Review:
If one were to teach a college course on the Bond series, "Tomorrow Never Dies" would be the centerpiece of the class titled, "The Importance of the Villain." Brosnan's second outing as 007, an otherwise fine Bond film, lives and died by its villain.Jonathan Pryce brings no actual menace to the film. Elliot Carver is laughable and essentially lies down to die at the hands of Bond. He single-handedly undermines what would have been an acceptable follow-up to the superb "GoldenEye."
The weakness of Carver just goes to show you that while the formula for a Bond movie doesn't change often, the strength of those key pieces ultimately decide the film's overall strength. There's a delicate balance in place, and all it takes is one weasely media mogul to throw it off.
The Bond-a-Thond will return next week in "The World Is Not Enough."

Переслать - 'Taken 3' Moves Forward: Five Ideas For Liam Neeson's Threequel
Liam Neeson doesn't want to get "Taken" again, but that's not going to stop some writers with a very particular set of skills from doing their best to abduct him one more time.
In an interview with Hollywood.com, writer Robert Mark Kamen admitted that Fox is very keen on pursuing a third "Taken" film. Kamen feels the threequel would need to deviate from the formula of the first two movies, saying, "We've taken everyone we can take — it's going to go in another direction. Should be interesting."
That might not be interesting enough to lure Neeson back for a third round as retired black ops badass Bryan Mills. But in case he's feeling open-minded, we have some suggestions for how "Taken 3" could work out. Read them below!
Bryan Mills Takes Someone!
Why does it always have to be Bryan and his family who keep getting kidnapped? Bryan has a very particular set of skills, after all — skills that would be put to good use if he wanted to take someone else. Wouldn't that be a twist, putting Bryan in the shoes of the kidnappers he fought so hard against in the first films?Kim & Lenore Take Someone!
Fine, Liam. If you don't want to get "Taken" again, then maybe it's up to the rest of Team Mills to get the job done. Kim and Lenore have been through the grind enough times now to handle themselves on a European thrill ride without Bryan guiding them through. And if they do need Bryan for any reason, why, he's just a phone call away.Bryan, Kim & Lenore Get Taken To A Mysterious Island!
But these movies work best when the whole Mills gang is together, right? Perhaps, then, we can think a little bit outside of the box and imagine a non-Europe setting for the next "Taken" movie. Somewhere like, say, a mysterious island with smoke monsters and terrifying natives and time travel and science hatches? That's where Kim could finally meet her true love — a reformed ex-torturer for the Republican Guard named Sayid Jarrah! Though he might rub Papa Mills the wrong way…Bryan Gets Taken To Television!
Who needs another movie when the small screen has so much to offer? EuropaCorp has already shown their interest in television by adapting "The Transporter" for TV. "Taken," too, has lots of potential as a serialized miniseries; it gives Neeson the added benefit of stepping away from the Bryan Mills role and allowing another actor (Terry O'Quinn, anyone?) to do some damage in his stead.SHOCKER! No One Gets Taken!
That's the big hang-up here, I think: the idea that a third "Taken" movie, by virtue of its title, requires someone to get abducted. But there's so much potential in Bryan Mills' back story that it feels silly not to explore his past as the central conceit of the film; why spend time on another kidnapping when you can show Mills out on a mission doing what he does best, family-free? That's a "Taken" sequel we would happily pay to see.How do you see "Taken 3" playing out? Leave your ideas for a threequel in the comments section below or hit us up on Twitter!
Переслать - 'Jurassic Park 4' Concept Art Is Crazier Than You Think
The "Jurassic Park" series has always been a cash cow, and for that reason, it seems like there has always been an ongoing attempt to bring it back to the screen for a fourth iteration. Scripts for a new entry have come and gone without ever seeing the light of day outside some production meetings, but one got further along than we ever knew.
In 2005, "The Departed" writer William Monahan and John Sayles collaborated on a script for "Jurassic Park 4" that involved DNA experiments gone awry. These tests resulted in monstrous human-dino hybrids that—well, what else?—break free and cause chaos. But these hybrids didn't get the intellect of the dinosaurs. They were intelligent enough to fire guns and problem-solve.
The idea didn't make it too far, but it did generate some concept art from ILM designer Carlos Huante. The mock-ups are perhaps the most interesting aspect of this story and show what could have been.
Check out some of the concept art (via Reddit) after the jump!

