  • Steve Martin Provokes Palindromes In Today's Twitter-Wood

    Steve Martin

Here's a little history lesson for you. This quote that legendary actor Steve Martin tweeted is actually, "Able was I ere I saw Elba." It's a palindrome, which means if you were to read the sentence from right to left instead of left to right, it would say the same thing. The palindrome was created as something Napoleon Bonaparte might've said when he was exiled to the Island of Elsa.

So, maybe Martin was exiled to an island off of L.A. called Bubba? Or perhaps it was an auto correct? Those things happen, you know. Your guess is as good as ours.

The rest of today's tweets bring you an array of topics from the stars about parenting, food, and Nickleback. Oh, and if you haven't already heard, it's Friday the 13th. Maybe Martin's Bubba is a ghost that's haunting him? Hey, it's possible. Don't doubt Friday the 13th and learn the hard way about its power like Damon Lindelof did in April 13, 2012's Twitter-Wood. See what we mean after the jump. TGIF!

Friday the 13th 1: @DamonLindelof This superstitious Friday the 13th thing is hogw--ARRRGHBONKCRASH!!! (I'm falling down stairs)
    -Damon Lindelof, producer ("Lost," "Prometheus")

Friday the 13th 2: @TheJoeLynch Happy Friday the 13th! Instead of getting slaughtered for naughty hijinx,do the safe thing & see CABIN IN THE WOODS.It will save your life.
-Joe Lynch, director ("Wrong Turn 2: Dead End")

Food 1: @kristenschaaled Chipoltle's corn is the same color as it's sour cream.
-Kristen Schaal, comedian, actress ("Dinner for Schmucks")

Food 2: @emmyrossum You know you're in the south when the local coffee joint is selling a "Butter Rum Muffin" for breakfast. How heavenly does that sound?!
-Emmy Rossum ("The Phantom of the Opera")

Parenting 1: @dhewlett Not sure if it's particularly good parenting, but the threat of dire wolves works wonders on children who won't eat their breakfast.
-David Hewlett, actor ("Rise of the Plant of the Apes," "Stargate: Atlantis")

Parenting 2: @MillaJovovich so my 4 yr, old (speaking 2 her british nonni) said that "when u get old, u don't need candy, u jst need gin". Aye, good northern girl.
-Milla Jovovich, actress ("The Fifth Element," "Resident Evil")

@nottjmiller Apologies if my tweets were a bit abstract last night. Nickelback was in Grand Rapids, so I was drinking to forget...That Nickelback exists.
    -T.J. Miller, comedian

    @michaelianblack Leave Ashley's Judd's puffy face alone!!!
-Michael Ian Black, comedian, actor ("Run, Fatboy, Run")

  • 'Cabin In The Woods', 'Three Stooges', And More: Double Feature Friday!

    Cabin Zoolander

"The Cabin in the Woods" almost defeats the purpose of the Double Feature Friday this week, since the only sensible thing to do is see it twice. But if you are interested in catching some non-"Cabin" movies this week, here are some recommendations to keep you busy.

But seriously, see "The Cabin in the Woods."

"The Cabin in the Woods" & "Zoolander"
This one is tricky. Like all other situations when discussing "Cabin in the Woods," I really have to measure my words here. There is one joke in "Cabin" that is set up and pays off particularly brilliantly. It has something vaguely to do "Zoolander." I won't say how and spoil the fun, but if you see "Cabin" this weekend, you'll know what I'm talking about. The real point is "See the movie." It doesn't matter what you watch before or after. See "Cabin in the Woods," and then see it again.

"The Three Stooges" & "Dumb & Dumber"
Back before Bobby and Peter Farrelly were putting together odd remakes of the Three Stooges, they were at the top of the comedy game. Back in the 90s and early 2000s, they put together a string of hits that started with "Dumb & Dumber" in 1994 and ended with "Me, Myself & Irene" in 2000. They were filthy, and they were hilarious. During press for "Stooges" the Brother Farrelly revealed that they were revisiting Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne in a true sequel to the original. Instead of checking out their latest, go back and watch the brothers' first film to see what we're missing out on these days.

