- Will 'Avengers' Be The Year's Biggest Blockbuster?
Box-office expert looks at possible competition from 'Dark Knight Rises,' 'Amazing Spider-Man' and more.
By Kara Warner

Photo: Marvel StudiosNow that so many of us have seen "Marvel's The Avengers" and helped make it this summer's box-office blockbuster to beat, it's time to look ahead at the rest of the season's cinematic offerings to see which tentpole has the power to compete with Earth's mightiest heroes.
The likeliest contender competing for some of the "Avengers"-size box-office haul is "The Dark Knight Rises," Christopher Nolan's dark, brooding, third and supposedly final Batman movie. Other buzz-worthy potential moneymakers to keep an eye on are Ridley Scott's "Alien"-esque prequel "Prometheus," Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man," Rupert Sanders' "Snow White and the Huntsman" and Barry Sonnenfeld's "Men in Black 3."
To be fair, the "Avengers" haul is going to be very difficult to duplicate, particularly the record-breaking opening-weekend take of $207.1 million, which beat the $169.2 million set by previous champ "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," MTV News consulted Boxoffice.com editor Phil Contrino for his wisdom on the subject and to see if any other summer fare has a chance at besting the records set by "Avengers."
"I don't think anything other than 'Dark Knight Rises' can pull it off," Contrino said. "With 'Spider-Man,' every time a franchise is rebooted, it takes a while for the fans to dip their toes in the water and get a feel for it. 'Spider-Man' will be the same thing, maybe worse, because it's so close to the [release] of the original. 'X-Men: First Class' and even 'Batman Begins' didn't open to huge numbers, and a lot of people forget that. 'Prometheus' is [rated] R. For an R-rated movie to do $200 million would be something really monumental, almost impossible, I think."
Contrino went on to say that "Dark Knight Rises" has a couple of factors that will prevent it from catching "Avengers," but that it does have a chance of besting the #2 best opening-weekend gross set by "Deathly Hallows, Part 2."
"It's not in 3-D, so it doesn't have the bonus financial boost, and it's not nearly as family-friendly; it's dark and broody. Disney did a good job of turning 'Avengers' into a family-friendly movie. I think that's ultimately what pushed it as far as it's gone," Contrino said. "I don't see anything else this summer beating it."

The Weekly Rising takes a closer look at the comic inspiration for Christopher Nolan's final Batman film.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
Batman #497: The breaking of the Bat
Photo: DC ComicsThroughout his tenure as the commander of the big-screen Batman, Christopher Nolan, along with writing partners Jonathan Nolan and David S. Goyer, have pulled selectively from the vast library of books for inspiration in the films. "Batman Begins" borrowed a handful of elements from Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One," while "The Dark Knight" took some character notes from "The Long Halloween."
When it was announced that Bane would make his triumphant return as a respectable villain in the finale, "The Dark Knight Rises," comic books fans were just as quick to shout "Knightfall," in reference to the trilogy of stories that played out during 1993 and 1994. It appeared Nolan and company had found their inspiration, but what exactly would they use from those books?
Bane
The masked villain was the clear giveaway to "Knightfall" 's presence as an influence, and it's clear why. Bane only showed up on the DC Comics scene four months before the beginning of the "Knightfall" story line, and once the show got on the road, he made his introduction count. As he appears to be in "The Dark Knight Rises," the Bane of the comics was a hyper-intelligent behemoth of a man, capable of besting Bruce Wayne.Prison Break
Part of Bane's plan in gaining the upper hand over Batman involved releasing all of Arkham Asylum's worst inmates on the city. Batman wears himself down, rounding up the likes of the Joker, the Scarecrow and Poison Ivy, and this series of bouts leaves him severely weakened when he finally has to face off against Bane in the Batcave, leading to the most significant scene from "Knightfall."The Break
If Bane is remembered for anything, it is the central moment of "Knightfall" when he takes a physically and mentally exhausted Bruce Wayne and breaks his back with a knee to the spine. It was a critical blow in more than one sense of the word and significantly changed the shape of the Batman titles for years to come. The scant footage we have actually seen from "The Dark Knight Rises" hints that Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne does suffer some similar injury during the course of the film. He appears to be walking with a cane, and while we can't conclusively blame Bane, the timing sure is something!Catwoman
Selina Kyle's appearance in both "Knightfall" and "The Dark Knight Rises" most likely is a coincidence, since her role in the former is not terribly significant. It does matter, however, that she attempts to help Bruce Wayne with his paralysis, demonstrating that there are many facets to her allegiances. The New Batman
While Bruce Wayne was on the mend thanks to Bane's handiwork, a new Batman, Jean-Paul Valley, took up the cowl in his absence. Since the tag line of "The Dark Knight Rises" leaves little doubt that the "legend ends" with this final movie, fans have been pondering whether the new film will mean the death of Bruce Wayne. If that's the case, the symbol would have to live on. A new Dark Knight would have to rise.Check out everything we've got on "The Dark Knight Rises."

