- 'American Idol': Who Will Be Crowned On Queen Night?
Where's Colton Dixon when you need him? We share song suggestions for the top six.
By Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery
"American Idol" top six
Photo: FOXEvery year, there's one "American Idol" theme week that proves to be the equalizer. Sometimes it's disco night, or performance episodes dedicated to Frank Sinatra, Gloria Estefan, big band or Bon Jovi.
Wednesday night's (April 25) Queen motif could be the one that trips up some of this year's most promising contenders. What a time to be missing the show's resident glamo (that's glam and emo smushed together) rocker, Colton Dixon!
Though both of us are huge fans of the pioneering British stadium rockers, is there any band whose music feels less relevant at this cultural moment? In other words, six seasons after Simon and the gang first took us on a trip down "Fat Bottom Girls" lane, it's the obvious choice for "Idol" as the show steams — or limps — toward next month's finale.
All snark aside, Wednesday night could belong to Elise Testone, since she's the only one left who understands the intricate velvety folds of late singer Freddie Mercury's bombastic voice. Also, if it was up to us, someone would have to do a song from the hugely underrated 1981 soundtrack to "Flash Gordon" (AAAH-AAAH!) but that's for another time.
Of course, as is seemingly required by law, there's also going to be a second hour of "Idol," in which the top six will sing a song of their choice (like, it could be anything), so in anticipation of some "Killer Queen" and whatever comes after, MTV News' resident "Idol" know-it-alls, Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery, are back with their carefully considered song suggestions for the remaining "Idol" hopefuls:
Hollie Cavanagh
Let's get it right out of the way: Bottom-three squatter Hollie continues to live on borrowed time. Queen's music is all about emotion and showy delivery, and the British cowgirl has proven time and again that those qualities are a taller order than, well, her. That said, she could soar with one of the band's many rich ballads, such as "You're My Best Friend" or "Somebody to Love." For her song choice: Mariah Carey 's "Hero," just because. — KaufmanIt would be fitting if she did "Another One Bites the Dust," since she's probably toast this week. Instead, she'll do one of Queen's excellent power ballads, like "Spread Your Wings" or "Save Me" (even though America won't). As for her other song? I don't even know where to begin. When she auditioned in season 10, she did a couple of Miley Cyrus tunes, so I'll just say she does "The Climb" again. Hollie really inspires enthusiasm, if you couldn't tell. — Montgomery
Joshua Ledet
Josh has pretty much been able to sing anything thrown his way so far, but Queen could be a serious roadblock. Though their songs have plenty of flavor, it's not necessarily the gospel-y kind he favors. He should probably take the safe route and put some of his soul on a big ballad like "I Want to Break Free." If the Queen thing falls flat, he can redeem himself with something young, sexy and firmly in his lane like Chris Brown's "Beautiful People." — KaufmanHe's got the pipes — and the burgeoning ego — to take on the entirety of "Bohemian Rhapsody," but he'd be better served channeling all those vocal histrionics (and craziness) into three-and-a-half minutes of "Don't Stop Me Now." And then we could call him Mr. Fahrenheit instead of Mantasia. For his second song, dude, I don't know. He should just do a Fantasia song again. Any of them. — Montgomery
Jessica Sanchez
It's been an up-and-down ride for the once-infallible Sanchez, but she should cruise this week, and I'm going to suggest she go rogue and sing the 1981 David Bowie/Queen collabo "Under Pressure," which has a dynamic range that could let her show off those pipes. And she has to do Beyoncé again, so "Halo" it is. — KaufmanCould see her dominating "Play the Game," which has both scope and swagger, or "Body Language," which is insane enough for BeBe Chez to take a bite out of. For song #2, well, like Kaufman, I've been wanting more Beyoncé for weeks now, and what better way for her to reclaim her mojo — and throw some shade at her presumptive finals foe Phillip Phillips — than doing "If I Were a Boy"? — Montgomery
Skylar Laine
The Mississippi queen has all the tools necessary to kill a rock song, but this might be the week she needs to give up trying to chicken-fry every performance. She might be able to get away with a twangy "These Are the Days of Our Lives," or else she could go for broke and cowboy-up "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." She almost has to go with Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman" just to remind us why we love her so much. — KaufmanDid Gil already pick "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"? Dang, he did. OK, well, what if she put a countrified spin on "Fat Bottom Girls"? Or how about "I Want to Break Free"? As for her personal pick, I'll say she does Carrie Underwood. "Jesus, Take the Wheel" anyone? — Montgomery
Phillip Phillips
No one has ever really tried to figure out what a Dave Matthews cover of Queen would sound like — until now. The boy can't help it, so Phil Squared will almost certainly grout his way through "Another One Bites the Dust." As for his own pick, does it really matter? I'll say something by Zac Brown Band, like "Chicken Fried." — KaufmanAs the lone remaining (sorta) rocker, Phillips could score this week with any number of Queen stompers: "Now I'm Here," "Tie Your Mother Down," "We Will Rock You" — any of them would work. If he were smart, he'd fulfill manifest destiny (and play to his fervent female fanbase) by doing the Dave Matthews Band's "Crash Into Me" for his second song. It'd be right in his wheelhouse, and it would kill. — Montgomery
Elise Testone
Like we said, for one week only, it's hers to lose. If there's any way for the perennial cellar-dweller to scrape herself up from the floor, it's a titanic tumble through one of Queen's stadium rockers. She could go obvious with "We Are the Champions" or go for broke with "Bohemian Rhapsody," which might actually be a bit too tricky for her if she's just looking to hang on. Then again, she can really blow it out if she thinks it's her last chance, so why not go all-in with Soundgarden's bombastic "Black Hole Sun"? — KaufmanFor whatever reason, I have a sneaking suspicion she's doing "Killer Queen"; maybe it has something to do with her penchant for the dramatic? "Radio Ga Ga" would also be a good fit, as would "I Want to Break Free." For her second song, does she live up to her raspy potential and do something like Taylor Dane's epic "Love Will Lead You Back"? Given that she could choose anything, well, your guess is as good as mine. — Montgomery

