- Star Spotting: The Wanted Swim With Sharks In Australia! (PHOTOS)
The Wanted swim with sharks while in Australia. We hyperventilate even thinking about it.
We get that when you're a big deal like The Wanted, you get access to one-of-a-kind opportunities like, oh, I dunno, scuba diving with man-eating sharks. But who signed off on The Wanted undertaking such a dangerous endeavor WITHOUT CHECKING WITH US FIRST!? We'd really prefer the Best New Artist nominees arrive to
our future weddingthe 2012 MTV VMAs in one piece.See more photos of The Wanted's trip down under after the jump.
Does that shark's face totally look hungry for The Wanted or is it just us?
The "Chasing The Sun" singers took to their Twitter and Facebook to share photos of them diving with some ferocious-looking sharks while in Australia. And while we give them mad props for having the guts to do such a TERRIFYING thing (we've seen our fair share of Shark Week to know what can go down!), we actually wonder what's scarier: swimming with bloody-hungry, sharped-tooth sharks or dodging swarms of hungry boy band-loving fans while walking the streets. Maybe the bottom of the sea is the only place The Wanted can get a little break from the hysterics of the fan-girldom. Welp, don't stay down there too long, guys.

Переслать - A New Aaliyah Album Is Coming, And Here's Why Drake And 40 Are Right For The Job
Oh hey boat-rockers! (Is that a thing? No? OK, cool, let's move on.) I'm Sam Lansky, and this is my column "Pop Think," and the only thing on my mind this week is the posthumous release from the late R&B chanteuse Aaliyah, revered for the legacy she left as a trailblazer in R&B, hip-hop and electronica despite her tragic and untimely death in 2001. But now, more than a decade after her passing, a new posthumous release is in the works, spearheaded by her longtime fan, Drake, and one of the most cutting-edge producers in the game, Noah "40" Shebib.
And although Aaliyah's had several posthumous releases in the past -- 2002's I Care 4 U went platinum -- this album promises to be the first release of entirely new material since 2001. The first track from the album, the Drake-assisted song "Enough Said," premiered this weekend. It's a gorgeously spaced-out, ambient R&B track that suggests the upcoming album is going to make excellent use of the remaining recordings. The Princess of R&B may be gone, but this new release will just help reinforce her legacy as one of the industry's finest talents.
Aaliyah in July 2001.
When Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001, her relatively brief career, marked by a density of rich talent and innovation that was virtually unparalleled, was tragically cut short. Mentored by Timbaland and Missy Elliott, she produced one brilliant single after another, including the iconic "Are You That Somebody?" with its eerie crying baby sample; the lush, sensuous "Rock the Boat"; and the slick, skittering "Try Again," which earned Aaliyah her first and only No. 1 on the Hot 100. Her potential seemed endless.
Aaliyah's sound was futuristic but consistently soulful, characterized by unexpected production elements that made her music more haunting than her counterparts. And notes of that breathy, electro R&B can still be heard in the songs that catapulted Timbaland to superstardom in the last decade, albeit in a more pumped-up, ultra-radio-friendly mode. But Aaliyah's finest moments were always the silkiest, the most melancholy -- which is why it makes perfect sense that Drake and 40 would be at the helm on this posthumous release.
Read more about why Drake and 40 are right for Aaliyah's new album after the jump.
It's not just because Aaliyah is Drake's hero (he has her face tattooed on his back!), but because Drake might be the most likable bummed-out artist in the game, at his best when he's meditating on the emptiness at the heart of excess and the challenges of intimacy. His go-to producer Noah "40" Shebib has helped him execute that, on the openly aspirational "Successful," the withering "Houstatlantavegas" and the drunk-dial anthem "Marvin's Room." 40's other work has been equally compelling. His work on Alicia Keys' "Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready)" was a masterpiece of trembling vulnerability, and he produced JoJo's new single "Demonstrate," which instantly became the most critically adored song of her career. Together, their passion for the project and sonic sensibilities are incredibly well-suited to handle Aaliyah's album with the grace and respect she so deserves.
And despite reports that Timbaland was upset with Drake for forging ahead with this project without his and Missy's involvement, Drake assured MuchMusic that won't be the case: "We're gonna pull in some classic people, like anybody who used to work with Aaliyah or that was essential in her career, we definitely hope to have them involved," he said. I'm crossing my fingers that he sticks to his word, so this album sees all those folks working together to extend Aaliyah's legacy even further. Her fans deserve it, and so does she.

Переслать - Here's No Doubt's 'Push And Shove' Album Cover Art! (PHOTO)
No Doubt get arty on their album cover art for "Push And Shove."
It's here! It's official! It's No Doubt's cover art for their new album, Push And Shove! And it's EPIC! Not only does it capture every single band member giving SERIOUS face, but it's also actual art -- the band worked with with legendary photo-realist/muralist El Mac. You guys, these are HAND-PAINTED images, NOT a few photos run through Instagram filters.
No Doubt unveiled the cover of their sixth album, which officially drops Sept. 25, along with a webisode that documents parts of the photo shoot. Pay especially close attention to the passion the band has for making the album cover a success -- could the cover offer hints to what the new record might sound like? (Also, anyone else loving the Let It Be quadtych reference?)
We already LOVE the upbeat vibe of the first single, "Settle Down," but all those swirling brushstrokes and the bold color scheme could mean we're in for one wild, artistic endeavor. And that concludes our attempt at pretending we actually learned something in the "Art Appreciation 101" class we took in college.

