  • Kanye West Denies Calling Kim Kardashian 'My Beyonce'

Rapper tells Us Weekly, 'Come on now, that doesn't even sound like me.'
    By Gil Kaufman

Kanye West has said and done a lot of crazy things over the years. But there's one thing that's "Way Too Cold" even for him: comparing his budding relationship with reality TV staple Kim Kardashian to the long-running romance of good pal and Throne mate Jay-Z with wife Beyoncé.

West, who has kept a near-total media blackout over the past few years, broke that silence on Tuesday (April 17) to US Magazine, to deny ever referring to Kardashian as "my Beyoncé."

"Of course there are a lot of media inaccuracies surrounding this past couple of weeks, especially the 'She's my Beyoncé' quote," West, 34, told the magazine. "I would never compare anyone to my friend's wife." West's whirlwind romance with the recently-divorced Kardashian, 31, has been a staple of the tabloid press for the past few weeks and the allegedly fake Bey quote even made its way into a "Saturday Night Live" skit this past weekend.

And while West has not spoken publicly about his sudden love match with his longtime friend and spotlight lover Kardashian has been unusually quiet
about her latest celebrity hook-up, Kanye said the overheated hype machine has gotten ahead of itself. "Come on now, that doesn't even sound like me," West said about the alleged Beyoncé comparison, which Us originally reported, attributing it to an unnamed source close to the MC. "If I don't say something in a rap or on Twitter, it's not true."

Of course, he has already set his crush to verse in the tune "Way Too Cold" (formerly known as "Theraflu"
), where he rhymes, "I fell in love with Kim around the same time she fell in love with him."

  • G. Dep, Ex-Bad Boy Rapper, Found Guilty Of Murder

He faces 15 years to life in prison when he's sentenced May 8.
    By Nadeska Alexis

Former Bad Boy rapper G. Dep, born Trevell Coleman, was convicted of second-degree murder in New York on Tuesday (April 17) following a trial that began after Coleman admitted to killing a man in 1993 during a botched robbery attempt.

In late 2010, Coleman came forward to confess that he'd shot a man, identified by police as John Henkel, nearly two decades earlier in Harlem. According to Coleman's story, he attempted to rob a man on a Harlem corner, then shot him and rode off on a bicycle, not knowing whether the victim had survived.

Opening statements in the trial were made last week, on April 10, and one day later, Coleman dropped a bombshell on prosecutors by changing up his story. He claimed that while he did shoot someone, it was not Henkel.

Despite the change in story, the prosecution stood firm, contending that Henkel was the only victim who fit the details of Coleman's confession. "Eighteen years ago, the defendant made a calculated decision to steal from, shoot and kill an innocent person on the street," Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said in a statement.

Trevell Coleman is expected to face a minimum sentence of 15 years to life in prison on May 8.

After the jury delivered a guilty verdict for the 37-year-old, defense lawyer Anthony Ricco praised his client's efforts to be honest. "He has a conscience and a heart, and his conscience and his heart brought him to where he is today," Ricco told reporters after the trial. "He's probably making the most powerful statement a rapper of his era can make, which is to be accountable and to do the right thing."

Coleman saw a brief rise to fame beginning in 1998 with an appearance on "The Mall" from Gang Starr's Moment of Truth album. Later that year he signed to Diddy's Bad Boy Records, and in 2001 he dropped his debut album, Child of the Ghetto, which spawned the hit single "Special Delivery." Still, the album failed to be a commercial success, and although he followed up with the 2004 mixtape The Deputy: The Sheriff Is Back in Town Volume 1, a slew of arrests, ranging from drug charges to grand larceny, put an end to his career for good.

  • Imagine Dragons Go Big With 'It's Time' Video, But Still Eat Burritos

Fast-rising Las Vegas band — MTV PUSH Artist of the Week — premiere first video on MTV.
    By James Montgomery

Imagine Dragons have been waiting three years for today: On Tuesday (April 17), they premiered their video for "It's Time," the breakout (currently at #17 and climbing on rock radio) single from their Continued Silence EP. The clip represents the first fruits of their new deal with Interscope Records, and, for a band that has taken its time to get to this point, well, they're definitely enjoying the moment.

"We had this idea in our heads for a long time, but, you know, we could never make it," frontman Dan Reynolds told MTV News. "Until we found a director who could bring it to life. We went out to Barstow [California] — which is between Las Vegas and L.A., and we've made that drive many times, because we're from Vegas — and we shot it on a dry lake bed. It was our first time doing a music video, so it was a really awesome experience."

And while the clip — basically an updated take on the old "Jack and the Beanstalk" tale, with the band starring the band as mystic travelers in a very dark world, carrying a very special parcel — certainly looks cool, it also works as a rather apt metaphor for Imagine Dragons' rise. Since forming in Vegas in 2009, Imagine Dragon (the current MTV PUSH Artist of the Week) have been on one long voyage; one that's certainly had its share of ups and downs along the way.

"I remember one gig [where] we were playing a casino, in Vegas, and it was a really small stage," guitarist Wayne Sermon smiled. "We played a four-hour set — we'd do those two to three times a week — and we were exhausted, and Dan passes out in the middle of the last song, falls on the drum set, the drums go everywhere, and it was horrible, but we finished the song."