    "Lockout" & "The Proposition"
Guy Pearce is awesome. There is little way to argue around it. It's simple. He kicks ass. His talents are clearly on display as the best part of "Lockout," but if you're interested in checking out a Guy Pearce at his most raw, seek out John Hillcoat's "The Proposition." In it, Pearce plays Charlie Burns, one third of a band of sibling outlaws, who must hunt down and kill his older brother to save the younger one. It's perhaps the most brutal western ever put on film. Also, watch out for the scene with the spear. It's a tough one to shake.

What are you watching this weekend? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter!

If one movie is never enough for you and you're looking for a flick to get you in the mood for this week's new release, >Double Feature Friday is here to help. Every week we break down the new releases and pair them with older movies that you should catch before heading out to the theater. Or just skip the new movie and check out the classic we recommend.

  • Daniel Craig Talks James Bond's Relationship With M In 'Skyfall'

Not much is known about the latest James Bond movie, "Skyfall," and we likely aren't going to find out any more plot details any time soon. MTV News recently visited the set of the film and chatted with Daniel Craig who maintained the ultra-secretive nature of the production by refusing to spill any new elements of the story. But what he would talk about are the various relationships Bond has with the other characters in the film.

The little we do know about "Skyfall" tells us that Judi Dench's character M gets to come to the forefront in this flick.

According to the official plot synopsis, Bond's loyalty to M is threatened when a secret from her past comes back to haunt her. It's up to him to track down and get rid of the threat in order to protect MI6 and the world. Craig said he and Dench had a lot of fun having more time to film scenes together.

"They're very close, and they kind of basically go on an adventure together," he said. "She gets out in the field. Judi, she'll tell you, she usually films most of her stuff in the studio like this while we're all off in sort of some wonderful location, and she gets to go with us this time."

But Bond's relationship with M isn't the only one to play a big role in the film. Javier Bardem's character, a villain named Silva, is also apparently someone who has a significant relationship with Bond.

"We kind of got Javier to come in and do that which, again, which just gives the whole film a sort of richer content," Craig said. When asked if Silva will give 007 a run for his money, Craig quickly answered, "He certainly does, yes."

But to Craig, James Bond is not a hero, and that's why he finds the character so intriguing.

"I think he's a flawed character," Craig said. "His attitude towards women and his attitude towards the world is very dubious, but I think that's interesting, and I think if you throw him into a situation with really strong characters and you watch them battle it out, then I think it just makes for interesting watching."

    "Skyfall" hits theaters November 9.

  • Five Reasons To See 'Cabin In The Woods'

    Cabin in the Woods

It's here! It's here! It's finally here! After years of collecting dust on a shelf, "The Cabin in the Woods" is finally getting the wide theatrical release it deserved ever since the idea sprung into Joss Whedon's wonderfully twisted mind.

Hopefully you won't need any additional convincing to go check it out this weekend, but if you do, here are our Five Reasons to see "The Cabin in the Woods" this weekend.

    The Secrets
Oh, the spoilers! Everyone's talking about the spoilers. "Read nothing." "Watch nothing." "Talk to no one." It all seems a little ridiculous at this point, but there is a reason for it all. When it comes to "The Cabin in the Woods" the old adage applies. It's not about the destination. It's about the journey. Yes, there is a "final" secret to "Cabin in the Woods," but the way each secret is carefully parsed out by the screenplay makes the movie as great as it is. The world of the film becomes clearer and clearer with each scene and eventually you see the big picture, but the whole thing is one hell of a ride.