Переслать - Christopher Walken Doesn't Know Why There's An Albino Octopus In 'Prometheus'
Have you ever seen Christopher Walken wearing Elvis glasses with Sam Rockwell, talking about the "albino octopus" from "Prometheus" and the King's twin brother?
Well, you're about to.
During the Toronto International Film Festival, MTV News' Josh Horowitz sat down with Walken and Rockwell, two of the stars of "Seven Psychopaths," to talk about literally anything.
Their topics of conversation ranged from that nefarious albino octopus and the flawed logic* of "Prometheus," to dancing and Walken's refusal to do it on film anymore, to the conspiracy theory surrounding Elvis' twin brother.
Nothing was off-limits in the no-holds-barred conversation with the two great actors. Enjoy all of the spoils in the video above!
*The albino octopus is actually the alien that was removed from Elizabeth Shaw in the surgery scene. It's enormous because, like the xenomorph from "Alien," it grew at an excelled rate.
Переслать - Russell Brand Charms In Exclusive 'Rock Of Ages' Video
"Rock of Ages" hits Blu-ray and DVD today and, in honor of the rock musical's big debut on home video, we've got an exclusive new video that celebrates the release.
The clip focuses on star and MTV Movie Awards host Russell Brand. Brand introduces us to his character Lonny in the never-before-seen clip and talks about how he responded to the rock music in the film.
"My character Lonny in the film 'Rock of Ages' is the representative, I think, of the audience, and the honest-to-God sincere music lover," Brand explained in the video.
With all his energy and exuberance, Brand has earned plenty of respect from his fellow actors Paul Giamatti and Alec Baldwin. Both gushed about their costar in interviews shown in this clip, with Baldwin in particular being impressed by his costar.
"Nothing could prepare me -- I mean, nothing in the world could have prepared me -- for what an incredibly clever, brilliant, funny, alive person [Brand is]. He was the most fun to work with, among the best experiences I've ever had working with someone in terms of being inventive and loose," Baldwin said.
Spliced in between the interviews are a couple clips from "Rock of Ages" featuring Brand, but we're enraptured just hearing him talk about "that gorgeous Diego [Boneta] lad" and "that beautiful Julianne [Hough] bird."
"Rock of Ages" was directed by Adam Shankman and also stars Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Mary J. Blige.

Переслать - 'Game Of Thrones' Casting Extras For Massive, Game-Changing Scene
You thought what happened to Ned was bad? Trust me, "Game of Thrones" fans, you haven't seen anything yet — but you're about to.
Westeros.org reports that the "Thrones" casting department has put out a call for extras for a night shoot on October 12 and full availability on October 15 through 19. The extras they're seeking are male-only cellists and male and leg-only amputees. The latter group needs to be comfortable with prosthetics that will make their legs look newly severed.
Those details might sound like the par-for-the-course ugliness fans of "Thrones" have come to love and expect over the years. But "A Song of Ice and Fire" readers know better. Those readers know all too well that we're finally here; the moment we've been dreading since "Thrones" went into production.
Vague discussion of major spoilers are ahead.
By all accounts, it appears as though "Thrones" is about to start shooting the Red Wedding. Without spoiling exactly what the Red Wedding is, let's just say it's one of the most important and most devastating moments in the entire "Ice and Fire" saga and leave it at that. Devoted readers have wondered among themselves whether or not the "Thrones" producers have the stones to go the full distance with the Red Wedding; even for HBO, the events that transpire here are risky enough to question the network's ability to fully "go there." (There's one violent image in particular that the reader never sees, only hears about, that would make for the most-talked about television event this side of the "Breaking Bad" season four finale; but even a network as brave as HBO might not be willing to pull that particular trigger.)
"Thrones" has deviated from the source material in minor and major ways in the past; the entire House of the Undying sequence is a large departure from what transpires in "A Clash of Kings," and is a fairly serious sore point for sticklers for the books. But of all the scenes from the books that come loaded with high expectations, nothing compares to the Red Wedding. This is a make-or-break moment for staunch fans of the novels, and certainly one for show-only viewers, whether they know it or not.
It's too early to know how the event will play out. But the fact that the event is in-progress at all has this GRRM devotee on the edge of his seat.

Переслать - 'Chasing Amy' To 'Argo': Ben Affleck's Five Defining Films
By Colin Greten
Ben Affleck has been in the Hollywood spotlight for a long time now, but as a star, he has taken on many different forms. He has gone from an Oscar-winning screenwriter, to a leading man, to a disreputable actor and the butt of jokes, to acclaimed director. With his latest film "Argo" now receiving praise—many claiming it's the best of the year—it's safe to wonder how Affleck made this transformation.