"And all these drunk guys were like, 'Wooo!' " Reynolds laughed. "But it didn't hurt; I was so tired, it was sort of nice to have a little break."

So with their first proper video out in the world, and plans to begin work on their full-length debut already in the works, Imagine Dragons continue to march on. And in that regard, things are still the same as they've ever been.

"It's crazy. We've been a band for three years, living on the road, eating bean burritos every day, and we're still eating bean burritos every day, but it's been incredible to see the support that we've gotten," Reynolds said. "We really owe so much to our fans who, from the very beginning, have been sharing the music. And we live in a world where things can happen so quickly, and we're glad we've had three years to really prepare. ... We've been doing it for a little while, and it feels good ... and right."

  • Fat Joe Compares Mobb Deep To Gang Starr

Both groups represent 'purest forms of hip-hop music,' Joe tells MTV News, commenting on recent Mobb Deep drama.
    By Rob Markman

Mobb Deep's musical legacy is cemented. There aren't many groups in rap who could match Havoc and Prodigy's reputation for crafting unfiltered street music, so when Mobb Deep appeared to be in turmoil last week, fans feared the worst. Fat Joe, for one, is thrilled that all the drama is behind the Queens, New York, duo.

Joe Crack actually likens the Mobb to another pivotal rap duo, Gang Starr. The group, which consisted of DJ Premier and late rapper Guru, was responsible for quite a few classic singles, including "Step in the Arena" and "DWYCK." Mobb Deep, of course, also have favorites under their belt, like 1995's "Shook Ones Pt. II" and the Lil' Kim-assisted "Quiet Storm" remix.

"Mobb Deep is equivalent to Gang Starr with being one of the purest forms of hip-hop music," Fat Joe told MTV News after a taping of MTV2's upcoming "Hip Hop Squares." "Whenever you want to go do an ill, hard-core hip-hop song that crosses over in the clubs, anybody who makes it is like, 'Yo, this is like "Shook Ones," this is like "Quiet Storm." ' They the kings of that."

On April 9, some pretty vicious messages directed at Prodigy were sent from Havoc's now-defunct Twitter account. The messages threatened physical violence and questioned Prodigy's sexuality. Sources close to Mobb Deep initially confirmed to MTV News that Hav's account wasn't hacked, but later that evening Havoc released a statement saying that he lost his phone and declaring his allegiance to the group and Prodigy. "To all Mobb Deep fans: it's business as usual! It's Mobb Deep all day," the statement read.

On Friday the group even attended a Knicks game together and released a photo, silencing speculation about a disconnect. Fat Joe is just glad to see the duo as a unified front. "I really don't know none of the details," he said. "If they were to break up, it would be a sad day for hip-hop because we love Mobb Deep as a group, as a fan."

  • Is Tupac Coachella Hologram The Future Of Touring?

'Some tools should only be used sparingly,' veteran manager Danny Goldberg says of the technology.
    By Gil Kaufman

    Tupac hologram at Coachella
    Photo: Getty Images

Sure, the laser Pink Floyd show is totally awesome and the Beatles cover band totally nailed "Penny Lane." But after the rapturous response to the Tupac
 Shakur hologram
at Coachella, you can be sure phones are ringing off the hook this week all over Hollywood with calls to the Digital Domain wizards behind the stunt.

Think of the possibilities: The Doors resurrected with a young Jim Morrison, Nirvana on tour with a virtual Kurt Cobain or a resurrected Tupac and Biggie sharing a stage for a greatest hits show. But does the success of the Tupac mini-set mean that holograms are the touring industry's version of 3-D movies?

"I thought it was great in that particular moment," said veteran manager Danny Goldberg, who has worked with everyone from Nirvana and Led Zeppelin to Sonic Youth and the Hives, who he was on hand to see at Coachella. "They were evoking a certain nostalgia for [the era of] gangsta rap and I thought it worked in that context and was exciting and special. I think it's not something that would be particularly easy for another artist to emulate."

Goldberg said certain things work best the first time and if someone else was to try a holo-show they would have to find a way to make it new again, otherwise it might just seem cheesy and derivative. Part of that potential pitfall is the legacy of the artist. For example, if Paul McCartney announced a tour with a virtual John Lennon, Beatles fans would likely see that as being in bad taste and not show up. "It's another tool in the toolbox of technology, but some tools should only be used sparingly," he said, adding that he thought the execution at Coachella was stellar.

Making the trick work on a larger scale, or even on a full-blown tour
is unlikely given the unique aspects of the Coachella gig. "Part of what made that effective was that it was a surprise, coupled with authentic living, breathing superstars in Dre and Snoop and not over-relying on it," said Goldberg. "I wouldn't look at it as the beginning of a big trend, but as an amazing moment."