Band takes MTV News behind the scenes of upcoming clip, which stars Olympic hopeful John Orozco.

Gym Class Heroes' Travie McCoy
Photo: MTV NewsIn previous videos, Gym Class Heroes have shown off their "mutant powers," gone gritty, and even gotten in touch with their inner Lucius Blacks.
But in their upcoming clip for "The Fighter," they're taking a different tack: They're getting real.
"The video is part documentary-style, part-performance [and] it follows the life of John Orozco, a young, up-and-coming, hopefully gold medalist from the Bronx," GCH frontman Travie McCoy told MTV News on the set of the video. "Plus, an awesome, energetic performance from us and Ryan Tedder."
Orozco's story — from a talented Bronx gymnast to training at the U.S. facility in Colorado Springs to perhaps this country's best chance of snagging a gold at the London Olympics — has already caught the attention of outlets like the New York Times, and GCH are hoping their new video will only add to his profile. And provide a soundtrack to his success too.
"Ryan did his thing on the hook, he adds the extra punch," McCoy said. "And with the Olympics and stuff coming up, I think it's going to be the anthem for a lot of people to get pumped up to."
Of course, there are other benefits to having one of the most hotly tipped Olympic hopefuls star in your new video. Namely, you can let someone else stand beneath the spotlight, which, thankfully, takes the pressure off the Heroes and their less-than-stellar acting chops.
"It's great doing a video like this because I feel like a lot of other videos we shoot, we end up sticking to somewhat of a script and act," drummer Matt McGinley laughed. "And I mean, I'm a musician, so it's great to be doing what comes natural."

Lil Wayne
Photo: Hutton Supancic/ Getty ImagesIt seems like we've been talking about a Lil Wayne/ Juelz Santana collabo album forever. But when the much-ballyhooed I Can't Feel My Face will actually drop is anyone's guess. While Weezy's 2010 jail stint definitely postponed the project, now Tunechi says when he got home, he reached out to his Dipset buddy to finally put their plans in motion.
"I actually got at Elz when I got out and told him, 'Man, I think it's time we really capitalize on that,' " Wayne recalled to Amanda Seales of MTV's "Hip Hop POV" in an outtake from last week's episode.
It's more than six years in the making, but for a time, I Can't Feel My Face was one of rap's most-anticipated projects. Now that Weezy has put his legal troubles behind him, it's Santana who's facing drama after his New Jersey recording studio was raided in January 2011.
"He can't work how he wants to work because they shut down his studio," Wayne explained. "I sent him some music and he didn't send them back in the time-fashion that I work."
Never one to remain idle, Tunechi took the songs that he had set aside for the joint album and repurposed them for his upcoming I Am Not a Human Being II solo LP. "I started putting extra verses on those songs and I've moved on," he confirmed. "Now what probably would've been I Can't Feel My Face, has now turned into I Am Not a Human Being."
During a June 2011 interview on "RapFix Live," Juelz gave his own reasoning for the delay. "It wasn't no one reason it didn't happen. Me and Wayne always was on the same page, musically, as far as friendship-wise," he said. "I'm just happy we didn't let that get in the way of us being cool, being able to do things in the future; we ain't let it get to us."

Mila Kunis attends CinemaCon 2012
Photo: Getty ImagesDespite the fact that the stars of Sam Raimi's buzz-worthy upcoming movie "Oz: The Great and Powerful" aren't allowed to offer up any specifics about their involvement in the film, we've managed to glean a few positive yet mysterious comments here and there.
Such was the case during a recent run-in with the lovely and talented Mila Kunis at CinemaCon, where we learned a little more about her character's motivations, as well as some teasers about a short-film project Kunis made with her co-star James Franco that she promised will be better than their Funny or Die parody of "The Hills."
"Sam Raimi [directed the movie]. What else do you need?" Kunis said when asked what else fans should know about the return to Oz. "[Also] James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz," she added. "That's all you need."
And what about her character, Theodora? Is she good and then evil? A nice blend? Who is she?
"She's a good person who gets her heart broken," Kunis said. "What happens to young ladies when their heart gets broken?"
Josh Horowitz answered that they turn into horrible evil witches. "You said it, not me," Kunis said with a smile.
We then brought up her re-teaming with Franco and asked whether they had any downtime during "Oz" to shoot another brilliant short film, à la their "Hills" parody.
"In the process, James and I had another collaboration that may or may not ever see the light of day. That was one of the many shorts that James shoots. That might go down in history as my favorite," Kunis revealed. "I will not talk about it until it is shown, because that it beat 'The Hills.' It's a whole other short that we shot. It was one of the more fun experiences one could ever have."
Although Kunis claimed she could not reveal any more details, we asked her to at least tell us what genre the short falls into and offered up horror as a possible category.
"Horror? Horror," Kunis answered. "It wasn't dirty," Kunis added. "In case you're going in that direction."

