- 2012 MTV VMA Performances: Check Out The Highlights!
One Direction, Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean, and Rihanna will all perform tonight! Plus some surprise guests!
OK guys, the 2012 MTV VMAs are finally here. I'm dying! I'm kvelling! ::Reaches for paper bag to breath into:: Yeah, I think the entire Internet knows by now that We. Are. Crazy. Excited. About. This. We know there's practically a metric ton of stuff to watch between tonight's performances, presenters, "Oh Sh*t" moments, and thank y'all speeches, but really, we have to ask: what would any VMAs show be without its performers? It's practically all we spent the last eight plus weeks blogging about! (And dreaming about.) And if you've been following along like a good Belieber or Directioner, you would already know that Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean, Alicia Keys, Pink, One Direction, Green Day, and more are all slated to take the stage at this year's show. So follow along with us as we take you through each of tonight's performances, mmmkay? Here we go!

Rihanna kills it in red on the VMA stage.
+ RIHANNA PERFORMS "COCKINESS" / "WE FOUND" LOVE WITH A$AP ROCKY: Woah. We always knew Rihanna knew how to make an entrance, but HEL-OO NURSE. We are officially enthralled. Rihanna bravely opened the 2012 MTV VMAs by entering the stage all decked out in red (and sitting on a THRONE!) Queen Rih. We know. Encased in a crazy, neon green light show, Rihanna strolled out on the stage (well, "strolled" being a kinder word for..."gyrating"). As "Cockiness" blended into "We Found Love," Rihanna walked out into the audience (which we think totally does justice to the track's club-ready beat). Soon after, A$AP Rocky joined Rihanna for a little side-by-side singing / rapping. And don't think we didn't catch you stealing that neck kiss, A$SAP! Saucy.
+ PINK PERFORMS "BLOW ME (ONE LAST KISS)": Pink kicked off her performance in front of an electric snare drum kit (little drummer Pink?) donning sparkly hot pants and a wicked faux hawk...and then sang the opening lines to "Get the Party Started." Swoon! Throwback! We're also swooning over Pink's OTHER VMA throwback -- remember that time Pink went flying into the air via trapeze? Well, she did it again! After her feet touched back down to Earth (er, the VMA stage) Pink sang an energetic rendition of "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" among some leggy giant lips. Yes, you heard that right. Then the leggy lips spat out some confetti onto the crowd. Well, I guess you just had to be there. But it was COOL. Well done, Pink!!
+ FRANK OCEAN PERFORMS "THINKING ABOUT YOU": Yeah, we're going to be thinking about Frank Ocean long after this performance. For a long, long time. After two SUPER energetic performances by Rihanna and Pink, Frank Ocean took things down a notch by singing a considerably softer, more soulful edition of "Thinking About You" while surrounded by a stunning, picturesque night sky and campfire. Which only leads us to say...can we have some s'more Frank Ocean, please? Love.

Demi Lovato slays the 2012 VMA Pre-Show with a dance version of her #1 smash "Give Your Heart A Break."
And off we go! The 2012 MTV VMAs are finally upon us. After weeks of teasing you with endless performer updates, behind-the-scenes photos, and crucial info regarding the BOMB VMA lighting scheme, the show has finally begun! Well the Pre-Show, that is, and who better to give us the jump-start that we need other than the scary contraption riding, mini-cupcake eating, "X Factor" judging, Demi Lovato!

Demi took the stage to perform her smash "Give Your Heart A Break," which, if you hadn't noticed by it playing on literally every radio station ever created, is currently #1 on the Pop Songs chart on Billboard. The consummate overachiever, Demi thought it might be fun (which it was) to turn her pop smash into, get this, a club record! It's like, just when you thought you couldn't be any more in love with Demi's #1 jam, she performs an EDM version LIVE at the VMA pre-show. If that doesn't say IRL goddess, then we don't know what does. While taking us to da club, the "Best Video With A Message" nominee (and now winner!) strutted her stuff in a sparkly black dress with, sky-high heeled boots, and hair so luscious she should probably go straight to a Pantene photo shoot. And also: confetti! An endless stream of red, Royal-Wedding worthy confetti. Now, Lovatics, go and tweet a slew of congratulatory 140 character messages to your Queen! She totes deserves it.

