  • Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem Assemble In New 'Skyfall' Poster

    Bond

Another day, another reason to be excited about the upcoming release of "Skyfall." Well, today is a special day because we have not one, not two, but five brand new character posters from the 23rd adventure of James Bond.

The film's Facebook page posted a brand new banner that features Daniel Craig as Bond, Javier Bardem as the villainous Silva, Berenice Marlohe as new Bond girl Severine and Naomie Harris as Eve, all set against the backdrop of the 007 logo. Later, the banner was cut into four individual character posters that feature each previously mentioned character.

We love the way the posters show the differentiation of all these various characters. Craig's Bond is just as cool, calm and collected as we've come to know him, wearing a midnight blue suit and sporting his signature handgun. Similarly, Marlohe's Severine is all curves and sex appeal, like any good Bond girl is. That dress would do Angelina Jolie proud!

But it's with Bardem's Silva and Harris's Eve that things get interesting. Silva's black trench coat and high turtleneck might seem like a stereotypical villain outfit in our post-"The Matrix" culture, but we've learned from the previously released trailers that he'll be anything but. Bardem's addition to the "James Bond" film franchise has been exciting since it was announced, as he could prove to be the most interesting and complex villain the series has ever known. Fingers crossed.

Similarly, Harris's Eve is not the typical Bond girl that we've come to know, though outfit does remind us of Michelle Yeoh's character in "Tomorrow Never Dies." Hopefully she'll be able to transcend just playing the love interest in this movie and offer something more interesting and action-packed.

"Skyfall" is due in theaters on November 9.

  • Bond-a-Thond #9: 'The Man With The Golden Gun' (1974)

The Man With the Golden Gun

MTV Movies Blog is currently running what we call the Bond-a-Thond. Every Wednesday we're taking a look back at a single (official) Bond film, giving you the vitals and seeing how it holds up, right up until the release of "Skyfall" on November 9. Feel free to watch along with us and share your thoughts or just kick back and enjoy the Bond.

The Man With the Golden Gun (1974)

Plot: The world's greatest assassin has apparently set his golden sights on taking out his only worthy opponent, 007.

Title Meaning: It is the moniker of Francisco Scaramanga, the assassin at the heart of the plot, who uses a literal golden gun to kill his targets.

    Bond: Roger Moore

Villain: Christopher Lee proves a worthy opponent for Bond as Scaramanga, the tri-nippled hit man who demands $1 million per kill.

    Golden-Gun

Bond Girls: Andrea Anders, Scaramanga's newest pre-kill lover, played by Maud Adams, and Mary Goodnight, an incompetent MI6 agent, played by Britt Ekland.

    Golden Gun Girls

    "Bond, James Bond" Occurrences: 3

    Martinis: 0

    Card Games: 0

    Cigarettes Smoked: 4 cigars

    Explosions: 16

    Tuxes Worn: 1

    Kills By Bond: 1

Most Creative Kill: The only kill by Bond in the film, during the climactic battle with Scaramanga, 007 pretends to be the assassin's practice dummy.

    Golden Gun Kill

Gadgets: The film's MacGuffin, the key component for unlimited solar energy called the Solex, can also power a high-intensity cannon.

Mental State of Miss Moneypenny: Arbitrarily admonishing

First Occurrence of Sex: 1 hour, 13 minutes in (New record!)

Sexual Partners: 2 (Andrea Anders and Mary Goodnight)

Most Unrealistic Moments: To escape from Bond's pursuit, Scaramanga and Nick Nack slaps a set of wings onto their car and fly away.

    Golden Gun Plane

Most "Bond" Moments: When Bond finally beds Goodnight at the end of the film, M calls to see where she is. Bond casually informs him, "She's just coming."

Sign of the Times: Scaramanga's assistant, Nick Nack, is repeatedly referred to as a midget. Bond even tells him matter-of-factly, "I've never killed a midget before."