Fans may get another chance to experience the trick when the upcoming Cirque du Soleil-created Michael Jackson show in Las Vegas opens next year. While a spokesperson for the Jackson estate would not confirm that the MJ show would use similar technology, when MTV News spoke to Cirque President and CEO Daniel Lamarre in 2010 he said that, "The new technology that we want to bring to [the permanent] Vegas [show] will be more theatrical," promising that fans "will see Vegas become the home of Michael Jackson and people will come from all over the world to experience the uniqueness of the technology that we want to bring there." At the time, Lamarre hinted at the use of "3-D technologies and hologram technologies to allow people to see Michael Jackson onstage."

Also on hand to watch holo-Pac at Coachella was Dave Brooks, managing editor of live entertainment trade magazine Venues Today. He said he could definitely see the technology employed in several ways. "Obviously the posthumous thing is one idea," he said. "Think about the Michael Jackson Cirque tour, or the Who bringing back a hologram of [late drummer] Keith Moon. [Bringing back] dead band members could be a way to enhance the show and plenty of people would be impressed to see a hologram of Keith Moon."

As for whether an all-hologram tour could win over audiences, based on what he's seen so far, Brooks said it wasn't likely ... yet. "Anything is possible, but from that one glimpse of the technology I can't say it's enough to make a whole tour of just that." In fact, he said having the hologram Tupac on stage for two songs was great, but it would likely have gotten tired if the West Coast legend had hung around all night.

Given the amount of all-star collaborations among pop and hip-hop stars these days, Brooks said the other way he could see the technology deployed is to briefly bring some of those one-off singles to life in concert. "Because of the nature of pop music these days, with collaborations like Calvin Harris and Rihanna and Alicia Keys and Jay-Z, this could definitely add a 'wow' factor," he said. "It's one thing to have [the other singer] on a screen, but if you could have them there in 3-D it would impress more."

Would you attend a hologram tour? Let us know in the comments!

  • T.I. Given More Travel Freedom On Probation

Grand Hustle CEO is dubbed a 'model probationer' by probation officer, and judge agrees.
    By Carter Maness

    Photo: Chris McKay/ Getty Images

It appears the second time's the charm for T.I. Released last fall after an 11-month sentence for violating probation on his 2009 gun conviction, the Atlanta rapper has been on such good behavior that a judge has approved an expanded out-of-state travel allowance for up to 12 days at a time.

According to TMZ, the request, submitted by T.I.'s probation officer, details that the rapper has been a "model probationer" since he was released from an Atlanta halfway house last September. By following all guidelines and completing a required drug and alcohol counseling program, Tip has been granted more freedom to travel and do business in other states.

The expanded freedoms come at a convenient time, as T.I. is nearing the release of his eighth full-length album, Trouble Man. "The album is about 75 percent done. We got a lot of hot, old-school, vintage T.I. records on there," Tip told MTV News back in December while promoting his F--- Da City Up mixtape. "We got those over-the-top crossover records as well, big features and whatnot that we plan on putting into play. I got one with Akon, did a few records with Rico Love. Man, I got records with just about everybody," he said. "We just putting it together, we done did about 70 records."

Trouble Man will include features from T.I.'s ever-expanding Grand Hustle empire. In February, he made some new additions to his roster in the form of Australian rapper Iggy Azalea and British rapper Chip, plus a joint venture with Houston MC Trae Tha Truth and his ABN label. "We're gonna work alongside each other for a common goal and release this Trae Tha Truth project," T.I. said of the deal with Trae. "When cats [who are] cut from a certain cloth give their word and shake their hand, that's what makes it a done deal — the ink is just a formality."

  • Which 'Twilight' Scenes Could Use A Revamp?

As Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart go back for re-shoots, MTV News asks fans what scenes need a makeover.
    By Kara Warner

    Photo: Summit Entertainment

In light of the news that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are headed back to the "Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" set for a few re-shoots, this week's Twilight Tuesday posed the question: If you could have any scene in any of the previous films re-shot, which one would you revamp? (Pun intended!)

As always, the members of the knowledgeable and passionate "Twilight" fan community responded to the query with gusto. Some folks want to see extended versions of their favorite scenes, some are still displeased with the book-to-film adaptation in certain areas and some requested they re-shoot entire films altogether. But there are two scenes that a majority of fans agreed could use a makeover: the meadow scene in "Twilight" and Edward and Bella's reunion in "New Moon." Here's a sampling of our favorite responses and suggestions:

@Cycyn: The meadow scene. It was THE ONE scene they had to capture perfectly (it was Steph's dream) and it's really bad.

@Cordyq45: Eclipse- Bella getting on Jake's bike in the school parking lot. Never shoulda happened.

@dazzle715: The scene where Bella kisses Jacob in Eclipse, instead she would just push him off the mountain.

@pinkpixiechick: Edward and Bella's reunion in New Moon. Wish it was more like the book version. Too short and passively handled in the film. I'm not a fan of how Melissa Rosenberg writes Edward & Bella scenes. Their reunion in her bedroom (New Moon) felt very rushed.

@MeganC79: The meadow scene by far. It's the most important scene in Twilight and was completely botched in the movie. Huge disappointment.

@Brendaof6: The Twilight scene when the "bad" vamps crash the game and Cullens get defensive. Liked at first but now I giggle every time!

@Melly1901: Twilight's meadow scene. Wasn't how I imagined it. I wish they added the Twi lunch scenes between Ed/Bella too...