Переслать - Watch Ellie Goulding's 'Anything Could Happen' Lyric Video
Ellie Goulding is back with her hope-themed single "Anything Could Happen."
Earlier this summer, we heard from English singer Ellie Goulding on her team-up with Tinie Tempah on "Hanging On." Now Ellie is back with "Anything Could Happen," from her upcoming album, Halcyon. Is that true, Ellie? I can get out of my zillion-roommate apartment, where no one does the dishes? I could find my true love walking out of work today? I could have One Direction play my house party?!?! (The song is probably more metaphorical, so I'm dialing it back. Deep breath.)
Watch the lyric video for Ellie Goulding's "Anything Could Happen" after the jump.
In the unique take on the lyric video, Ellie reached out to fans, who took pictures of the lyrics on Instagram to create the visuals for the trippy, retro-looking clip for the song. The uplifting synth-heavy jam promises that "Anything Could Happen." Maybe Ellie's newfound posi view (and synth beats) came from her boyfriend, Skrillex. Well, while that's pure speculation, if Halcyon (due Oct. 9) has any drops on it, I think we'll know if he's had a WEE bit of influence on her sound.

Переслать - Buzzworthy Exclusive: Check Out We The Kings' Warped Tour Photos!
We The Kings play to packed crowds at Warped Tour.
We don't have to remind you that We The Kings love to party (they named their EP Party, Fun, Love & Radio, hellooo). But we didn't quite get the degree to which they rage until we checked out the exclusive photos they sent over from the Denver stop on this summer's Warped Tour. The boys totally ripped it up, playing to packs of sweaty fans and the WTK obsessed. Hunter even found the time to break for a much needed make-out sesh with his adorable girlfriend (insert jealousy here_________). Anyway, looks like We The King had an excellent summer that, sadly, was undoubtedly better than yours and mine. But at least we get to look at it!

Переслать - New Video: B.o.B. Featuring André 3000, 'Play The Guitar'
André 3000 and B.o.B. are pixelated in their new "Play The Guitar" video. As we all know by now, André 3000 doesn't just make a cameo on any old record. But B.o.B. was lucky enough to snag him for an assist on his new tune, "Play The Guitar." The song was scheduled to appear on B.o.B.'s sophomore LP, Strange Clouds, but it ended up not appearing on the album. So we're MASSIVELY hyped that it surfaced. A cheeky, high-energy record, B.o.B.'s new jam is kinda pop, kinda R&B, kinda hip-hop, and then also kinda reminds us of Eve's "Tambourine." Y'know, if all of that makes sense.
Watch B.o.B. Featuring André 3000, "Play The Guitar" after the jump.
Visually, André and B.o.B.'s "Play The Guitar" video consists mainly of Lite-Brite-esque black-and-white pixelation, which eventually takes the form of images and words. We occasionally see the pixels shape out lyrics, and then there's that one time when an animated dude defecates the number 3,000 (we're assuming it's André?). Sure, the video is totally bizarre, and we'd sort of prefer to check out B.o.B. and André's cute mugs, but then again we have been trying to encourage a Lite-Brite renaissance, and we appreciate this video's contribution to the cause.

Переслать - New Song: 2 Chainz Featuring Nicki Minaj, 'I Love Dem Strippers'
2 Chainz and Nicki Minaj declare their love for strippers on the directly titled I Love Dem Strippers."
2 Chainz loves to collaborate (remember his dope "Birthday Song" collabo with Kanye West?) and who better to add to his collaboration roster than his current tourmate and "Beez In The Trap" cohort, Nicki Minaj? Slated to appear on the rapper's forthcoming album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, "I Love Dem Strippers" is about well, strippers, stripping and werquin' a pole, jiggling, so on and so forth, and what have you. These two truly respect the art of dance, or whatever.
Listen to 2 Chainz Featuring Nicki Minaj, "I Love Dem Strippers" after the jump.
Throughout the record, we see both Nicki and 2 Chainz profess their love for stripper chicks. In his slow, yet directed flow, 2 Chainz rhymes, "Them broke h*** can't pay attention/ Your cutie missing, New Edition./ Mr. Telephone Man, there's something wrong with my line/ When I call my baby's number, I get a click every time," a hat-tip to the 1984 New Edition hit "Mr. Telephone Man." Nicki is up next, and though we were kind hoping she'd go all crazy Roman on us, she spits with more measured fire and makes sure to shout out her Young Money crew, "Where's Stunna?/ Where's Wayne?/ That's red on my wristband, SB, Mack Maine/ Tell Tyga, looking for this b**** called Blac Chyna." Right, so did we really need another song about strippers? Ehhh, probably not. But if another one had to come along, we're glad it belongs to Nicki and 2 Chainz, you know? Something about that just feels right.