Place in Bond History: Though Scaramanga's gun would go on to become one of the more recognizable Bond props thanks to the Nintendo 64 game "Goldeneye 007," "The Man With the Golden Gun" marked a severe dip in box office returns for the series.

Review: What drags "The Man With the Golden Gun" down is how close it is to being a great Bond movie. From the word "go," the premise draws you in. The world's greatest assassin lacks a proper challenge and seeks a showdown with Bond for one final thrill. Great! We're on board. No maniacal madman is trying to flood a particular market with a particular product. It's such a change of pace.

But there's more to "The Man With the Golden Gun" than Francisco Scaramanga and the delightful performance by Christopher Lee. There's Nick Nack, whose dwarfism amounts to nothing more than a reoccurring joke. Then there's Britt Ekland's Goodnight, a buffoon, only present to muck up Bond's plan and create more problems. Once you add in Scaramanga's plan to sell off the solar energy technology to the highest bidder, you've arrived back at an average Bond movie. The film even ends with a tacked on lair explosion.

None of this, thankfully, is able to completely ruin the sweeter parts of "The Man With the Golden Gun." Lee's Scaramanga presents a genuine physical opponent to Bond, at least at first, and their dinner table conversation about their enjoyment of killing comes straight out of a better Bond movie.

The Bond-a-Thond will return next week in "The Spy Who Loved Me."

  • Exclusive 'Jaws' Blu-ray Clip Reveals How Much The Cast Ad-Libbed

In honor of Uniersal's 100th anniversary, many of their classics are getting Blu-ray treatment, but none of their releases compares to the HD version of the mother of all blockbusters, "Jaws."

The new release of Steven Spielberg's first mega-hit packs a full restoration, in addition to four hours of bonus features and an all new feature-length documentary "The Shark Is Still Working."

To celebrate the release, we have an exclusive clip from that documentary. In it, the cast recalls improvising scenes on set while they waited for the shark to be ready.

One memorable scene in particular came straight out of those ad-libbing sessions. As Roy Scheider recalls in the clip, he had been sitting between takes with his young co-star Jay Mello, who played Brody's son Sean, when the boy started mimicking him. Scheider found the game so charming that he convinced Spielberg to include it.

The Blu-ray edition of "Jaws" hits shelves on August 14.

  • 'Deep Throat' Movie Still In Works, Jay Roach Says

Jay Roach, a director who made a name for himself on the charms of dick jokes in the "Austin Powers" series, has appropriately enough become HBO's go-to guy for contemporary political dramas. Though Roach is back in the realm of comedy with "The Campaign," he isn't straying that far from his recent place in politics and his upcoming projects look to continue that trend.

Aside from "K Blows Top," starring Paul Giamatti as Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, Roach has been planning his next move back into the political drama for some time. For a while now, the director has been toying with a film about Mark Felt, the former FBI associate director who used the alias "Deep Throat" to leak the Watergate scandal.

When MTV News spoke with Roach about "The Campaign," he offered this update about the project.

"We have continued to talk about that Watergate story, about Mark Felt, the guy that was Deep Throat," he said. "Tom Hanks' company is still kicking around with me. There are some other equally as hilarious subjects as Watergate that I'm very interested in. I'd like to be able to look at some serious things as well as the comedies."

We'll have to wait and see what becomes of Roach's Deep Throat project, but with Tom Hank's company involved, we're eager to see if something happens.

  • Shia LaBeouf Becomes A 'Nymphomaniac' For Lars Von Trier

    Sad Shia

Lars von Trier is going erotic in his new film, and this time Shia LaBeouf plans to follow him.

According to a new scoop from The Hollywood Reporter, LaBeouf is in talks for the "Melancholia" director's upcoming two-part erotic thriller "Nymphomaniac," which will begin shooting next month. It's unclear how large LaBeouf's role will be, but Charlotte Gainsboroug and Stellan Skarsgard already are cast as the two leads and Nicole Kidman—who worked with von Trier on "Dogville"—has hinted that she has a small role in the project as well.