@KansasCityGypsy: "I know what you are." "Say it." "Vampire." Such bad acting.

@Mama_Cougar: Good LORD that heinous "Wolves at the lumbermill" scene from Breaking Dawn. The Eclipse Forest Frolic is a close second.

@robownsme: Bella's speech at the end of Eclipse and her riding away with Jacob on the motorcyle. Both scenes were ridiculous and horrible.

@maineemilyhoon: New Moon - the post-Italy scenes. In the book it's so swoonily romantic...in the movie it's just dull.

What other scenes could use a re-vamp? Tell us in the comments or hit me up @karawarner on Twitter

  • Kimbra Talks About Suiting Up For 'Warrior' With Mark Foster, A-Trak

Singer ventures into dance-music realm for the power track, which was created for Converse's 3 Artists 1 Song series.
    By Jocelyn Vena

    Kimbra
    Photo: MTV News

Before Kimbra hooked up with Foster the People leading man Mark Foster and well A-Trak for "Warrior," she had just "dabbled" in the dance music realm. But on the new track, she plants all four firmly on the floor for the track.

"It's refreshing to kind of go into different genres, sometimes when you've been working on your own stuff for so long," Kimbra told MTV News recently. Currently riding high off the success of her Gotye collaboration, "Somebody That I Used To Know," the singer will release her album, Vows, Stateside in May.

She ended up with Foster and A-Trak at the request of Converse for their 3 Artists, 1 Song series, which brings together artists to work on music and a coinciding music video to help launch the brand's latest shoe line.

And it's not just the song that's big, but also the message of the song. Kimbra offers up a girl-power battle cry on the chorus, singing, "You're just pushing me down, pushing me down, pushing me down/(They tell you, 'Trust your head, be like men' but never feel like you're good enough)/You're just crushing me down, crushing me down, crushing me down/(They wanna take our light, make us fight, but never cry for the ones you love!)/(I'll be your warrior, warrior)."

That in-your-face feeling was actually made with very little face-to-face contact between the three artists, as they were all on separate continents when they mad the song.

"I think that was fun for us all to have boundaries in that sense and not be able to be in the same room," she told MTV News. "But it was kind of fun and we did get the chance to sit down together at one point and that was really great after talking on the phone for so long to finally be in the same room together."

The power of the song's lyrics is mirrored in the video, which features the trio as luchadores battling it out for supremacy. And, despite several shots where the trio is all together, Kimbra let us in on a big secret.

"So the video shoot was challenging because I couldn't be in L.A. for the time of the shoot," she said. "So I think I was in Europe at the time, so we organized for my shoot to be done to a green screen. There's a little bit of face replacement in there as well. I'm telling you all the secrets!

"But it's fun. It's cool that it all looked continuous enough," she added. "I'm a bit bummed I didn't get to do the round-house kicks. That was a stunt double. It was really fun. I always say to them, I could have done [the kicks]. They jumped to conclusions there."

  • Exclusive: Kaskade And Skrillex Team Up For 'Lick It' Video

Kaskade tells MTV News the duo did 'the unexpected' for the clip, which premiered Tuesday on MTV.com.
    By Akshay Bhansali

    Kaskade
    Photo: Getty Images

When Kaskade first revealed that he and Skrillex had produced a song together, fans, artists and critics alike eagerly anticipated the event. Just what would a Kaskade/Skrill team-up sound like?

The result was "Lick It," the Fire and Ice standout that seamlessly integrates both of their sounds.

"Collaborating with Skrillex for the track and video of 'Lick It' was one of the more unique opportunities I had when recording Fire & Ice," Kaskade told MTV News on Tuesday (April 17), the same day their collaborative "Lick It" video exclusively debuted on MTV.com. "Skrillex and I have different styles, but that is part of what made it fun. I like doing the unexpected, and this track and video is something truly distinctive."

After the kaleidoscopes and cityscapes of "Eyes" (featuring Mindy Gledhill), Rebecca and Fiona rocking out with ice skaters on "Turn It Down," and Kaskade getting his "Sliver" on with Skylar Grey in "Room for Happiness," the video for "Lick It" is a gritty, technically sophisticated endeavor, helmed by L.A.-based filmmaker Sean Stiegemeier, whose credits include Zedd's "Shave It" video.

"It was a great honor to work with these two artists," Stiegemeier told MTV News. "The collaboration could not had been more ideal as a director. They would allow me to throw out some wild ideas and then work together towards a concept that we all created and enjoyed."

And wild it is. Filmed in snowy Iceland, the vid depicts a bloody Aníta Lísa Svansdóttir (an Icelandic actress and soccer player) desperately in search of music, acting entirely in reverse but with a linear story line.

"The video was shot in a small town on the south coast of Iceland," Stiegemeier revealed. "Weather and light were a tough factor, with only four hours of daylight and blizzards storming through the shoot."

Without her tunes, Svansdóttir literally falls apart. Blood flows from her eyes and ears as she tries, unsuccessfully, to snatch a pair of headphones off a local before shattering the window of a home to scoop a pair.