Переслать - Lady Gaga's All Purple Swag On The Cover Of Vogue (PHOTOS)
Lady Gaga slays the couture game on the cover of Vogue's September issue.
Everyone knows the September issue is every fashion mag's VIP issue (ad dollahs, yo!), so who better to grace Vogue's September cover than Lady Gaga. Exactly, nobody! In fact, not only was Gaga given the honor of being the September cover girl, but the Lady's cover marks the 120th anniversary of the magazine. Decked in a structured, bright purple Marc Jacobs ball gown, Mother Monster showed off her hourglass figure while doing some incredible smizing. And then there's the hair, which is so fierce it should probably just be given its own cover. But moving right along...
Check out more photos from Lady Gaga's Vogue September issue spread after the jump.
Only Gaga could work this look. We look terrible in hats.
Inside the issue, Gaga discusses her vision for her "Born This Way Ball" extravaganza, explaining, "I really wanted to break the mold of what modern touring is now." (Mission accomplished, FYI.) Later, Gaga also touched upon what inspires her to make music: "I don't really make records for people to listen to and go, 'Wow, she's a genius.' I'd really like you to order a drink, maybe kiss the person you came with that evening or rediscover something about your past that makes you feel even more brave." Now if only I had someone to kiss, that'd work out really great. The Vogue September issue hits stands Aug. 14.

Переслать - POSTED: MGK Lives In A Basement, Shares Favorite 'Invincible' Memory (VIDEO)
MGK talks about living in a basement and his favorite "Invincible" memory in this week's POSTED.
We may have to patiently wait until MGK's EST 4 Life mixtape drops (Aug. 14!) and his Lace Up album release (Oct. 9!), but take comfort in knowing that the Ohio-grown rapper is the MTV POSTED artist for August! All month long, we follow the Breaking Woodie winner through exclusive interviews, videos and photos over at POSTED.MTV.com.
Last week, MGK chatted about what it was like to work with legendary rappers Diddy and Waka Flocka Flame, but this time around, we learn that just 'cause you're brushing shoulders with ballers doesn't mean you live like one -- MGK still lives in his manager's mom's basement. And that's how you work from the bottom up, guys.
Watch MGK chat about living in a basement and his favorite "Invincible" memories after the jump.
In the video, MGK admits that while he may be blowing up in the fame game, he wants to remain humble through the process, and that's why he still lives in a basement: "Honestly, I just really want to treasure this almost-famous stage." But just 'cause MGK is a cellar dweller doesn't mean he's not making magical memories along the way. In another video clip, the rapper talks about his favorite making of "Invincible" memory. Technically, it's a bummer moment that involves getting booed by 18,000 people in a Miami stadium, but MGK says the song taught him to hold his head high and brush it off his shoulders. Lesson learned: Haters gonna hate, but he don't give an eff -- even if there are 18,000 of them.

Переслать - New Song: Colin Munroe Featuring Pusha T, 'The Fight Of My Life' (Alternate Version)
The alternate version of Colin Munroe's "The Fight Of My Life" features an extra verse by Pusha T.
It took Canadian singer-songwriter Colin Munroe a second (and a half) to break into the music biz. But, once his his 2008 video for his remix of Kanye West's "Flashing Lights" went viral and his team-up with Drake on "Cannonball" dropped, Colin's career was booming. And did we mention that Kanye himself ended up including Colin's remix on one of his own mixtapes? Can't top Yeezy's co-sign unless you know God personally. Oh, and speaking of Kim Kardashian's boyfriend, his G.O.O.D. rapper and "New God Flow" collaborator Pusha T makes another cameo on the alternate version of Colin's Monroe's "The Fight Of My Life," which originally came earlier this year.
Listen to Colin Munroe featuring Pusha T, "The Fight Of My Life" (Alternate Version) after the jump.
Set to an ethereal, hip-hop rooted track that wouldn't feel out of place in a Bladerunner-type of haunted futuro setting or a SUPER emo-aggro Olympic training video, Colin's hazy alt-rock pipes set the tone as he sings, "Look at my hands look at my face look at my face what do you see/Look at my past look at ma scars they can tell you how I ever got this far/You can see my breath you know I am breathing/You can feel my heart you know it's beating." Intensity swag. Pusha's verse comes next, and not only does it give the song some rap game cred, but it's poignant all on its own: "Crawled up the gutters of the ghetto/ain't no guitars when we talking heavy metal/All I know is guns and roses selling poison/Force power steering through the city like an intrusion." Not sure I ever would have paired Colin's hazy rock pipes with Pusha's aggressive flow, but whoever did deserves something REALLY EXPENSIVE because it's an inspired collaboration. Be on the lookout for Colin's new mixtape, #UnsungHero, out soon.
