  • Zach Roerig Previews 'Drastic' Changes For 'Vampire Diaries'

    by Ryan J. Downey

Next week's kickoff of "The Vampire Diaries" season four will be all about Elena's transition from human to vampire and nobody feels more responsible for that extremely unfortunate situation than Elena's old flame, Matt Donovan.

Speaking to Hollywood Crush by phone from the Northwestern Ohio farm where he grew up, Zach Roerig said his character will be at odds with Damon over the season three finale choice that saved Matt's life. He also revealed that Matt will make a pretty big sacrifice of his own, which will draw him even closer to the girl coveted by both Salvatores.

And (SPOILER ALERT!) Elena will drink Matt's blood! Zach also talked with us about some of season four's new cast members.

"Damon definitely blames Matt and doesn't think that Matt deserves to live," Zach explained. "Of course Damon, being the rage-filled-fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of guy, comes at Matt. But thankfully Elena is there to defend him.

"Both Salvatore brothers make it clear to Matt that he needs to earn his survival," he added.

That idea will definitely motivate him to get even closer to Elena. "The thing about Matt and Elena's friendship is that it's kind of never been really seen on screen except for last year with the flashbacks. It's always been understood that they shared this childhood experience together. But now, the fact that Elena gave up her life for Matt; and then Matt allowing Elena to feed from him: it's just a like a sacrifice on both ends on an extreme level that brings them really close together."

By episode seven, which just wrapped shooting, Matt will even be Elena's date for the Mystic Falls pageant. Those big "everyone in the town gets together" events have increasingly become a source of shared good times for the actors on set.

"They're a blast. Everyone enjoys them. All of us don't get together and film. When we do, it's usually a three- or four-day shoot on location. Everyone's hanging out and having a good time together. It's kind of a nice reprieve from the grind."

Most of those cast members are now playing characters with supernatural elements—vampires, werewolves, hybrids, witches. Zach's character is one of the last people standing as, well, a normal person. And he wants it to stay that way.

"I think it would be a big mistake to make Matt supernatural, for his character and for the show, honestly," he offered. "There needs to be someone who has no facets of the supernatural world, whether it be a ring, a curse, what have you. It's a grounding element for the show."

Whether he'll come bearing supernatural gifts of his own or not, vampire hunter Connor (played by Todd Williams) will certainly shake things up in Mystic Falls. "Todd is a heck of a guy. He comes in being the new 'B.A.' vampire hunter. Previously our only vampire hunter was the history teacher," Zach said. "Now we have this 'Blade'-style vampire hunter. And not just because he's black, but because he's so badass. He's definitely a force to be reckoned with."

Zach cautiously revealed that Matt will have an "altercation" with Connor. "Previously Matt has been divided on whether he's with vampires or against vampires. But with Elena being a vampire, he's now on the opposite side of the law."

Phoebe Tonkin from "The Secret Circle" is another new arrival. She'll play Hayley, the werewolf who helped Tyler break his sire bond from Klaus. Phoebe starred on the Australian TV series "H2O Just Add Water" alongside Claire Holt (a.k.a. Original Vampire Rebekah) and the pair have remained tight, even moving into places in the same neighborhood in L.A. "Phoebe is a heck of an addition to the show. I haven't had any scenes with her, but I've hung out with her at work," Zach said.

Speaking of Rebekah, she'll be looking to buddy up with April (played by Grace Phillips) when Matt attempts to help Elena get reintroduced to high school life. April was friends with Elena a couple of years ago, but now they'll be at odds.

"I don't know how much I can talk about Matt helping Elena adjust, but he's definitely a confidant for her, with the awkwardness of being at school and the transition to being a vampire," he said. "As far as April goes, everyone is kind of surprised to see her. Jeremy and Matt run into April at the same time. Neither one of them recognize her because she was this little girl to them that Elena used to babysit who has now arrived back at school kind of grown up."

Growing up will definitely continue to be a major theme as "The Vampire Diaries" season four rolls on.