We've been able to break it down to five movies, so here are the films that have defined the journey of Ben Affleck.
"Chasing Amy" (1997)
"Chasing Amy" was "Clerks" director Kevin Smith's third feature film and one of the first starring roles for the young Affleck. He already made an appearance in Smith's "Mallrats," but "Chasing Amy" gave him the chance to prove he could carry a film with some dramatic themes, as he falls in love with the perfect girl (Joey Lauren Adams), who turns out to also be a lesbian. Although the film is low-budget, it was decently successful and showed that Smith and Affleck both had staying power in Hollywood. Affleck continued to act in Smith movies throughout his career, including a hilarious cameo as himself in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" (2001)."You gotta do the safe picture, then you do the art picture... and sometimes you gotta do the payback picture because your friend says you owe him." –Ben Affleck in Smith's "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back."
"Good Will Hunting" (1997)
Along with childhood friend Matt Damon, Ben Affleck wrote the script for "Hunting," winning the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. It has always been rumored that Damon was more of the brains behind the project, although that has never been proven and is perhaps a result of resentment towards Affleck early in his career. "Good Will Hunting" meant that both Affleck and Damon had officially arrived on the Hollywood scene and that their careers would be linked together forever."Gigli" (2003)
Despite starring in the successful "Armageddon" (1998) and having a supporting role in Best Picture Winner, "Shakespeare in Love" (1998), Affleck's acting career took a serious downturn. "Reindeer Games" (2000), "Pearl Harbor" (2001), "Daredevil" (2003), "Paycheck" (2003) and "Jersey Girl" (2004) were all extreme disappointments both critically and at the box office. However, no film epitomizes Affleck's dry spell more than "Gigli" (2003) which starred then fiancé Jennifer Lopez and is considered one of the biggest flops of all time, grossing a mere six million at the box office, despite a high budget. Affleck's series of busts as an actor made him laughable to most viewers as he seemingly took roles for the money rather than ones that really suited him."Gone Baby Gone" (2007)
After the series of poor showings previously mentioned, Affleck began taking less roles focusing on quality projects and working behind the camera. After being nominated for a Golden Globe for playing George Reeves in "Hollywoodland" (2006), Affleck wrote "Gone Baby Gone," which became his directorial debut. Although Ben was not featured as an actor in the film, it received great critical reception leading some to believe that Affleck was better suited for directing rather than acting."Argo" (2012) and beyond
After writing, starring and directing his second feature film, "The Town" (2010), Affleck showed his improvement as a serious actor, as well as, his continued success as a director. Affleck's latest project, "Argo" (in which he stars and directs) has already garnered a lot of Oscar buzz, as many critics are calling it one of the best films of the year. After several years of flops, Affleck seems poised to finally receive the respect he deserves as a filmmaker. If he does win an Oscar for "Argo," Ben Affleck will have one more Oscar than acclaimed actor and friend Matt Damon, for those of you scoring at home. What is your favorite Ben Affleck movie? Переслать - 'Monsters University' Goes Viral With New College Website
It's time to get enrolled in "Monsters University." Literally.
In anticipation of the upcoming "Monsters, Inc." sequel, Disney has launched an actual university website for "Monsters University." Fans can head over to the new website to "excel in the art of extreme creepiness" in the Monsters University School of Scaring, School of Engineering, School of Science, School of Business or School of Liberal Arts & Monstrosities. We'll probably take the latter.
There's plenty more to do on the college website. You can read about admissions rules, social activities happening on campus, upcoming events and, yes, even Greek Life. Though it's pretty clear that this is related to "Monsters University," there's no specific mention of the upcoming Pixar film on the site.
Here's the history of Monsters University, just one of many fun tidbits on the website:
"Established in 1313 following a land grant from the city of Monstropolis, Monsters University has grown from a small local center of learning to a leading global institution of higher education. Upon this hallowed ground, some of the most fabled academic buildings in the world have been built, serving the hundreds of thousands of alumni that have walked the halls and grounds of MU," the site explains.
"Monsters University" acts as a prequel to "Monsters, Inc." and tells the story of Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sulley" Sullivan as they enter college at the University of Fear. Though we know they end up as certified monsters eventually, the road there is a little bit bumpy. The film is due out on June 21, 2013.