Переслать - Kristen Stewart Recalls 'Insane' Nudity In 'On The Road'
'Twilight' actress tells MTV News she thinks people are being 'a little uptight' about the film's sex scenes.
By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Kristen Stewart
Photo: MTV NewsFor "Twilight" fans who thought the sex scene in "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" were revealing, Kristen Stewart hasn't showed you anything yet. When Stewart hits the big screen again in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's American classic "On the Road," she'll be revealing a lot more than skimpy lingerie. The film contains quite a few sex scenes, including a threesome between Stewart and co-stars Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley. Talk about risqué!
"I wasn't scared, honestly," Stewart said in reference to the love scenes. "It's kind of insane to watch now. I'm like, 'Who is that?' But I think — as every actress says when they do this is — it just felt so right. It was so within a different world and so within a different environment that I don't even really feel — I mean, I am personally connected to it, of course — but it is something outside of myself."
The film follows young drifters Dean Moriarty and his best friend Sal Paradise as the epitome of the Beat Generation. After Sal's father dies, the duo embarks on a trip across America with Dean's wife Marylou, a 16-year-old with an affinity for marijuana and sex.
The actress revealed that although her character is sexually promiscuous, the role didn't bother her. "I have kind of no qualms about it either," she said. "I think people are a little uptight."
The starlet believes she felt comfortable in part due to director Walter Salles. "I felt so safe with Walter," she revealed. "Nothing was ever, ever about taking your clothes off."
Stewart's film will debut at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival along with her boyfriend Robert Pattinson's "Cosmopolis." When asked if there was a little healthy competition between her and her "Twilight" co-star, the actress said it's definitely there even though she hasn't been able to see his film yet.
"It's such weird timing. I think if it was us or them. I think we'd take the cake," the actress joked. "I haven't seen 'Cosmopolis' yet. I'm dying to see it. The first time I get to see it is actually in Cannes."
So, whose film will be better?
"Mine," Stewart said before breaking into a laugh.

'Breath of Life' clip features Florence Welch recording the epic song at London's iconic Abbey Road Studios.
By James Montgomery
Florence Welch records "Breath of Life"
Photo: Universal/ Island RecordsWhen Florence Welch spoke to MTV News back in March about recording "Breath of Life" — her single off the "Snow White and the Huntsman" soundtrack — she couldn't hide her excitement about writing an anthem from the perspective of Charlize Theron's Evil Queen Ravenna ... or getting to spend the day working with a 60-person choir in London's historic Abbey Road Studios.
"It was amazing to see the music we played being turned into this amazing orchestral thing," the Florence and the Machine frontwoman gushed. "You feel in a bit of a way like you're kind of making it up as you go along, and then when you see it done, laid out before you in such a beautiful, orchestral fashion, it's really incredible.
"And then we all went into Abbey Road and it was one of the best days of my life," she continued. "I love choirs and I love choral music, and there was a 60-piece choir singing the vocal parts that I had written. When the baritones came in, I nearly wept, it was so emotional."
So it's somewhat fitting that the video for "Breath of Life," which premiered Monday (May 14), documents that day in the studio (there's no weeping, however). Shot in arty black-and-white, and implemented with bonus battle footage from the film itself (plus plenty of scenes of Queen Ravenna's quest for youth), the clip showcases Welch belting out the tune, backed by a booming orchestra and a keening chorus. And much like the song, it packs a punch.
You can practically feel Welch's emotion as she brings "Breath" to life, and for a song so massive, the video provides viewers with a rather intimate look into its creation. Combine that with the fact that the clip — and the song — perfectly match the film's epic, ethereal scope, and the anticipation to see the final product only grows. The "Avengers" can assemble all they want ... with "Breath of Life," Welch and "Snow White" pack more power than anything in Iron Man's arsenal.