Westlife and 5ive could upset two of the biggest boy bands of all time in the first round. Vote now!
By Christina GaribaldiWe are still in the first round of voting in MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands, and already we are seeing some big surprises. Backstreet Boys are finding themselves behind Irish boy band Westlife, 'NSYNC are trailing former boy band 5ive and New Kids on the Block are neck-and-neck with British boy band Take That.
It seems like fans are rallying behind their favorites and battling it out to make sure they move on to the next round.
"I don't see how BSB and 'NSYNC are losing?!?!" MTV News reader Britney commented. Another fan, nickestlife, wrote, "Please VOTE WESTLIFE!!!! Don't let them LOSE!!!"
But the question on a lot of minds is: Why aren't the boy bands that dominated the U.S. pop charts not easily moving on to the next round?
"Remember that in America, while Westlife and Take That and 5ive were all a blip on the radar in the U.S., in the U.K. Take That and Westlife are enormous," Keith Caulfield, associate director of charts/retail at Billboard told MTV News. "Westlife, for example, has had 14 #1 singles on the U.K. singles chart, the second most only behind the Beatles, so they're kind of big."
According to Melissa Maerz, senior writer for Entertainment Weekly, the fact that these older boy bands are British may work in their favor, especially with the emergence of One Direction and the Wanted.
"I think probably what's happening is a combination of things. I think the fact that One Direction is in the news for having the biggest debut of a British band of all time, including the Beatles, has really made everyone pay attention to them and everyone is talking about One Direction," Maerz said. "And because they and the Wanted are coming at the same time, people are starting to pay attention to British boy bands, and the kids who are just discovering One Direction and the Wanted probably have parents who can say to them, 'Oh, this is kind of the same thing that happened when Westlife and Take That came to our shores."
But no matter what their chart performance may be, or where they come from, their advancement in the next round depends on only one thing: the fans.
"It frankly just comes down to: Are there passionate fans that are going to bother to spend the time on voting?" Caulfied said. "I think, generally speaking, when you have two acts going against one another, whoever has the most motivated, contemporary, engaged fanbase on the Web will win."
Voting is under way in round one of MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands and closes at noon ET on Thursday, April 26. As one-third of the iconic girl group, the fiesty Lisa Lopes blazed a trail for today's rebellious pop sirens.
By Rebecca ThomasIn an era when being as bold as you wanna be can be good for business, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, one-rebellious-third of the iconic girl group TLC, might not have seemed like an anomaly among the Rihannas, Katys and Britneys. But back in the early 1990s, you were bound to arch a few eyebrows if your thing was to rock condoms as eye patches and spit verses like, "If I need it in the morning or the middle of the night, I ain't too proud to beg."
Philadelphia-born Lisa was just barely out of her teens in 1991, when she joined a trio under the direction of manager Perri "Pebbles" Reid, an R&B singer herself and then-wife of LaFace Records co-founder Antonio "LA" Reid. Left Eye, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas would release their debut album, Ooooooohhh ... On the TLC Tip, the following year.
The unlikely uniform was sagging baggy Guess jeans, hats to the back and oversize tees decorated with safe-sex latex, and the sound (mostly courtesy of producer Dallas Austin) was an in-your-face blend of pop, rap and R&B, with some New Jack Swing for good measure. Don't forget that all that racy talk and those Trojan sunglasses were actually brave messages about the HIV-AIDS epidemic that would eventually give way to Left Eye's poignant bars on songs like "Waterfalls."
By the time of her death, 10 years ago today (April 25) at age 30, Left Eye and her groupmates had seemingly locked down every imaginable accolade. Four Grammys and just as many multiplatinum albums, a stream of chart-crushing singles ("No Scrubs," "Creep"), not to mention the coveted rank of second-best-selling girl group of all time (the Spice Girls sit at #1). But before she was killed in a tragic car accident on a spiritually-minded trip to Honduras, the rapping third of TLC had also weathered her fair share of drama.
With the release in 1994 of the group's diamond-selling Crazy Sexy Cool, the trio took the opportunity to play on fans' perception of their particular personas: Georgia girl Chilli brought the sexy, gravelly voiced T-Boz played it cool and Left Eye was "the crazy one." If these were supposed to be symbolic tags, Lopes perhaps had her own interpretation. Feeling underappreciated, she set fire to a pile of sneakers belonging to NFL boyfriend Andre Rison that ultimately left his Georgia home in flames and the singer in handcuffs. The couple only made more headlines as allegations of cheating and even domestic abuse dogged them. But who could forget the famous Vibe mag cover of the girls dressed in firemen clothes and meeting the media maelstrom head-on?
The fiercely independent Lopes took on her label — and then her bandmates. Never mind that 1999's FanMail (email was kind of a big deal back then!), their third effort together, spawned massive hits like "Scrubs" and the poignant anthem "Unpretty," Left Eye thought her contributions were being diminished. So she outright challenged Chilli and T-Boz to record solo albums that would be bundled and sold for fans to decide which of the three CDs was best. When that didn't pan out, Left Eye simply moved on and recorded a solo effort, Supernova, which saw an overseas release but not much traction.
In the end, what fans wanted was TLC: beauty, brains, swagger, and each member exhibited all three qualities in her own way. In Left Eye, who told MTV News in a late-90s interview that she really admired "Cosby Show" actress Lisa Bonet (a.k.a. boho icon Denise Huxtable), girls, in particular, had a model for going your own way. Her indie streak was as pronounced as the football stripe painted beneath her eye, and that's as much her legacy as the music.

