  • Lauren Conrad Celebrates National S'mores Day

It's Friday, so we're going to keep it light...and fluffy...and oh-so gooey. In case the date isn't highlighted on your iCal, today is National S'mores Day, and at least one of our favorite starlets is getting in on the chocolate-marshmallow madness.

Lauren Conrad knows a few things about sweets—her first novel was titled "L.A. Candy," after all, so we trust the former "Hills" star has offered up one life-changing recipe for s'mores bars (which, let's be honest, is probably the only improvement you could make to the campfire staple). We're drooling already.

So, Crushers, here's wishing you a happy National S'mores Day. And if you have any of those bars left over, Lauren, I think you know where our offices are.

  • Style Superstar: Lizzy Caplan Is Emerald Pretty

Okay, so we've loved Lizzy Caplan for years and years—ever since she played the nemesis of Regina George in "Mean Girls" and delivered one of the most quotable smackdowns in recent cinematic history ("I am so sorry Regina. Really, I don't know why I did this. I guess it's probably because I've got a big *lesbian* crush on you! Suck on THAT!"). So when we spied her in the trailer for the sure-to-be-perfect "Bachelorette," a dark comedy starring four of our favorite ladies that's one of the most-anticipated movies this year, we were understandably psyched. But if you've been holding out on adding Lizzy to your list of Hollywood ladycrushes, here's one more reason: She's this week's Style Superstar!

Lizzy's look at the Swiss "Bachelorette" premiere this week was unconventional and stunning—a deep emerald-green dress with a daring plunge at the front, paired with smoky makeup, a simple pendant and intricate leather cage sandals that made a statement of their own. Not only does this dress win points for reminding us in the best possible way of Keira Knightley's evening gown from "Atonement" (and let's be honest, it could win on those grounds alone), but it's a bold choice for an actress who's only just emerging as A-list material, establishing Lizzy as a serious beauty with a bold sense of style on the red carpet. Here's hoping she keeps bringing her fashion game.

And speaking of surprises, here's one that wasn't quite so fun: the usually reliable Malin Akerman, in a coral gown that would have been gorgeous if it fit. But it doesn't...does it? It's hard to tell whether the blousy bodice is an intentional accent or a case of poor tailoring, but that's a problem in its own right; either way, it's awkward and makes Malin look stumpy, which she most certainly is not.

  • Saoirse Ronan Lands Lead In 'Mary Queen Of Scots'

If you thought that Saoirse Ronan would abandon more serious, dramahhhhhhtic work just because she'd snagged a starring role in the sci-fi love story "The Host," here's some extremely compelling evidence to the contrary: Deadline reports that the Irish actress has just signed on to that most challenging of acting projects, a historical biopic called "Mary Queen of Scots," where she'll play the lovely and unlucky lady of the titular role.

Michael Hirst, who's already tackled the Elizabethan period to great acclaim with his movies "Elizabeth" and "Elizabeth: The Golden Age", will direct—which means we can expect a lush, thorough and extravagant portrayal of young Mary's brief, sad life. (Short version, for those not in the know: Mary challenged her cousin Elizabeth's right to the English throne. It didn't end well.)

Saoirse has been keeping busy since wrapping "The Host"—you can expect to see her face on theater marquees at least three separate times between now and 2014—but this is likely to be her biggest and most challenging role yet, and an excellent change for her to garner a second Oscar nomination before she turns 20 (Hirst's "Elizabeth" films did a similar service for Cate Blanchett). And for people who loved her breakout performance in the 1930s drama "Atonement," Saoirse's return to period films (and the chance to see her sweeping around a castle draped in brocade and followed by ladies-in-waiting) make this one to watch for.

Are you psyched to see Saoirse in her biggest role yet?

  • 'Catching Fire' Winnows Chaff

We just got the Chaff from Lionsgate—or rather, the official word from the studio that E. Roger Mitchell has been cast in the role of Chaff in the forthcoming "Hunger Games" follow-up, "Catching Fire."

Chaff is a tribute from District 11, who joins Katniss and Peeta in the 75th Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell. He's basically the Haymitch of his district, thanks to a penchant for the hooch, so it's rather fitting then, that the two victors are friends. Another of the character's noticeable characteristics? He's missing a hand from his first time in the arena.

