- Elise Testone Earned J.Lo's 'Respect' On 'American Idol'
Jennifer Lopez calls latest castoff a 'fighter' for speaking her mind during the show.
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Christina GaribaldiElise Testone's ouster from "American Idol" last week wasn't exactly shocking — after all, she'd practically built "a vacation home" in the bottom three (thanks Jimmy Iovine!). But that doesn't mean she ever really expected to go home either.
"I never really allowed myself to think about it," Testone told MTV News. "But, you know, it happened. I don't take it to heart; it's a TV show, you know? It's dramatic. People agree, they don't agree. No matter what you do, people are going to respect you and people aren't."
It's telling that Testone mentioned the whole agree/disagree thing, mostly because, during her time on the show, it seemed like the "Idol" judges could never truly agree on their critiques of her performances. And, of course, that led to Testone frequently disagreeing with their assessments. And now, much like fellow castoff Erika Van Pelt, she's letting her displeasure about that fact be known.
"I can look at it like they're contradicting themselves, or it could be mistaken for I'm just not finding the balance," she said. "So, they'll bring one thing to your attention, and then they'll pull back and they'll bring another thing to your attention, [and] that might contradict the other thing, but it's probably because I'm not balancing out the advice that they're giving, if that makes any sense. Sometimes it didn't make sense. ... I have to say my least-favorite comment was 'Elise is back!' because I'm like, 'I really never went anywhere.'"
Still, Testone said she's eternally grateful for her time on "Idol" — she mentioned bonding with Stevie Nicks as a highlight, joking, "She's basically my best friend at this point" — and added that she's exiting with her head held high, mostly because she never was afraid to speak her mind.
"[I talked to the judges] on a few occasions, especially J.Lo," she said. "I was like, 'Are you mad at me? I'm not trying to talk back in a rude way!' It's just that, being older, and knowing the direction I want to go in, I feel comfortable. Maybe because of my experience with music or my age, I thought I could talk to [the judges]. And I thought that people would respect that in a way, like, 'This girl is speaking up for herself, trying to figure out a clear answer.'
"And Jennifer was OK with that," she continued. "She was like, 'No, I totally understand. I like that you're a fighter and you stand up for what you believe in. That makes me respect you more.' She always says she respects me as an artist, so that's great."

'I think music always has the power to change, heal, bring understanding and bring people together,' Cube tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Tamara Palmer
Ice Cube performs in Los Angeles on Saturday
Photo: Kameron Zach/MTV NewsOn April 29, 1992, Los Angeles erupted after a jury acquitted four LAPD officers accused of beating Rodney King. It was dubbed the L.A. riots, as thousands of people took to the streets in protest. There was looting, arson and widespread violence. The indelible imagery has lived on through archived footage, art and, of course, music.
Albums like Dr. Dre's The Chronic and Ice Cube's The Predator were strongly influenced by the racial tension and social powder-keg conditions that preceded the riots and the aggressions and flared tempers in the aftermath. In many ways, West Coast hip-hop music in the early 1990s helped those outside of L.A. gain perspective on the ongoing power struggle between the black youth and the LAPD officers who police the inner-city neighborhoods.
"People have music in their heart. Music ain't about the charts; it's about how you feel about a certain song," Ice Cube told MTV news on Saturday night after KDAY's annual Krush Groove concert. "I know people who have music, and music changed their life just by hearing a song. It could be an old song, it could be a song that people thought were thrown away and you could hear it and it could inspire you."
Cube dropped The Predator in November 1992, several months after the L.A. riots. On "We Had to Tear This Mother----a Up," Cube expertly painted a lyrical picture of the six-day upheaval. "Not guilty, the filthy devils tried to kill me/ When the news get to the 'hood then n---as will be/ Hotter than cayenne pepper, cuss, bust/ Kickin' up dust is a must," he rapped to open the now-classic track.
The former N.W.A star didn't start there. On "Who Got the Camera?," Cube directly addressed the Rodney King beating, which was famously videotaped. In the song's lyrics, Cube tells a story about being pulled over and assaulted by police. "Started they investigation/ No driver's license, no registration/ When I stepped out the car they slammed me/ Goddamn, y'all, who got the camera," he rapped.
For those who didn't witness the L.A. riots first-hand, Cube's music helped illustrate some of the issues and frustrations that led to the chaos. Cube believes music is a tool that can bring about change, just as it was 20 years ago when he dropped The Predator. "I think music always has the power to change, heal, bring understanding and bring people together," he said.