Photo: Larry Marano/ Getty ImagesStill playing "Without You" on repeat? Well, it looks like David Guetta and Usher will have a new one for you to play over and over again soon.
The French hitmaker teased to The Hollywood Reporter that he's worked with the R&B star on new music. "These are really big records that we're working on right now," he said of the twosome's latest work. "It's really crazy."
How crazy? According to Guetta, "really, really, really crazy."
While it's unknown when the music will appear, the two recently hit the stage together at Coachella. And Guetta was just as surprised as his audience by the last-minute performance. "I was playing, and then he came to hang out and just to have a good time," he told the Hollywood Reporter. "Then I saw him on the side of the stage and I gave him the sign. He was like, 'Do you want me to do it with you? To come on stage?' and I was like, 'Hell yeah! Of course!'
Guetta and Usher found chart success together back in 2011 with "Without You." And the singer explained that it was just the right time and place for it.
"I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," Usher said about that song and how it relates to his musical philosophy. "Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. There's many different genres, and when you see R&B and pop and house, as well as electronic, come together, that's the reality of what music is."
Guetta is currently working on new music, and Usher will drop his new album Looking For Myself in June.

Director also opens up on 'Beetlejuice' sequel and whether he'd return to 'Batman.'
By John Mitchell, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Johnny Depp in "Dark Shadows"
Photo: Warner BrosFans of the classic late-'60s soap "Dark Shadows" were surprised when the trailer for the film made it seem like director Tim Burton had reimagined his subject matter as a farcical comedy rather than the dark, Gothic soap opera fans remembered. Since then, there have been whispers that the film is far darker than it is being marketed, so we went straight to the source to find out what is really up with the buzzed-about film.
At CinemaCon 2012, MTV News asked Burton if he felt the trailer is reflective of his film, which hits theaters May 11, and while he admits there are humorous elements to the film, he said he doesn't believe it can be classified as a comedy.
"Everything that's in [the trailer] is in the movie," Burton told MTV News. "It's a funny film for me, because I never considered it a comedy. I was always trying to capture the weird vibe of 'Dark Shadows,' which is a weird thing to try to capture. It was a weird daytime soap opera."
Burton, a longtime "Shadows" fan who said he "recalls the show affectionately," said that whatever humor is in the film is there because the situation Barnabas is in when he is unearthed 200 years after being buried is innately humorous.
"It's not like I'm being campy with it or anything," Burton said. "The guy's been locked in a box for 200 years, and [when] he comes out ... something weird is going to happen."
As for comparisons to his previous films, most notably "Edward Scissorhands," Burton said he can see the link, but confessed that there are many subtle differences between Barnabas Collins and any other character he's put onscreen.
"Edward Scissorhands was more of a naive character. Barnabas has been around the block a few times," Burton told MTV News with a laugh. "There is something about a character who doesn't quite fit into the world, which is similar, just in this case, he's been around a long time."
Burton also gave us up-to-date news on one project many of his biggest fans are very excited for: "Beetlejuice 2." The film is being written by "Shadows" scribe Seth Grahame-Smith, and for Burton, that's as far as things have gotten.
"He's working away on it," the director said of Grahame-Smith, "so I'm just waiting to see what he does."
As for whether we can expect him to make a return to "Batman," the film franchise he started with the original 1989 blockbuster, he was straight to the point, saying, "I think I have enough on my plate."

