- 'Twilight' Star's Nude Photo Scandal Rare For Young Cast
Kiowa Gordon's leaked pics might seem standard for young Hollywood, but 'Twilight' Tuesday notes that the cast has largely avoided scandal.
By Kara Warner
Kiowa Gordon
Photo: Jason LaVeris/ Getty ImagesWith all the glitz and glamour associated with being a young celebrity in Hollywood, it's hard to imagine there are any cons to fame and fortune. It's safe to say that one of the more precarious aspects of being universally recognized is the fact that any time a celebrity does anything worth a tweet, photograph or snarky comment, they have the potential to generate many a headline.
The amount of news coverage a star commands depends, of course, on the level of public interest, for which the minute details in the lives of Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian and the "Twilight" cast are of great importance.
A lot of the newer stars find out about their headline-generating factor the hard way, as has been the case with Kiowa Gordon and a batch of private photos that were posted to a pornographic website. Never mind the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the incident; by all appearances, Gordon is doing his best to resolve the matter and move on. The "nude photos discovered" headline is so prevalent in pop culture that it's almost expected.
Speaking of expectations, because there are so many ways in which a young celeb might be photographed doing something naughty — they're teenagers, for cryin' out loud! — I think we can all take a moment to appreciate the fact that on the whole, the entire "Twilight" cast has done an excellent job in upholding the ideals associated with their role-model statues. There have been a few leaked photos here and there but no evidence of any kind of truly inappropriate behavior that is often associated with young stars. It really is an amazing feat when you think about how many young actors we're talking about and how scrutinized they are. When I think about some of the dumb things I did in my teens, I thank my lucky stars that Facebook and Twitter were not around. I can't even begin to think about how difficult it would be to navigate as a young celebrity.
So as much as we love to obsess over our favorite stars, let's try to not sweat the small stuff and appreciate them for being worthy of our continued admiration.
Why do you think the "Twilight" cast has largely avoided the typical pitfalls of young fame? Let us know in the comments or tweet me @karawarner!
Переслать - 'Dark Knight Rises' Vs. 'Avengers': The Dark Vs. The Light
Batman might be the hero we deserve, but is he still the one we want? We discuss in The Weekly Rising.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
Christine Bale in "The Dark Knight Rises"
Photo: Jared Wickerham/ Getty ImagesIf there wasn't enough of a reason for people to start talking "The Avengers" vs. "The Dark Knight Rises" before, today's news all but guaranteed the comparison. An exhibitor relations website confirmed that the second and final full trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises" will play before Marvel's universal class reunion starting May 4.
Will the "Dark Knight Rises" trailer outshine "The Avengers"? Which film will gross more at the box office? Can either touch the records set by "The Dark Knight"? These are questions that were always going to be asked because of how closely the two films will be released.
In fact, the conversation officially began last week when Fandango published the results of their latest poll, where readers voted for which summer movie interested them the most. Both male and female voters chose "The Avengers" over "The Dark Knight Rises" by large margins. Then, early track for "The Avengers" put its opening weekend box-office figures north of the holy $150 million mark, potentially placing it in the realm of "The Hunger Games," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" and, perhaps most importantly, 2008's "The Dark Knight."
With "The Avengers" tracking so well and the virtually no movement from the "Dark Knight Rises" camp in the last few months, many have begun to call the game in favor of Marvel and Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Devin Faraci over at Badass Digest wrote a fascinating editorial in the wake of the poll results suggesting that perhaps the bright colors, lighter attitude and we-shall-overcome spirit of Iron Man, Captain America and the Hulk are more appealing to a country that as seen too much of the gritty reality Christopher Nolan's Batman has to offer.
And Faraci certainly makes a good point. Two movies in, Nolan's Batman series has a tone and aesthetic consistent enough to leave little doubt about what "The Dark Knight Rises" will look like. The trailers have confirmed as much. The subject matter this time around, however, shifts from the chaotic randomness of post-9/11 America in "The Dark Knight" to an apparently 99 percent-inspired storyline. A lot of the power of this Batman trilogy has always been its ability to feel current and meaningful, while actually being about a billionaire dressing up in a cape.
