- Nikki Reed Heads To The 'Empire State' To Finish Filming
by Meg Malone
Making any trips this weekend, Crushers? We're probably staying put, but Nikki Reed is making her way to New York City to finish up her movie!
Taking off to NYC for the last two days on #empirestate
— Nikki Reed (@NikkiReed_I_Am) July 6, 2012
The trip seems fitting since the aforementioned flick is called "Empire State," after all. Nikki may be headed to NYC for now, but as we mentioned earlier this week in our Comic-Con 2012 preview, she is scheduled to be at the San Diego convention for the Entertainment Weekly: Powerful Women in Pop Culture (aka Women Who Kick Ass!) panel.
"Empire State" is an '80s-set film about two friends from childhood who decide to rob an armored car depository. While we have some dish on co-star Emma Robert's character, there's not too much yet from Nikki, though she said she was intimidated by the character she is playing. We'll just have to wait and see what that may look like, but until then, safe travels and we'll see you in San Diego soon!
Looking forward to getting more details on "Empire State"? Let us know in the comments and on Twitter!
Переслать - 'Mortal Instruments' Adds Kevin Durand, Robert Maillet
Sure, it may not be Simon Lewis-level casting news, but no scoop from "The Mortal Instruments" set is too small as pre-production ramps up on the Cassandra Clare adaptation.
Variety reports that Kevin Durand and Robert Maillet are joining the supernatural flick as Pangborn and Blackwell, a pair of disgraced Shadowhunters who serve as villainous Valentine's underlings.
Kevin, who was most recently rumored to be in the running for the role of Brutus in "Catching Fire," is best known for portraying Martin on "Lost" and can be seen in the upcoming Robert Pattinson-starring film "Cosmopolis." His cohort Robert is a Canadian pro wrestler who's racked up film credits in "Sherlock Holmes" and "Immortals."
The two join previously cast stars Jemima West as Isabelle Lightwood, Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland and Lily Collins as Clary Fray.
"The Mortal Instruments" tells the story of Clary Fray, who thinks she is just a regular teen until she discovers she comes from a long line of ancient demon destroyers known as Shadowhunters. Production on the first installment, "City of Bones," is slated to begin next month. (Meaning we hope to be writing many more of these casting announcements over the next few weeks...)
What do you think about Kevin Durand and Robert Maillet joining "The Mortal Instruments" cast? Which announcement are you hoping for next? Simon? Valentine? Luke? Sound off in the comments and on Twitter!
Переслать - Author Nina LaCour Talks Turning 'Hold Still' Into A Movie, Sans Studio
by Meg Malone
We are lovers of both YA novels and movies based on YA novels here at Hollywood Crush, so we were keen to chat with author Nina LaCour, who is adapting her 2010 novel, "Hold Still," into a movie—without the support of a deep-pocket studio. Nina's hoping to raise $17,000 through Kickstarter to cover production costs on the film project, and is about $4,000 shy of that goal.
"From the beginning, I'd imagined and hoped that it would become a movie," Nina told Hollywood Crush of her novel, which tells the story of a girl dealing with the suicide of her best friend.
During a dinner conversation with Amanda Krampf and Kristyn Stroble, the trio was discussing Nina's second novel, "The Disenchantments," which from the outset had generated movie interest from agents and producers. As they speculated on the different directions other people could take her story, the conversation then turned to their vision for "Hold Still" as a film and how they could make it with complete creative control.
Fast forward to today, which marks the first day of shooting. Nina is the film's writer and co-director, with Amanda co-directing and Kristyn as the cinematographer. Though production is on a pretty tight schedule since members of the cast are home for the summer from college, Nina had nothing but praise for the actors, as well as everyone who has been involved so far.
"The joyous part has been how enthusiastic everyone is and how willing to give so much of their time, you know, for little to no compensation," Nina said.
As far as challenges to making this project on their own, Nina said they have had to consider how they will procure various resources, from sets and wardrobes to lighting and sound equipment.
"It's difficult because we are working with a really, really limited budget," Nina said.