Pop star said he wrote about his 2011 paternity controversy on the upcoming album.
By John Mitchell
Justin Bieber
Photo: Valery Hache/ AFP/ Getty ImagesSometimes you just have some things to get off your chest.
For teen pop phenom Justin Bieber, one of those things is a paternity suit filed last year by a 20-year-old California woman claiming that a brief bathroom rendezvous with him following an October 2010 concert resulted in her pregnancy.
Rather than ignore the matter, Bieber is confronting it head on with his new album Believe. "That girl — Mariah Yeater — who said she was going to have my baby. I wrote about that situation," Bieber told the BBC of his new album. "Every song has a piece of me... I wrote almost all of them or co-wrote them."
The case, which Yeater dropped in November, has many wondering if Bieber was wise to commit his feelings to something as public and eternal as an album, or if he should have just let go of what was really a minor controversy.
Though few believed them, the rumors introduced Bieber to one of the many pitfalls of celebrity and briefly overwhelmed his press cycle when he was trying to promote his Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe. The accusation challenged his family-friendly brand, something family law expert told MTV News could be grounds for a defamation of character suit.
The suit likely weighed heavily on Bieber, regardless of its merit, making it prime material for his songwriting. But does dragging it all back into the public sphere benefit him in any tangible way? His recent tweet about Yeater — which read, "Dear mariah yeeter...we have never met...so from the heart i just wanted to say..." accompanied by an audio clip of Sasha Baron Cohen's character Borat saying, "You will never get this" — was neither subtle nor particularly sophisticated. And since details of the suit were made so public and remain fresh in the minds of his fans, why restart the conversation if there is nothing new to add?
Responding to your own press is a slippery slope for celebrities, and it can do one of two things: clear the air or consume the conversation. For Madonna and Michael Jackson, it did the former. "Billie Jean," Michael Jackson's classic declaration that he was not the father, was wrapped in a bit of mystery. There have long been contradictory claims that the song is about groupies MJ encountered early in his fame and that it was derived from a real-life experience in which a mentally ill fan claimed that Jackson had fathered her child. But it really doesn't matter; we just know that these accusations were out there, so MJ decided to shut it down with a song.
The difference is, Bieber's controversy is already over and, considering few people ever believed the claims, was never a huge deal to begin with.
Ever an expert at handling the press, Madonna held her head high when she addressed the massive backlash she encountered after she pressed through her sexually charged Erotica-era with a lone song, "Human Nature." She posited that people's anger with her had more to do with their own hang-ups than with her behavior and refused to apologize. Madonna knew she'd struck a nerve and defiantly declared, "Absolutely no regrets."
She dually stood her ground and introduced something new to the conversation. With "Human Nature," Madonna held up a mirror to the public and asked "Is it really my sexuality you are uncomfortable with?" Bieber needs to pay particular attention to this lest he fall hard into Taylor Swift territory, where the artist is practically expected to directly address the minutia of their private lives in every song.
First, it was Joe Jonas with "Forever & Always," then John Mayer on "Dear John" and Kanye West on "Innocent." It's important, of course, for a singer/ songwriter to write what they know, but there's a reason we only just learned who the subject of Adele's multiplatinum, Grammy-winning 21 was (and why she's never confirmed it).
We want to be able to apply a song's emotion to our own lives, but it's hard to do that when a track is either too specific or too self-indulgent. We haven't heard Bieber's song about Yeater, so we can't speak to whether it is either. If he has something new to say about the controversy — perhaps how it felt to be betrayed by one of his fans — then he may have found a way to turn lemons into lemonade.
But if all he brings to the table are boasts about not being the father, well, then he should get ready for questions about how literal his love songs are regarding his relationship with Selena Gomez. Once you open the door and make your private life the subject of your professional endeavors, there's no turning back.

Seventh-place finisher tells MTV News he hopes to model his career after Daughtry, who finished fourth place during season five
By Christina GaribaldiIt's certainly not uncommon for an "American Idol" cast-off to go on and do amazing things. Jennifer Hudson, who ended up in seventh place on season three, went on to win an Oscar for her role in "Dreamgirls," season two runner-up Clay Aiken has sold 4.9 million albums and fourth-place finisher Chris Daughtry had two consecutive #1 albums on the Billboard charts.
Hoping to add his name to that list is Colton Dixon. In a shocking elimination on last week's episode, the 20-year-old rocker was sent home after appearing for the first time in the bottom three, finishing out his "Idol" run in seventh place. But Dixon isn't too heartbroken over his elimination, as he's already thinking about the next step in his career: his debut album.
"I have multiple, multiple songs, it's gonna be hard choosing songs for a record, I'm going to be writing till my fingers bleed," Dixon told MTV News on Monday. "I hope I get to incorporate some of my older stuff in there too because then I can make it come full circle for me and this record would mean that much more. But just the different writers we're already talking about. I had dinner with Chris Daughtry and there's the option of writing with him, which would be amazing. And Jason Wade of Lifehouse called me up after I did his song and was interested in writing."
And it seemed that during Dixon's dinner with Daughtry they talked a lot more than just music. "He's such a great guy, genuine guy, we talked about whatever, Jesus, life, we talked about Batman for probably 30 minutes, we're both Batman nerds," Dixon revealed, "It's great to see established artists reaching out and trying to pull you up there."
Yet, besides swapping Batman stories, Daughtry has given Dixon some valuable advice on how to achieve success post-"American Idol."
"I'm definitely trying to get as much advice from Chris on the future as possible," Dixon said. "Just to help model my career after things that he has done, because he's done a phenomenal job of just going for it even after getting voted off fourth. I'm hoping I can make the most out of top seven." Would you want to hear a Colton Dixon and Chris Daughtry collaboration? Let us know in the comments.

