Project Imaginat10n Recruits First-Time Filmmakers Jamie Foxx, Eva Longoria And More

    Project Imaginat10n

When next you find Ron Howard, he'll be at the helm of an all-new project with five first-time filmmakers in tow — first-timers, yes, but names that you're surely familiar with.

Howard and Canon U.S.A. have announced their partnership for Project Imaginat10n, a creative endeavor where consumer photographs will inspire the creation of short films. A similar project in 2011 — Project Imagin8ion — yielded the award-winning short film "when you find me," directed by Howard's daughter Bryce Dallas Howard. This time, however, five different directors have been tapped to make their own shorts based on user-submitted photographs: actors Eva Longoria and Jamie Foxx, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, designer and Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman, and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy.

"[Project Imaginat10n] is just a scaling up of the experiment in a really dynamic way. The five directors are in and of themselves so accomplished and the aesthetics they represent are so diverse," Howard told MTV News about the project. "I'm really fascinated to see what they come up with."

But don't expect to see much, or any, of Howard's vision in the short films these directors ultimately produce. "I don't think the experiment is 'how will James Murphy respond to Ron Howard's leadership?' I don't think that's what we want," said the director. "I think it's 'what do James Murphy and Biz Stone bring of themselves to this experiment?' I'm happy to be a support system and a cheerleader but I think that's as far as that's going to go."

In fact, Howard believes he's the one who's going to learn from Foxx, Longoria, Stone, Chapman and Murphy. "I think I'll learn something when I look at a photograph and see how it's applied to their film. I'm going to learn something about them and how their imaginations work," he said. "It'll challenge me to keep looking more deeply and more open-mindedly at not just old photographs but the world around me and what other people create."

The whole point of Project Imaginat10n, as Howard explained in the project's announcement, is to prove that "sources of inspiration can come from anyone or anything," even something as simple as a photograph. For Howard, the most unusual place he's found inspiration for a film? The director's answer, without skipping a beat: "Vomit."

"When I was going to make a movie in Argentina, 'Gung-Ho,' I had three young kids on the flight. It was before my son was born," he recalled. "It was a 17-hour flight to Buenos Aires. In the first twenty minutes of the flight, I was sitting next to Bryce, who was then three and a half or four. I got her to sample some vegetarian sushi that I thought she might like. She sampled it very dutifully and I thought, 'Wow, that's kind of cool! She wasn't creeped out! She really did it!' And then she projectile vomited all over me."

"I was miserable! I didn't have a change of clothes. My twin daughters were crying. It was a low point in my life," the director continued, in much better spirits than he must have been on that day. Later, after landing in Buenos Aires, Howard thought to himself, "'Nobody told me about this. Nobody explained any of this for me.' And it led to the idea, very directly, of making 'Parenthood.' I was staring at this seventeen hour old puke stain on my shirt that I hadn't had the chance to really clean up, and that led to that movie and, all these years later, a TV show."

The moral of the story? "I think ideas come from puke on your shirt. They come from something you've lived and something you've observed," he said. "You never know where that eureka idea is going to come from."

Visit the Project Imaginat10n website to find out how to get involved with the project.