Rihanna
Photo: Rihanna's FacebookIf there is a downside to what I do (talk to very talented, beautiful people), it's that sometimes you're sitting in between Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker, Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgård and you realize, wow, I must look like Golem next to them. But let's not harp on my insecurities. Let's instead focus on that genetically blessed quartet who star in the new film "Battleship," opening May 18. I'm pleased to report that they're a great bunch and absurdly entertaining to talk to.
You can catch my full interview with the gang on MTV.com following the premiere of an exclusive action scene from the film during "MTV First: Battleship" tonight beginning at 7:56 p.m. on MTV. Having already seen "Battleship," I can tell you this clip really captures the mayhem in this blockbuster.
Anyway, what did I learn in my chat with this group? Well, no matter how freakishly gorgeous you might be, the grass is always greener on the other side. Rihanna revealed she'd like Brooklyn's boobs (her words, not mine), and Brooklyn retorted that she's envious of Rihanna's um ... well, her ass. As I said at the time, this was the best debate ever.
Movies don't come much bigger than "Battleship." Clearly if you have a "Transformers" itch for spectacle, this is the summer for you. But if there's a side story worth talking about amid the 'splosions, clearly it's Rihanna. I spent a good portion of the sit-down with the cast talking to the pop-star-turned-actor and was duly impressed. Humble, self-effacing and quick to joke, count me in the Rihanna fan club from here on out. She's got the right attitude and knows she has plenty to prove as she makes the move into acting ("Battleship" is her debut).
And if you're not rooting for Taylor Kitsch, you are hereby my enemy. "John Carter" took a lot of knocks (most undeserved in my opinion), but this guy takes his gigs seriously (even if the films don't look all that serious) from a distance.
I know what you're thinking. They're all gorgeous and awesome? Annoying, right?
Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker will hit MTV's airwaves Monday, April 30, at 7:56 p.m. ET to premiere the exclusive clip, after which they will stick around for a meaty 30 minutes of Q&A on MTV.com.

Photo: MTV NewsDespite the few months that have passed, it is still very difficult for Waka Flocka Flame to come to terms with the murder of his friend Mario "Slim Dunkin" Hamilton.
"My dog ain't pass. I ain't accepting that," Waka told MTV News after a photo shoot in Brooklyn, New York, last week. "You know that sh-- is gonna carry with me, though, because he's me and I'm him. Together we're Brick Squad, man."
Dunkin, who was an emerging talent in Waka's Brick Squad Monopoly crew, was shot and killed December 16 after an argument in an Atlanta recording studio. The day after Dunkin's death, Waka expressed his grief via Twitter. "WISH IT WAS ME ... MY F---ING RIGHT HAND IS GONE," Flocka wrote.
The "O Let's Do It" MC continued to vent over Twitter, writing, "Damn I feel dead" and "IM LOST" in reaction to the tragic news.
Flocka dedicated his upcoming June album Triple F Life: Friends, Fans and Family to Dunkin. "What's behind my Triple F Life wave? The passing of my best friend Dunk. R.I.P. Dunk," he said. "That boy there was special. That boy there was different."
In March, Vinson "Young Vito" Hardimon, the rapper who police say shot Dunkin, was indicted on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony by a Georgia grand jury.
Before he passed, the rapper appeared alongside Waka on his 2010 debut album, Flockaveli, and on Gucci Mane and V-Nasty's BAYTL LP last year. On Halloween, he dropped Menace II Society, a 20-track mixtape that featured Gucci Mane, Roscoe Dash and Pastor Troy.

Matt Lauer talks to Bobby Brown on "Today"
Photo: NBC NewsTheir relationship may have been tumultuous and their struggles with substance abuse well-documented, but Bobby Brown insists that he is not the reason ex-wife Whitney Houston started doing drugs, a habit that she battled right up until her death in February.
"I'm not the one that got Whitney on drugs, at all," Brown told "Today" host Matt Lauer in an interview set to air on Wednesday and Thursday. "I'm not the reason she's gone."
Brown admitted that when he learned of his ex's death, he was saddened to hear she had started using cocaine again.
"I was hurt ... because, you know, me being off of narcotics for the last seven years — I felt that she was, you know, I didn't know she was struggling with it still. But at the same time, you know — listen, it's a hard fight," he said.
Regarding his involvement in Houston's drug use, Brown said that drugs were a part of Houston's life before they met in 1991. "I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn't the one that got Whitney on drugs at all," he insisted. "It's just, it's just unexplainable, how one could [say that I] got her addicted to drugs. I'm not the reason she's gone."
The New Edition member said that Houston seemed to have "a glow about her" the last time he saw her over dinner at a restaurant with their daughter, Bobbi Kristina, which was about a week before she died.
"She just looked like she was in a good place," he said.

