  • Peter Berg Explains The Reference To 'Battleship's' Famous Line

Spoiler alert: No one says "you sunk my battleship" in "Battleship." But director Peter Berg has a very good explanation for that. No one said it in the movie because the Regents didn't sink the Navy's battleships.

But before you get all up in arms about the omission, there is an homage to the famous admission of defeat from the Battleship pencil and paper game in the feature film. Fans just might miss it during their first go around.

"We have a version of it though. There was a reference to the line," Berg promised in a recent interview with MTV News.

According to Berg, the reference is something along the lines of, "Ain't gonna sink this battleship, no way." When asked why he didn't just say the classic line anyways, he said, "They don't sink our battleship. Sorry."

That's not to say that there never was a version of the script where "you sunk my battleship" was said. It just didn't end up working in the final cut of the film.

"We played around. I mean, we've said the line, we didn't say the line, and then I sort of had this idea that maybe we should come up with a different way of respecting the line but, you know what, they didn't sink the battleship," Berg said. "There are a lot of ways you could have done it. We chose our way."

  • 'Hyde Park On Hudson' Trailer: Bill Murray Becomes FDR

When you think of a king of England and a president of the United States your mind rarely travels to outdoor barbeques and jumping in pools, but that's just what goes on in the "Hyde Park on Hudson" trailer—and Bill Murray lights up portraying Franklin D. Roosevelt.

While the film is based around real events, we're not sure how historically accurate the movie will turn out, but watching Murray take on the charm and gentle mannerisms of America's 32nd President is a jolly ol' delight.

Check out the first trailer below, and learn more about "Hyde Park on Hudson" after the jump!

Before 1939, no reigning king of England had ever visited America. But that summer FDR and his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams) host the royals at their home in Hyde Park on Hudson, an estate in upstate New York. As war with Germany looms in the distance for Great Britain, the King is hoping the holiday will lead to the President's support. But the weekend gets a little out of hand as his loved ones conspire to make it a memorable one.

The visit is narrated by Franklin's distant cousin and cherished friend Daisy, played by Laura Linney. Through her eyes, the audience learns more than the toils of diplomacy and gets to the heart of love and friendship.

"Hyde Park on Hudson" opens in theaters on December 7.

  • 'Game Of Thrones' Preview: Behold 'Blackwater'

If you're a fan of "Game of Thrones," the photo you see below should make you very, very happy. Your mind isn't playing tricks on you: that is indeed Jerome Flynn as the sellsword Bronn, taking aim with a fire-tipped arrow at an unseen enemy with Blackwater Bay at his back. That's right: the Battle of Blackwater is on!

It's the first official photo from "Blackwater," the highly awaited episode of "Game of Thrones" season two that finally, finally, thrusts viewers into the thick of an all-out battle (as in on screen, no getting-knocked-out-and-skipping-the-fight trickery) between Joffrey's allies in King's Landing and the forces of Stannis Baratheon. "A Song of Ice and Fire" mastermind George R.R. Martin wrote the episode, only adding to the list of reasons why fans are losing their minds in anticipation of the hour.

Before we get to "Blackwater," we'll have to encounter "The Prince of Winterfell" in this Sunday night's episode — but whether we're talking about Prince Bran or "Prince" Theon is a matter of some debate. We'll certainly be tuning in either way. Here's a look at Tyrion and Varys from that episode.

  • Oliver Cooper Wants You To Help Make Him The 'Best Onscreen Dirtbag'

    Oliver Cooper

Hooray for Movie Awards season and the cutthroat competition between this year's very deserving group of nominees! And although the majority of the nominations were snagged by some popular wizards, bridesmaids and tributes, there is plenty of Movie Awards love and Golden Popcorn to go around. Kinda.

Speaking of Movie Awards love, we have to give it up to first-time nominee Oliver Cooper for putting together this very clever campaign video and Facebook page.

"These are the nominees for Best Onscreen Dirtbag, but only one of them has a proven track record as a douchebag," the ad begins. "He's been called a crude, pushy creep, and 'the most annoying movie character since Jar Jar Binks.'"

MTV News recently caught up with the Best Onscreen Dirtbag nominee to discuss his creative campaign efforts.

"I'm stoked. I'm putting all my hours in the campaign to win this Dirtbag award," Cooper said. "My strategy is to talk to as many people as I can to win this thing. I'm traveling across the country," he joked. "We don't have much money right now, I'm taking Greyhound buses to different cities telling people why I should win."