But is that what the people want anymore? Part of the problem with that question is that it places too much box-office significance on literary terms like theme and allegory, not that they should be ignored. In theory, each film will provide a basic requirement of timely cinema. "The Dark Knight Rises" may deal more directly with the economic stresses of today, but will ultimately end with a hopeful message. "The Avengers" takes a different approach, fulfilling escapist desires and placing the hope further into the foreground. The overall more optimistic views of "The Avengers" makes it more accessible to a wider audience and therefore more of their money, but let's not forget that Marvel's film offers a concept that feels newer than "The Dark Knight Rises."
The power of "the new" may be what ultimately helps "The Avengers" top "The Dark Knight Rises." We've seen Nolan hold up a Batman-colored lens to society, while Christian Bale growls and we love it. We've never seen a lot of superheroes from different movies fight together on screen. "The Avengers" formula makes it feel much less like a sequel and more like — excuse the phrase — a motion picture event.
When it really comes down to it, does it matter which movie sells more tickets? Both "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Avengers" are going to make a crap load of money; that's never been a question. But with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" taking a page out of Nolan's gritty book, could any shortcomings on the part of "The Dark Knight Rises" prematurely doom Superman?
With no answers for now, let's just feel lucky that two enormous and ambitious superhero flicks are hitting theaters in the same summer with two exciting filmmakers at the helm.

'Hunger Games' star may land a lead role in the film adaptation of Jeannette Walls' best-selling memoir.
By Fallon Prinzivalli
Jennifer Lawrence
Photo: Getty ImagesWith the success of "The Hunger Games," it's no surprise Jennifer Lawrence is a sought-after leading lady. With three films hitting theaters this fall — including "House at the End of the Street" and "The Silver Linings Playbook" — she has a busy schedule, but it looks like Lawrence might add another project to her repertoire.
Deadline Hollywood reports that Lionsgate's production president, Erik Feig, has acquired the rights to gossip columnist Jeanette Walls' best-seller "The Glass Castle: A Memoir." Gil Netter ("The Blind Side") is set to produce and Marti Noxon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "I Am Number Four") is attached to pen the script.
Walls' book follows her nomadic childhood as she grew up moving around the Southwest desert with her parents and three siblings. When he was sober, her father Rex nurtured his children's imagination and taught them to embrace life. Her mother Rose Mary was an artist who would rather paint and write than be responsible for her family. When their money was finally gone, they returned to West Virginia where her father drank and stole and Walls and her siblings were forced to support each other. While her tale seems grim, she paints her parents in a loving light because, despite her family's flaws, they played a huge role in her success. Upon its release in 2005, the book spent more than 250 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers list, which was a first for any memoir.
The story is a departure from the male-centered movies Lionsgate usually releases. They're known for films such as "Warrior," "The Lincoln Lawyer," "Abduction" and "Conan the Barbarian." But perhaps with the overwhelming success of "Hunger Games" and its strong heroine, the company will focus on more female-lead narratives.

Lindsay Lohan and Elizabeth Taylor
Photo: Getty ImagesAfter a few months of will-she-or-won't-she debate as to whether Lindsay Lohan would actually appear in a made-for-TV biopic about Elizabeth Taylor, we finally have confirmation that she will officially take on the role of the Hollywood icon in the Lifetime movie "Liz and Dick."
According to the network's official announcement obtained by Deadline, the story will revolve around the torrid and headline-grabbing romance between the blue-eyed beauty and Hollywood leading man Richard Burton. The two megastars were the original Brangelina, and their tempestuous relationship was the most infamous celebrity love affair of its day.
"I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor," Lohan said in the statement. "She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role."
This isn't the first time Lohan has portrayed a legend. She's done a few Hollywood pinup-inspired photos, including her Marilyn Monroe-esque photo shoot for Playboy, which garnered record sales when she graced the cover.
"We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor," Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming for Lifetime Networks, said in a statement. "She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon."
Principal photography on the movie will begin in early June in Los Angeles.