'We're filming it through the middle of the night,' the Movie Awards performers tells MTV News of nocturnal clip.

Fun.
Photo: Courtesy of Fueled By RamenLast month, Fun. promised that the video for "Some Nights" — the follow-up to their chart-topping breakout "We Are Young" — would be "amazing," which was a pretty big statement, considering they hadn't even come up with a concept at the time.
But now, all that has changed. Because when MTV News caught up with the guys last week to discuss their upcoming performance at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, they let it be known that not only have they settled on a treatment for the "Some Nights" clip, but that, yes, it is going to be as amazing as promised.
"The 'Some Nights' video is coming; we're going to start filming it next week," frontman Nate Ruess said. "We're going to try and get it out as soon as possible. It's been really rough, because we've been on tour for the last two months, so we found a night off — that was all we get, and we have to rush to a show the next day — but I know we're going to make the most of it, because the director has a brilliant concept and it's something that doesn't put as much pressure on us, other than just to perform and perform well, and he's going to set an amazing scene around us."
And while Fun. wouldn't reveal all the details about the video, they did let a few plot points out of the bag — namely, it's going to be a nocturnal affair ("There are lanterns," Ruess said) and there will most definitely be a xylophone in play. Other than that, though, well, you'll just have to wait and see.
"We're filming it through the middle of the night," guitarist Jack Antonoff said. "And Andrew [Dost] is going to be walking with a xylophone at some point, not to give away too much."
"Now, you're giving away too much," Dost laughed. "All right, fine, I'm walking with a xylophone."
The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

'It's completely different than anything I've done before,' she tells MTV News about the part in the flick.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kara WarnerDespite its sunny title, it seems that Selena Gomez's next film is going to be anything but a joyful romp.
With "Kids" director Harmony Korine at the directing wheel, "Spring Breakers" will take a turn for the dark and unwieldy. Which is fine for 19-year-old Gomez, whose film docket is quickly getting filled up with films that could make Disney execs blush.
The flick follows a group of college girls (played by Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and "Pretty Little Liars" star Ashley Benson) who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break. After landing in jail, they quickly become entangled with a drug and arms dealer who bails them out. James Franco stars in the film as the corn row-wearing bad guy.
"It's really fun. It's completely different than anything I've done before," she added. "People are going to be a little surprised, I think, by the choice. But it's such a good movie. It's real. It's raw. It's about actual spring break and it's just, they kind of take it to a whole other level." She gushed about the chance to work with Korine, who she said took her acting to a new level. "It's great. The freedom we had, I mean Harmony, the director, was so flexible with us," she explained. "He just really allowed us to push ourselves, which was nice. He never said we did anything wrong. He just said it was a choice. He gave us these locations and just said, 'Act like you're on spring break.' "
In addition to "Spring Breakers," Gomez is also attached to a thriller with Ethan Hawke, "The Getaway," as well as Eli Roth's next flick, "Aftershock."

During their nine-city Under the Influence of Music run, the Pittsburgh boys are planning plenty of backstage fun. "Your little crew better get your little selves together, 'cause T.G.O.D. is coming," Wiz told Mac, playfully threatening his labelmate when they both appeared on "RapFix Live" on April 25.
"Let's go, Most Dope versus Taylor Gang. It's on," Mac responded all smiles, pumping up his rap crew.
Wiz and company get plenty competitive on the road. Fans got a taste of the fun in Khalifa's second "Taylor Gang" video, which he released in September. The Bill Paladino-directed clip is composed of concert footage from Wiz's 2011 Rolling Papers Tour. In addition to onstage shots, there are plenty of clips of team T.G.O.D. playing pranks and shooting Super Soaker water guns. "We play basketball, water fights, we ride bikes," Wiz said of the Taylors' backstage antics. "We're gonna climb mountains on bikes."
Last year, Wiz and Mac went out on the Green Carpet Tour, but their respective careers have grown exponentially since then and anticipation for their latest run is building. Mac is particularly excited. "We should do team building. Can we do safety falls?" he asked Wiz with a child-like glee.
"Absolutely not," Wiz barked, keeping up the faux-feud they cooked up for the "RapFix" episode. "We're gonna play board games, we're gonna have mind fights to see whose mind is stronger."

MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands advanced into the third round on Monday (April 30), with U.K. group Westlife continuing their impressive run by beating out O-Town in the Sweet 16, and England's 5ive overtaking LFO. The two groups join English newcomers One Direction and the Wanted, as well as Big Time Rush and Mindless Behavior in the Elite Eight.
New Kids on the Block had a tough matchup against the Beatles. In the end, the Boston band just couldn't gain enough votes to get them through. But the closest match was a fight to the finish between the Jonas Brothers and Hanson. The JoBros ultimately overtook the trio in a last-minute surge of voting to continue on in the competition.
So what do the Elite Eight matchups look like now? Read on for a breakdown and remember polls close at noon ET on Wednesday!
Midwest
Westlife vs. the Beatles: Westlife's fanbase is no joke. Fans from around the world have been voting for these guys around the clock to ensure they make it to the finals. But the group, who are currently in rehearsals for their farewell tour, will have a tough Elite Eight matchup in the Beatles. The Fab Four barely made it by New Kids on the Block in the Sweet 16, so expect another close matchup in this round. Fun fact about these two groups: Westlife's first seven singles debuted at the top of the U.K. charts, tying with the Beatles' record.East
5ive vs. Jonas Brothers: 5ive have surprised many of the fans watching this competition. They took out two of the biggest boy bands of the late '90s in the early stages of competition, 'NSYNC and LFO, and will now face off against the Jonas Brothers. While 5ive haven't been an active group since 2001, they fanbase is still very loyal. It might be tough, however, to get past the Jonases. The JoBros are still very much a group and are reportedly working on their next album, which may motivate fans to keep voting. This matchup will most likely be another nail-biter.West
The Wanted vs. Big Time Rush: Rushers are making their presence known in this competition as they helped their group, Big Time Rush, overpower R&B chart-toppers Boyz II Men. Things should get very interesting now as BTR take on the Wanted: The Brit newcomers fought to the death in the last round, barely making it by the Monkees, so be ready for another down-to-the-wire clash for this pair of relatively new boy bands.South
One Direction vs. Mindless Behavior: This should be a fight to the finish with fans of both groups casting votes like crazy. Mindless had a big win over NKOTBSB and they hope to carry that momentum into the Elite Eight. But 1D fans have also been voting furiously, giving One Direction relatively easy wins over their competition thus far.Voting for the Elite Eight in MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands runs until noon ET on Wednesday, May 2. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite band made the cut, make sure you keep voting. The Weekly Rising takes a closer look at how Warner Bros. is getting fans involved.

Christian Bale on the set of "The Dark Knight Rises"
Photo: Getty ImagesThe massive amount of buzz that preceded the release of "The Dark Knight" in large part came out of the film's intricate viral marketing campaign. For the third and final film of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, Warner Bros. has mostly opted out of a big viral effort, favoring sparse but mostly traditional material releases.
But with the arrival of the final "Dark Knight Rises" trailer, dedicated fans will find that a virtual hunt for the anonymous vigilante known as "The Batman" is on, and a new viral campaign is in full swing.
The journey begins at the website for the film. There you will find a full dossier on John Doe (a.k.a. The Batman) and the charges he is accused of: six counts of first degree murder, three counts of kidnapping, and 15 counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer; the list goes on.
The premise of the campaign is that in preparation for the upcoming Harvey Dent Day, the mayor of Gotham City has ordered a "redoubling" of efforts to catch Batman and anyone supporting his return. It's important to remember that in the world of "The Dark Knight Rises," this is all happening seven years after Batman took the fall for Harvey Dent's crimes and death.
The site also includes an extensive list of real-world locations where "graffiti related to movement in support of the vigilante's return" is supposedly located. The spots appear around the globe and include dozens of locations in the U.S. alone.
Loyal fans have already been tweeting and emailing from the locations listed on the site, and each location marked off the list has revealed a single frame of film from the upcoming trailer. The stills have been appearing one-by-one here, so if you scroll fast enough, maybe you can make yourself a handy flipbook.
As with the previous viral campaigns for the series, it's likely that we'll have to wait until most or all of the frames have been restored to the online film strip.
Be sure to check back here throughout the next few days, as we keep an eye on the campaign and bring you the first sign of the final "Dark Knight Rises" trailer.