"It was the most physical shoot that I have done," Stiegemeier said. "Because the camera was attached to the actress as she had to run backwards the entire time, also uphill, on ice, while bleeding out of her ears. Fortunately, she is a professional soccer player and did an amazing job."

With Kaskade and Skrilly back in her ears, he health is restored as she chugs away from the scene smiling, with angry, snow-pelting villagers left behind her.

  • Drake Proclaims 'I'm A Proud Young Jewish Boy' On 'HYFR' Set

Cash Money videographer Derrick G. catches up with Drake during his re-Bar Mitzvah.
    By Rob Markman

"Money just changed everything." Those are the words that opened Drake's Thank Me Later album.

Hell yeah, it changed everything. Just look at Drizzy's recently released "HYFR" video as an example. In the Director X-helmed clip, Drake stages a second Bar Mitzvah to re-establish his commitment to the Jewish faith.

"I'm proud, a proud young Jewish boy. When I had a Bar Mitzvah back in the day, my mom really didn't have that much money. We kinda just did it in the basement of an Italian restaurant, which I guess is kinda like a faux pas," Drake told Cash Money videographer Derrick G on the video's Miami set. "I told myself that if I ever got rich, I'd throw myself a re-Bar Mitzvah. That's the concept for the video."

Drake dropped some childhood party footage at the top of the "HYFR" video, and while it looked like a good time, we're sure it paled in comparison to his adult Bar Mitzvah, which features Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, Birdman and Trey Songz.

The behind-the-scenes documentary shows the Toronto MC interacting with his YMCMB family and his real-life family. "I have some of my mother's friends, some of my friends," he said to the camera, gesturing toward Birdman and Khaled, who were seated in the Miami synagogue. "Stunna Man and Khaled had to come and show their support. I learned my Torah portions; they had to come hear me read it."

The set-visit video is filled with a ton of fun moments, but none more thrilling than when Lil Wayne performs his verse from the song. Weezy, who starts off in a suit and ski mask, begins to peel back his wardrobe with each passing rhyme until he is in a Truk Fit T-shirt, banging his skateboard across a banquet table. Birdman Jr. is clearly the life of the party.

"Maybe in the world, there might be somebody crazier and more energetic and more talented, but I don't know where the f--- they're at," Drake said. "This guy gets on the camera every single time and kills that sh--. That's why he's Lil Wayne."

  • One Direction's Harry Styles And Taylor Swift Are 'Friends'

In an interview with an Australian newspaper, Styles addresses romance rumors and Zayn Malik assures fans, 'We're not changing our name.'
    By Jocelyn Vena

Are they, or aren't they? One Direction's Harry Styles is addressing rumors that he and Taylor Swift are in a budding romance.

Last week, it was rumored that Swift had shared told pal Justin Bieber that she was crushing on the One Direction singer after meeting him at the Kids' Choice Awards last month. From there, fans began to wonder if the twosome could be music's next great power couple. Well, it might be a little longer before things heat up between them.

Styles confirmed in an interview with an Australian newspaper that while they exchanged numbers and have been texting, nothing else is happening. "We met in America, she's very nice, yes," he told the Herald Sun. "She is very talented... She's very nice... We're friends."

Swift is one of many girls that Styles has been linked to since coming Stateside to promote the band's chart-topping album, Up All Night. Other rumored girlfriends include American singer Lily Halpern, New York-based photographer Sarah-Louise Colivet and former "Bachelorette" Jillian Harris.

It's not just the band's romantic entanglements that are making news these days. In the same interview, Zayn Malik also addressed concerns regarding a lawsuit regarding One Direction's name. The band and their management, Simon Cowell's Syco Entertainment and Sony Music, was sued by a U.S. band with the same name.

"We're not changing our name," Malik assured fans, who certainly had many suggestions for the fivesome. "We don't know what's going to happen but we're not changing our name."

  • Mystikal Gets 81 Days In Jail For Probation Violation

Cash Money CEO Birdman confirms to MTV News that the label will continue to support the New Orleans rapper.
    By Nadeska Alexis

Mystikal inked a new deal with Cash Money Records in December to release his upcoming sixth studio album, Original, but the New Orleans rapper will have to delay work on his LP due to legal troubles. Mystikal, born Michael Tyler, has been sentenced to three months in jail for probation violation.

On Monday, Louisiana State District Judge Tony Marabella handed down the three-month sentence for the 41-year-old rapper, who was arrested in February and charged with a misdemeanor for domestic abuse battery. The arrest was in violation of his five-year probation, stemming from sexual battery and extortion charges that landed him in a Louisiana prison from 2004 to 2010.

A spokesperson for Cash Money CEO Birdman issued a statement to MTV News, confirming the label will continue to support Mystikal's career, emphasizing that the arrest will not affect their relationship. Birdman's rep added that Mystikal will turn himself in on May 14 to being the sentence, but he will only serve 81 days, since Marabella is crediting him for the nine days he spent behind bars after the February arrest.

During a March visit to "RapFix Live," Mystikal revealed a few details about his anticipated album, including an upcoming collaboration with Cash Money labelmates Drake and Busta Ryhmes. "I'm telling you, this album is gonna be so well worth the wait, Sway, believe that," Mystikal told MTV News' Sway Calloway. "Busta [Rhymes] was one of the first artists I worked with when I first came home. Busta came out there, came all the way to Baton Rouge. I'm talking about we got it in."