Box-office expert explains just how significant the flick's $33 million debut really is.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
Meagan Good in "Think Like a Man"
Photo: Screen Gems ProductionsThe success of "Think Like a Man" shouldn't surprise anyone. For starters, it's based on a best-selling self-help book by Steve Harvey, and many box-office experts had predicted that it would finally be the movie to knock "The Hunger Games" out of its #1 spot.
But it was unclear just how big "Think Like a Man" would be. The film grossed $33 million over the weekend and according to Box Office Mojo's weekend wrap-up, "the movie had an 'A' CinemaScore, which went up to an 'A+' among men and those under the age of 25."
As Vulture put it, "It's hard to overstate the enormity of the 'TLAM' victory this past weekend." $33 million may not sound like a lot when compared to the opening weeks of "The Hunger Games" and its box-office tear, but there are two things to consider when looking at that number: competition and screens.
"Think Like a Man" had two worthy opponents to defeat on its way to box-office glory. First, there was the reigning champion, "The Hunger Games." Even in its fifth week, the YA adaptation still showed signs of life, crossing the $350 million mark this weekend. Then, there was "The Lucky One,' which boasted the Nicholas Sparks brand name and an adult role from teen heartthrob Zac Efron. On paper, these two could have proved too much for the rom-com, especially when you consider the second factor.
The large haul for "Think Like a Man" is so much more impressive when you compare the number of screens each film played on. "The Hunger Games," even in its fifth weekend, was still playing on 3,752 screens, almost twice as many as "Think Like a Man," and yet the latter did more than two times the business. Just as telling, "The Lucky One" debuted on 1,000 more screens than "Think Like a Man," yet made more than $10 million less.
BoxOffice.com editor Phil Contrino said that the success was due in large part to the community the film was aimed at. "There aren't many films that are made specifically for African-American audiences, and when it a good one comes out, that community gets behind it in a big way," he said.

Переслать - 'Hunger Games' Experts Weigh In On 'Catching Fire' Director Francis Lawrence
'I've heard amazing things about him, so it's gonna be a fun ride,' film's co-star Josh Hutcherson says of series' new director.
By Fallon Prinzivalli
Francis Lawrence
Photo: Ian Gavan/ Getty Images"Hunger Games" fans are wiping away their goodbye-Gary-Ross tears and getting ready to welcome Francis Lawrence into the world of Panem. If he accepts Lionsgate's offer, the "I Am Legend" director will take over the successful franchise's sequel, "Catching Fire." We spoke to a few "Hunger Games" fansite experts to gauge their thoughts on the director. They agree he was a good choice to helm the film and are putting their faith in Lionsgate's decision.
Hunger Games Examiner Sara Gundell was "really excited" by the news of Lionsgate's offer. She felt that he was the best option of all the rumored directors. "I had been really disappointed when Gary Ross left," she said. "And knowing that Francis Lawrence was going to take over, it got me excited again about the franchise. I think he's going to do really amazing things. And I think of all of the other directors that Lionsgate was considering, or that we know they were considering, he brought kind of everything to the table in my opinion."
As a fan of the previous films he's directed, Arianna Ruiz from Down With the Capitol believes Lawrence can give fans the "Catching Fire" they're greatly anticipating. "I loved 'I Am Legend.' I loved 'Water for Elephants,' especially. So, when I found out that he was chosen to direct 'Catching Fire,' I'm like, he can totally bring a movie that the fans want to see," she said.
Amanda Belcher from The Hob tells us she's trusting Lionsgate's decision. "I'm hoping that Lionsgate chose him because they really thought that he could do the 'Catching Fire' that fans really want to see and that we deserve," she said. "I'm hoping that he can really come through and becomes a fan of the material, and take what screenplay is there and work with Suzanne [Collins] and [producer] Nina [Jacobson] and really pull this together for us."
Meanwhile, "Hunger Games" co-star Josh Hutcherson told The Hollywood Reporter that he's "excited" to meet Lawrence. "I've heard amazing things about him, so it's gonna be a fun ride," he said.