Rapper is accused of first-degree murder in a 2009 shooting.
By Rob MarkmanSeven hundred potential jurors have been summoned to a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, court and 12 will be selected to decide the fate of underground rap star Lil Boosie.
The jury selection for Boosie's murder trial began Monday (April 30), and rather than the normal 500 Baton Rouge residents who are summoned for jury duty each week, an extra 200 have been called for the high-profile case, WAFB News is reporting.
Boosie (real name: Torrence Hatch) is facing a first-degree murder charge for the 2009 shooting of Terry Boyd. Prosecutors are alleging that the rapper ordered the hit on Boyd from behind bars, but through it all, Boosie has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to all charges in June 2010.
At the urging of the prosecution, the judge is allowing the MC's lyrics to be brought up in trial claiming that specific words in his songs equal intent. The defense attorneys are, of course, refuting such claims.
Though it has been widely reported, the death penalty is not on the table if the rapper is found guilty, according to WAFB.
The murder trial is just another bullet point in the rapper's list of legal troubles. In November 2011, Boosie Bad Azz pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiring to smuggle drugs into Louisiana's Dixon Correctional Center and Angola State Penitentiary and was sentenced to eight years behind bars.
During an interview from behind bars in May 2011, the Trill Entertainment rapper told XXL magazine he was being unfairly targeted by the justice system. "[I'm here] 'cause of the songs I made, before I was indicted, about the police in Baton Rouge and what's going on here," he said. "There's a lot with our record label that the system don't like. ... They took my hard drive out of my house after I got arrested. I have albums for days in there. They still haven't returned it. They've had it for damn near a year now. I need that music."
Lil Boosie first rose to prominence with his 2006 debut album Bad Azz and scored his biggest hit in 2008 when he was featured on Lil Webbie's 2008 #1 Billboard rap single "Independent."

Scarlett Johansson in "The Avengers"
Photo: Disney/ MarvelThere are only a few more days left to wait until "Marvel's The Avengers" is unleashed upon the masses and moviegoers everywhere get to revel in the superheroic feat of director Joss Whedon in fully fleshing out so many characters in one giant movie. Two of those characters who get significantly more screen time than they've had in previous Marvel outings are Black Widow/ Natasha Romanoff (played by Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye/ Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner).
Although we don't see their backstory in the film, the two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents have obviously spent a considerable amount of time working together and share a deep connection and mutual respect. When MTV News caught up with Johansson recently, we asked for her thoughts on what direction their relationship might take in future Marvel movies.
"I see that as another movie," Johansson's co-star Mark Ruffalo answered first.
"They do work very well together," Johansson admitted. "And I do know that Marvel is invested in the S.H.I.E.L.D. world. I do think you need a bit of the fantasy to keep it alive unless you go really dark with it. I'm hoping that if the fans give the nod of approval that there will be a future for Hawkeye and Widow somewhere in that S.H.I.E.L.D. world. Although I'd like to take the Widow story way back," Johansson added.
"To the origins?" Ruffalo asked.
"Yeah, it would be fun to do an origin story," she said.
No matter where Black Widow ends up, Johansson has said she's just happy to have survived the filming of "Avengers."
"We all took a pretty big beating," she said. "The stunt sequence that I've been the most proud of is probably my fight with ... " Johansson stopped abruptly. "Actually, I don't know if I can say! All I can say is that I had to fight someone else in this film, and they beat the crap out of me in stunt rehearsals. I have to say I could not believe it," she recalled. "I was like, 'Can you hold it back, OK? You know, I'm trying to work it out here. I've got smaller muscles than you.' I was dragged across the [floor]. When we finally finished [filming] that scene, I was just happy to be alive."

Kings die, dragons flourish and wildfire abounds in the latest episode of the HBO fantasy series.

