- Watch It: 'Lost' Anniversary Marks Polarizing Finale
Two years ago, an impossible beam of bright light zapped out of an island and left "Lost" fans everywhere dumbfounded, for better or for worse. The series finale was polarizing, no doubt about it: was it brilliant? Was it moronic? Fandom remains divided on the issue to this very day, and we're marking the occasion with our own look back on "Lost" history.
Go back to the island, and find out what else we're watching, in this week's Watch It!
"Fifty Shades of Grey"
I hate to say it, but I've been consumed by "Fifty Shades of Grey." It's not a movie, but it certainly will be, which is why I decided to give it a read. As "Twilight" fan fiction, I definitely notice traces of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan in the main characters of Christian Grey and Ana Steele. Christian is brooding, self-deprecating and impossibly good-looking, while Ana is clumsy, shy and doesn't realize her own beauty. The couple's S&M relationship is both sexy and ridiculous, but what really interests me is their connection sans the physical affair. I find myself in anticipation of their email correspondence more than their trysts in Christian's Red Room of Pain. I have about 20 pages to go and I'm embarrassingly considering buying the sequels. Does that mean I can no longer say reading the series is "research for work"? -Fallon Prinzivalli, MTV Movies editorial assistant"Serenity"
Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to attend the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival, and the closing film of the fest remains to be my favorite: "Serenity." There's something about the way Nathan Fillion's Captain Malcolm Reynolds says, "I aim to misbehave" that lets me know a "Firefly" marathon will be happening in the Schwartz household very soon. -Terri Schwartz, MTV Movies contributor"Sherlock" & "House"
This week I watched two TV finales -- the second season finale of "Sherlock" and the series finale of "House." Both were sad, sweet and somewhat shocking. They also shared a major plot point (which I won't spoil here). You may be aware that the characters of Dr. House and his best friend, Dr. Wilson, were loosely based on Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. But here's another interesting fact that links the two series: Long ago, before most folks in the US knew of either of them, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) played Hugh Laurie's (House) son on a really funny UK show called "Fortysomething." Check it out; it's available on Netflix. -Tami Katzoff, MTV News producer"Lost"
I am an unapologetic "Lost" fan who unapologetically thinks that the show's final twist was pretty poor. Honestly, the final season missed the mark for me. But does the existence of an abstract world where all of our favorites heroes (and some of our favorite villains) get to hang out with each other for all of eternity take away from six years of awesome Sawyer one-liners? Does it kill the pure joy we felt when Sawyer, Charlie, Jin and Hurley successfully kick-started the DHARMA van in the jungle and drove around for hours to celebrate? Does it make Michael Emerson's Benjamin Linus any less creepy? I don't think so. (And if you think so, please refamiliarize yourself with the video below; that dude is way creepy). If any story has ever taught me the lesson of journeys versus destinations, it's "Lost." No silly endings will ever change my love for the six-year roller coaster ride Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse took me on. And if you'll excuse me, I'm going to leave work tonight and celebrate the anniversary by watching Jack Shephard land a flying death punch on Fake-Locke's face on repeat for two hours. -Josh Wigler, MTV Movies Blog editorWhat are you guys watching this week? Переслать - 'Snow White' Director Believes He Can Make 'Halo' Movie Work
Studios have been trying to bring "Halo" to the big screen for several years now, and all have tried and failed. But in a new interview with MTV News, "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders said he thinks he has what it takes to make "Halo" a successful film.
"I believe that given the freedom, I could make it work," he said. "I think the problem is that there are so many laws existing and so many people you have to be beholden to. [I would make it] if they said to me, here's the 'Halo' world, go do it, which would never happen."
Sanders is no stranger to the "Halo" universe. In 2007, he was hired by Bungie to make a commercial for "Halo 3." He later was brought back to shoot a 90-second, live action commercial for a spin-off game, "Halo: ODST," that earned him critical acclaim.
"I was given a great kind of idea of that commercial and we went to Hungary and shot it in a working coal-fired power station and we just did the best we could with quite a limited budget, to be honest, and had a lot of success," Sanders said of the making of the "ODST" commercial. "I think that 'Halo' is a hard property because they don't need to make a film. They make far more money out of the games so why risk? There's a lot of bad versions of movie video games. Very few that work."
It was that ad that had many clamoring for him to take the reins on a big screen "Halo" adaptation. It ended up going to Jackson and Blomkamp, though that was scrapped because of a bloated budget (here's a detailed look at the history of the game's planned adaptation).
Though Sanders is passionate about bringing "Halo" to the big screen, he doesn't care as much about trying to break into the comic book movie genre. Instead, it seems like his interests are more rooted in sci-fi, and he said he is working on a new project that he will hopefully start on now that "Snow White and the Huntsman" is almost in theaters.
"I'd like to make a science fiction film, I'm working on one loosely based on the Battle for Algiers. Again, thematic, slightly political. I think you can get away with being a bit more political in science fiction," he said. "We just got a first draft, so I think in the next kind of month or two we'll have a better version of it and hopefully start to put together the world."