If Peeta Mellark is eager to see Lawrence's vision for the film, count us in!
"Catching Fire" is slated to hit theaters on November 22, 2013.

'Knight' will also have the most IMAX footage of any Hollywood movie.
By Fallon Prinzivalli
Tom Hardy as Bane in "Dark Knight Rises"
Photo: Warner Bros/EWMarvel and DC Comics fans are in for quite a treat. Not only will "Marvel's The Avengers" finally release in theaters on May 4, but it was confirmed over the weekend that DC Comics' "The Dark Knight Rises" third trailer will debut when Earth's mightiest heroes ban together.
A Warner Bros. executive told Deadline Hollywood, "We see this placement as a good strategic decision. We always want our trailers to be seen with films that people want to see — and a lot of people will be going to 'The Avengers'!"
Warner Bros.' idea of placing a DC Comics trailer in front of a Marvel film isn't new. In 2008, a third trailer for "The Dark Knight" played before "Iron Man." It would seem a little strange since Marvel and DC are rivals, but it's all a marketing strategy. "It will provide the best potential exposure for 'The Dark Knight Rises,' " the studio exec said. "It's a big positive for everyone!"
We know comic fans are certainly not complaining. And that's not all they have to look forward to when it comes to Christopher Nolan's final Batman flick. The Wall Street Journal also reported that "The Dark Knight Rises" will contain the most IMAX footage ever featured in a Hollywood film. "The Dark Knight" had 40 minutes of IMAX footage when it released in 2008, but the 2012 follow-up will have more than an hour's worth. It may seem like IMAX is nothing to get excited over, with "The Avengers," "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "Prometheus" all slated to hit IMAX screens this summer as well. The difference is Nolan's film was shot with an actual IMAX camera, whereas the others are simply being converted by IMAX's technology.
The 90-pound, incredibly noisy IMAX camera has proved to be difficult for some directors, but it didn't faze Nolan. "There was a huge irony that we were told it would be too difficult to shoot a Hollywood movie on IMAX when we had this gigantic camera department, grips, electric, hundreds of people working for us," the director told WSJ. "These were cameras that had been to the top of Mount Everest, to the bottom of the ocean and into outer space, but people thought we couldn't make a feature film. It was absurd."
Audiences can see the third trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises" during the "Avengers" previews on May 4, before the Batman epic releases on July 18, 2012.

'I'd hope for them to live happily ever after, but it's 'Game of Thrones,' right?' Richard Madden says of Robb Stark's romantic interest, Talisa.
By Kara Warner
Richard Madden in "Game of Thrones"
Photo: HBOAnother week, another gripping, wholly enjoyable episode of HBO's hit "Game of Thrones." Forgetting for a moment the frustrating continued existence of one Joffrey Baratheon and all the rather gruesome scenes in Sunday's episode entitled "Garden of Bones," let's take a moment to appreciate one easy-to-watch scene: the meet-cute between would-be King Robb Stark and feisty nurse Talisa (Oona Chaplin).
In the midst of all the blood, battles and complicated politics, might there be room for a real romance between two characters? MTV News was lucky enough to sit down with Robb Stark himself, Richard Madden, to get the scoop on this intriguing new story line.
"Robb's in a place where it's the first time he's met a woman, it's the first time he's had his head turned. It's the first time he's been in this position as this boy-king and the first time someone doesn't bow down to him, doesn't treat him like a king, doesn't cater to all that," Madden explained of his character's interest in Talisa. "She asks him real questions, she challenges everything and makes him ask questions of himself, he's kind of blown away by that, this kind of light in the darkness. He's surrounded by all these men and by all this violence and hate and blood, and he's got this woman there who kind of looks him in the eye and talks to him in a way he's not used to and he can't help but be intrigued by that. I think in the beginning he doesn't even know his head's been turned until we're right into it."
So now we know there will at least be major head-turning, but no telling how long that will last in the twisted and dangerous world of "Thrones." When asked for his thoughts on Robb and Talisa's future as a couple, the Scot wasn't at liberty to divulge gritty details, but did mention a hope for happily ever after, however unlikely that may be.