Actor tells MTV News his character Heimdall will be 'more involved' in the sequel.
By Kevin P. SullivanA movie like "The Avengers" doesn't just make $1 billion in a little less than 20 days without having a few sequels already in the pipeline. So, of course, the folks over at Marvel are already hard at work on a handful of follow-ups, including "Thor 2."
MTV News spoke with Idris Elba while he was promoting Prometheus" about reprising his role as the Asgardian gatekeeper, Heimdall, for the sequel, once again starring Chris Hemsworth in the title role. "Thor 2," which is scheduled to head into production later this year, is said to explore the other realms of the universe, outside of Asgard and Earth, so that would mean a heavier workload for Heimdall.
Though production has not officially begun, Elba has already started some prep. "I'm actually excited about it," he said. "I literally just did a costume fitting the other day."
Elba, who has only seen an outline of the story so far, said that he does anticipate a larger role for Heimdall in the sequel, but added that "Thor 2" will also be taking a closer look at the people who populate the mythical world. "Definitely Heimdall's more involved, but also, what's more involved is who the Asgardians are," he said. "I think we'll see a sense of that."
As past interviews with the cast have indicated, the scale of "Thor 2" is quite large, but Elba suggested that the focus narrows in on character in a way we haven't seen before. "It's a huge film, 'Thor 2,' but I also think it's micro in a way that you start to look at people, who they are a little bit more."

Переслать - Ashton Kutcher Spotted In Steve Jobs Costume
Following skepticism about Kutcher's ability to pull off playing Apple founder, photos of the actor in costume have surfaced.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
Ashton Kutcher
Photo: Dr. Billy Ingram/ WireImageIt may have been difficult to picture practical joker Ashton Kutcher portraying Steve Jobs after it was announced he would lead an upcoming biopic about the former Apple innovator. Some comparison photos certainly helped, but now TMZ has the first shots of Kutcher in full Jobs regalia, mock turtleneck and all.
The paparazzi snapped a few pictures of Kutcher outside of a Starbucks in what is reportedly his full costume for the tentatively titled movie "Jobs: Get Inspired." In addition to the signature black mock turtleneck, Kutcher is wearing loose-fitting jeans and cross trainers, an outfit anyone familiar with Jobs would recognize as his style.
Kutcher joined the film back in April to a decidedly mixed response, but after a comparison image with side-by-side photos of a long-haired Kutcher and Jobs from the 1970s started to pop up on the Web, the resemblance was hard to deny.
Directed by "Swing Vote" helmer Joshua Michael Stern, "Jobs" will examine the Apple founder's life and innovations from the 1970s to the end of the 20th century. "Book of Mormon" breakout Josh Gad signed on a few weeks after Kutcher to play Jobs' partner and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.
The role comes at a tumultuous time for Kutcher. After a very public breakup from wife Demi Moore, Kutcher stirred controversy twice with comments made about former Penn State coach Joe Paterno's firing and, more recently, a Pop Chips ad that featured the actor made up to appear Indian and adopting a mock accent.
"Jobs" is set to be released sometime next year.

