- Gina Carano Ready To Get Her 'Feet Wet' In 'Fast & Furious 6'
'I'm going to go from the 'Haywire' crew to the 'Fast 6' crew, so I'm going to get a very broad range of knowledge,' she tells MTV News.

Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty ImagesAction fans rejoiced earlier this week when The Hollywood Reporter announced that MMA fighter-turned-actor Gina Carano was in talks to join the sixth "Fast & Furious" movie. It seemed like an inspired choice for the series that saw new life after "Fast Five" impressed last year.
MTV News caught up with the breakout star while she was promoting the Blu-ray release of "Haywire," and she spoke excitedly about the prospects of joining the action series.
"We got a call about two weeks ago to do 'The Fast and the Furious 6,' " Carano said. "We're in negotiations for that, so if that goes through, that will be a really cool opportunity for me to get my feet wet on another big-budget film and be around all these different types of actors."
Carano seemed pleased at the idea of appealing to different bases of fans within the action genre, moving from the art-house appeal of "Haywire" to the mainstream explosions of "Fast & Furious."
"I'm going to go from the 'Haywire' crew to the 'Fast 6' crew, so I'm going to get a very broad range of knowledge as far as people go," she said. "It's like two different high school groups. You've got the very artistic, and then you've got the action group of athletes, like hard-core. Very different personalities there."
Carano is in negotiations to play a member of Dwayne Johnson's team in the upcoming sequel directed by "Fast Five" helmer Justin Lin. As for whether Carano has begun sizing up her soon-to-be castmates, she said that's not something she has to think about. "No, I'm pretty secure. I don't need to size anybody up. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about giving a good performance and understanding my character. That's what I'll focus on."
The actress wouldn't say for sure how close she was to signing on, but remained optimistic about her prospects. "It will be really good for me, and I'm completely open to it," Carano said. "If negotiations go good, we'll probably start filming that."

It's more than a month until first Kristen Stewart film is released, but David Koepp is reportedly in talks to pen a sequel script.

Photo: Universal StudiosDespite the fact that we're still a little more than a month away from the release of "Snow White and the Huntsman," there are already rumblings of a sequel.
According to Deadline, Universal has apparently already begun talking to screenwriter David Koepp about writing a sequel to the film, which is one of this summer's most highly anticipated movies. Koepp certainly has enough credibility in drafting scripts for big blockbusters: He has screenplay credits on "Jurassic Park," "Mission: Impossible," "Spider-Man," "War of the Worlds" and "Men in Black III."
Naturally, we don't know what happens to the characters over the course of the film, but star Kristen Stewart has already expressed interest in reprising her role as the titular Snow White.
"To be totally candid and honest with you, when I first signed on to this thing, the idea of doing another franchise was like, 'Wow, [we'll] cross that bridge when it comes.' It was something so far outside my realm of thinking," she told MTV News when asked if she'd be game for more action and adventure as the fairest one of all. "I was so focused on the first one, and I thought, 'Maybe, maybe,' but I've got stars in my eyes. I'm literally over the moon about what I'm doing right now," she said of her work on "Huntsman." "Yes, I would love to [do more 'Snow White' films]."
"Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders is reportedly Universal's choice to helm the sequel if it happens, and judging from his positive comments about working with Stewart, it seems likely the pair could team up again.
"Kristen is a very driven, visceral, intuitive actress. From a director's point of view, it's great to get into her headspace," Sanders said. "We did a lot of work together on the script and character, and she really helped inform me how that character was feeling, which really helped my process getting the character onscreen. Kristen was doing a lot of her stunt work, she was riding horses, she was jumping from high precipices into freezing cold water, she was fighting dwarves — she's gung-ho."