"I'd hope for them to live happily ever after, but it's 'Game of Thrones,' right? That doesn't really happen often with anyone," Madden said with a smile.
"We're going to see a lot of changes with Robb's character this year and this woman is the first big influence that takes him away from following his head. Usually his heart and his head are on the same page when it comes to decision-making and this woman takes him in a different direction and influences over the decisions that he makes and sets things on a different course with his mother as well. That's a huge kind of fracture between them," he continued. "So I'm keen to see how that plays out onscreen."

Zac Efron's 'The Lucky One' also beat out 'Games' over the weekend.
By Ryan J. Downey
Meagan Good and Romany Malco in "Think Like a Man"
Photo: Screen Gems ProductionsIn the end, it wasn't any sort of dastardly villain who conquered the heroes of "The Hunger Games." No, the four-week box-office reign of the adaptation of the popular YA novel was ended by none other than Steve Harvey and Zac Efron, whose respective new movies performed quite impressively over the weekend.
"Think Like a Man" was #1 with a $33 million opening, boasting a higher per-screen average than any other movie with a nationwide release this year, save for "Games" and "Dr. Seuss the Lorax." With a story based on the lessons given in comedian Steve Harvey's self-help tome "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," the film gave Screen Gems their second-best opening (behind "The Vow") and third #1 in 2012 so far.
Screen Gems only spent a reported $13 million making "Think Like a Man." Many industry watchers predicted an opening at least $10 million lower, more in line with the intake of the #2 movie at the box office this week, "The Lucky One." The Zac Efron-led tearjerker opened with $22.8 million. That's much higher than Efron's "Charlie St. Cloud" ($12.4 million) though somewhat less than "17 Again" ($23.7 million). It's the second-biggest opening for a movie based on a Nicholas Sparks book, behind "Dear John" ($30.5 million). Box Office Mojo noted that "The Lucky One" actually sold more tickets than "The Notebook" too, though it earned less actual cash.
"The Lucky One" was pretty unlucky with critics, however. Richard Roeper called it "well-acted schmaltz with some gaping plot holes." Eric D. Snider described "The Lucky One" as "exactly the kind of sappy hogwash that Efron's detractors think is the only thing he's capable of doing." The movie did receive a B+ CinemaScore from moviegoers who saw it, although 56 percent of them admitted that Efron was the main reason they went to see the film, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"The Hunger Games" was #3 with $14.5 million for a five-week total of $356.9 million. The first in a planned trilogy, "Games" now sits at #19 on the list of all-time box-office grosses, right between "Jurassic Park" ($357 million) and the third "Transformers" movie, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" ($352.3 million). "The Hunger Games" has made more than any "Twilight" movie and is ahead of every "Harry Potter" flick except "Deathly Hallows, Part 2," which made $381 million.
"Games" did manage to hold off one of the weekend's new films, "Chimpanzee," though the Disneynature film still managed the third-highest opening for a documentary ever. "Chimpanzee" was #4 with $10.2 million, placing it behind docs "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" ($29.5 million) and "Fahrenheit 9/11" ($23.9 million). "Chimpanzee" had a 77 percent "fresh" score on film review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. "Walt Disney himself couldn't have scripted 'Chimpanzee' any better," wrote Newsday's Rafer Guzman. The Washington Post's Michael O'Sullivan wrote, "one wonders whether more than a few viewers won't want to take home a baby chimp."
The Farrelly brothers' take on "The Three Stooges" rounded out the top five with $9.2 million during its second weekend, bringing the comedy's total to $29.4 million.
"Titanic 3-D" continued to top the international box office, bringing its overseas total to $225.7 million. "Battleship" has made $129.6 million abroad.
Next weekend's new films include "The Raven," starring John Cusack as a fictionalized version of Edgar Allan Poe; Jason Statham action flick "Safe"; R-rated comedy "The Five-Year Engagement," from the team behind "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"; and animated kids' movie "Pirates! Band of Misfits."

Things get weird on the latest episode, and MTV's 'Watching the Thrones' is ready to dive into it head-on.