"Every TV show in the history of them has a season where things drastically change and this season is definitely it, with Elena becoming a vampire and also, because it's senior year," observed Zach. "Who goes to college? Who stays in town? What are their reasons for staying in town? When we get to season five, it will be a completely different show."

And where would Zach like to see Matt end up by season five? "I want to stay involved with the main plot of the show so I have to be realistic about what I would want for Matt as far as him staying involved," he noted with a laugh.

"I don't think Matt would go to college, even if the main group went to college, because at the end of the day, someone has to stay back in Mystic Falls. I think you'll start to see a different pride in Mystic Falls start to emerge from all of the main players in the show; taking pride in the fact that it's their home, their town. They want to stay there and defend the purity of it, whatever is left. And there's one character that's not going to be ready for college: Jeremy. Jeremy will still be in high school. And this season especially, you start to see a brotherly love emerge between Matt and Jeremy."

"The Vampire Diaries" season four begins Thursday, October 11, at 8/7c.

  • Leighton Meester On 'Gossip Girl' Movie Potential

Spotted: "Gossip Girl" Leighton Meester making a bid for full-fledged movie-star status.

The actress took a break from the Upper East Side to visit the suburbs in her upcoming dramedy "The Oranges," out tomorrow. The film centers around the Walling and Ostroff families, who have been long-time friends and neighbors. But their bond will be tested when daughter Nina (played by Leighton) returns home, beginning an affair with Ostroff father David ("House, M.D." star Hugh Laurie).

The film marks a turning point in the 26-year-old's career as her beloved CW series comes to an end this season after six years. Leighton is, admittedly, ready for the next step.

"I'm glad. The closer it gets, the more happy I get," Leighton told NextMovie. "It's funny because I think it was mostly just the fear of the unknown because I have been on the show my entire adult life—some of the most awkward growth periods of my life have taken place while shooting that. Now, I think I have grown up enough beyond what I am capable of doing on that show and I want to do something different."

But, of course, the "Gossip Girl" season finale is yet to come. What sort of ending does Leighton envision for her Blair Waldorf?

"I don't know because I feel like every time there is that seemingly happy ending, it's not real," she said. "I feel like there should be a cliffhanger so everyone can know she has a life after."

Or leave the potential for a movie open?

"[Unlike a movie], in a show, the arc just continues and never really comes to a head during the six years you film it," Leighton explained. "Also, you have the influence of what fans like which is very strange. I think that has probably influenced the writing to some extent—who knows if it really would have gone down that road with Blair and Chuck so much if people hadn't responded to it so much… It's like you are acting with a knowledge that this is what people want and, when you do a movie, you just do it, and that's the movie.

"I guess everyone else's happy ending would probably be that she ends up marrying Chuck. But I don't know the answer."

Click on over to NextMovie for their entire interview with Leighton, including her thoughts on making out with Dr. House.

  • Nikki Reed: Behind The Scenes Of The 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' Poster

An epic finale deserves an epic one sheet, which is exactly what "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" got on Tuesday following a worldwide countdown that culminated in the unveiling of the movie's poster.

Unlike previous key art, Edward (Robert Pattinson), Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) are depicted in motion, charging towards the Volturi during a climactic battle sequence, with the sprawling sky and Forks forest looming behind them. Fans might be surprised to hear, however, that according to one of the film's stars, the whole thing was shot on a stage and not in the snowy mountain wilds.

"I can't wait to see that whole scene; we had to really use our imaginations, because we shot that on a stage," Nikki Reed told MTV News while at the AXE Showerpooling campaign kick-off at USC in Los Angeles. "With these movies in general, we have to [use our imaginations]. With the wolves...there are these big cardboard cutouts that people carry and run with and they say, 'React! Here comes a wolf!' And you look, and there's a man holding a 10-foot wolf."

Despite the rigorous brain calisthenics required of Nikki and her cast mates during the sequence, the actress is optimistic about the outcome.

"I'm really excited to see how this turns out," she added. "I'm sure it will be great."

