  • Ashley Rickards Is Anything But 'Awkward' In 'This Is How I Made It' Clip

There's been no shortage of excitement round these parts for the impending, inspiring first episode of "This Is How I Made It," the show that features in-their-own-words stories from our favorite celebs on how they... well, y'know. MADE IT. But this itty-bitty sneak peek at this week's premiere is especially close to our withered, blackened hearts: It's our own Ashley Rickards, sharing her memory of how she got a career-making break with her role on "Awkward."

With only one serious movie role and a handful of TV guest spots under her belt, Ashley was a long shot for the starring role in a network series—but she remembers vividly what happened on the day of her audition.

"After the network test, I got a message from Lauren Lungerich, who's the writer and the creator and whole brain behind 'Awkward,'" Ashley recalled. "And she was like, 'Pssst! You nailed it!'"

Though she couldn't know it for sure, that moment was a serious turning point in Ashley's career; she's been the star of "Awkward" for two years running, and when it comes to Hollywood's hottest up-and-comers, she's on everyone's list. And how does a struggling actress celebrate her big break? By charging ahead at full speed, obviously...and, in Ashley's case, literally.

"I was at the gym," she said. "I turned the elliptical up faster, like, OH YEAH! Celebration run!"

"This Is How I Made It" premieres Saturday, October 13, at 12/11c.

Are you psyched to see the rest of Ashley's story on "This Is How I Made It"?

  • We Ring Up 'Degrassi' Wedding Drama In EXCLUSIVE Clip

Does the drama ever end for the kids of "Degrassi"? Thankfully, the answer is a big, fat "no." And lucky for you, we here at Hollywood Crush have gotten our hands on an exclusive sneak peek of what's to come during the back half of season 12 when it picks up on Friday.

In the teaser clip, Bianca is trying to keep her engagement to Drew a secret, mostly because he's afraid his mom might convince the kids to not go through with it. Bianca's having a bit of a moral crisis because she wants to break the news so as not to break her relationship with Mama Audra, even if Drew is settled on staying away from her.

Other big storylines will include Eli looking for his next great muse, and conservative new girl Becky Baker trying to fend off her feelings for Adam. Before the season kicked off, back in July, "Degrassi" actress Jessica Tyler shared just how much the Bakers might be affected by the liberal world of Degrassi High.

"The Bakers are moving to Degrassi and they have very strong Christian beliefs," she explained. "So when they move in, Degrassi being a school that deals with transgendered, gay and bisexual, all these different aspects of sexuality, it's very new to them. So the characters kind of find a way to deal with it."

The "Degrassi" mid-season premiere airs at 9:00 p.m. ET on TeenNick.

What are you looking forward to when "Degrassi" starts up again tomorrow night? Tell us in the comments!

  • 'Vampire Diaries' Stars Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder Contemplate Season Four Challenges

Bloody hell! The wait is finally over! "The Vampire Diaries" returns to our oh-so lonely television sets tonight, with a highly anticipated premiere that will deliver on the promise: "This season, everything will change." And how could it not? With Elena joining the growing ranks of Mystic Falls' Society for the Undead and Klaus clandestinely inhabiting Tyler's body, ish is getting crazier than ever before. (How is that even possible!?)

We've already recapped the five most important things you must remember about season three before sitting down to watch tonight's season four premiere, but we have another goodie for you to sink your teeth into. We recently visited the series' Atlanta set, where we chatted all things bloodsucking with the stars. Of course, they were more than happy to offer up the goods, especially when we asked each what their character's greatest season four challenge will be.

Unsurprisingly, Ian Somerhalder had the best zinger of the bunch as far as his devilish Damon Salvatore was concerned: "Not getting killed and getting laid. That's about it."

Ian, we couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Be sure to click play on the video above to hear more from Nina Dobrev, Candice Accola and Michael Trevino (after he interrupted Candice's interview! Silly hybrid!).

How excited are you for tonight's premiere? Do you think these characters can overcome the challenges before them? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!

  • We Go Behind The Scenes Of 'Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones'

It's real, and it's spectacular: the movie adaptation of Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" began shooting in Toronto this summer, marking the start of production on one of the most exciting book-to-film deals ever to exist. And because we are all up in the "City of Bones" business, MTV News took a trip to the set for a chat with the cast and a behind-the-scenes peek at a moment from the books that fans will surely recognize.