Hence the $17,000 fundraising effort ending July 12 at 4 p.m. ET. Check out the film's Kickstarter page to meet some cast members, donate (there are some pretty sweet perks!) and track their progress. They are getting closer to their goal, and Nina said it was "the sweetest thing" that people have been willing to donate.
"One of the things that's really touched me the most is the young-adult author and blogger and reader community has been so responsive," Nina said.
To the fans of "Hold Still," Nina said that she worked to make her screenplay a close adaptation of the original book.
"I would just want them to know, that you know, what they're getting is coming straight from me," Nina said.
Kudos to all the creativity and drive going into this project! We really want to see Nina and company surpass their goal and make their film, don't you, Crushers?

Переслать - Style Superstar: Lana Del Rey Is Tops In Topshop
We love a good haute-couture gown as much as the next blog, but when it comes to award-worthy fashion, a true Style Superstar doesn't need a $10,000 frock and diamonds on loan from Harry Winston to work her magic. She'll strut her stuff in everything from custom-designed Oscar de la Renta to off-the-rack pieces from everyday stores. And in this week's edition, we're putting the spotlight on two great-looking gals whose award-worthy ensembles aren't just super-chic, but accessible to boot! Whose look from Topshop was cream of the crop?
It's Lana Del Rey, whose signature look got a boost from a full-skirted minidress, pointy pumps with a metallic toe cap and a sky-high beehive. The singer was pretty in peach as she performed in London, showing off her legs in this cute dress that's matte up top and mesh below. And the best part? Everything she's wearing, from dress to accessories, came from Topshop—which means that unlike most of the fashion we feature in this space, you could copy this look for yourself without having to sell a kidney for the privilege.
But where Lana's Topshop look deserves imitation, this next one deserves...um, defenestration? Demi Lovato is often seen wearing clothes from the British retailer, and she usually nails her looks like a pro—but this one, with sleeveless leather biker jacket, tight floral dress and clodhopping ankle boots, is not her best. This bodycon dress would've been a svelte standalone without the distracting layers, random jewelry and clunky footwear; with 'em, it just looks sloppy. Here's hoping she dresses it down with a sleek shoe and no extras next time!

Переслать - Katy Perry Wants To Inspire With 'Part Of Me'
It's no secret Katy Perry's had one rollercoaster ride of a year, with the low point being her divorce from comedian husband Russell Brand, which was finalized in February. So it was an interesting time for Katy to let cameras behind the scenes for the rock doc "Katy Perry: Part of Me" in 3-D (out now). But to her credit, the songstress didn't shy away from showing that side of her life in the film, mostly because she wanted to inspire others who may be going through similar struggles, she told MTV News recently.
"It's not about the problem; it's about how you solve it," Katy said. "And if I can be an example showing people that they don't have to lay down and die because they've been thrown a curveball, then that's great. If I can help someone else out because they feel like the only loner in the world or the only person that is going through the situation and they see me and they're inspired to keep moving forward, then I've done my job."
That's not to say, however, that Katy divulges every dirty detail of the split, which came a little over a year after her and Russell's nuptials in India.
"Everything has to be handled with integrity and appropriately, and it's not nice to air all your dirty laundry, because that stinks, so I had to be very delicate with the situation, but I couldn't avoid the elephant in the room," she explained. "If you were to have seen that movie and walked out and [my breakup] wasn't at all mentioned like it never happened, you'd be like, 'Eh, this is weird, what is she trying to hide?' I don't like to hide."

Переслать - 'Twi' Babies: Jackson Rathbone Welcomes Son, Cam Gigandet Expecting Baby No. 2
Forget Renesmee. The newest vampire baby to join the Cullen clan is none other than Monroe Jackson Rathbone VI, the first child for "Twilight" star Jackson Rathbone and girlfriend Sheila Hafsadi.
The actor (whose full name is Monroe Jackson Rathbone V) took to Twitter last night to announce the glad tidings: "Thank you ALL for the love & support! Sheila & I couldn't be happier to have such a beautiful, healthy baby boy, Monroe Jackson Rathbone VI."
The news of Sheila's pregnancy broke back in February, with Jackson announcing a month later that he was leaving his band, 100 Monkeys, to make time for his increasingly packed personal life.