  • 'Pitch Perfect' Stars Suds Up And Sing

After watching this little mash-up of stars Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow teasing their singing-in-the-shower scene from "Pitch Perfect," you'd be forgiven for thinking that the a cappella comedy was a very different kind of movie...the kind that people get arrested for, y'know, "enjoying" too much in public places. AHEM. Just listen to the girls talk about their naked confrontation, and try not to get all hot and bothered.

"It was, like, steamy and humid and hot," Anna said. "So your voice is all warm and loose... Brittany and I just got real comfortable, real quick."

And let's just get it over with: by "real comfortable," she means, "brazenly nude."

"At the beginning we were trying to be very aware of our bits and pieces," Brittany remembered. But as they continued shooting, she said, the bits and pieces were pretty much just out and about. "It was hot," she said. "We were singing to each other, looking into each others' eyes..."

We won't spoil what happens after that (this is a family website, after all), but if you're looking for a hint, the words "Hitchcockian" and "pizza guy" come up shortly before the interview concludes...after which you may or may not need a nice, cold shower. Or possibly bail money, depending on where you're watching this and whether or not you have pants on.

Are you rarin' to see some naked singing in "Pitch Perfect"?

  • Paul Wesley Encourages A Trip To Daniel Gillies' 'Broken Kingdom'

The fraternity of bloodsuckers is a tight one, evidenced by the most recent tweet from "Vampire Diaries" hottie Paul Wesley. The actor took to the social networking site to recommend his friend Daniel Gillies' (a.k.a. Original Elijah) new film "Broken Kingdom," which had its official Hollywood premiere last night.

The independent film (which Daniel funded with $100,000 of his own money) tells the interwoven tales of a writer and a teacher, and has been a passion project of his for years. He's now giving it all away at $5 a pop!

"One of my producers said to me at one point, 'Are you sure you want to sell it for $5? That's just so cheap. Like, don't you want to make a little more because you spent so much money on the film?' And I said, 'To me, the only important thing is that people get to enjoy this movie. That's all that I care about,'" Daniel explained to Hollywood Crush recently. "I said, 'People can steal this.' The difference between stealing and $5 is not that much."

You can read more about "Broken Kingdom" (and its accompanying documentary "Kingdom Come") in our interview with Daniel.

  • 'Pitch Perfect' Star Brittany Snow Turns 'Fifty Shades' Of Red Thanks To Anna Kendrick

As if you needed any more reasons to love or be charmed by Anna Kendrick, I am delighted to present a hilarious exchange between the actress and her "Pitch Perfect" co-star Brittany Snow. I know what you're thinking, "Is it hilarious because they talk about how funny their new movie is?" Well no, we covered that here, but it is hilarious because the conversation is about the unnecessary shame Brittany feels in reading "Fifty Shades of Grey" and the intriguing story about how she came to own the book, all because I asked an innocent question about what the ladies were reading.

"What am I reading? No, now I can't say it, I'm going to be weird," Brittany said, which led me to ask her directly if she was reading "50 Shades," since that's the only book people seem shy to admit they are reading.

"Oh my God, you are, you dirty little bird!" Anna exclaimed. "I can't believe I was naked with you!" ("Pitch Perfect" SPOILER ALERT: The two ladies share a singing-in-the-shower scene that is awesome for non-pervy reasons.)

"I just started it and I'm so scared to read it," Brittany said.

"Have you gotten to the dirty bits yet?" Anna asked.

"I haven't, I just started. It's making me uncomfortable," Brittany answered. "I'm going to have to finish it but it's going to take me a while because my boyfriend might be weirded out."

"Be honest though are you reading it on a Kindle?" Anna asked, getting into full interrogation mode.

"No, I actually bought it at Costco which is, I think, even dirtier," Brittany admitted, which sent everyone in the room into fits of laughter. "It was in a bin and it was cheap, I thought 'I should just get it.'"

"I would pay so much money to go back in time and get somebody to paparazzi you at the Costco buying 'Fifty Shades of Grey,'" Anna said between giggles.

"Yeah, because I had gotten corn and spinach and 'Fifty Shades of Grey,'" Brittany continued.