The "Project X" star went on to say that he's going for strong word of mouth, as well as a few sympathy votes.

"We're going to put up more videos and hopefully catch a following, get people onboard, who liked the movie or hated me," he said. "There are probably more people that hated me."

"I'm trying to gain as much weight, let myself go as much as possible," he continued, speaking to how he's getting ready for his big night on June 3. "I want people to really think of me as disgusting. 'God that guy is despicable. How can he possibly be in movies?'"

Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET.

  • The Rock Wraps Michael Bay's 'Pain And Gain' In Today's Twitter-Wood

There's no gain without the pain, right? Or at least that's what Michael Bay's latest project "Pain and Gain" tells us. Starring alongside Mark Wahlberg, is Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson and judging by his past career in WWE—and the fact that every single one of his muscles is probably the size of our head—he's someone we would not want to cross. Especially since one of the set photos shows him cooking a hand on a grill. Better to stay on his safe, non-Hulk-like side, no?

But that set photo is one of the last we'll see as The Rock just announced he wrapped filming in Miami today. "Pain and Gain" is a black comedy that follows a pair of bodybuilders who find themselves in an extortion ring and kidnapping plot that spirals way out of control.

When MTV News caught up with Michael Bay back in 2009 before the storyline was divulged, he said, "[It's based on] a true story, and it's very funny. It's a dark comedy." Quite a departure from his usual "Transformers" work, but since he hasn't disappointed us yet, we're having faith that the film will be highly entertaining.

Is "Pain and Gain" going to be on your list of films to see next year? Let us know in the comments and on Twitter!

  • Five Reasons To See 'Battleship'

Unless you happen to be madly in love with Taylor Kitsch or Brooklyn Decker, some of you have no doubt written "Battleship" off as a cheap imitation of "Transformers." How can an alien invasion action film based on a board game be all that entertaining, right? Well, we have a feeling you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The opening scenes between Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgård were flawlessly executed as the pair's brotherly chemistry and Kitsch's off-kilter charm win the audience over in the first few minutes. The film continues with non-stop action once the Navy hits the sea, and continues its intrigue as the movie incorporates the board game layout into the battles.

It's a summer flick that's sure to entertain, so here are our five reasons to see "Battleship."

    Because It's Wickedly Funny
From the opening of the movie to the very end, laughs reign in the film. The comedy is brought in by Kitsch's slacker persona and his interactions with Skarsgård, but the supporting cast keeps you entertained as the battle for earth heats up. In action films, humor is sometimes tossed to the wayside in favor of more explosions—don't get us wrong, there are still plenty of those—but this cast effortlessly delivers funny lines at the perfect moments.

Because There Are Tons Of Explosions
The movie is titled "Battleship." If there weren't crazy-awesome explosions, this would be a film about yahtze. We don't claim to be special effects experts, but we can certainly tell when they come off believable. From the moment Kitsch yells to Rihanna, "Light it up!" to the end when the final missiles are launched, you're sure to be entertained by the action.

    Because It's Rihanna's Acting Debut
By now you probably know that the "Talk That Talk" singer makes her acting debut. Most young stars do the reverse and start out as actors (even Justin Timberlake started out on the Mickey Mouse Club acting and singing before he joined NSYNC), but when has Rihanna ever followed a trend? As the musician continues to blow up the music charts, she lights up the screen playing a total badass handling some heavy artillery. She's the gal Hopper goes to when he needs some serious firepower and she always delivers.

Because There's A 'Friday Night Lights' Reunion
This film certainly had its own scene stealer. Kitsch's "Friday Night Lights" co-star Jesse Plemons provides a laugh almost everytime he's on camera with his facial expressions or one-liners. In the NBC series, Kitsch played Tim Riggins and Plemons was Landry Clarke. The dynamic between their characters in "Battleship" is just like their roles in "FNL." The "John Carter" actor is a self-assured captain-type with the arrogance to match and Plemons is an uncertain sailor questioning the antics around him. This will certainly amuse fans of the show.

    Because You're Curious
Let's be honest, there's at least a small part of you that wants to know who's going to say, "You sunk my battleship." And you may be surprised by how it's incorporated into the film. Cliffhanger! And don't you want to see how they pulled it off? When they literally were working from nothing, they came up with a full plot line based around a children's board game. Credit is due, my friends.

Did we convince you? Will you see "Battleship" this weekend? Sound off in the comments and on Twitter!