In the wake of her assault by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, Rihanna has jumped on-and-off the revenge wagon over the past few years, always keeping things vague, but biting. In her song, "Man Down", and the accompanying video, a vengeful Rihanna shoots down her assailant after he sexually assaults her, singing, "What started out as a simple altercation/ Turned into a real sticky situation."
Carrie Underwood had payback on her mind too in her breakout hit, "Before He Cheats," in which she hits out at an unidentified philanderer by singing, "I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive/ Carved my name into his leather seats. I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights/ Slashed a hole in all four tires." Pink was not so delicate in her hit "So What," in which she snarled, "And I don't need you/ And guess what/ I'm having more fun/ And now that we're done/ I'm gonna show you tonight." That, of course, was written before she reunited with her target, ex- and now-current husband Carey Hart.
Speaking of exes, Kid Rock was much less delicate in "Half Your Age," which is a clear slag of ex-wife pin-up Pamela Anderson, in which he informs the former "Baywatch" babe that, "I found someone new who treats me better/ She don't bitch about things we ain't got/ When I sing this tune it don't upset her/ She's half your age and twice as hot."
Justin Timberlake wasn't as explicit, but he definitely left little doubt that he was busted up over his split with Britney Spears when he wrote the scathing, "Cry Me a River," which features the classic lines, "Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn/ To cry me a river." Though you never really see her out on a date with anyone, Kelly Clarkson has more romantic drama than most pop stars, which she's chronicled in a series of scathing tunes, including "Low," "Never Again" and "Wash, Rinse, Repeat," which breaks new ground by not going after a lover, but a songwriter who did her wrong .
The ladies don't have a lockdown on songs seeking payback, but two of the all-time greats are Carly Simon's biting "You're So Vain," which has kept listeners guessing for decades about the subject of the line, "You're so vain/ I bet you think this song is about you." The other is Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know," which strikes out bitterly at an ex (allegedly "Full House" actor Dave Coulier) with the lines, "I'm here to remind you/ Of the mess you left when you went away/ It's not fair to deny me/ Of the cross I bear that you gave to me." Taylor Swift has also made a career out of (almost) naming names, writing derisive songs about her former loves and then sometimes letting it slip in interviews who she was aiming at.
And then there's Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," a sparkling pop tune so catchy it almost makes you forget that he's dissing the groupies who'd hounded him for years during his time in the Jackson 5. Though he later said there wasn't a real Billie Jean, the song's refrain is a model for getting the last word with the lines, "Billie Jean is not my lover/ She's just a girl who claims that I am the one/ But the kid is not my son."

Band is the model of professionalism after an on-stage mishap.
By Gil Kaufman
Foster the People's Marc Foster in the "Houdini" music videoSingers have taken the stage with sore throats, broken feet and all manner of cuts, scrapes and bruises, both mental and physical. But after surviving a high-speed car chase in their "Don't Stop" clip, when the time came for Foster the People to suit up for the video for "Houdini", the fourth single from their smash debut album, Torches, they decided to show just how dedicated they are to going on with the show.
Just seconds into the clip directed by Daniels (The Shins, Chromeo), a lighting rig crushes the band's members the day before a major gig. That doesn't wash with a mysterious businessman, who shows up on set determined to see that the concert goes off, no matter what. His minions slap corsets on the boys and lash them to men in black body suits who stand behind them and manipulate their arms and heads as if the pop trio were human marionettes.
With a snap of his fingers, the businessman gets the lights turned off and, what do you know? The boys are actually pretty awesome dancers. The crew rejoices and we quickly learn that in a "West World"-like reveal that the band is made up of cyborgs.
Actually it's kind of hard to know what exactly is going on, but the fellas are somehow rebooted and able to pull off the sold-out show the next night, bringing tears to the eyes of their crew. Oh, and they also have superpowers that allow them to hop way up in the air and dance like pros. But, by the end they are either so wiped out, or their batteries are so depleted, that they crash on the couch backstage as everyone celebrates their triumph around them.
The video comes one year after the release of Torches and a month before FTP prepare to launch their summer tour on May 29. The outing includes three sold-out nights in New York's Central Park, where they will play to more than 17,000 fans, as well as a first-ever trip to the Bonnaroo Arts and Music Festival. After playing alongside the reunited Beach Boys at this year's Grammys, they will hook up with the legendary beach pop group on two of their summer dates.

We count down the boys' silliest moments from Tuesday's 'MTV First: The Wanted.'

The Wanted's Jay McGuiness and Max George
Photo: MTV NewsThe Wanted sat down with MTV News during their "MTV First" Tuesday night to open up about their just-released U.S. debut EP, as well as their brand-new music video for "Chasing the Sun."
In between more serious chatter about the vampire-themed clip and wanting to work with pals Justin Bieber and Chris Brown on new music, they also got into some shenanigans and made some unusual confessions. So here are their five silliest moments from "MTV First." Be warned, one includes milk chugging — like the actual chugging of milk.
Jay McGuiness Loves Milk ... A Lot
During the interview, one young lady was wondering if Jay could break his personal best milk-chugging time of 4.2 seconds. Well, lucky for the world, Sway had milk on hand. Jay happily obliged, pouring the milk into a pint glass and downing it. Did he break the record? Why yes. He managed to drink it all in the blink-and-you'll-miss-it speed of 3.7 seconds. How'd Jay feel about it? He just kind of shrugged off the accomplishment.Welcome to America
The guys are conquering America one girl at a time, so when they were asked to name their favorite state in the union, the guys may have revealed that they don't know as much about U.S. geography as they thought. "Is New York a state?" Tom Parker wondered. "Like New York, N.Y.?"Nathan Sykes Gets an Awesome Birthday Present
It's not always easy being the youngest guy in the band, but Nathan's bandmates tried to make him feel a little older than his 19 years when he celebrated his birthday. "It's got its perks. ... I think I'm quiet at times, but then the older ones try and mislead me and ruin my life like taking me to the Playboy Mansion for my 19th. I didn't know we were actually going, and then we pulled in. And then literally it is how it is in the movies. What I meant is it's like a film set."Max George Loves Sharks
When the guys were asked what superpowers they'd like, they had pretty standard-issues answers. But Max revealed that his power would have nothing to do with X-ray vision or mind reading: "I'd be able to breathe underwater so I can swim with sharks ... for weeks."The Guys Think They Can Dance
"I hate you so much right now," Jay declared when asked by a young fan to dance. "We were out in the club, and it was quite late and as we only had a few minutes left to get successful with any ladies, Max decided to try dancing to snare one, and this is what he decided to do." His move? He put his arms out and then wiggled, as displayed by Tom. "It's quite embarrassing," Max later confessed. "I've retired from doing that."Stick with MTV News as we roll out more from our exclusive interview with the Wanted! And don't forget to vote for them in our Battle of the Boy Bands. Переслать - Kanye West, Kid Cudi Working On Video Project In Middle East?
Sources say Kanye is filming 'top-secret' project in Qatar.