Gethin Anthony as Renly Baratheon in "Game of Thrones"
Photo: HBOJust as the warlocks of Quarth welcome you to the House of the Undying, so too do we welcome you to this week's "Game of Thrones" recap! Shadow babies are a thing of the past, blue-lipped magic-users lurk about in the distance, and the threat of fire rages everywhere. As always, Westeros remains a wicked and weird place to live, but a place we love visiting every week. Keep reading for this week's highlights!
The King Is Dead
The War of Five Kings is down a player. Renly Baratheon, youngest brother of late King Robert, has joined his elder stag in the great beyond, thanks to the powers of Melisandre's shadow baby, a ruthless but calculated move on warmongering Stannis' part. Sad though it is to see Renly go, we benefit from his death in a few ways: 1) The Tyrell family is on the defensive, and that's going to make queen-in-the-making Margaery Tyrell a very interesting player to watch; 2) Loras, meanwhile, is feeling mighty vengeful over his lover's death, and there's nothing quite like a Knight of Flowers scorned; 3) It proves that Stannis is willing to go so far as committing fratricide in pursuit of the Iron Throne; 4) Renly's death pushes Brienne into Catelyn Stark's camp, the beginning of a great new chapter for both characters; and 5) We got to see a shadow baby assassinate a king. Really, how bad can that be?Fists of Fury
Way up north, far beyond the Wall, Jon Snow and his companions finally reach the Fist of the First Men, a stronghold for the men of the Night's Watch. It's a site with great historical significance for the ancient order of warriors, both for what's happened in their long ago past, and for what's yet to come. Will Jon be around to see these coming events? Perhaps not — he's taken a dangerous assignment under the guidance of ranger Qhorin Halfhand, a living legend within the Watch, to stealthily ambush and kill Wildlings on their way toward dismantling Mance Rayder's assembled army of free folk.Mother Of Dragons
Far east — really far east, if the opening credits' map is to be believed — Daenerys Targaryen and her khalasar are resting and eating well in Qarth, the greatest city that ever was or will be. A few new players are brought into the mix this week: the warlocks of the House of the Undying, blue-lipped magicians with unclear purposes; and Quaithe, a masked priestess of Asshai who is bound to resurface from time to time to offer mysterious words regarding Dany's future. We also gain new insight into Xaro Xhoan Daxos' interest in Dany — he, like so many men, wants to marry the exiled Westerosi princess and profit from her dragons — while new light is shed on Jorah Mormont's true feelings for Dany, already obvious to anyone with a brain. As for Dany herself, she's spending lots of time with her dragons, teaching them to breathe fire onto meat upon her command. Well-trained dragons mean a well-armed army, and Dany's certainly on her way in that regard.Catching Fire
Dragons aren't the only source of fire in the world of "Thrones." In King's Landing, Tyrion Lannister makes the terrible discovery of thousands upon thousands of pots filled with wildfire, a highly flammable substance that could level the capitol of Westeros in one miscalculated move. Apparently, Queen Regent Cersei has commissioned the stuff in anticipation of an attack from Stannis Baratheon and his men. Now, Tyrion has co-opted the order and plans to use the wildfire for his own means. Exactly what he has planned is anyone's guess, but knowing the Imp's sharp mind, it's probably a better plan than whatever his sister was cooking up.Only Death May Pay for Life
Death hasn't swept King's Landing just yet, but it's all the rage in Harrenhal, the great castle in the Riverlands where Arya Stark is currently serving as Tywin Lannister's cup-bearer. There, she runs into the assassin Jaqen H'Ghar for the first time since saving his life some episodes earlier. He claims to owe Arya three lives in return for the lives she saved: his own and his fellow prisoners Rorge and Biter. All she has to do is name the people she wants dead, and the deed is done. A deal that looks too sweet on the surface pans out exactly as articulated, as Arya's first intended victim — the torturous Tickler — is found in Harrenhal with his head halfway twisted around, thanks to the stealthy work of Jaqen. The Avengers faces a tough battle if they want to top Katniss and company's expected $400 million domestic earnings.

Jennifer Lawrence in "The Hunger Games"
Photo: LionsgateAfter its sixth weekend in theaters, The Hunger Games" is still lighting up the box office. Katniss and company's cumulative gross is currently a whopping $601 million worldwide, after raking in $11.2 million in the U.S. and another $7.4 million overseas this weekend.
Standing tall at #4, the dystopian franchise's weekend dip was 23 percent, which is the lowest decline yet for the movie (its second weekend in theaters saw a 60 percent drop), according to Box Office Guru. And it wasn't far behind third-place "The Lucky One," which earned $11.3 following its second weekend.
It looks like the assembly of Earth's mightiest heroes won't even be able to stop Katniss' estimated goal. With "The Hunger Games" sitting comfortably with a domestic total of $372.4 million, it's going to take more than Thor and his mighty hammer to bring "Marvel's The Avengers" to the top. If "The Hunger Games" can rake in $400 million domestically (like box-office experts predicted), it would outperform the first films in both "Twilight" and "Harry Potter."
As audiences gear up for the highly anticipated Marvel film, only time will tell what this weekend will bring the first film in Katniss' franchise. And as far as the success of a sequel since Gary Ross is no longer on board to direct, it isn't something Josh Hutcherson, who plays Peeta, is particularly worried about.
"Gary, I think, brought so much to the movie, and he created that whole world that was so close to the book and so perfect in so many ways that it's going to be hard for Francis [Lawrence] to come in, for sure," Hutcherson told MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. "But Francis is extremely talented and everyone I've talked to says he's the best guy in the world. So I think he's going to bring a lot [to the sequel]."