The tribute's real-world alter ego, E. Roger Mitchell, has decades of stage experience and numerous TV and movie credits to his name, including "One Tree Hill," "The Shield" and "Battle Los Angeles." His addition capstones a four-day "Catching Fire" casting bonanza, which includes Alan Ritchson as Gloss, Bruno Gunn as Brutus and Meta Golding as Enobaria. (And let's not forget that rumor about Patrick St. Esprit playing Romulus, which kicked off the week...)

  • Nina Dobrev On Dating 'Vampire Diaries' Costar Ian Somerhalder

Can you think of a better newsstand home for the adventurously stylish Nina Dobrev than on the cover of a magazine called Fashion? Neither can we! So it's terrific to see her looking perfectly in place on the front of their September issue, where she posed for a photoshoot wearing some typically bold and beautiful outfits that ordinary humans couldn't pull off even in their wildest dreams (that suit she's sporting on the cover? So fabulous, and SO not fair).

And inside, she's talking candidly about her on-set wardrobe, her relationship with Ian Somerhalder and how her role on "The Vampire Diaries" has prepared her for what—and whatever—comes next.

According to Nina, fashion isn't just something she enjoys playing with in her personal life; it's also a source of professional inspiration.

"Whenever I'm in Elena's clothing, my demeanor changes and I just feel more casual and effortless," she said, describing how the costume racks for her dual role sit on opposite sides of the room so that she can get dressed while in character. "As soon as I put on any of Katherine's gear, like a corset, my outlook changes because my posture is changing. Clothes are such a big help."

Also a big help? The way that playing two different people on such a diverse show has honed her acting skills, as Nina explained that the way "Vampire Diaries" has tested her range in a way that's left her ready to take on any role she could want.

"It really is an actor's boot camp for me," she said. "Once I'm done with it, I will be able to do anything and everything. I feel like I've done everything you could possibly imagine on this one show—action, drama, comedy. We've even done lots of stunts. I have to emotionally get to places that I sometimes don't want to go."

And speaking of going emotional places... okay, sorry, worst segue ever. But no interview with Nina would be complete without a question or two about boyfriend (and co-star) Ian Somerhalder—and fortunately, she doesn't mind talking about it (albeit in a sort of vague way, but hey, it's something):

"I feel like when I'm with someone who's older than me they have a certain amount of experience in life," she said (and yes, Ian's 10 years her senior). "There's a maturity. There's a different sort of knowledge that they bring to a relationship and the conversations are very different."

But don't be looking for an engagement announcement (or a pregnancy one, either) from the star; while Nina feels more than prepared for whatever the entertainment biz has to throw at her, she's less ready for anything when it comes to her personal life—and she's comfortable with that.

"Eventually I am going to marry and have a family, but not anytime soon," she said. Which is fine. And we'll just save this squealy "OMG NINA AND IAN ARE ENGAGED" post we've been writing for a later date, shall we? Okay then.

  • Jonathan Rhys Meyers Confirmed For 'Mortal Instruments'

Prepare to be thoroughly confused as to whether you should find villainous Shadowhunter Valentine Morgenstern terrifying or totally hot.

We are more than a little excited to report that the rumors are true: Constantin Films and author Cassandra Clare have confirmed that Jonathan Rhys Meyers will wear the runes in the "Mortal Instruments" movie "City of Bones."

"So this is not me posting news so much as confirming the rumors: YES, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is going to play Valentine," Cassie wrote on her tumblr late last night. "I've liked JRM since he was in 'Velvet Goldmine' and I have to admit that image was what sprang immediately to mind when the producer called me and said '...Jonathan Rhys Meyers?'"

Beyond the the 1998 rock drama, the Irish actor is probably best known for portraying mercurial King Henry VIII in the sexy Showtime series "The Tudors." His other film credits include "Mission: Impossible III," "Match Point" and "Bend It Like Beckham."

Production on the supernatural thriller, which also stars Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, is slated to begin within the next week or so in Toronto.

"City of Bones" will hit theaters in August 2013.