The dynamic duo of Debbie (Leslie Mann) and Pete (Paul Rudd) had a few key scenes in the film, including Debbie taking Alison (Katherine Heigl) to the club where she meets Seth Rogen's character.
Now Judd Apatow aims to brings us back into the lives of the couple as Debbie celebrates her 40th birthday in "This Is 40." Continually lying about her age as she refuses to accept it, Debbie wonders if she's living the best life possible and decides she and Pete need to make some changes.
"I've made a list," she tells her husband in a scene from the trailer, which was released on Friday (April 27). "It's the 'do-better' list. We're 40 years old, if we don't do it now, when are we going to do it?"

Counting the Rings
At the gynecologist's office, the nurses try to figure out if Debbie was born in 1972, '74 or '75 since her paperwork lists a range of dates of birth. When Debbie finally blurts out, "I lie about my age, OK? OK?" her gynecologist responds, "I know how old you are. I'm counting the rings." And with that line, we know typical Apatow humor will be on display in this flick. After that exchange, Debbie decides it's time for a change and makes a list of the top three things she and her husband need to focus on now that they're in their 40s: exercise, the kids' education and being patient.Exercise Every Day
In one scene, Debbie works with a personal trainer, which allows the filmmakers to bring back Jason Segel's "Knocked Up" character, also named Jason. "I can turn your body into a boner machine," he tells Debbie. When she points out that every woman gives him a boner, he replies, "Don't sell yourself short," before adding in a whisper, "Barb doesn't give me a boner." Looks like Jason's crush on Alison's sister never went away.Get Involved in School
As Pete confronts a mother whose son is picking on his daughter, "Bridesmaids" star Melissa McCarthy makes a cameo as the confrontational mommy. She tells Pete to get his daughter's meds right and Pete calls her son an animal. When Pete gives her shoulder a little shove, she screams, "You touched my nipple!" When he tells her he merely touched her below her shoulder, she replies, "I have very high nipples!" How Rudd kept from breaking into laughter during that scene is beyond us.More Patience With the Kids
Another key scene opens with Pete and Debbie's daughters pulling each other's hair as they fight in the back seat of the car. It then cuts to them at the dinner table, where Debbie announces they're cutting back on the girls' gadget use so they'll spend more time outside. She suggests instead that they build a fort, to which the exasperated eldest daughter exclaims, "And do what in the fort?" When Debbie says, "You don't need technology," the youngest daughter holds an iPhone up to her mouth and says, "No technology," as a monkey on the screen mimics her words.Payback Time
The final scene shows Pete spread-eagle on a bed, holding a mirror up to his crotch trying to look at ... something. (We honestly don't want to know what.) When he asks Debbie to take a look, she asks if they can just keep a small shred of mystery in their relationship. Pete replies, "I saw you have babies — payback time." At least being in your 40s isn't boring."This Is 40" is set to hit theaters Christmas 2012.

Photo: Twentieth Century FoxOne thing's for sure when the next "Die Hard" flick hits theaters: Aging action stud John McClane is no worse for the wear and just as ready to rumble as he was back in 1988, when the first film hit theaters.
With Bruce Willis back for the franchise's fifth film, "A Good Day to Die Hard," producer Tom Rothman has made it clear that the butt-kicking star is just as badass as ever.
"[We've] started this week, just started. It's all set in Russia," he told MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. "Well there's bookend scenes in New York, but it's John McClane, goes to Russia and I think the technical term ... is f---s everything up. And the fun part about it, though, is there's a great moment where he says 'It's good a day as any to die.' "
Sure, McClane is throwing about his signature swag in the film, but Rothman assures fans that the movie also has a lot of heart, courtesy of the relationship between McClane and his son, Jack (played by Jai Courtney).
"He thinks his kid is a screw-up," he explained. "But, in fact, it's the opposite. The kid is more like the father than the father thinks. So it's very, like all the best of the classic 'Die Hards,' very emotionally driven and very kick-ass."
Director John Moore of "Max Payne" and the "Omen" remake is set to helm "Die Hard 5" with Skip Woods penning the script. "A Good Day to Die Hard" is a follow-up to 2007's "Live Free or Die Hard."

New featurette is dedicated to late star of original soap, Jonathan Frid.