In mid-March, Mystikal dropped the video for his album's lead single, "Original," which featured appearances from Lil Wayne and Birdman and gave fans a glimpse of the luxurious YMCMB lifestyle. Original will be Mystikal's first album since 2001's Tarantula.

  • Can Spoilers Really Spoil 'The Avengers'?

As the wait for the superhero flick grows more agonizing, the age-old debate crops up again: to spoil or not to spoil?
    By Josh Horowitz

    "Avengers"
    Photo: Marvel

Over the weekend I was getting the shakes. And Tony Stark is to blame. I knew a whole bunch of folks had seen "The Avengers" last week (Los Angeles was host to its premiere last Wednesday) and, well, that wore on me. I don't know why. I'd get to see it myself soon enough. And frankly, seeing it without knowing whatever Easter eggs were planted would probably only add to my eventual enjoyment, right? But it gnawed on me. Since I have little to no will power, it only took me a few minutes of searching the interweb to get just about every plot point ruined forever. Do I have a problem? Is it a problem?

I'll say this to those who say they want any and all movie spoilers kept from them — fearing the house of cards will come crashing down if they know the kid can see dead people or whatever: Spoilers can't (or shouldn't) ruin a film. Any film that rests on a third-act twist and the surprise it causes just isn't all that great a film. Let me bring to mind another M. Night Shyamalan film, "Unbreakable," a movie that blew my mind with a third-act revelation the first time I saw it. Now that I know what's coming, does it make me love the movie any less? No.

Another case in point, let's journey back to 1983 and visit the 7-year-old version of me (shorter, that's about the only difference) reading the comic adaptation of "Return of the Jedi" (back before the Internet comics and novelizations were the best bet for the spoiler-minded). Yup, I was the guy who knew every twist in the culmination of the greatest saga of my youth before stepping into the theater. Did I enjoy the film at all less than I would have going in blind? I truly don't think so. My only regret actually is ruining the film for my brother in advance and that's just because he hit me really hard as a result.

Look, I know a lot of you disagree with me and trust me, we discuss spoilers an awful lot over here within the movies team at MTV. We know a lot of you want to enjoy a movie fresh without a third-act twist weighing on you throughout the flick. But we also live and breathe on breaking news, and if a certain A-list actor is going to appear in "21 Jump Street" (see, I'm being careful), it's hard to ignore that. That's news. So it's a bit of a conundrum we face every single day. It's probably the same for you if you're reading this. You want to know just enough, am I right? But some of you are like me and wouldn't mind knowing it all.

Lately I've been wondering if we've become a society that's more anxious for spoilers than ever. If I had to guess, the easy access to virtually any information on whatever mobile device is probably a big reason. Has the Ming dynasty come up in conversation again? Why, it'll just take you about 10 seconds to find out what century it began in (the 14th, duh). We're a culture that has now been conditioned to believe we can and should know anything. How much did "The Hunger Games" make in Nebraska last week? Hold on a second. I got that. How does Rihanna look on a beach when she's hanging with friends? No problemo. What happens at the end of "The Avengers"? What do you mean I can't know right now?

Secrets are hard to keep in 2012. Which is probably why films like "Prometheus" and "The Dark Knight Rises" are my two most anticipated flicks at the moment (and I know I'm not alone). Take the final installment in the Batman trilogy for example. Despite being shot out and about on the streets of several major cities, I'd guess the number of folks who actually know how Christopher Nolan's next film ends numbers in the dozens. OK, maybe a couple hundred. So I'm conflicted once again. I desperately want to know everything and yet I know it will be all the more satisfying to know nothing. Damn, I'm in the wrong business, aren't I?

Check out everything we've got on "The Avengers."

  • Channing Tatum Strips Down In 'Magic Mike' Teaser

Tatum and his stripper pals, played by Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer, get into some shirtless antics in a teaser for the June release.
    By Jocelyn Vena

Sixteen seconds. That's all fans are getting teased with in the just-released teaser for the "Magic Mike" trailer; the complete version hits the streets late Wednesday on "Entertainment Tonight."

    But it's a beefy 16 seconds, that's for sure.

It features everything fans of the highly anticipated flick could want: Channing Tatum as a shirtless police officer and quick looks at the also-shirtless acrobatics of the other strippers in the flick, including Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer. The tease is definitely quick and dirty but certainly highlights the humor in the film.

At one point, Tatum jokes, "You don't want to know what I have to do for 20's." Judging by the footage, it involves a lot of topless antics.

Another point of interest comes at the end when Channing — once again without a top — asks, "So are you going to come to the show tonight?" For most fans, the answer will probably be a big, loud "YES!"

The Steven Soderbergh-directed film opens June 29. In addition to Tatum, Pettyfer and McConaughey, the movie features a bevy of other Hollywood studs, including Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello.

When MTV News caught up with McConaughey recently, he dropped a hint about his own stripper character in the film. "Well, I run the hottest male revue in America, if not the globe," McCanaughey said of Dallas. "And we are going to simulcast around not only the globe, but the universe, and become the hottest male revue in the universe."