  • 'Seeking A Friend' Exclusive Clip Welcomes You To Friendsy's

Welcome to Friendsy's, where everyone's your friend, and everybody is welcome — even wolves!

In this exclusive clip from "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," the impending-apocalypse dramedy starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, our two heroes find themselves in a shockingly jovial place considering that the world's about to end.

Arriving at Friendsy's, Carell and Knightley's characters can't help but grin at all the ridiculousness on display: public weed-smoking, endless congo lines, and waitresses who are "rolling really hard right now."

"We thought about closing up shop, but then we realized: this is really our family, you know?" the Friendsy's host, played by "Cloverfield" actor T.J. Miller, reasons when asked why the not-so-family-friendly restaurant is still in business with just days to go before armageddon strikes. "In fact, the tragedy has brought us closer. Almost too close... but that's impossible!"

The best part about Friendsy's? According to a waitress named Katie (played by "Community" favorite Gillian Jacobs), literally "everything is awesome," including the chef's "very creative" specials. Find out what's on the menu in our exclusive clip.

  • 'Blade Runner' Sequel Hires Original Writer, Has Female Lead

    Blade Runner

With "Prometheus" hitting theaters in three weeks, it's time for Ridley Scott to focus on returning to another one of his most famous properties: "Blade Runner." Warner Bros released a press release today saying that the new movie will officially be a sequel to the original, and that "Blade Runner" scribe Hampton Fancher will be back to help Scott develop the story.

Fancher and Scott originally conceived "Blade Runner" as the first of a series of films that would explore the themes presented in Philip K. Dick's novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep." Though it took Scott three decades to do so, he's finally returning to that idea now.

Apparently the sequel will take place several years after the first film ended. But which version of the ending will Scott use going forward? We guess that's the downside of releasing seven thousand director's cuts of a film.

Scott confirmed to The Daily Beast that he had his first meetings for the "Blade Runner" sequel last week, so it sounds like that might be one of his next few projects. Following in the footsteps of "Alien," "Thelma & Louise" and now "Prometheus," Scott said that he plans to put a female lead front and center.

"Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week," he said when asked about the status of the project. "We have a very good take on it. And we'll definitely be featuring a female protagonist."

Are you intrigued by a second "Blade Runner," or do you wish Scott just left well-enough alone? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter.

  • 'What To Expect When You're Expecting': Five Epic Movie Birth Scenes

    By Jessica Marshall

Ahhh birth. The miracle of life. And one of Hollywood's favorite plot points.

Birth scenes in movies range from shouty and grunty to creepy and gooey and often leave viewers with the highly philosophical question: What is that baby really covered in?

You'll get birth scenes in spades when you catch "What To Expect When You're Expecting," the new star-studded rom-com opening today. Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks, Chace Crawford, Chris Rock and Anna Kendrick are just a few of the celebs who bring to life the wacky rollercoaster ride that anticipating a brand new bundle of joy can be.

It's loosely based on the bestselling self-help book by Heidi Murkoff (there's probably a well-worn copy stashed somewhere in your parents' house), and focuses on five couples as they anticipate parenthood. There are lots of preggo bellies, raging hormones, slapstick humor and moments of sheer terror — err, joy.

But just like giving birth in reality, you should be prepared. There are many different types of cinematic births. Here is a smattering of a few of the more notable ones to get you ready for "What To Expect." Think of it like taking a pre-film Lamaze class.

Violent Birth: "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1"
The birth of Renesmee, the half-vampire, half-human spawn of Bella and Edward Cullen, is a bloody good time. Punctuated by the sounds of ripping flesh, flashing red and yellow lights, and what seems like gallons of fake blood throughout, this highly anticipated birth scene flat-out induced seizures in several folks around the country who saw it in theaters. It's definitely not for the squeamish.

    Water Birth: "The Back-Up Plan"
This rom-com stars Jennifer Lopez as a perennial bachelorette who gets artificially inseminated in a moment of desperation, only to meet her soul mate later that day. The film is notable for a certain scene in which JLo's character and her would-be baby daddy (Alex O'Loughlin) witness a home water birth, complete with a plastic inflatable pool, animalistic noisemaking, unidentified floating objects and a bongo-drumming hippy, played by a hilarious pre-"Bridesmaids" Melissa McCarthy. Words cannot describe this chaotic scene that brings the term TMI to a whole new level.