Photo: Warner BrosWith just two weeks left until the big release of "Dark Shadows," Warner Bros. is stoking the coals of excitement with a new featurette that brings not only behind-the-scenes interviews and footage, but offers up an important new plot detail from the film.
"The legend of the vampire has been told for centuries, capturing the dark shadows of our imagination and inspiring filmmakers and actors to breathe new life into the undead," a voice-over reminds us at the top of the clip. "But there's never been a vampire like Barnabas Collins."
Depp said the idea to do the film came naturally to him and Burton, who have worked together on eight films. "I'd always been sort of attracted to horror films and things like that, even as a very young kid," Depp explains. "I said, 'Tim, we should do a vampire movie together.' "
And when Johnny Depp and Tim Burton decide to do something, it has a way of getting done.
A large part of the featurette focuses on the history of vampires in movies and reminds us that one of cinema's great vampires, Christopher Lee, is featured in "Shadows."
"One of my favorite moments I've ever been able to experience in a film was I got to hypnotize Dracula; I got to hypnotize Christopher Lee," Depp says. "He was, you know, the great Dracula."
To get into character as Barnabas Collins, Depp didn't stray far from the source material. "For Barnabas, everywhere I searched character-wise, I kept coming back to Jonathan Frid," the actor explains. "He really did something beautiful with that character on the 'Dark Shadows' series back in the '60s and early '70s."
Frid, who cameos in the film and is shown arriving at a party at Collinwood in the featurette, died earlier this month in his native Canada. The clip closes with an "In Memoriam" dedication to the classically trained actor, who maintained a close relationship with the show's fans by appearing at "Shadows" conventions and readings as recently as 2011, before his health began to decline.
The clip features some great new scenes from the film, including a fun bit where Depp's Barnabas seeks advice from Chloe Moretz's Carolyn Stoddard on "the art of courting a woman of this time," but importantly introduces a major plot twist that we wondered (all the way back in October!) whether Burton would include in his film: Barnabas' attempt to de-fang himself with the help of Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter) and become mortal again to pursue a romantic relationship with Bella Heathcote's Victoria Winters.
"If a man can become a monster, then a monster can become a man," Barnabas says in a voice-over while Dr. Hoffman surveys large blood-filled beakers and Depp sits with IV lines running from him. It's a story line carried over directly from both the original soap and its short-lived '90s remake. (Indeed, this particular story line was the focus of NBC's revival starring Ben Cross and Joanna Going.)
"By tapping into vampires, witches, ghosts, the reason they're powerful is because we all kind of experience those feelings on some level," Burton says of the film. "It's something that remains in our popular culture because it's strangely part of our everyday lives."

The last time we checked in with Stallone about the future of his famed Vietnam vet John Rambo, it seemed as though there might not be any more story to tell and that the hero needed "to stop running" and take a rest.
Thanks to our recent run-in with the main man at CinemaCon, it seems as if Rambo's rest has come to an end and we might see him rise again.
"There's a volcanic eruption [brewing]. The magma of Rambo is coming to the surface," Stallone said when asked about his thoughts on bringing the character back to the big screen.
So is there another story to tell?
"I know there is," he said definitively. "It's one thing where you lay down the final culmination of your life where you can articulate it, but also act on it where he realizes what his destiny really is," Stallone said, speaking for the character and how he might take a moment to reflect on his life and realize his work isn't finished. "It's not to be a farmer, it's not to be obscure; it's to go out in a blaze of glory in a heroic fashion. But is he really doing it for himself or is he doing it because that's just his id? That's who he is.
"I like the whole Mexican situation, what's going on down there," Stallone continued, hinting at the film's possible setting and building the plot around the real-life conflict in Mexico. "So I'm working on a formula for it right now."

Comic-book writer talks to MTV News about what to expect in season three, which begins filming next week.