Jackson isn't the only "Twilight" star deserving of mazels, though: Cam Gigandet (who you know as villainous vamp James) is having baby No. 2 with girlfriend Dominique Geisendorff. The couple already have a three-year-old daughter, Everleigh.
Congratulations to all of our favorite baby-making bloodsuckers!
Leave your well wishes for Jackson and Cam in the comments!
Переслать - Taylor Kitsch On 'Savages' Full Frontal Scene That Almost Was
by Madeline Zeppa
There are only so many times you can go see "Magic Mike" for your movie eye candy fix. Whether you're into blood or violence, the movie "Savages" can still satisfy that need to watch some sexy men for a couple of hours. Considering what you may have seen in the film's trailer, you'd probably expect to see a whole lot of Blake Lively in this film since her character is in a relationship with two of the men however, it's the other way around.
"I was pitching full frontal, long, slow-motion shots but Oliver didn't want it," Taylor Kitsch told MTV News as he joked about the onscreen nudity. "No, I mean it's all part of it. Look, the movie's called 'Savages,' it's directed by Oliver Stone. I think we got away with just that, considering what this could have, you know, been. It's all part of it, you sign up for it."
We're feeling full frontal nudity would have been a little too much, but we definitely don't mind seeing a little bit of muscle to brighten up the mood of the story! Truth be told, you can definitely expect to see more half-naked men than half-naked women, along with a lot of action and suspense, of course.
"Even the violence, you know, I mean as violence goes, I thought it was pretty well done," John Travolta added on dealing with the violent scenes in the film. "Because [in watching] that opening scene I thought, 'Oh no,' I can't watch this, but then it became OK."
"Or the imagination too, which is what I loved about it, which can hit you harder." Taylor added.
If you're looking for an action-packed summer movie or just searching for more men to swoon over with your friends, "Savages" fits the bill, though be prepared for some serious onscreen violence. The film earns its R rating and then some.
Will you be seeing "Savages"?
Переслать - Ashley Madekwe Gets 'Revenge' With Fabulous Shoes
by Meg Malone
Forget feeling like revenge - we're too busy feeling envious looking at the picture that "Revenge" actress Ashley Madekwe tweeted today from her costume fitting.
First costume fitting for #Revenge!!!? instagr.am/p/MtZd2hqhbi/
— Ashley Madekwe (@smashleybell) July 5, 2012
Shoe envy, am I right Crushers? If we had to pick a favorite, those ones in the center look pretty snazzy and have us intrigued. Though we wouldn't be complaining about any of them since the peep-toe heels on the right are classic and those ones on the left have quite the sharp looking toes (literally!).
Besides these shoes here, Ashley's "Revenge" character, Ashley Davenport, certainly makes us jealous since according to ABC's "Revenge" website, Ashley Davenport has "$50k worth of designer clothes and shoes."
All this talk is making us want to hit the mall for a shopping spree – sadly, we don't have a $50,000 credit card limit. Anyway, the tweet reminded us how fabulous Ashley and everyone else will be looking once the second season of "Revenge" rolls around. Can't wait to see what kind of Hamptons drama goes down in season two!
Which of these shoes would you totally want to borrow? Excited for "Revenge" to return? Let us know in the comments and on Twitter!

Переслать - Nina Dobrev And Nicholas Braun Rap About Sunscreen Application
by Meg Malone
Summertime is the best, am I right? Relaxing on the beach, taking a dip in the pool, sing-alongs about sun protection factor...
Yeah, the last one is a pretty new one for us too, but we are all about it now thanks to this Funny or Die exclusive video featuring Nina Dobrev and Nicholas Braun. Watch "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" co-stars rap about how "all I need is my SPF," while applying generous amounts of suntan lotion and frolicking at the beach. It's part stuck-in-your-head summer jam, part PSA on the dangers of the sun, and randomly, part shout out to various Will Smith projects. Hey, it works!
Take a cue from The Vampire Diaries leading lady, when Nina raps:
"See I got the notion / to head up to the ocean / STOP / forgot my suntan lotion."Having seen this, there's no excuse not to apply before heading out into the sun, Crushers!
What did you think of Nina Dobrev's rap? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter!