Переслать - Bruce Willis Calls 'Looper' His Best Project In Today's Twitter-Wood
If you haven't noticed, the MTV Movies team is quite excited to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis' film "Looper." Between an awesome movie poster and trailer commentary from the director himself, Rian Johnson, our anticipation keeps building.
Mr. Willis has some things to say about #Looper and @rcjohnso: tmblr.co/ZfxHVyL-QeOo #wow
— Joseph Gordon-Levitt (@hitRECordJoe) May 23, 2012
The film focuses on the criminal use of time-travel technology to send targets back to the past where they're taken out by assassins called Loopers. These murderers live an extravagant lifestyle with the understanding that one day they'll be sent back through time and killed themselves, in order to close the loop. Looper JGL's day is up when his future self is sent back in time and manages to escape his grasp. Willis plays the older version of JGL's character and recently told Esquire that the film is "better than anything [he's] ever done."
"Rian did an amazing thing. He conceived an original story. He wrote it, sold it, stuck with it, directed it, and finished it," Willis said. "That's just tough to do in this town. Someone always weasels into the process. That didn't happen here. And if he never did anything else except that Herculean effort, he'd have made it in the business. Amazing.
"It's more than an original story. It's a story people are going to talk about, and see twice. And argue about. I was arguing with myself about the story when I read it the first time. That's all Rian Johnson, beginning to end. Great, great director."
"Looper" is set to hit theaters this September.

Переслать - Disney Puts 'Order Of The Seven' On Hold
It seems like "Snow White and the Huntsman" and "Mirror Mirror" won the battle of the Snow White movies. Disney had been developing their own dark take on the beloved fairy tale called "The Order of the Seven," but new reports say that they have put the project on hold indefinitely.
The Hollywood Reporter has the news, citing the movie's large budget as a reason for the cancellation. Apparently after the deemed box office failures of Disney's "John Carter" and Universal's "Battleship" -- both with budgets over $200 million -- Disney has decided to reassess their big tentpole movies.
"The Order of the Seven" was planned to be a Hong Kong-set spin on the classic Snow White tale starring Saoirse Ronan and being directed by first timer Michael Gracey. The kung fu flick would follow a young woman who escapes her wicked stepmother and turns to an international band of seven warriors to protect her. According to THR, they would belong to "an ancient order dedicated to fighting demons and dragons." Even as early as last week, Disney had hired "Iron Man" scribes Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby to clean up the script.
Apparently the resignation of studio head Rich Ross also had something to do with "Order" being scrapped. Ross had been overseeing the development of the movie, but left Disney in April after "John Carter" did not prove profitable. Right now, Disney has not named a replacement for him as head.