Not only is the comic book writer and executive producer behind the flesh-craving juggernaut known as "The Walking Dead" currently hard at work on the AMC series' upcoming third season — "We begin filming next week," Kirkman told MTV News during a recent interview — he's also keeping his nose buried in the paneled page, cooking up brand new highs and lows for longtime readers of his flagship titles.
In the pages of Kirkman's superhero epic "Invincible," the writer has put lead character Mark Grayson through the wringer recently. "He's been a bit under the weather, slightly near death," Kirkman cracked during our chat. Replacing him in the yellow-and-blue tights for the time being is Bulletproof, an "Invincible" mainstay who always harbored a secret desire to wear the Invincible uniform. It's all part of the build-up toward the milestone issue #100, launching in January 2013.
"That's actually the 10-year anniversary of the first issue shipping. We totally shipped some issues late to make sure the timing worked out," he joked. "We know what we're doing here!"
Staying in the "Invincible" universe, Kirkman's bringing the superhero team at the center of "Guarding the Globe" back for an all-new ongoing series from writer Phil Hester ("Firebreather") and illustrator Todd Nauck ("Young Justice"), with the Bulletproof-Invincible tagging along for the ride.
"He'll be a big part of that series," Kirkman revealed, adding that "Guarding the Globe" was created out of a desire to explore the many characters that "Invincible" doesn't have room to focus on in depth. "Corey Walker, Ryan Ottley and I have created a bunch of characters for Invincible, just something that we'd like to do. After we'd done 100 issues, we figured if we gave everyone a page, we'd still only see them every four or five issues. There are just so many characters we never get around to showing or doing anything interesting with. It makes sense to have this second book that can focus on Brit, Black Samson and some of the newer cast like Yeti and Kaboomerang, a favorite of mine."
Of course, Kirkman's also been working on a little thing you may have heard about: "The Walking Dead." Like "Invincible," the "Walking Dead" comic book series is rapidly approaching its 100th issue. The milestone event will hit comic shops this July, right in time for Comic-Con, and smack dab in the middle of the writer's "Something to Fear" story line.
"They basically discovered this larger community that's part of a network," Kirkman said of what's been happening in recent issues of "Walking Dead." "To be a part of this network and to share resources, they have to become involved in this sort of barter system, where everybody contributes where they can to get something in return. Rick realizes that the only thing he can contribute is protection and, essentially, being a badass — because everyone in his group is a bunch of badasses. This other group is beholden to this very violent group of people who basically rule through intimidation. Rick says, 'I'll take care of this group for you if you put us into your bartering network, and give us food.' Now Rick has to go back to his allies and sell them on it. He's gone out on a limb and volunteered them for something very dangerous."
Very dangerous indeed, if the recently revealed "Walking Dead" #100 cover is any indication. The illustration depicts the most prominent deceased characters from "Walking Dead" lore strewn about a virtually endless pile of bodies — needless to say, don't go seeking out the cover if you're afraid of "Walking Dead" TV spoilers. Given the nature of the upcoming arc, it's looking like even more bodies will join that pile by the time issue #101 hits shelves.
"Maybe slightly before #101," he teased. "We'll see."
Kirkman's work in comics goes far beyond "Invincible," "Guarding the Globe" and "Walking Dead." His latest book, is currently developing for television (once again through AMC). At the moment, however, much of the writer's time is devoted to "Walking Dead" season three, which begins production next week and hits airwaves next fall. Season two cleaned house on several fan-favorite characters including Shane and Dale, leaving the door wide open for some new memorable faces, such as the despicable Governor played by British actor David Morrissey.
But easily the most anticipated newcomer of the bunch is Michonne, the sword-wielding zombie killer introduced in the season-two finale. Danai Gurira plays the role in season three, and Kirkman said she has a lot of hard work ahead of her.
"Danai is an absolutely fantastic actress," he said. "That role is going to be absolutely grueling. It'll put her through her paces. She'll have to do a lot of sword work. I can't say a lot about what she's going to do, but everyone who has read the comic knows Michonne is a badass. We'll see a lot of that in the show as well. Danai has really been diving into that head first with lots of sword training. We begin filming next week, so we'll be working with her a lot, and we're excited to have her on board."