Переслать - J.J. Abrams Drama, Mindy Kaling Comedy Rule Fall TV Lineup
As major networks announce their programming, MTV News picks the shows that will have you glued to the screen.
By Fallon Prinzivalli
Mindy Kaling
Photo: Getty ImagesMay is the month that has television fans rejoicing or mourning as TV networks, at their upfront presentations, announce which shows are being picked up, which are being renewed and which are getting the ax. The fall lineup looks particularly interesting as Deadline reports what's in store for CBS, the CW, Fox and NBC. From a "Sex and the City" prequel to a daring dystopian drama from J.J. Abrams, we've picked the shows that'll have us glued to our small screens for their debuts come the fall.
The first show on our list is "Partners," based on the real-life friendship of a straight guy and a gay man. The series will star Michael Urie of "Ugly Betty," Sophia Bush of "One Tree Hill," David Krumholtz and Brandon Routh. CBS picked up the comedy along with "Friend Me," a show following Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Nicholas Braun as two best friends who move from Bloomington, Indiana, to Los Angeles to begin their new jobs at Groupon. Even though this sounds heavily like the male version of "2 Broke Girls," Mintz-Plasse's work in "Superbad" and "Kick-Ass" has us interested in the pilot.
One of the reigning networks in teen television, the CW, picked up the highly anticipated "Sex and the City" prequel, "The Carrie Diaries." The show centers on a young Carrie Bradshaw navigating the ups and downs of high school in the 1980s (and always looking fabulous while doing so). Along with Miss Bradshaw, the channel also chose "Arrow," based on DC Comics' "Green Arrow." The series will turn the protagonist into less of a superhero and more of an action star in the same vein as Jason Bourne. And although the CW canceled "Ringer" and "The Secret Circle," the network picked up "Gossip Girl" for its final season. Maybe this will prompt Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf into a final romance? We can only hope!
Over in Fox-land, they've renewed hit shows "Glee," "Fringe" and "The X Factor" as well as the breakout series "New Girl." Added to the lineup is "The Mindy Project," a single-camera comedy by Mindy Kaling following a woman's anxious attempt to rid herself of all her bad habits. "After all, how many doctors make inappropriate toasts at their ex-boyfriend's wedding, nearly drown at the bottom of a stranger's pool and get arrested for disorderly conduct just moments before having to deliver a baby?" Deadline asks when describing the show.
Apparently, not enough — we'll be watching! Also chosen by the network is "The Goodwin Games," centering on three grown siblings who return home following their father's death. When they're made aware of their unexpected $20 million inheritance, they must go through a series of tasks their father left behind before they can claim their money. So no, folks, there won't be blood; this isn't a small-screen take on "The Hunger Games."
But speaking of dystopian dramas, after renewing veteran comedy "The Office" and the popular reality series "The Voice," NBC picked up a new series produced by J.J. Abrams called "Revolution." The show centers on the world 15 years after the electricity is mysteriously shut off and families are living quiet lives aided by candlelight and lanterns. When one young woman's father is murdered by the militia, she sets off on a journey with two unlikely companions to discover what happened in the past and how to retrieve their lost future. Do you think this is all Dharma's fault?

Переслать - 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Fans Cast Lead Roles At E L James' Book Signing
From Ryan Reynolds to Alexis Bledel, book's fans tell MTV News who they think should play the famous S&M couple in movie version.
By Fallon Prinzivalli
E L James at the "50 Shades Of Grey" Q&A in New York City
Photo: Getty ImagesNEW YORK — Film adaptations of beloved novels never cease to cause frenzy among fans as to which actors deserve which roles. We saw it with "Twilight" and, more recently, with "The Hunger Games." And E L James' popular book "Fifty Shades of Grey" is no different. When the author made her way into New York's Union Square for a book signing at Barnes & Noble, MTV News was on the scene to witness readers avidly campaigning for who they'd like to see land the lead roles.
"Personally, I want Christian Bale to play Christian Grey because of his experience with 'American Psycho,' " one fan told us. "I feel like he could be perfect. Some people think he's too old, but this is Hollywood — we could fix that. You know, we can give him some laser, minimize some fine lines, he's good to go. He's the one. I want that one."
The rights to the New York Times best-seller were optioned by Universal Pictures and Focus Features back in March, which is when casting rumors began to swirl. The interest has yet to die down as both Ian Somerhalder and Alexander Skarsgård expressed interest in the role of Christian. One fan agrees with the latter choice, saying, "In the movie I would want to see, in the role of Christian, at least — I think that's the one where I really have a preference — I would love to see Alexander Skarsgård."
Other actors mentioned were Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds for the titillating male lead and Alexis Bledel for the female heroine. And while it's doubtful that "Twilight" veterans Kristen Stewart and will play the couple — even though "Fifty Shades" was originally written as "Twilight" fan fiction — one fan is hanging on to hope that the actor behind Edward Cullen is cast. "[I would cast] Robert Pattinson," she said. "For the simple fact that he was intense in his last movie with Bella. I haven't really seen many more actors bring out a scene with that intensity."
With the popularity of the novel, it's likely the casting director would want to work with relatively unknown actors to bring the characters to life. If that's the case, one fan is really rooting for her favorite Cuban dancer. "William Levy — he's currently on 'Dancing With the Stars.' Oh my gosh, he totally is Christian Grey. And as Ana I see Leelee Sobieski ['Glass House,' 'Joy Ride']. I think she would be a very good Ana Steele," she said.
But whoever is chosen to play the literary world's current hottest couple, one reader voiced every fan's main concern: "[Christian] better be good and hot."
Which actors do you think should play the leads in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie? Tell us in the comments.