The story follows strip-club owner Dallas, as well as veteran male dancer Magic Mike (played by Tatum), who teaches the game to a newbie who goes by the moniker "The Kid" (played by Pettyfer). The movie is based on Tatum's own experiences as a male dancer. Soderbergh told MTV News, "It's a fictionalized version of what Channing went through. Channing's sort of playing a version of himself, and Alex is kind of playing a version of Channing. They're sort of amalgamations of other people. No one has ever said, 'But that didn't happen,' because it's not really that. It's just the world that I think is really fascinating."

Still not convinced that this film has it all and then some? Well, Bomer recently shared that Tatum even gets his groove on to Ginuwine's "Pony."

Check out everything we've got on "Magic Mike."

  • Mickey Factz Changed His Identity For Mickey Mause Mixtape

Bronx MC tells Mixtape Daily what it took to 'become' Mickey Mause, the 1980s graffiti artist at the center of his new mixtape.
    By Rob Markman

    Don't Sleep: Necessary Notables

    Headliner: Mickey Factz

    Mixtape: Mickey Mause
Essential Info: Chances are you won't hear any tracks from Mickey Factz's Mickey Mause mixtape burning up radio, but that doesn't make it any less poignant. Lupe Fiasco dubbed it a "#MasterPiece" on Twitter and even Swizz Beatz gave it a push, sending out the link over the social networking site.

The highly conceptualized tape, which samples from producers Danger Mouse and deadmau5, finds the Bronx MC in character. He isn't Mickey Factz, but instead Mickey Mause, a 1980s graffiti artist who strives to make a name for himself among the greats like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf and Fab Five Freddy.

On his way to infamy, Mickey Mause stumbles, hitting every pitfall imaginable. "He just got involved with drugs, alcohol and sex and later contracts HIV," Factz explained to Mixtape Daily of his character's fate.

The story line plays out over the course of 18 tracks. On "Hulk Hogan & Crack," Factz as Mickey Mause paints a gritty picture of the 1980s NYC party scene on a crumbling canvas. Through his raps, the MC goes from bombing graffiti on old-time trains to posting his work in gallery spaces to parties with New York Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden. It all sounds fascinating, but his ups are quickly drowned in drugs and other destructive behavior.

The trippy and electro-tinged "Taking Pictures of Girls Naked" details a passionate sexual encounter that eventually spells doom for the tape's protagonist. On "A.I.D.S," Mause looks back on his life, remaining celebratory on the upbeat dance track despite receiving some shocking news. "If tonight is my last night, please don't cry/ Just remember the good times of my life," he sings on the song's hook.

In order to successfully sell his story, Mickey had to employ method rapping — a process where he would mentally and physically become the fictional character he is singing about. "When I first started the project, I was rapping as Mickey Factz, I was telling the story from Mickey Factz's point of view, and my A&R Steve-O was like, 'You need to rap as Mickey Mause,' " he said.

At the behest of his trusted friend, Mickey grew a beard and took up painting. He admitted that the change initially affected his personal relationships — his friends and family members didn't quite understand the metamorphosis, but Mickey marched on. "I really had to become the character to make sure the point of the character and the project came across correctly."

Jack White, Foo Fighters, Stevie Wonder, Skrillex and Metallica top the bill for the fifth annual Outside Lands festival, set for August 10-12 in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Beck, Sigur Ros, Big Boi and more are also set to appear at the fest, along with a host of bands shaking the rust off from their lengthy breaks — Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Regina Spektor, Grandaddy (!) etc — and hotly tipped newcomers like Alabama Shakes, Of Monsters and Men and Yellow Ostrich.

Want even more? OK, how about the Kills, Die Antwoord, Fun., the Walkmen, Justice, and Explosions in the Sky?

All in all, Outside Lands organizers announced more than 60 bands for the bill — with more set to be revealed in the coming weeks. Tickets for the fest will go on sale Thursday at noon PT through SFOutsideLands.com, and a portion of every ticket sold directly benefits San Francisco's Recreation and Park Department. Oh, and in keeping with grand tradition, this year's fest also boasts a huge selection of food and wine options, so you can get your locally sourced, totally organic buzz on while watching Norah Jones. Oddly fitting.

Since launching in 2008, Outside Lands has hosted a who's who of top-tier talent (Radiohead, Pearl Jam, the Kings of Leon), with last year's fest being headlined by Muse, Phish and the Arcade Fire.

  • Rihanna Shares Topless Pics From Hawaiian Getaway

Pop star shows off her beach body in photos posted on her Facebook page.
    By John Mitchell

    Rihanna on vacation in Hawaii
    Photo: Rihanna's Facebook

Oh, to be young, beautiful, rich and famous. It sure looks like one heck of a good time.

At least that's what we gather from the photos Rihanna posted to her Facebook Monday night of the Hawaiian getaway she took earlier this year. The Barbadian pop star posted 169 pics of herself and friends enjoying a little fun in the sun, horseback riding, swimming with sharks, enjoying some Bud Light on a boat and lounging on a surf board. Oh, and taking her top off under a waterfall.

For photos from Rihanna's relaxing Hawaiian getaway, click here.