"Nymphomaniac" tells the story of a woman (Gainsboroug) and her erotic adventures from her youth to age 50, as told by her husband (Skarsgard). Our guess would be that LaBeouf is playing one of the men she meets during her life.

LaBeouf has been pushing himself as an actor more and more with each role he takes, so we're not surprised that he's opted for a von Trier movie. Now that he's done with the "Transformers" franchise and "Indiana Jones 5" likely won't be happening soon, he has a whole new world of film opportunities out there. Sometimes it's hard to remember that LaBeouf got his start on the Disney Channel show "Even Stevens."

For the time being, LaBeouf's schedule is clear. His two forthcoming indies, "Lawless" and "The Company You Keep," are wrapped and headed to domestic release and international film festivals this month, respectively. His other project, "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman," recently wrapped production as well. And this isn't the first time LaBeouf has gone erotic in recent months. Let's just say he shares more than just his feelings in the music video Sigur Ros made for their song "Fjögur píanó."

Honestly, we're excited to see what LaBeouf is capable of. Von Trier seems like the right director to see how far the former child star can go with a role.

  • Guillermo Del Toro Spills On 'Haunted Mansion' In Horror Bites

    Guillermo Del Toro

Any time Guillermo del Toro has an announcement to make, you know it's going to be an exciting one, and fans have been anxiously waiting to hear word on this latest update from the Mexican director. Del Toro first announced his reboot of Disney's "Haunted Mansion" (based on the popular theme park ride) in the summer of 2010 to the excitement of many, but news quickly faded. Collider, however, recently spoke to the "Pacific Rim" filmmaker who offered this news:

"I have a meeting with them in three weeks. I know they like the screenplay. I need to meet with them in three weeks. That's what I know. I know their reaction to the draft was good. We have a bunch of conceptualist art, but you never know, to predict anything else is hard for me to know."

Del Toro also revealed that while he intended on writing and producing the movie, he's still not sure he actually wants to direct. "I came on board originally as a writer and producer, the decision I think they may be waiting, is for me to say I'm directing the movie. Or am I directing it next, which is too early for me to know what I'm doing next in live-action. I'm in the middle of "Pacific Rim" and I don't know what I'm going to do next."

    'Hellraiser' Concept Art Excites Possibilities
Let's not pretend: the latest installment in the "Hellraiser" franchise, "Hellraiser: Revelations," sucked. Pinhead hasn't had a proper platform for his sadistic shenanigans for some time, but we got excited by some concept art that previewed this week from Paul Gerrard ("Wrath of the Titans," "Battle Los Angeles") and Mike Le Han ("Mrs. Peppercorn's Magical Reading Room"). The duo is stepping in where "My Bloody Valentine 3D" team Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer left off with the new "Hellraiser" remake. The project has been languishing in development hell at Dimension Films for some time. Gerrard and Le Han are pitching a new movie to the studio, and they shared their new artwork on Geek Tyrant. Can the duo deliver the heart and gore necessary to turn this fan favorite franchise around?

New Documentary on Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmer Arriving Soon
Good news for fans of real-life crime and serial killer tales: new documentary "The Jeffrey Dahmer Files" will arrive in 2013. IFC Midnight will distribute the movie that world premiered at Austin's SXSW this year and in Toronto. Jeffrey Dahmer, of course, is the madman that murdered 17 people and dismembered their bodies. The film will explore Dahmer's city of Milwaukee, talking with those "surrounding" him during and after the bizarre and gruesome events. "Recollections from Milwaukee Medical Examiner Jeffrey Jentzen, Police Detective Patrick Kennedy, and neighbor Pamela Bass are interwoven with archival footage and everyday scenes from Dahmer's life, working collectively to disassemble the facade of an ordinary man leading an ordinary existence."

Rob Zombie Goes Crazy Killing Ants in New Commercial
First, Horrormeister Rob Zombie told us we could wash our dainties in new commercial—this one for pesticide company Amdro. The clip shows a happy homemaker gone mad from all the ants she can't seem to get rid of, but luckily Amdro saves the day. Oh, Zombie.