Переслать - 'Game Of Thrones' Has No Honor
Burning kids, breaking vows and snapping necks are the topics of conversation on this week's 'Thrones.'
By Josh Wigler
Alfie Allen in "Game of Thrones"
Photo: HBOIs there such a thing as going too far on "Game of Thrones"? Just ask the charred toddler hanging on the walls of Winterfell — he'll have an answer, I'm sure.
Season two has already seen no fewer than four of its currently aired seven episodes conclude with the death of a child in increasingly brutal fashion. And "A Man Without Honor" — the 17th hour of the series — was perhaps the cruelest of the bunch, thanks to Theon Greyjoy. Not quite the boy-monster that Joffrey is, Theon is definitely giving him competition for the show's Most Loathsome Villain award. Even though the golden-haired demon child sat out of this week's outing entirely (ironic, given the title of the episode), Joffrey's presence hung heavily through Sansa and Cersei, both of whom are afraid of the boy king, but for very different reasons.
Oh, and did we mention that a certain little kingslayer made his ugly comeback this week? Learn all about that and more in the rest of our "Game of Thrones" recap.
Better to Be Cruel Than Weak
If Theon is truly lost, then he's finding his way back to himself through fire and blood, just like Dany. Unlike Dany, his version of "fire and blood" includes murdering innocent children to further his own agenda. Theon has very clearly lost it at this point. In addition to slaying kids who may or may not be Bran and Rickon (you know the rule of fiction, guys — unless you see a character die, they're never really dead), he's taken to physically harming every single person who opposes him. Poor Ser Rodrik was just the tip of the iceberg. You Know Nothing, Jon Snow
North of Winterfell and well beyond the Wall, the crow Jon Snow and the wildling girl Ygritte are having themselves a grand old time. Well, not grand, but certainly sexually charged. It's funny to see someone speak in such a way to Jon. He's not the man of the Night's Watch he thinks he is, not in Ygritte's eyes; to her, he's just "a boy who's never been with a girl." She's not wrong, really. But all of that might change now that the roles have reversed and Jon's become Ygritte's captive. Also, fans of the books, were you as psyched as I was to hear Ygritte spit out her most famous line to Jon? We'll be hearing plenty more "you know nothings" as the season progresses, I bet.The Lion King and the Wolf Girl
If the Emmys had a Best Onscreen Duo award, I'd make a strong case for Charles Dance and Maisie Williams. Their scenes as Tywin and Arya in the ruins of Harrenhal are swiftly becoming the best scenes of the season. Some out-of-context dialogue highlights: "This will be my last war, win or lose." "Do you think I'd be in this position if I'd lost a war?" "Careful now, girl. I enjoy you, but be careful." "You're too smart for your own good. Has anyone told you that?" Dance and Williams just clearly get a kick out of each other, and their chemistry is infectious. Great stuff.Love Your Children
Down south in King's Landing, there's no sight of Joffrey Baratheon, yet the Lannister-in-stag's-clothing remains a hot topic for his surrounding court. Sansa Stark makes the bloody discovery that she's now able to bear Joff's children, a realization that she unsuccessfully tries to keep from Queen Cersei. Surprisingly, when giving Sansa advice, Cersei doesn't even really recommend that Sansa work towards falling in love with Joffrey some day — "You can try," she says skeptically, but her real advice is to "love no one but your children." She's having trouble listening to her own words, as Joffrey's continued cruelty pushes the Lannister matriarch further and further away from her son.Uniquely Unfit for Constraint
In further Lannister news, "A Man Without Honor" saw the not-so-triumphant return of Jaime Lannister for the first time since the season premiere. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau stole the show this episode, as he tends to do whenever he's onscreen. But I'm glad it's taken us this long to see him again — absence makes the heart grow fonder, even if a murderous prison escape makes it grow a little firmer in the end. Aside from seeing Jaime again, the Stark Camp story reached some other notable moments that should have fans of the books grinning: the furious introduction of Rickard Karstark, the developing creepiness of Roose Bolton, and the first mention of the MIA Barristan Selmy in what feels like ages. Yeah, remember that guy? Got a funny feeling we'll see that bold warrior again soon. ...Undying Love
Finishing up all the way in Essos, we return to the plot point that's got my head spinning most: Qarth. So, Xaro Xhoan Daxos is in cahoots with the warlocks of the House of the Undying to kill the rest of the Thirteen and become the king of the greatest city that ever was or will be? And they took Dany's dragons, pretty much just to prove a point? Needless to say, these are more things that never happened in George R.R. Martin's novels. And once again, not sure what to think about all of these alterations, except that I think they're way too melodramatic for melodrama's sake. That said, while I'm not a fan of where the story's gone, there's no denying that Ian Hanmore is thoroughly disturbing as blue-lipped baldy Pyat Pree, and the potential for an incredibly unsettling House of the Undying scene is certainly there. In Previous "Game of Thrones" News ...