Demi Lovato holds a tiny cupcake, and we're not sure how the room could contained all that cuteness.
Usually, we're all "WTF!" about people who take photos with their food and share it on the Internet (unless it's being smooshed in to Simon Cowell's face -- LOL!), but when it's Demi Lovato holding a tiny cupcake backstage at Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, WE CAN'T GET ENOUGH! This is just too much cuteness in one photo! (And for the record: Demi could take pictures of her holding a glass of water, and we'd probably still flip the eff out. That's just the type of respect you earn when you're flawlessly fashionable AND nominated/performing at the 2012 MTV VMAs.
The singer tweeted the photo along with the caption: "Yum!!! Mini- cupcakes at Fallon show...thanks @jimmyfallon." Demi not only nibbled on cute treats while looking adorbz, she was equally cute during her interview with Jimmy Fallon where she talked her "X Factor" judging gig, the success of "Give Your Heart A Break," and how excited she is about her pre-show performance of the song TONIGHT at the 2012 MTV VMAs! She also humbly gushed about how honored she is that "Skyscraper" is nominated in the Best Video With A Message category. Basically, Demi's winning at everything in life, which proves that you CAN have your (mini) cake, and eat it too!

We know you're all probably staring at the clock/phone/soul right now, waiting intently for the 2012 MTV VMAs to begin. But before you watch the VMA Pre-Show at 7pm E.T. (featuring a performance by Demi Lovato!) and settle in for the main show at 8pm E.T. (featuring performances by Pink, Frank Ocean, Green Day, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and more), you can watch a very special VMA All Access Livestream on vma.mtv.com! And not only that, but the All Access Live Stream will continue throughout the entire show. You'll have exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the Staples Center AND the red carpet AND celebrities ranging from cute to beautiful! Oh, and there are DRESSING ROOM CAMS! HYFR!!!
Before the show starts at 8pm E.T., you'll get behind-the-scenes access to red carpet, and from 8pm to 10pm, it's all about behind-the-scenes spy cam action. Liam, along with the rest of One Direction, took a day at the beach to chill out before the big show tonight.
When in LA, right? VMA nominees and first-time performers One Direction understandably woke up needing to blow off some steam before the big show. And what better place is there to do that than the beach? I mean, hey, if it was your first time performing at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, you'd be pretty nervous too, right? Yeah, that's what we thought. You'd be TERRIFIED! Though they've already chatted with us about their first time, starred in some amazing slo-mo promos, caught them behind the scenes; all there is left to do is get on stage and perform. Oh, and apparently ride some waves, too.
The boys posted the pics of their morning surf session on Instagram along with the caption: "Liam waxing his board." We know what you're thinking: What must we do TO HAVE A BEACH GETAWAY WITH 1D?! And in case you were wondering, Directioners: voting is STILL OPEN for Best New Artist and Most Shareworthy Video, so don't stare at Liam TOO long.

Mariah Carey recently added a little extra awww factor to her performance at the 2012 NFL Kickoff Concert! (We repeat: Mariah hit insanely unobtainable octaves while holding a glittery microphone in one hand an adorable pooch in the other -- mind officially blown). And are you taking notes, Miley Cyrus? You've got some competition, lady! Also, does anybody know how you come back in your next life as a celeb's dog? We're interested in applying.
The modelsque singer recently hit up Rockefellar stage in New York City to perform her new hit "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" while toting her Jack Russell Terrier, Jill E. Beans (we can't even with that name). Aside from looking slightly bored, we're definitely thinking the pup has star power! Actually, Mariah should totally have Jill E. as her sidekick at her new "American Idol" judging gig. Hey, Cee-Lo had a cat and a bird companion while judging on "The Voice" -- so we're not totally barking up the wrong tree here! (WUMP-WUMP.)

We all know Lady Gaga is 110% invested in making ARTPOP her best album yet. Truthfully, we don't know how she finds the time, in between getting tatted up constantly, her upcoming tour, taking matching pics with her dog, and spending time with the boyfriend. But rest assured, Mother Monster is ready to exceed all expectations with her new album... and perhaps more? According to Gaga, "ARTPOP is not just an ALBUM its a PROJECT." Orly? YA RLY!