The Creepy Supernatural Birth: "Children of the Damned"
If you've always dreamed of having kids at the same time as all of your best friends, we're pretty sure you didn't mean it to happen like it does in this 1995 John Carpenter flick (a remake of a chilling 1960 classic) starring Christopher Reeve, Kirstie Alley and Linda Kozlowski. This horror movie opens with an evil presence sweeping through a small American town, mysteriously knocking up its female residents. Exactly nine months later, there's a blond baby boom that starts with a mile-long caravan of cars on their way to the hospital (which is actually a barn converted for the occasion) and ends with a shrill chorus of howling moms and mewling, questionably human, infants. This one isn't so much gross as it is creepy.

The Sympathy Pains Birth: "Nine Months"
Hugh Grant plays his signature role of the ever-bumbling bachelor in this 1995 Chris Columbus romantic comedy. When his girlfriend (Julianne Moore) finds herself unexpectedly pregnant, Hugh's character is forced to man up in the course of nine months and stick with her. He does, but not before he faints (along with the also-bumbling and squeamish doctor played by Robin Williams) in the delivery room after getting an eyeful of the process.

    The '80s Birth: "She's Having a Baby"
Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern (long before she became the mistress of "Downton Abbey") star in this late-'80s comedy from John Hughes about newlyweds adjusting to society's expectations of them — namely that they immediately start popping out babies. The film is pretty light-hearted until the end, when they actually have a baby. Then it turns all crazy dramatic when there's a complication with the birth and Kevin Bacon's character ends up sobbing like a little girl in a hospital waiting room. Don't worry though, it has a happy ending.

Bonus — The Man Birth: "Junior"
Now this one doesn't happen often in movies, but it bears mentioning because, well, it's not everyday that you see Arnold Schwarzenegger giving birth via c-section. The Governator takes one for the team in this 1994 Ivan Reitman comedy that reunites him with his "Twins" co-star Danny DeVito, playing a devoted fertility research scientist who agrees to become a test subject and carry a baby to term — in his own body. This one gets bonus points for the hilarious (and kind of terrifying) dream sequence brought on by pregnancy hormones in which Arnold's character gives birth to a baby that has his adult face.

  • 'Battleship,' 'The Dictator,' And More: Double Feature Friday

In honor of two separate Brooklyn Decker films hitting theaters this weekend, we have recommended only movies that don't feature Brooklyn Decker, so sorry fans of "Just Go With It."

Check out this week's Double Feature Friday!

    "Battleship" & "Friday Night Lights"
There was a time, not so long ago, when Peter Berg, instead of directing films "From the Makers of Transformers," could make a movie like this adaptation of the book by Buzz Bissinger. In the years since it's release, against all odds, the TV series that spun off from "Friday Night Lights" eclipsed the original thanks to delightful turns by Kyle Chandler and "Battleship" star Taylor Kitsch. The 2004 starring Billy Bob Thornton and the future Mrs. Taylor, Connie Britton, delivers on all the same honest notes that made the series such a wonderful show but does so in a slightly darker shade of Panther blue. Then again, if you just want a Kitsch fix, turn to the "FNL" series and get on board with Riggins' Riggs.

"What to Expect When You're Expecting" & "Waking Ned Devine"
"What to Expect" director Kirk Jones made a name for himself with the charming Irish comedy from 1998, "Waking Ned Devine." After old Ned Devine wins the lottery and subsequently dies of shock, his small town in Ireland comes together to hatch a scheme where they could all collect and split the money. Funny and warm, Jones' first film about death could be the perfect pairing for his new one about new life.

"The Dictator" & "The Great Dictator"
Long before Sacha Baron Cohen was lampooning the likes of Saddam, Charlie Chaplin sent a big F-U to Adolf Hitler a whole year before the United States even entered World War II. Chaplin took aim at a living, powerful and dangerous figure and made his feelings heard loud and clear. The comedy classic stands as a testament to the power of a genre most see as just about the laughs.

    "Hysteria" & "Like Crazy"
This limited release about the dawn of the first vibrator co-stars Felicity Jones, the British actress who made an incredible impression in last year's "Like Crazy." The Sundance darling tells the story of an all-too-real long distance couple, who do whatever they can to stay together, even if it's not the best idea. Anton Yelchin and Jones both deliver genuine performances that charm as much as they sting.

What are you watching this weekend? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter!

If one movie is never enough for you and you're looking for a flick to get you in the mood for this week's new release, Double Feature Friday is here to help. Every week we break down the new releases and pair them with older movies that you should catch before heading out to the theater. Or just skip the new movie and check out the classic we recommend.