'He's got a wry sense of humor about himself,' actor tells MTV News at Tribeca Film Festival.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
Mark Ruffalo at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of "Avengers"
Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty ImagesOf all the actors coming together to form the Avengers, Mark Ruffalo decidedly had the most to prove. After two previous Hulk films left fans largely unsatisfied, a new actor in the role could either lead to another letdown or, finally, to a version that felt true to the comics.
Fortunately for Ruffalo, early reviews of "The Avengers" overwhelming point to his version of Bruce Banner as one of the highlights of the film. MTV News caught up with Ruffalo at the closing-night ceremonies for the Tribeca Film Festival to get his take on the Hulk's positive reception and to find out what was different this time around.
Ruffalo felt the pressure that came with the role of the Hulk as soon as he signed on to be the third actor in as many films. "It was very daunting. I've never had a part so harshly reviewed before I even shot a single frame of film," he said. "The fanboys had a lot to say about it — granted, they had a great deal of care about this part and a lot of sentimentality as well, as do I, growing up on it."
The actor said that the latest technology gave him the biggest advantage over the first two iterations of the character. "There have been other great performances as Banner. The only real edge that I had was that the technology had changed so much since that last movie that I actually got to play the Hulk," Ruffalo said.
This latest version of the Hulk takes a different approach to the character, giving him a dry sense of humor about his condition, but Ruffalo gave credit to both Eric Bana and Edward Norton for helping lay the foundation in the first two films.
"I just think it's a natural progression of the other performances. When you find the guy at this point, he's tired of running. He's got a wry sense of humor about himself," Ruffalo said. "He's ready to turn and face the world. He's got a charming world-weariness that's kind of knocked the edges off of him and made him slightly more accessible."

Singer goes tribal and gets her dance on in trippy new Talk That Talk video.

Rihanna in her "Where Have You Been" music video
Photo: Island/Def JamRihanna's wondering "Where Have You Been" in the just-released music video for the Talk That Talk single. Her search takes her to mucky rivers, flower-drenched hillsides, desert-scapes and smoke-filled dance parties, overflowing with dancers popping and locking in tribal couture alongside the sexy pop vixen.
The video, which she dropped on her Facebook page, opens with Rihanna emerging from a river, scantily clad and as lonely-looking as hinted at in the track's lyrics. "Where have you been all my life?" she sings while performing more intense choreography than fans of the singer might be used to. She shimmies and shakes in an exotic desert-like setting, wondering where her one true love might be hiding.
The video serves as a kind of photo shoot for a tribal-print-themed spread in a fashion magazine, with Ri donning funky looks that feature lots of animal prints, chunky jewelry and headdresses. It's sexy and full of longing, much like the song itself, and even includes the singer appearing topless in certain shots. And if a topless Rihanna can't find love, what hope is there for the rest of humanity?
As the Calvin Harris-produced track grinds on in all its EDM glory, Rihanna continues her trek throughout the world, looking for that special guy, who seems to slip through her fingers at every turn. Rihanna looks fiercely into the camera, shimmying to the song's bumping beat, with her siren call being blasted into the wilds of the world.
The video turns psychedelic as it nears its end and a kaleidoscope effect is filtered over the clip, with glitter-sprinkled Rihanna making one final plea. Several dance breaks, wardrobe changes and hairstyles later, Rihanna looks as if she still might have to live her life all by her lonesome. At the video's end, she goes back underwater, with just her dancers to keep her company.
In addition to dropping her video on Monday (April 30), the singer will also sit down with her "Battleship " castmates during "MTV First: Battleship," where she'll be on hand to debut an exclusive clip from the blockbuster and open up about her big-screen debut.
Don't forget to watch Rihanna on MTV tonight at 7:56 p.m. ET to see the premiere of an exclusive "Battleship" clip, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A with the film's stars on MTV.com, hosted by MTV News' Josh Horowitz. Fans can get in on the action by submitting video or text questions via MTV.com or via Twitter using @MTVNews, hashtag #MTVFirst or #AskBattleship.