In a post on Littlemonsters.com, Gaga explained the details behind ARTPOP's multimedia experience. "ARTPOP will be released as an IPAD, iPhone, mobile and computer compatible application (WORLD) that is completely interactive with chats, films for every song, extra music, content, gaga inspired games, fashion updates, magazines, and more still in the works," Gaga wrote. She also talked about updating the app on the fly, just like she does her Twitter and LittleMonsters.com. While she promised that the album will have a physical and digital release as well, she did urge her fans to "start asking for IPADS FOR XMAS!!" Um, no problem, Gaga. I'm practicing my pitch to the 'rents right now!

OMG, guys, can you stand it?! Because WE CANNOT. The 2012 MTV VMAs are MERE HOURS away, and we're practically holding back tears of joy thinking about it.
Because we're major snoopsWe were dying to see what people were up to in the final hours before the VMAs kick off tonight at 8pm E.T., so we took a peek backstage to visit VMA-nominated songstress Taylor Swift and British boy band (and perfect hair pioneers) One Direction. We now have these CHAR-MING behind-the-scenes clips of the two acts gettin' ready, or if you want, you can also watch them on 1D and Taylor's MTV artist pages. From the looks of it, Taylor spent time hanging out backstage before the VMAs strumming and humming the tune to her new single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," and apparently fending the boys (read: Kevin Hart) off with a stick. (Man, isn't life hard when you're a tall, leggy blonde who can play guitar?) After talking to us about his (cough fictional cough) breakup with Taylor, VMA host Kevin Hart confronts her in person about "dumping" him. "Really, Taylor?? You know what, for the last time, stop writing songs about me!" Taylor stares back, clueless. "This...this isn't about you," says Taylor. Suuure, sure. "YOU'RE ALL ALIKE!" yells Kevin before storming out. Awww, it's ok, guy! Whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger... AND more VMA ready!
One Direction, on the other hand, are just boyz being boyz in their behind-the-scenes video. After telling us all about their first time (cough performing at the VMAs cough), and starring in their own collection of dreamy slo-mo promo videos (still swooning over here), Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn, and Louis are seen in a charming montage where they do everything from goofily grin at the camera to, er, pretending to punch the camera. Well, just don't punch the camera when you're actually performing at the VMA stage, K guys?

The Jonas Brothers go brunching...AGAIN!
It's been so exciting to see the Jonas Brothers hanging out 24/7 again! Over the past few months, the Bros have been seen all over town doing things like announcing reunion shows (!!), writing music, having Nerf Gun wars in the studio, Twitter hacking, and most importantly, EATING A LOT OF BREAKFAST! (Personally, we are major supporters of enjoying breakfast for lunch, dinner, and late-night snacks. Breakfast ALL THE TIME!) We caught the JoBros doing brunch together last month, and as luck would have it, they're back on the eggs Benedict train this month, too!
Eggs Benedict may be a stretch (because have you seen these boys? Can we say EGG WHITES ONLY?), but whatever their breakfast food of choice, the point is: even more photos of the Jonas Brothers together doing normal family things! Along with the adorbz picture of Kevin, Nick, Pops Jonas, and younger brother Tim at the brunch table, Joe tweeted: "Pops and bros brunch." Would it be weird to nominate this photo as a PSA on family values? Well that, and the importance of your first meal of the day. Gotta get that metabolism cranking!

Trust the brilliant minds behind "Glee" to produce a Britney Spears and Justin Bieber mashup.
OK, hold the phone. Who's going to help us send a giant "we love you!!" bouquet to the "Glee" music team?? Because we HAVE to thank them profusely for conjoining our two favorite boys-themed records. For their upcoming "Britney 2.0" episode, the Gleeks have produced a slick mashup of Britney Spears' "Boys" and Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend." On a personal note, Britney's "Boys" is still flying high on my top-five favorite Britney songs of all time list (both the original and the "Co-ed Remix"), so shouts to "Glee" for bringing the song back and pairing it with "Boyfriend." In other words, welcome to the only song on my new gym mix! Forever.

At the top of the mashup, "Glee" character Artie slays Britney's seductive speak-talky "Boys" verse, and then somehow effortlessly transitions into the chorus of Justin's "Boyfriend." Britney's "Can't live with them, can't live without them" line miraculously blends into Justin's "Yeahhhh gurl," and at some points, you're honestly not sure if you're sitting in your room listening to music, or have been transported to a magical land where the best pop songs ever literally BECOME EACH OTHER. Either way, we never wanna leave!