    Bradley Cooper and Richard Jenkins
The two middle-management working stiffs from the trailer are definitely the oddest part of the setup for those who haven't seen the whole film. Their back story provides most of the material for the reveals, but it should be pointed out that the actors playing them absolutely steal the show. Jenkins and Cooper have been character actors in Hollywood for decades, and here they're given so much great material to work with that you're always looking forward to their next scene.

    Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard
A large part of the draw of "Cabin in the Woods" has to be the pedigree attached to the screenplay. Whedon and Goddard have racked up more geek cred than most writers could ever earn in a lifetime. With works like "Buffy," "Lost" and "Firefly" between them, you just know you're in for something special, and there are elements of the story that could be easily traced back to a story in the past. There's a love of monsters, a mysterious door in the floor and dialogue that's wittier than it should be in a horror movie. In short, it's a movie for the fans.

    The Love of Movies
At the same time, "Cabin in the Woods" is a movie for people who love movies. It's a movie that should be enjoyed and taken apart in conversations over the next few days. There's so much meat on this bone that half of the fun will be dissecting it with everyone who enjoyed it as much as you did. Even if you aren't a fan of the horror genre, there's so much to enjoy in "Cabin in the Woods" that the distinction shouldn't throw off the casual viewer.

    Because It's Fun
That may sound strange. We always go to the movies to have fun, right? Well, the actual thrill of sitting in a theater has faded a bit recently. You may have liked that movie you just saw in 3D, but did you have fun? Was there a palpable excitement in theater? Probably not, but you're likely to feel it if you see "Cabin in the Woods" in a packed house with the right crowd. Trust us on this one.

We break down the weekend box office on the newest episode of Talk Nerdy!

  • Guy Pearce's Five Most Badass Movie Roles

    by Ryan Rigley

Despite the fact that Guy Pearce has appeared in several Oscar-winning films, including "The King's Speech" and "The Hurt Locker," it seems like the vast majority of people still have a hard time recognizing him. But hopefully, with this summer's "Lockout" and "Prometheus," the Australian actor will finally gain the recognition that he deserves.

In "Lockout," which comes out this weekend, Guy Pearce plays a man known as Snow, who is wrongfully accused of conspiracy to commit espionage against the United States. Luckily for Snow, all charges will be dropped if he can manage to rescue the president's daughter from a prison located in outer space. Oh, and the space prison has been taken over by the world's most dangerous inmates.

This isn't the first time Pearce has been put up against nearly impossible odds. Throughout his career, Pearce has played a number of memorable badasses. Here's a list of the five most badass roles that Guy Pearce has played so far.

» Charlie Burns - "The Proposition"
In this Australian western, set in the 1880s, Pearce plays a ruthless outlaw who is tasked with finding and killing his older brother, Arthur, in order to free his little brother, Mikey, from the jail in which he's being held captive. Called "The Dog Man" due to his ferocious nature, neither the police nor the Aboriginals dare set foot near Arthur's camp. But like we always say, it takes a badass to catch a badass.

» Alexander Hartdegen - "The Time Machine"
After his wife is killed by a robber, Alexander Hartdegen devotes his life to inventing a functioning time machine in order to prevent her from being murdered. Once complete, Hartdegen uses the time machine to travel into the future and figure out how to alter his wife's destiny. Traveling to the year 802,701, Hartdegen encounters a terrifying race of telepathic humanoids called the Morlocks and eventually kills every single one of them.

» Fernand Mondego - "The Count of Monte Cristo"
Based on the book of the same name, Guy Pearce plays the main antagonist of this film. In order to win the hand of the woman he loves, Fernand Mondego betrays his best friend and has him wrongfully imprisoned. He then proceeds to marry his best friend's girl and secure a position of power for himself. While Fernand may not technically be a "badass," he is certainly bad and an ass.

    » Ed Exley - "L.A. Confidential"
Taking place in the 50s, "L.A. Confidential" revolves around three policemen who are investigating a series of homicides at a local coffee shop. Out of the three, Ed Exley is probably the most determined of the bunch. As the son of a legendary LAPD Inspector, Exley is smart, professional, and effective. It's later revealed that the majority of his ambition stems from the unsolved murder of his father.