You do recognize it, right? That's Clary, played by Lily Collins, attending a seriously kickin' house party for the supernatural set. (Look closely, and you may see a faerie hooking up with a satyr! ...No, okay, we made that up. But still, it could totally happen!) And even from this little glimpse into the inner "City of Bones," it's clear that the filmmakers are taking great care to create a distinctive world that really captures the feel of the books.

"It's really a story that's based in reality as much as it is in this fantasy world. They're coexisting," Lily said, but was quick to add that this movie is much more than the sum of its pretty set pieces. "It's more emotionally and character-based than just aesthetically beautiful. It's got amazing imagery and the CGI is going to be incredible, but it's not just about that."

And even the cranky Jamie Campbell Bower, whose performance as the snarky Jace will no doubt be helped by his irritation at the middle-of-the-night shooting schedule, is psyched to be part of the film.

"I'm not in the world's greatest mood, but I get to go to work, and I get to be a bit of an a--hole," he gloated.

Meanwhile the enthusiasm of fans who can't wait to see the book brought to life hasn't just been an abstract for the actors; Robert Sheehan recounted his shock at finding them cheering from the sidelines when they arrived to begin shooting.

"There were fans there waiting for us," he said, with a tone of amazement, adding that he was especially confused when some of them asked him to sign the book. "I was like, this isn't my book!" he recalled. "So that was quite odd...but I did it anyway."

  • 'Vampire Diaries' Premiere: 5 Things To Remember From Last Season

    Vampire Diariesby Cassie Title

Tonight, the greatest show in the entire world (Seriously. It's the greatest show in the ENTIRE WORLD!) kicks off its fourth season. And since the premiere will be packed with vampires, transformations and possessions galore, Hollywood Crush thought it'd be a good idea to remind all you faithful, fabulous readers of the top five things you should be aware of before heading back to Mystic Falls. With the power invested in me (by nobody in particular), here's what you should know:

    1. Everybody thinks Klaus is dead
That is, everybody except for Bonnie. If you remember, homegirl desiccated that haughty hybrid using some scary-ass dark magic, rendering him immobile. But, lo and behold, nothing is at it seems. For Bonnie pulled a Greta (I really like saying that; do you think it'll catch on? Like, the next time I find some really hot, really freaky vampire guy who wants me to stick him in somebody else's body, I'll be pulling a Greta! Because that happens so much!) and magicked (I'm just a regular Joyceian today) Klaus into Tyler's body! So Klaus is alive and kicking it in TYLER'S BODY! THIS IS A BIG DEAL because Bonnie did this to save her pals; everyone is still alive! Because if Klaus were really dead, everyone would probably be dead! Because he is most likely the originator of our favorite vampires' bloodlines! And when an Original dies, so does his entire bloodline! The real question: Why do our favorite characters really believe that Klaus is dead? I mean, I know they'll figure it out in like the first six minutes of the premiere, but c'mon! And, what's Tyler's deal? Obviously he is still alive (which I'm going to stop trying to figure out, because honestly this mythology ain't making no sense.) But since Klaus is all sweet on Caroline, he is TOTALLY going to take advantage of this new development.

    2. Elena chose Stefan
You really didn't need to be reminded of that, because it's 100 percent obvious, but yeah. Stefan went all psycho ripper for a while, but he got back to his boring self and Elena chose him. Despite the fact that she's made out with Damon (twice!). Which was super, super awesome, if I do say so myself. But in choosing Stefan, she told Damon that things might have been different if she had met him first. Which (prepare to have your mind blown!) she did. Seriously. Mere minutes before Stefan saved her from drowning before the series opened, Elena met Damon. It was awesome. But he compelled her to forget. And now she's going to remember! Because...