Khloe Kardashian-Odom and Lamar Odom
Photo: Simon Russell/Getty ImagesRepresentatives for Khloé Kardashian are denying a TMZ report that the reality TV star and her basketball player husband, Lamar Odom, are pulling the plug on their "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" spin-off "Khloé & Lamar" so Odom can focus solely on his sports career.
"The show has not been canceled," Khloé's rep told MTV News via e-mail, adding that further production will "depend on their schedules as Lamar's basketball is [the] priority right now."
The former Los Angeles Lakers forward was traded to the Dallas Mavericks late last year. After a difficult season, he was placed on the team's inactive list earlier this month. Odom reportedly clashed with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and issued a statement to ESPN, saying, "I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship."
There's still a chance the Mavericks will trade Odom to another team, though the team and Cuban have not publicly announced their decision at this time.
The pair will reportedly return full-time to Los Angeles, where Odom is said to have hired personal trainers to help get him back into peak playing form. They will also continue to appear on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," as Khloé was included in the $40 million deal E! reached with the family to keep "Keeping Up" on the air for three more years.

Film breaks records in Mexico, Brazil and other foreign markets a week ahead of its U.S. opening.

Chris Evans as Captain America In "The Avengers"
Photo: Walt Disney StudiosThe Avengers have already begun their world domination. Marvel's crossover movie opened in 39 foreign markets over the weekend, a week before its scheduled U.S. release, and the records have already started to shatter.
Premiering in only 70 percent of the total foreign territories, "The Avengers" has already earned $178.4 million. That total includes record-breaking opens in Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan, the Philippines, Hong Kong and seven other markets, according to Box Office Mojo. Australia's $19.7 million total was the second-highest opening in that country's history.
The $178.4 million total at the international box office ranks as only the ninth-highest foreign opening ever, but it should be taken into account that large markets like China and Russia won't get "The Avengers" until later this week, the same day it opens in the U.S.
Box Office Mojo predicted that "The Avengers" could end up with $600 million at the foreign box office alone, a figure "The Hunger Games" just passed with its global total.
Early tracking and box-office analysis have already predicted that when "The Avengers" does finally open Stateside, it will be enormous. Several experts have projected a possible domestic opening week of around or above $150 million. That opening would put the film well above the series' best debut, "Iron Man 2," which opened in the summer of 2010 to $128 million.
If "The Avengers" were to open above the $150 million mark, it would then be in contention for one of the highest U.S. opens of all time. The current champ, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" opened to $169 million last year.

The action flick will feature the 'Twilight' actress as the leading lady and co-executive producer.
By Fallon Prinzivalli
Kristen Stewart
Photo: MTV NewsSince landing the role of the accident-prone heroine in "The Twilight Saga," Kristen Stewart has sought gritty indie roles that test her acting abilities and cause a stir among fans, the first being her role as a stripper and prostitute in "Welcome to the Rileys." She then cut off her long locks and donned a choppy, black bob to play Joan Jett in "The Runaways." And later this year, she'll portray 16-year-old marijuana enthusiast Marylou in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's novel, "On the Road."
But that's just the beginning for the 22-year-old actress. According to Variety, Stewart is set to star in the bold action flick "Cali."
The film centers on Mya (Stewart) and Chris, a couple from San Fernando Valley who sell a fake snuff film and disappear with the money. But Mya — who's thought to be dead — must head back to Cali years later to save the younger sister she left behind. When she and Chris return, they're faced with an array of characters, including "angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs [and] an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat."
Michael Diliberti ("30 Minutes or Less") penned the script and will produce along with Voltage Production's Craig J. Flores ("300") and Zev Foreman. New School Media's Brian Levy is the executive producer alongside Nicolas Chartier ("The Hurt Locker") of Voltage and Stewart herself. This will be the actress' first producing credit.
"Kristen is a talented and dynamic actor, with a proved box office draw," Flores told Variety. "Her role in 'Cali' will be edgy and sexy. It will no doubt push the envelope on the public's view of Kristen's wide-ranging abilities. Voltage is thrilled to have her as a partner on this fantastic film."
The project is still in the early stages of development, so there's no release date yet, but audiences can catch the actress in "Snow White and the Huntsman" in theaters June 1. Later, Stewart's dynamic year will continue when she reprises her role as Bella Cullen in
"Breaking Dawn - Part 2" on November 16. Which KStew movie are you most excited to see this year? Leave your comment below!