Переслать - 'Great Gatsby' Trailer: Baz Luhrmann + Kanye West Equals A Fan Girl's Dream Come True
O! M! G! "The Great Gatsby" trailer is out and the full film can't come soon enough.
It had me hooked from the moment I heard the pulsing beat of Kanye West and Jay-Z's "No Church In The Wild." From there, director Baz Luhrmann transferred "Gatsby" fans to a glitzy, yet gritty take on F. Scott Fitzgerald's Jazz Age masterpiece, which was always the author's intent.
Decadent party scenes only mask the "hysteria" of the Roaring '20s, fueled by bathtub gin and a sense of liberation that influenced the fashions (shorter hemlines!) and loosey goosey morals (sexy, sexy times all over the place!) of the time.
For the December release, Luhrmann recalls the vibe of his equally modern take on "Romeo & Juliet," which also starred his muse-like leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio. This time, DiCaprio is another ill-fated anti-hero. He's the main man, Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire who could care less about his money and only wants one thing: his former love, socialite Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan), to be his once again.
Luhrmann, a man who knows a thing or two about star-crossed lovers, perfectly plays their intense love affair against the firework-filled backdrop of their lives. But, it all turns dark pretty quickly for the pair. Deception, lies and jealousy can't keep these two together for long. The trailer also includes some key appearances from Tobey Maguire, who plays innocent bystander and narrator Nick Carraway, as well as Daisy's hubby, Tom Buchanan, played by Joel Edgerton.
This is hardly the first film adaptation of the classic novel (see the 1974 version with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow), but, it is the first in 3-D and probably the first that seamlessly matches the music of now with the vibe of then, the calling card of any good Luhrmann production.
The trailer seems to be a very good indicator that the director has found the perfect tempo to shape the story. It's not too fast and not too slow. And, it's all splashy, just like the Roaring '20s themselves.

Переслать - Nick Frost Talks 'World's End' At 'Snow White' Premiere
At long last, the end of the world is upon us! Not literally, no, but the fan-favorite trio behind "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" — Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright — are finally set to join forces again for "The World's End," their latest genre-bending picture about five old friends who reunite to replicate an epic pub crawl from their boyhood; calamity and hilarity ensue.
That's about all we know of "World's End," which is supposedly the third and final act in Wright, Pegg and Frost's Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. But even if this is the end of the fan-dubbed Blood and Ice Cream movies, it won't be the last time the trio works together again.
"I think it's probably the end of this part of the trilogy. I don't think we'll never work [together] again," Frost told MTV News at the "Snow White and the Huntsman" premiere in London earlier this month. "It's just an end to this section of films we're making and then we'll move forward and make different, older, more mature films. There'll be a film where I'll have to carry Simon up Kilimanjaro or something."
Asked about the plot specifics, Frost was cagey. "I'm one of the guys," he said. "There are five of us, and we're out, trying to recapture the glory we had as older teenagers. Hilarity and hell ensues."
Frost said he knows who will play the three friends in addition to himself and Pegg, but he wasn't ready to spill those beans just yet. The waiting game continues, then!

Переслать - Watch Bill Murray Crash Our Wes Anderson Interview
Everyone has a Bill Murray story. Come on, you know it's true: you have a friend of a friend who encountered Murray in a public bathroom, found himself on the receiving end of a headlock, and watched in horror as Murray explained, "Tell this to everyone, they'll never believe you." Without question, Murray's pranks, antics and unpredictable nature have become legendary at this point.
Well, we're very pleased to contribute some video evidence to the ongoing saga of super strange Bill Murray happenings. During an MTV News interview with Wes Anderson at the Cannes Film Festival, a special ghost-busting guest — one guess as to who — crashed our interview to sing the praises of the "Moonrise Kingdom" director. It's… an amazing event. Watch it in the video above and keep reading for Murray's thoughts on his frequent collaborator.
"It's really fun, and I do feel that I am sort of in the center, because I've been in [Anderson's films] a long time," Murray said of working with Anderson. "And I welcome others to come in, and I try to inform them of the rules of the place and how they have to behave. And the great thing is that the kid [Anderson] keeps getting better and better. ... I'm so proud of what he does now and how much fun he's having doing it. Because that's the reason I do it, 'cause I have fun doing it. And he's really done an excellent job of instructing others how to have fun and make it a real adventure to play."
Simply awesome. Read more about the experience over here.