    3. Elena's a vampire!
Well, not yet, but she's going to be. In the season finale, Matt and Jeremy cooked up some really bad, unsupernatural plan to get Elena away from all of the dangerous, supernatural shenanigans she was entangled in. Which is really pointless, because she's Elena Gilbert. And the doppelganger. (Which we still need to know more about! SERIOUSLY PEOPLE!) Meaning that, by definition, her very being is supernatural. Anyway, Matt was driving her over Wickery Bridge, and the producers decided to get poetic with parallels. Rebekah, furious and lost because she believed her brother Klaus was dead, stood in the middle of the road, forcing Matt to drive off the bridge to avoid her. (Could they not tell it was her? Because vampires don't die from car crashes, yo! They're like practically indestructible. This whole plot point could've been avoided! Yeah...) So Elena and Matt fell into the water, and Stefan came to save the day, not dissimilar from when Elena and her parents crashed into the water. Just as Elena's father motioned for Stefan to save Elena first, Elena motioned for her man to save Matt first. Which he did. And when he came back for Elena, she was already dead. With vampire blood in her system. Because the episode or so before, she suffered a secret brain hemorrhage that Meredith Fell healed with Damon's blood, which she told no one about. So Stefan brought her up to the surface and woke up gasping for air, all ready for her transition.

    4. Alaric's dead
I guess nothing's really that important after ELENA BECOMING A FREAKING VAMPIRE, but we bade goodbye to our dear Alaric, of alcoholic-weird-pseudo-Gilbert-father-vampire-hunting-fame. Esther, the Original Witch, had turned him into Mikael 2.0, a vampire to kill all vampires, in order to take out the Originals, and thus, knock out all vampires for good. She tied his life to Elena's, so that when she died, he would, too. And since Elena died earlier than expected (but if you watch the show, you'd know that she was totally going to have to become a vampire sooner or later, so it's not that unexpected at all, actually) Alaric died, too. RIP, Alaric Saltzman. RIP.

    5. Katherine's still MIA.
Ha! I totally snuck Katherine in there. And the producers have snuck her in somewhere else. Where? I don't know. I don't know where she is. WHERE IS SHE? TELL ME! SHOW ME! Now that both doppelgangers are vampires, fun times can totally ensue! BRING HER BACK! BRING HER BACK!

So, I kind of cheated; five was more like 25. But there's way too much stuff going on, and I want you all to feel prepared. There's more, too, but we can go over it tomorrow in our episode recap! What a glorious, glorious night it will be.

Are you FREAKING OUT with COMPLETE EXCITEMENT over tomorrow's premiere? Are there other things everyone should know that I didn't choose to include? What do you think will happen this season? When's Elijah coming back? Did you read any cool spoilers? Fill us in! In the comments, on Twitter, on Facebook, through dark magic...whatever. Just make sure you're heard!

  • We're Obsessed With 'Nashville'

NashvilleWelcome to Obsessed, a new weekly feature in which we shamelessly gush about our latest pop-culture preoccupation. This week, we're fangirling over ABC's "Nashville."

Confession: I did not want to watch "Nashville." I can't specify why exactly, but it looked like it might be a touch cheesy or lame. And I certainly didn't want or expect to become totally and completely obsessed with it, no siree. But here I am, plain ol' drunk on its sassy, sparkly, slightly-soapy-but-totally-sexy Southern comfort.

The plot is centered on aging country star Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) and her struggle to stay relevant in an ever-changing, youth-obsessed industry. Hayden Panettiere plays the evil side of the pretty-young-thing problem in the form of current country sensation Juliette Barnes, and boy oh boy is she trouble; the conniving, career-climbing, man-eating, gives-good-girls-a-bad-name kind of trouble. And despite my misgivings about this not wholly original setup, Connie and Hayden add surprising spice to the mix to make it special. Be sure to keep your eyes on Clare Bowen (who plays the nicer, more innocent Scarlett O'Connor) as well. In fact, I dare you to try and take your eyes off her during the pilot's last few minutes. This young woman is a scene stealer in the making, for sure.