Photo: LionsgateNo one supported Gary Ross more than "Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson, who called Ross "my guy" right before the director exited stage left.
Well, with Ross out and Francis Lawrence in to direct the franchise's second film, "Catching Fire," the actor is just hoping that the same magic can be captured without Ross there waving the wand.
"I have spoken to Gary. And I literally don't think I've talked to somebody on the phone and they've sounded more upset than he was," Hutcherson told MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. "He was so disappointed that he couldn't do it. Unfortunately, with the scheduling and the timing, he just didn't have the time to write the script and prep it the way he wants to, the way his work ethic allows him to be as great as he is, which made me extremely sad.
"Gary, I think, brought so much to the movie, and he created that whole world that was so close to the book and so perfect in so many ways that it's going to be hard for Francis to come in, for sure," he added. "But Francis is extremely talented and everyone I've talked to says he's the best guy in the world. So I think he's going to bring a lot. I haven't spoken to Francis. I've spoken to Gary."
Given how epic "The Hunger Games" is, Lawrence makes for an interesting choice. He's no stranger to making visuals that go big or go home, whether as a music video director who has created show-stopping clips for the likes of Beyoncé and Britney Spears or as a film director ("I Am Legend," "Water for Elephants"). With Ross already having created a certain vision for the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' books, Hutcherson is hoping there's a way to meld Lawrence's with it.
"I think he'll stay true to the first one. Gary's already established a tone and a theme and kind of a whole world. So I think Francis will operate within that. I hope so," he said. "At the same time, if I were directing, I'd want to bring my own thing to it. So I hope he brings something different to it, which I'm sure he will."

It doesn't open with a comedic meet-cute, and there's no quirky first date: The film follows Violet Barnes (Blunt) and Tom Solomon (Segel) after they're already engaged.
When we meet the characters, their hurdle is how to survive a long engagement due to Violet's budding postdoctoral career.
While some critics believe the movie is a half-hour too long, most agree that the talented cast of comedians brings the honest, insightful script to life. While "Five-Year Engagement" may not be the "Bridesmaids" of 2012, the reviews suggest the film will be a weekend hit.

Photo: 20th Century FOXIf you haven't seen one of last summer's finest blockbusters or somehow didn't understand the implication of the film's give-away-the-ending title, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" concludes with the highly evolved apes poised to take over the world. Where exactly the story will pick up in Fox's planned sequel is something filmmakers haven't quite cracked, but now we know exactly when audiences will get a chance to check it out.
"That will be a summer '14 movie," Fox head honcho Tom Rothman exclusively told MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
Director Rupert Wyatt is locked in to return to the director's chair after the first film in the rebooted franchise grossed over $480 million worldwide. And Andy Serkis, who wowed moviegoers with his motion-captured portrayal of rebel ape leader, Caesar — a performance that without a doubt deserved high-profile awards-season love but didn't receive any — is also set to reprise his role. "Andy's fully committed to it," Rothman said.
But what about that question of when in the franchise timeline the sequel will begin? During the original film's post-credits sequence, we saw the genetically engineered virus created by James Franco's scientist begin to spread across the globe, thanks to one infected patient's ill-advised airplane trip. How much time will have passed between that pandemic and the start of the sequel has not been decided.
"I think one of the big questions they're wrestling with now, which is kind of the fun, is how far forward do we skip?" Rothman said. "When does it start? Does it start the next day? The next year? Does it start in 10 years? Does it start in 50 years?"
Part of that storytelling decision will also have to take into account a third film, because as Rothman reaffirmed, Fox is planning "Apes" as a trilogy. And he'll accept nothing less than scripts that are even better than the original's. "The script for that 'Apes' film was fantastic," Rothman explained. "We had the script for 10 years, and I always knew it was one of the best scripts. I just didn't think it was possible to do it. I thought it couldn't be done. ... We've got to have a great script. Because now, having made that good a movie, we better make the next one better."