Kanye West
Photo: Getty ImagesKanye West and Kid Cudi seem to be up to something. The two are rumored to be shooting a video project in the Middle East, in Qatar.
Kanye and a film crew were spotted in the nation late last week, outside the capital of Doha in Education City. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the country's Doha Film Institute is helping back the project. And according to student sightings, Kanye, along with desert animals like camels, was spotted on set. Other sources say that locals were used as extras and that they were dressed in a "culturally sensitive" manner.
A source said that the project will be similar to Yeezy's 2010 short film, "Runaway," which was released in the lead-up to his album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
"It's going to be approximately 30 minutes long, in between a long-form music video and short film," the source said. "Kanye conceived the story, which is set in the Gulf. It's supposed to showcase the beauty of the region, a piece that's culturally sensitive and embraces the customs and traditions of the region."
Further information about Cudi's role in the flick wasn't given, which seems to be the way the rapper wants it. An eyewitness told the Doha News that "the whole thing was pretty top-secret."
The video shoot comes as fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music compilation, which may coincide with the release of this super-secret short film. And with Kid Cudi appearing on the album, it would make sense for the two to be doing something together.
While there is still no release date for the G.O.O.D. album, Mannie Fresh shared that it's all "pretty close" to finished. "The cool thing about G.O.O.D. Music is it's a bunch of great ideas and I'm one of those ideas," he explained. "[Kanye's] trying to find the most talented producers, most talented artists, put 'em all in a room and say, 'Go for it. Y'all energy, like whatever is creative to y'all.' "

Co-headlining tour kicks off August 11, and Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd is making plans for an Iron Maiden-inspired show.
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino
Chester Bennington and Brandon Boyd
Photo: MTV NewsLast week, Linkin Park not only announced the title and release date of their new album — it's called Living Things, and it's due June 26, to catch you up — but they revealed plans to co-headline this summer's Honda Civic Tour, alongside Incubus.
The trek kicks off August 11, and, somewhat unbelievably (given both acts' longevity), it'll be the first time the two bands have teamed up — though they've been kicking the idea around for a while now. Or, at least that's how LP's Chester Bennington and Incubus' Brandon Boyd remember it. Though, to be fair, their memories aren't exactly crystal-clear.
"I remember Mike Shinoda had run into Mike [Einziger] from Incubus, and off the cuff said, 'Yeah, we should go out, do a big tour together,' but whether or not that was the beginning phase of doing this, I'm not sure — it could have been eight months ago, I don't know, time to me is kind of weird," Bennington laughed. "But we'd been talking about doing something really great in the U.S. and going out with another really amazing band that does very well on their own, and that's how this came about. And luckily, for the first time in our careers, we'll have the chance to get to know each other. I think a lot of people just sort of assume we all hang out together."
"Yeah, people think rockers just hang out together. Like we meet at 'rock bars' or something," Boyd added. "This tour is just going to be the beginning. We're going to start a comedy troupe next."
And if they're really considering going Groundlings once the Honda Civic Tour wraps, well, Incubus are already taking appropriately hilarious steps by tapping into the gaudy, bong-glazed glory of Iron Maiden's set designs. At least, that's if Maiden are willing to play ball.
"We've been trying for many, many years — and I'm actually not joking right now, I'm really serious — to borrow Iron Maiden's set from [the] Seventh Son of a Seventh Son [Tour]," Boyd said. "They always had the coolest, raddest productions, with Stonehenge-type things and giant walking zombies and stairs and pyramids you can climb. They have all that stuff in storage, and our production manager worked with them years ago, so every time before we go do a tour, he asks if we could borrow some of their sets. Imagine coming onto a stage out of one of the Pyramids of Giza, with smoke coming out of it and a giant walking zombie going 'Ha ha ha ... keep rocking, Brandon. Keep on rocking, Chester.' "
"That would be so rad. That makes me excited. I wanna see that," Bennington laughed. "The thought of you running around in, like, dragon pants, or maybe flying like Bruce Dickinson. I'm totally ready for this tour to start now."

'He's not the servant that he was in the radio series,' producer Jerry Bruckheimer tells MTV News about Depp's character in Disney film.

Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/ Getty ImagesDon't let the title deceive you: "The Lone Ranger" is all about Tonto.
Well, perhaps the movie isn't all about Johnny Depp's wildly imagined Native American hero, but he'll certainly be at the forefront of the upcoming Disney blockbuster from director Gore Verbinski. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told MTV News as much at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, revealing that while "The Lone Ranger" is heavily focused on the masked gunslinger (Armie Hammer), Depp's Tonto will play a pivotal role in relating that story.
"It's him telling the story of the Lone Ranger. ... It's his voice," Bruckheimer explained of how Depp's Tonto steps into the spotlight of the story. "He's not the servant that he was in the radio series and television series. He's quite a different character."
Even if Tonto weren't at the center of the film, the visuals of the character alone would make him impossible to ignore. Depp recently spoke at length about why his Tonto looks the way he does, saying he drew inspiration from a Kirby Sattler painting.
"I think Johnny creating that character, he did it on his own," Bruckheimer told us. "He went out with his makeup people and found an iconic image that he loved and created it for himself. He did the makeup, showed me a picture and said, 'Let's go make this movie.' It just took a while to convince Disney to go make it!"
Indeed, not long ago, "The Lone Ranger" very nearly rode off into the sunset before it even got on the horse, when Disney threatened to pull the plug due to budget concerns. Those issues were ultimately ironed out, and "Lone Ranger" will ride on with a huge scope intact, budget cuts be damned.
"Minor things [were cut], nothing anybody will miss," Bruckheimer said about how the cuts affected the film. "The whole wonderful train sequences are still there. It's a big movie. It really is.
"It has some fantasy elements in it. It's grounded, but there are spiritual elements to it," the producer continued about the film's tone. "It's its own thing. It certainly has elements of humor, which Gore brings to everything he does, and great action as well. It's kind of like 'The Odd Couple' meets 'The Wild Bunch.' "
Of course, the reteaming of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trio of Verbinski, Depp and Bruckheimer begs the question: Will we see "The Lone Ranger" ride again in future movies? Bruckheimer wasn't sure if this film would launch a franchise or not, but he admitted that he "didn't know 'Pirates' was going to be a franchise" either.
"Hopefully this one's going to work, and if they allow us to make more, we'll make more," he said.
Check out everything we've got on "The Lone Ranger."

Переслать - Exclusive: Mila Kunis Confirms Role In Wachowskis' 'Jupiter Ascending'
'I love them!' the actress says about filmmakers Andy and Lana Wachowski.

Mila Kunis at CinemaCon 2012
Photo: Getty ImagesAfter filmmakers Andy and Lana Wachowski tackle the ambitious task of turning "Cloud Atlas" — a hulking novel taking place in six separate time periods from the 19th century to a post-apocalyptic, virtually-technology free future — into a feature film, the siblings will direct "Jupiter Ascending." While all involved are tight-lipped on the sci-fi flick's plot, we learned back in March that Warner Bros., the studio behind the project, offered lead roles to Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.
On Tuesday evening (April 24) at CinemaCon, Kunis herself confirmed that she'll star in the film, exclusively giving MTV News' Josh Horowitz the scoop. Before he could even finish his question regarding whether the rumors are true and whether she's read a script, Kunis nodded her head and blurted out, "Yes."
"I love them!" she said about the Wachowskis.
When Horowitz joked, "Thanks for spilling all the beans on that one," Kunis laughed and responded, "Listen, I told you I'm doing it. That's the most I've told anybody."
When Deadline Hollywood first broke the news of the film, they described it as the Wachowskis' "first major science fiction action franchise play since 'The Matrix,' " which hopefully means audiences will be treated to a series of movies.
While 2012 seems to be the year of Channing Tatum, with hits like "The Vow," "21 Jump Street" and the upcoming summer films "Magic Mike" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," Kunis also has a full cinematic plate. She stars in the raunchy comedy "Ted" and the "Wizard of Oz" prequel "Oz: The Great and Powerful," which stars James Franco, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz.
"Jupiter Ascending" is set to hit theaters in 2014.

James Franco
Photo: Neilson Barnard/ Getty ImagesJames Franco recently made headlines when he posted a video of himself singing Rihanna's Dr. Luke joint "You Da One" on the Internet. The clip was short, sweet and a bit out of nowhere.
But if you think that Franco was in one of his performance-art moments when he created the viral video, think again. It turns out he's just a fan of the colorful singer. "[It] didn't take a lot of work [to lip-synch to her song]," he confessed to MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday. "But I do like Rihanna."
In fact, his biggest confession about his connection to the singer came next. It seems the two were thisclose to working together on her 2011 "We Found Love" video. As the story goes, before male model Dudley O'Shaughnessy landed the role as Ri's troubled leading man, Franco had the opportunity to be cast as one-half of that rocky romance.
"She actually asked me to be in that video, the one with the relationship that gets crazy," he dished. "I couldn't do it. But, I guess, I hope that that means there's mutual love between us."
Well, apparently these two are getting a second chance to work together, and this time it's on the big screen. Franco teased that Rihanna may appear in pal Seth Rogen's flick "The Apocalypse," which follows a slew of celebs playing themselves. They're partying at Franco's house when they learn the apocalypse is coming.
"I think she's gonna be in the new movie that I'm doing, Seth Rogen's directorial debut," he shared. "I think she has a little part in that."

"I feel more beautiful than I've ever felt because I've given birth," Beyoncé told the magazine. "I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth."
Beyoncé continues to gush about her baby girl, saying, "She's just the cutest thing," adding that she makes up songs to sing just to Blue Ivy. When asked which of her parents the baby resembles more, B responded, "She looks like Blue. She's her own person."