Anyway enough about the leading ladies; they will all receive their fair share of attention. I would now like to make mention of the very handsome, lovable, crush-worthy men on this show, for there are many of them in all shapes, sizes, ages and varying degrees of sexy. After watching just one episode, my favorites are smoldery, loyal and heartsick songwriter/guitarist Deacon Claybourne (played by familiar-to-TV face Charles Esten) and smoldery, heartsick aspiring songwriter/guitarist Gunnar Scott (played by relative newcomer Sam Palladio. Don't let his character's sweet southern drawl fool you, Palladio is a Brit!). These dudes are cuuute and so tortured and soulful and stuff, at least for right now. We'll see how things shake out in the next few episodes. Filling the rest of the handsome men quota are two guys whom we might not be able to trust: bad boy moocher Avery Barkley (Jonathan Jackson) and Rayna's loyal but self-proclaimed "second choice" hubby Teddy (Eric Close). Loyal TV fans will likely recognize Jonathan and Eric from a slew of their other projects.

Do I have you interested or convinced to watch this show yet? Not quite? This little musical interlude should do the trick. I've watched this scene about a dozen times now. The song is called "If I Didn't Know Better," and you should download it now. You're welcome.

    Are you obsessed with "Nashville"?

  • Michael Trevino's TV Tips

The "Vampire Diaries" season four premiere doesn't air until tomorrow evening, but if you're looking for a little small-screen eye candy to chew on in the meantime, one of the series' stars has you covered.

Michael Trevino took to Twitter today to recommend two new series: "Chicago Fire," which stars Taylor Kinney (whom "TVD" fans know as the erstwhile Mason Lockwood), and "Arrow," which stars Hump Day Hottie Stephen Amell (who played short-lived "TVD" character Brady). Yes, it's a boob-tube love fest for the bros. And we fully support it!

(Seriously, though, we included both in our list of Fall TV Hotties. Check it!)

Which new fall shows are you most excited about? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!

  • Celebrity Book Club: 'Vampire Diaries' Star Candice Accola Likes 'Corrections'

Welcome to another meeting of Hollywood Crush's Celebrity Book Club! With "The Vampire Diaries" kicking off its fourth season tomorrow night, it seemed only right we check in with our favorite Mystic Falls residents to see what tomes are topping their list right now. Candice Accola, otherwise known as Vampire Barbie Caroline Forbes, was more than happy to share a Julie Plec-recommended read that's anything but sucky.

"I love to read," Candice enthused. "And right now I'm on my last hundred pages of 'The Corrections' by Jonathan Franzen, and I really enjoyed it. His writing is just—he's one of those writers where you just go, there are people just meant to be novel writers."

If you haven't picked up the 2001 National Book Award winner, the tale centers around an elderly Midwestern couple and their children, who reunite for one last Christmas together. HBO was set to adapt the tale into a series, but after a pilot was shot, decided not to go forward. So...you'll just have to pick up the book! Or be bitten. (Just kidding...kinda.)

What are you reading right now?

  • 'Secret Life' Canceled: What's Next For Shailene Woodley?

It's time to say goodbye to the hit ABC Family series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." The show will end its five-season run on the network once the current season wraps next year. The back half of the season will hit the network in March, Deadline reports. But, as the end approaches, it seems leading lady Shailene Woodley had been ready to bid a fond farewell to the series since this summer.

Shailene chatted with MTV News about the future of the show as it prepared to celebrate its 100th episode and shared this:

"A quarter of my life has been spent on 'Secret Life.' I'm 20 and I've been doing it for five years, so I think the best moments have been when all the cast members get to work together and we get to collaborate and share experiences. We all grew up together."

"I think we were all surprised it has lasted this long," she continued about the show's successful run. "None of us had ever done television before, and I don't think any of us knew what to expect. And the fact that it has lasted this long continues to be a shocker. I think that the themes that we deal with, although they are exaggerated, I think the themes at their core are very relatable."

But, the future is bright for Shailene. While she's managed to be a small-screen presence since the show kicked off in 2008, she also made the leap to big-screen star after starring alongside George Clooney in last year's "The Descendants." It was a role that earned her much critical acclaim and an MTV Movie Awards Golden Popcorn.

Now, she can cash in those movie star chips. She's got two films currently on the horizon, including "The Spectacular Now" about a high school senior who, as an experiment, wants to date a social outcast—an outcast who has the power to change people's lives. And then there's "White Bird." Production hasn't started yet on the project, which will revolve around a young woman whose mother disappears.

And! If the Hollywood hubbub is true, the actress is a top contender for the role of Mary Jane in "Spider-Man 2." Not too shabby.

Are you sad to see "Secret Life" go?