    » Leonard Shelby - "Memento"
Having literally no short-term memory, Leonard Shelby uses notes, Polaroid photos and tattoos on his own body to track down the man that he believes killed his wife. Even though Leonard has a serious case of anterograde amnesia (which means he is unable to store new memories), that doesn't stop him from hunting down the man whom he calls "John G" with every waking moment of his life. "Memento" is also Christopher Nolan's first feature length film, which is pretty badass in and of itself.

  • Exclusive 'Bad Ass' Clip: Don't Mess With Danny Trejo

The viral video of a fist fight on an Oakland bus became an internet sensation and launched the meme known as "Epic Beard Man." Now it is the inspiration for a new movie called—what else?—"Bad Ass."

In our exclusive clip from "Bad Ass," Danny Trejo takes on the role of the Epic Beard Man and, in a more friendly spin on the internet legend, defends an elderly public transmit rider from two punks. Also, Trejo's definitely wearing a fanny pack, so if you're not interested in anything else, we'd still highly recommend checking out the clip.

Check out the video above and find out more about "Bad Ass" after the jump.

In "Bad Ass," Trejo plays Frank Vega, a Vietnam vet that doesn't get the ticker tape parade when he returns from overseas. Instead, he drifts around the city, taking the bus, just like everyone else. When he becomes an internet sensation after a video of him standing up for an elderly man, Frank makes the jump to instant celebrity.

But when his best friend is murdered and the police don't follow through with a proper investigation, Frank takes the law into his own hands and shows the world how big of a bad ass he really is.

Ron Perlman and Charles S. Dutton co-star.

"Bad Ass" premieres in theaters and on VOD April 13.

  • Five More Cabins In The Woods

    by Ryan Rigley

Don't go in the woods. Seriously, it's dangerous. Especially if you're staying in a cabin. With the release of "The Cabin In The Woods," audiences across the country are in for a clever twist on a tried and true staple of the horror genre. Starring Kristen Connolly and Chris Hemsworth, "Cabin In The Woods" follows a group of five friends as they journey to a remote cabin in the woods for a little rest and relaxation. Unfortunately for these rowdy teenagers, the cabin in the woods isn't exactly what it appears to be.

Fans of the horror genre will be quick to realize that the "cabin in the woods" storyline isn't exactly reinventing the wheel. There have been a wide array of "cabin in the woods" storylines over the years, probably because it's just such a creepy concept. The thought of being alone in the middle of the woods with some sort of maniacal killer on the loose would send shivers down anyone's spine.

While not being a direct parody, "The Cabin In The Woods" takes this horror movie cliche and flips it upside down. Here's a look at some of the more popular "cabin in the woods" movies that "The Cabin In The Woods" pays homage to.

    » "Friday the 13th"
The first in a series of many, the original "Friday the 13th" may not feature everyone's favorite hockey mask-wearing slasher but it does feature a cabin in the woods! Taking place at the former location of Camp Crystal Lake, a small group of horny camp counselors fall victim to Jason Voorhees' psychotic mother. Despite their best efforts to reopen the camp, each one of them is murdered in an exponentially gory fashion.

» "Evil Dead" & "Evil Dead II"
Overall, these two movies are very similar. Both of them revolve around a few friends traveling to a cabin in the woods and then being attacked by mysterious demonic forces. They both feature Bruce Campbell, who is more or less playing the exact same role. The primary difference between the two movies is the tone, the first one being serious and the sequel being extremely campy. Also, in the sequel, Bruce Campbell has a chainsaw for a hand.

    » "Cabin Fever"
Eli Roth's "Cabin Fever" is the director's homage to 80's-style horror films. Drawing inspiration from the likes of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Evil Dead," the film features five college graduates who rent out a cabin in the woods and then become infected with a deadly flesh-eating virus. This, of course, draws the attention of the homicidal locals, who weren't that fond of the graduates to begin with.