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's 'Dark Shadows' debuts at a distant #2.

Photo: MarvelThe Avengers isn't the only club to count Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the rest of the crew as members. Earth's Mightiest Heroes joined the $1 billion club over the weekend, shattering more box-office records and collecting enough cash to put it just behind "Alice in Wonderland" on the all-time worldwide gross list. "Dark Shadows," Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton's first collaboration since "Alice," settled for a distant #2 debut.
"The Avengers" reached the $1 billion mark as quickly as "Avatar" and the last "Harry Potter" movie, despite opening earlier overseas than in America. Marvel's action-packed tentpole (which unites several of their heroes) already broke the all-time opening weekend record when it opened last weekend, and with its $103.2 million estimated domestic gross this weekend, "The Avengers" is now the record holder for the biggest second-weekend number too. Thanks to its $628.9 million 19-day international haul, "The Avengers" is now one of only 11 movies to climb past the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Marvel's first movie under the Disney umbrella benefited from its comic book origins, repeat viewings, a positively reviewed story from director/co-writer Joss Whedon and the combined star power of folks like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson. Truthfully, "Dark Shadows" never stood a chance. The eighth collaboration between Depp and Burton — a campy take on a decades-old low-budget vampire soap opera — made $28.8 million domestically during its first weekend in theaters. By comparison, Depp and Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" opened with $116.1 million two years ago.
"Think Like a Man," which previously enjoyed two weekends atop the box office prior to the arrival of "The Avengers," was #3 over the weekend with $6.3 million. Based on the self-help book from comedian Steve Harvey, "Think" has earned $81.9 million against a reported budget of just $12 million. "The Hunger Games" was #4 with $4.4 million, for a domestic total of $386.9 million. "The Lucky One" was #5 with $4.1 million for a $53.7 million total.
Fox Searchlight's "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" did well with a modest expansion in theater counts, generating a healthy $2.7 million in 178 locations. "Girl in Progress" debuted with $1.4 million in 322 locations. Oscar winner "The Artist" went through one more expansion, in an apparent attempt to cash in on the Mother's Day holiday, but failed to generate new buzz with a paltry $214 per screen average.
Next weekend, Sacha Baron Cohen will go up against "The Avengers" in his role as a fictitious world leader in "The Dictator." The big-budget action flick "Battleship" will also arrive as well as a bit of counter-programming in the form of "What to Expect When You're Expecting," featuring an ensemble that includes Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks and Anna Kendrick.

'All I've heard is that it's very scandalous, to say the least,' Dobrev tells MTV News of the best-selling book.
By Jocelyn VenaNina Dobrev hasn't read the best-selling "Fifty Shades of Grey" just yet, but with every young starlet's name floating around as a possible contender for the female lead, literature student Anastasia Steele, she might want to start reading up.
"All I've heard is that it's very scandalous, to say the least," the "Vampire Diaries" star told MTV News. "I haven't read it, but who knows? I mean, well, I guess we'll have to see."
Fans of the erotic trilogy might not mind seeing Dobrev get her S&M on with her "Diaries" co-star Ian Somerhalder in the big-screen adaptation of the E L James book. But she confessed that if she does play the part, she wouldn't want to have Somerhalder playing the millionaire beau, Christian Grey.
"I don't know if that's a good idea," she said. "I think it's best for any of the actors on the 'Vampire Diaries' to kind of do their own things ... and create new characters. And as much as you try when you shoot a movie, if it's two of the same people, the fans will always see you as ... they'll see me as Elena and they'll see him as Damon if we do a film together."
So, that means "Fifty" fans will only get either Dobrev or Somerhalder if either gets cast in the film. And Dobrev is most certainly rooting for him. "I think it would be better [if] either he should get it or I should get it," she said. "I know that apparently he's really great for the role, so I hope that he gets it."
Given how sexy the book is, casting might not be the only challenge. Some fans are wondering how they can adapt the highly charged sex scenes for an R-rated version of the film.
"Making this movie will absolutely be a challenge. It is going to take a devoted director who admittedly likes the books and understands that, first and foremost, this is a love story," Lisa Parker from FiftyShadesFilm.com told MTV News. "If telling the love story is the main focus, then we do believe the steamy sex scenes can be shot and edited in a way to get us an R-rated movie rather than NC-17 ... [the fans] are confident that Ms. James will protect the integrity of her story regardless of the ultimate rating."