Переслать - Natalie Portman To Star In Western 'Jane Got A Gun'
Natalie Portman is lining up yet another big screen project, this time teaming her with "We Need To Talk About Kevin" helmer Lynne Ramsay. According to new reports, Portman is going to star in and produce Ramsay's upcoming Western, "Jane Got a Gun."
The Hollywood Reporter has the news, reporting that CAA is shopping the project around at the Cannes Film Festival. Apparently it has sparked quite the bidding war over there in southern France.
The movie follows titular character Jane after her outlaw husband returns to their home "barely alive and riddled with bullet wounds." She then is forced to turn to her ex and ask for his assistance in defending her home from her husband's gang, who are looking to finish off their former member.
It seems like Portman has been itching to work with a female director for a while now. She was reportedly upset after Marvel fired Patty Jenkins from "Thor 2," largely because she was excited about helping to facilitate the first female comic book movie director. Ramsay has already proved her worth with last year's "We Need To Talk About Kevin," so if "Jane Got a Gun" is half the emotional heavy hitter that that movie was, we should all be in for a treat.
"Jane Got a Gun" is not the only project Portman has on the horizon. She's also signed on to Terrence Malick's next two films and is of course also starring in "Thor 2," the upcoming post-"Avenger" Marvel movie that is being directed by "Game of Thrones" helmer Alan Taylor.

Переслать - 'Prometheus' Featurette Introduces Meredith Vickers, Charlize Theron's Company Creep
With only two and a half weeks left until "Prometheus" hits the big screen, we're being treated to a more in depth look at the characters in the film. We've already learned about David and got to know Elizabeth Shaw, and now we're being introduced to Charlize Theron's villainous Meredith Vickers.
"She works for the Weyland company who built this spaceship and has basically funded this mission to find the origins of where we come from," Theron said in the newest featurette revealed through the "Prometheus" viral. "She really is the character that in many ways goes against everything that everybody else is there to do."
There's some previously unseen footage in this video that gives us a better sense of how Vickers works. As we've seen in the previous "Alien" movies, the Weyland Corporation is out for only one thing: themselves. We seem to see that Vickers repeatedly puts the company over her crew in "Prometheus," something that is in keeping with what we know of Weyland.
"She desperately tries to control the situation that she finds herself in," Theron added.
If you haven't been keeping up with the "Prometheus" viral campaign, we highly suggest you check out the featurettes that came before this. Guy Pearce's TED Talk as Weyland founder Peter Weyland and Michael Fassbender's introduction as the android David are two of our favorite pieces of viral marketing this year.
"Prometheus" lands in theaters on June 8.

Переслать - Tom Hardy Controls The Fear In 'Lawless' Clips
We wouldn't consider ourselves in a superhero overload right now, but it is nice to have other movies that aren't about caped (and suited and masked) crusaders to look forward to. That's why we're so thrilled for movies like "Prometheus," "Snow White and the Huntsman" and John Hillcoat's latest, "Lawless," to finally hit theaters.
The latter doesn't come out until August 29, but two new clips for the Depression-era crime drama have hit the web that make us wish it was coming out this Friday. The scenes continue the drama that was set up in the first trailer released, namely the tension between Tom Hardy's Forrest Bondurant and Guy Pearce's Special Deputy Charlie Rakes and the relationship between Forrest and his younger brother Jack, played by Shia LaBeouf.
It was clear from the trailer that the one of the two main sources of conflict in the movie was going to come from the Bondurants bashing heads with Rakes, so it's interesting to see a scene with the two of them speaking civilly (for the most part). Based on this clip, Hardy looks like he's going to give a powerful performance, though Pearce will likely steal the show.
The second clip features our favorite line from any of the "Lawless" promotion so far. LaBeouf's Jack was beaten up by some unnamed assailants, and Hardy's Forrest explains to him how he can prevent it from ever happening again.
"It is not violence that sets men a part. It's the distance that he is prepared to go," Forrest says. "We are survivors. We control the fear. And without the fear we are all as good as dead."
"Lawless" also stars Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasikowska and Dane DeHaan.