By Josh Wigler
Shadow Baby on "Game of Thrones"
Photo: HBOIn case you didn't realize it before, Sunday night's episode of "Game of Thrones" should have made it quite clear: Westeros can be very, very weird.
Think about all the various forms of magic cropping up all over the Seven Kingdoms: the crippled Brandon Stark is able to walk again by way of his wolf dreams. North of the Wall, humanoid monsters with voices like crackling ice exist, with the ability to raise their victims from the dead. And across the Narrow Sea, the first dragons to be born in decades are beginning to grow under the love and care of exiled princess Daenerys Targaryen.
And now, on top of all of that, we have ... a shadow baby?!
Needless to say, episode four of the fantasy series' second season, "Garden of Bones," was a strange one. Keep reading for our take on the latest trip to Westeros, and watch the video below for more from our weekly "Watching the Thrones" roundup!
Hungry Like the Wolf
Robb Stark is a hugely important part of "A Clash of Kings," the novel upon which season two is based. But his physical presence leaves something to be desired — which is to say, he's rarely seen in the book, mostly talked about. That's not the case on "Game of Thrones." Here, Robb is fully present, as seen in the opening moments of "Garden of Bones." Robb's direwolf, Grey Wind, grows stronger with every battle, and Robb's skills as a tactician and leader of men are improving at the same pace. This latest episode also pulled the curtain back on something not seen in the books, but hugely important to Robb's character: a little trace of love. But that nurse on the battlefield does not go by the name Jeyne Westerling as she does in the books; indeed, as she presents herself, she's hardly a noble-born woman at all. Is it just an alias for now, a parlor trick that Jeyne is playing? Or has "Thrones" altered Robb's love interest in a seriously significant way?The Greatest City in the World
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Qarth! At long last, Dany and her khalasar have reached civilization. And if the people of Qarth are to be believed, Dany has arrived at the greatest city in the world. If you're a bit skeptical of that claim, that's more than fair. But even if Qarth as a city doesn't necessarily live up to the hype (and that itself is up for debate), there are things that happen in Qarth that rank high on the list of all-time greatest "Thrones" moments. Needless to say, Dany has some interesting times ahead of her.The Ghost of Harrenhal
Poor Arya Stark. It's just not getting any better for the little girl forced to live as a little boy. Arya, Gendry and Hot Pie found themselves at the mercy of the Tickler and the Mountain in this week's episode, watching the pair interrogate their prisoners to death with a disturbingly clever combination of a rat, a bucket and a torch. Not pretty stuff. Even the arrival of Tywin Lannister is hardly a mercy; he's more civilized than their initial captors, sure, but he's a Lannister all the same. On the bright side, now Arya has a few more names to add to her people-to-kill list alongside Queen Regent Cersei and her wicked son Joffrey.Draining the Poison
Speaking of Joffrey, he's just getting worse and worse with each episode, if you can believe it. From beheading Ned Stark to threatening Sansa's life with a crossbow held at point-blank range, Joffrey's wicked ways seem to know no bounds. And that's not even the worst of it: The way he made the two prostitutes purchased for him by Tyrion torture each other was absolutely sickening to watch. Joffrey is easily one of the most loathsome characters in all of "Ice and Fire" lore, if not the most loathsome — and believe it or not, he's even more unlikable on the show. Brutal, brutal, brutal.Shadow Baby!
While the latest episode of "Thrones" ended the show's three-week kid-killing streak, it made up for the combo-breaker by having us witness the priestess Melisandre give birth to a shadow baby. A shadow baby. Clearly, it's a bit more complicated than that, but it's strange and horrific to behold all the same. If you ever doubted that Melisandre has magic at her disposal, doubt her no longer. Perhaps she hasn't backed the right horse in the race for the Iron Throne, but she definitely has formidable power on her side, as Davos can attest to firsthand. As for where that shadow baby's headed next? Readers of the books certainly know — and if you haven't read the books, well, keep the Kleenex on hand. You're going to need it.Tell us what you thought of the latest "Thrones" in the comments section!