    » "Antichrist"
Although technically not a horror movie, Lars Von Trier's controversial film definitely shares a few key horror movie conventions. After the death of their child, Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg retreat to a cabin in the woods for some alone time. However, much to the dismay of Willem Dafoe, Charlotte Gainsbourg starts to exhibit increasingly violent sexually behavior which ultimately leads to Dafoe getting his testicles smashed by a huge wooden log. Ouch.

» "Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil"
Similar to "The Cabin In The Woods," "Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil" takes the "cabin in the woods" idea and turns it inside out. Shown from the "demented hillbilly" perspective, Tucker and Dale are two dimwitted country boys that travel to the woods with the hopes of renovating their vacation cabin. Simultaneously, a group of preppy college kids also happen to be vacationing in the very same woods. What ensues is a hilarious sequence of misunderstandings and accidental suicides that confuse the hell out of Tucker and Dale and result in the untimely deaths of most of the college kids.

  • Five Reasons To See 'Lockout'

    Lockout

A prison break. In space. How bad can that be? Your mileage may vary, but it's hard not to at least appreciate the premise of "Lockout," the EuropaCorp action flick entering theaters this weekend.

Guy Pearce stars in the film as Snow, a former special forces operative now working on his own. When he's set up for a crime he didn't commit and subsequently left facing a drastically long prison sentence as a result, Snow's presented with a mission as his one last chance to free his future: go into outer space, infiltrate the sacked maximum security prison MS One, and save the president's daughter from the inmates now running the asylum. Needless to say, that order is easier said than done, but it's enough to fill out a 95-minute movie.

"Lockout," directed by James Mather and Stephen St. Leger, has an amazing cast and an amazing premise. Even if it never fully lives up to its potential, there are certainly still reasons to see it. We've got five of them after the break.

    Let It Snow
The salty ex-operative is the star of the show, and with good reason. Snow is a smart-mouthed, highly capable agent that doesn't give a you-know-what. He wields guns with amazing expertise, gets himself inside and outside of sticky situations like no one's business, and cracks wise like the best of them. Snow is a fun character well worth spending an hour and a half getting to know — just don't even think about asking him his first name.

    The Good Guy
Snow isn't written to his fullest potential, but Pearce elevates the character to great heights. The "Memento" and "LA Confidential" star is, in my opinion, one of the greatest living actors working today. Pearce transcends occasionally clunky material to deliver a hardcore badass that you truly believe in. It doesn't hurt that he whipped himself into bodybuilding shape in order to become Snow. The character is great, but that's not the reason to see "Lockout" — it's Pearce's dedication to the role that's truly the highlight.

    The Bad Guys
There are actually some pretty memorable baddies in "Lockout," most especially the heavily tattooed wild man Hydell, played by Joseph Gilgun. He has a horrible infatuation with Maggie Grace's Emilie Warnock, and you're constantly afraid of what Hydell is going to do next. His brother, Alex, is the leader of the prison revolt, and has his fair share of moments as well. There's another villain in the mix as well, though we won't spoil his/her identity here. Suffice it to say, I'm a big fan of this actor, so seeing him/her in any role is always something I'm down for.

    Prison. In Space.
You just have to applaud the premise. A prison breakout in space? That notion alone is enough to get my ass into the theater nine times out of ten. It's worth taking a look at, if only to see how that premise actually holds up during a 95 minute movie.

    Another Chance
Repeating what I mentioned earlier, I don't think "Lockout" fully lives up to its potential. It pulls its punches in certain places and tips its hand prematurely in others. But it has a great central character in Snow, an even better performer in Guy, and an imaginative world to play around in. Pearce's Snow is a character I would gladly, gladly see more of. If "Lockout" serves any purpose, it's to show the moviegoing masses that Pearce as a space bound badass is something we need to see again, and soon.