"Antiviral" Joints Toronto International Film Festival
If you've been waiting to find out if Brandon Cronenberg is as disturbing of a filmmaker as his daddy ("Cosmopolis" director, David Cronenberg), all will be revealed at the Toronto International Film Festival where the younger director's new infection flick will play. "Antiviral" imagines what a world would be like where celebrities and rabid fans become obsessed with being sick, and viruses are smuggled and sold. See a strange, new still from the film on Bloody Disgusting, and find out how you can see the film when it comes to Canada.

'Last Exorcism' Sequel Finds Its Demon?
Actor Colby Boothman-Shepard may be the new face of evil in the "Last Exorcism" sequel. Dread Central played detective and noted that the cast listing for "Last Exorcism 2" has been updated, showing Boothman-Shepard as Abalam—the voice of "Last Exorcism's" demon. The new film will follow Nell (Ashley Bell) six months after the original terror tale, moving into a halfway house. She soon realizes the demon that plagued her has unfinished business—and that's all while she's being chased by a group of rogue reverends. There will apparently be an "interesting romantic approach that's spun around Nell's new boyfriend, Chris (Spencer Treat Clark)." Filmmakers are also promising a lot of never-before-seen stuff. Louis Herthum, reprising his role as Nell's father Louis Sweetzer, Spencer Treat Clark, Muse Watson, Andrew Sensenig, Judd Lormand, Julia Garner, Raeden Greer, David Jensen, and Joe Chrest will also star.

Swedish Chiller 'The Hypnotist' Has International Trailer
The first in a planned series of eight films, an international trailer (in Swedish) for Lee Hallstrom's "The Hypnotist" has arrived. Mikael Persbrandt ("The Hobbit") stars as Detective Linna, who investigates a triple homicide, which left a young boy too traumatized to relate the terrible events. After the boy is hypnotized, terrifying things start to happen. Lena Olin ("The Ninth Gate") and Tobias Zilliacus ("Iris") also star in the adaptation of Lars Kepler's novel series. Creepy enough?

  • Jeremy Renner Is Just Happy He Didn't Hurt Himself On 'Bourne Legacy'

One of the action centerpieces from "The Bourne Legacy" was also featured in many of the trailers. In it, stars Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz tear through downtown Manila on a motorcycle and eventually—wait for it—grind down a railing on it.

When MTV News sat down with Renner and director Tony Gilroy, they shared their experiences making the 45-minute action sequence.

"I'm happy that I didn't get injured," Renner said. "I'm pretty proud of that, because I did a lot of work to not get injured."

Gilroy explained that the nature of the sequence didn't allow for them to use many of the tricks from modern action movies. "The trick with the motorcycle chase and the whole chase is it's taking place in Manila, on the streets in real time in a real environment," Gilroy said. "You're not on a set, you're not anyplace else, you can't hide. You don't control anything, so it's like the fifth dimension of difficulty on there, and we were there for months shooting all that on the streets. To make that month happen, you have some people that are [on location] six and seven months beforehand getting stuff ready, building rigs, doing stuff, clearing permits. ... It's a military kind of operation."

Renner favored the more hands-on aspects of the action. "Outside of that, I really enjoyed the hand-to-hand [fight sequences], the stuff you cannot fake, the stuff that cameras can't do any trickery to make look better or worse," he said. "So that's where I put a lot of time spent as well, into the hand-to-hand stuff. It's a great way to sort of work out and not have to work out."

  • Why Everyone Is Better Off If Ben Affleck Passes On 'Justice League'

    Affleck

Usually Movies Blog leaves the duties of philosophizing about the world of comic book movies to our colleagues over at Splash Page, but with the latest word that Warner Bros has approached Ben Affleck about directing "The Justice League," we have felt obligated to voice our concern.

Ben Affleck cannot direct "The Justice League."