If there was ever any question that the "We Found Love" singer is just about the fittest pop star in the game, these pictures confirm it. From every angle, Rihanna looks amazing; she's rocking visible abs, toned arms and loose, curly locks, and stripped of her diva costumes and makeup, she's a natural stunner. In one pic, RiRi even bares some skin. Bathing under a waterfall, she doffs her bikini top and shoots the camera an ear-to-ear smile.

Though she's since returned to the grind, shooting a video for her new single "Where Have You Been," she made time to support producer buddy Calvin Harris this weekend at Coachella, where she also seemed to be having quite a good time.

Note to all those who are, like us, looking at these pictures from their desk inside: We must have done something wrong.

  • Tupac's Coachella Hologram And The Rise Of The Not-So-Live Revue

We slide down music's next great slippery slope in Bigger Than The Sound.
    By James Montgomery

Tupac's hologram at the 2012 Coachella music festival
    Photo: Getty Images

On Sunday, Tupac Shakur thrilled audiences at Coachella, which was rather notable, considering he's been dead since 1996.

Of course, it wasn't actually Tupac who shared the stage with Dre and Snoop, but rather a hologram, one that cost nearly a half-million dollars to make and probably would've blown the collective minds of 100,000 stoned white kids ("BRO, I JUST SAW TUPAC'S GHOST") had reports of its Coachella premiere not leaked early.

And while it wasn't the first time this level of trickery has been employed live — Madonna used the same technology at the 2006 Grammys when she performed with the Gorillaz, as have well-moneyed folks like Celine Dion and the Black Eyed Peas (not surprisingly, a holographic pop star has also been selling out venues in Japan since 2010) — Holo-pac represents something else ... something a tad more unsettling. Because, to the best of my knowledge, this was the first time anyone decided it would be a good idea to resurrect a long-dead music icon for the sole purpose of a performance.

I'm willing to bet it won't be the last. Whether or not that's a good thing is largely up to you.

Part séance, part neo-necromancy, Holo-pac also almost certainly heralds the coming of a brave new era of revenue-grabbing, legacy-tarnishing spectacle. At the moment, beaming your favorite deceased star onto a stage night after night is probably cost prohibitive, but soon, it won't be. And once that final hurdle falls, how long until every hotel in Las Vegas is lining up their own digital Elvis Presleys, Michael Jacksons or John Lennons for full-blown revues? In 2010 alone, Jackson's estate generated more than $170 million in revenue, so how much would fans pay to see him, uh, "live"? The mind boggles, and, to be honest, the heart aches.

Because, sure, while the estates of each star would have to sign off on any of this, that didn't stop Kurt Cobain — dead since 1994 — from inexplicably showing up as a playable character in 2009's "Guitar Hero 5," sad proof that anything is possible if the folks in charge of an artist's legacy are desperate enough for cash. And if that bothers you even in the slightest, imagine how you'd feel to see Cobain's hologram flailing around on stage, puppet-like, while a faceless backing band bashes through the Nirvana catalog? It's a pretty gross idea, yet it's not all that inconceivable (but you can take solace in the fact that they'd definitely do a real good job rendering his green cardigan).

And yes, I understand there is a market for all of this. The idea of seeing the Beatles or Jimi Hendrix live is appealing even to me. But if you care even the slightest bit about the legacies of your favorite artists, then you probably don't want their likenesses exploited for anything, let alone a borderline ghastly holo-deck puppet show. And to be honest, the appeal of most great, long-gone artists lies in the fact that they're no longer with us: They are certainly timeless, yet they are also of a certain time. They define an era, an ethos, and they most certainly don't deserve to be resurrected. Or exploited. And if you're a real fan, well, you should probably be nodding in agreement right now.

And I think that's the deep, dark secret about this whole Holo-pac thing. Sure, it looked cool, but wasn't it also just a touch ghastly? Here was Shakur's digital ghost, "rapping" and posturing, giving a shout-out (that someone had to record for him) to a festival that didn't come into existence until three years after his death. I'd like to think that, were he still with us, 'Pac wouldn't have done any of this, and maybe I'm in the minority with that opinion, but I suspect that most of his fans agree with me — to say nothing of the fact that, since he's been killed, we are unwilling to actually put Tupac in the grave, which only made the whole thing feel even more ghoulish (by all accounts, Snoop didn't seem to have a problem with it, though that's probably because he sees holograms roughly 25 percent of the time anyway).

And who's to say what happens next? Could the Rolling Stones just swap out living, decrepit Keith for vibrant, slightly-less-decrepit 1965 Keith, or bring back Brian Jones just for the heck of it? Would Vans purchase the rights to Sid Vicious's visage just to put him front-and-center on a summer tour? How long until we watch holo-Bonham do the "Moby Dick" drum solo at a corporate retreat in Aspen? All of these things seem like longshots now, but when you leave an artist's legacy in the hands of anyone, well, strange things are bound to happen. Kind of like Tupac showing up at a polo field in California. To live and die — and rise again — in L.A. ... or very near to it, at least. Welcome to the future.

What did you think of Tupac's appearance at Coachella? Sound off in the comments.