Before you jump to conclusions, we need to clarify our objection. Our issues with an Affleck-directed "Justice League" is not steeped in a deeply held respect of the nerdy (which we have). Yes, Affleck's resume as a director does not make him seem like a logical candidate. Sure, we know that Affleck has said he's done with the world of superhero movies. Of course, this announcement from WB seems misguided/laughable/desperate, especially when it comes one day after Marvel announced that Joss Whedon is returning to write and direct "Avengers 2" and to bring about a golden age of geek renaissance. But these aren't our main concerns.

Hollywood desperately needs Affleck to direct anything else but "The Justice League." So far as a director, Affleck has made a very specific kind of movie. "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town" both dealt with crime in Boston, but they did so intelligently and with a medium-sized budget. These were smart, adult movies that could appeal to wide audience without having to pander to it, and "Argo" looks like it could do the same.

Since both of those moderately budgeted movies made money, Affleck has become Warner Bros go-to for projects like "Gangster Squad," "The Man of Steel," and "The Stand," but he has turned down most of those offers, making a good case for his eventual pass on "Justice League."

But that's also why Affleck needs to stay far, far away from "Justice League." The kind of mainstream movie he makes is too rare for him to go in different direction and get lost behind the special effects. While we would be eager to see what he would do with such a challenge, we'd be much more excited to see what he does instead of "The Justice League."

Where do you stand on the Affleck-"Justice League" issue? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter!

  • Jimmy Fallon Not Hosting The Oscars, So Who Should?

    Oscars

Well that was a short-lived dream. Only days after it was first announced that Jimmy Fallon had been approached to host the Academy Awards next year, he has come out and said that it's not going to happen.

"No, I'm not going to do the Oscars," he told Matt Lauer on "Today." "It's an honor to be asked by the Academy, but it's not my year."

Blunt and to the point, just how we like our Jimmy Fallon. But that raises the bigger question: whose year is it? There's still a chance that Lorne Michaels would be willing to produce the show, which narrows down our possibilities. Here are the suggestions we came up with for host of the 85th annual Academy Awards.

    Tina Fey
Can't have Fallon but still looking for someone Michaels has a good relationship with? Well, why not Tina Fey? Sure, she's still a competitor of ABC ("30 Rock," produced by Michaels, airs on NBC), but boy is she a woman everyone loves to love. The Oscars could use a female host next year, and Fey certainly has the personality and fame to take the gig. Plus, she's freaking hilarious.

    Seth Meyers
If Michaels is really itching to bring a "Saturday Night Live" alum to the Oscars stage and Tina Fey doesn't fit the bill, it should be Seth Meyers. The man has proven himself as a great host, be it on "SNL's" Weekend Update or as a contender to host opposite Kelly Ripa on "Live with Kelly." We'd take Fey over Meyers any day of the week (sorry Seth), but he would easily be our second choice of the "SNL" alums.

    Jon Hamm
Jon Hamm has been everywhere recently, and that's how we like him. Between blowing us away on "Mad Men," making surprise appearances on "The Daily Show" and even appearing in an episode of "Metalocalypse," the actor has shown that he can not only be esteemed but hilarious. Well, what better mix does one need to be deemed an Oscar host? Plus, Hamm looks damn fine in a suit and is an "SNL" regular.

    Emma Stone
Emma Stone is charming. Incredibly, overpoweringly charming. In fact, we'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who hasn't been won over by the actress's impressive blend of comedy and intelligence that makes the 23-year-old one of the top actresses in Hollywood right now. If the Academy is trying to rope in a younger audience with a popular yet established actress, they shouldn't have gone for Anne Hathaway: they should have gone for Stone. If anyone who is below the age of 30 will be able to keep us engaged for a full three hours, it's her.

    Jimmy Kimmel
While we understand that Jimmy Kimmel can't technically host the Oscars because he has a contract with the Emmys, boy would we love him to. In fact, he's our number one pick for hosting the Oscars. Granted, then we wouldn't be able to see his awesome post-Oscar special, but it would still be worth the trade off. Maybe one day, Jimmy. Maybe one day.

Who do you hope hosts the Academy Awards next year? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!