    "You got corn?" Anna asked.

"I like big quantities of corn because I like to make corn on the cob," Brittany said, still laughing. (It took her a minute to get Anna's full meaning...)

Anyway, there you have it, Crushers. Brittany Snow: Corn-eater and "Fifty Shades of Grey" purchaser.

Corn or "Fifty Shades of Grey": Which do you prefer?

  • Lena Dunham Bares All About Baring All For 'Girls'

Lena Dunham knows that her "Girls" nude scenes are probably going to be hard to explain to her kids one day. But that most likely won't stop her from doffing her top when season two of her HBO series returns in January.

"There may be a time when I have to explain to my daughters, 'You probably shouldn't be naked on television.' Most situations, it's not a good idea to be naked on television," she said of her scantily clad scenes during Fortune magazine's annual Most Powerful Women Summit (via Reuters).

While her small-screen nakedness has been oft-discussed (and even mocked on the Emmys), so has the show's apparent lack of racial diversity. And that is something she is looking to shake up come next season. She noted that she felt "heartbreak at the idea that the show would make anyone feel isolated," adding that she plans to add "a multitude of new characters in the show. There are some of color. Some are not. Some are Caucasian... All I want to do is make women feel excited and included by the show."

In addition to some new girls, the show will also feature a bunch of new boys to make the lives of the Lena and her gal pals even more interesting.

"Patrick Wilson is amazing and so ugly it's so problematic how ugly Patrick Wilson is," Lena told MTV News. "I know it's sort of a clammy joke but what can you say about Patrick Wilson? And he's an amazing actor. He does something really amazing on the show that I'm really excited for people to see. There is the cutest assemblage of boys on the show this season, in addition to our regulars. [Donald] Glover and Patrick are who have been revealed and there are some other surprises who I think are equally delicious."

  • 'Pitch Perfect': Myth vs. Reality

by Jessica Marshall and Kat Rosenfield

It is mere days before "Pitch Perfect," starring Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Skylar Astin, hits theaters in wide release. Here at Hollywood Crush, we're exploring the answer to the burning question that a cappella enthusiasts the world over are anxious to know: Is the pitch-slapping a cappella action in this film going to pay true homage to the venerated musical institution? Two Crush writers—Jessica Marshall and Kat Rosenfield—just so happen to also be former college a cappella singers. They're taking a few beats to weigh in.

Jessica Marshall: So I hear this "Pitch Perfect" movie is coming out, based on Mickey Rapkin's popular book that takes a look inside the weird and wonderful world of college a cappella. You and I were both in a cappella groups in college. Should folks like us be excited to see this?

Kat Rosenfield: Having seen the film already, I believe they should. This movie is to a cappella singers what...um...what "Braveheart" is to Scottish people! This is our moment! And in all seriousness, really, it's about time that Hollywood wised up to the hotbed of drama, intrigue and musical mayhem that is the collegiate a cappella scene.

JM: Ooh, yes the musical mayhem. Let's talk about that for a minute, as I understand it plays a huge role in this film. I remember one of the most dramatic bits in my experience surrounded an impromptu Britney Spears sing-and-dance-off that my all-female group had with a male group after a joint concert. Things got really tense at the after-party when one of my girls totally blew one of their guys out of the water.

KR: Really? What happened? Did fisticuffs ensue??? Unfortunately, my co-ed group was way too busy hooking up with each other to ever truly excel musically; spontaneous riffing was beyond our capabilities. (Spontaneous herpes outbreaks, on the other hand...) So I can't wait for you to see the throw-downs between the all-lady Bellas and the male group, the Treblemakers. Who, by the way, appear to fulfill every based-in-truth stereotype of all male college a cappella groups. The oversized egos, the punny name, the bizarre delusion that their singing abilities will cause ladies to spontaneously disrobe at the first bass note...

JM: The loser engaged in fisticuffs with a nearby drink machine before storming out in a huff. While the vast majority of male a cappella groups seem to be like the Treblemakers, there are a few that aren't. And I think I met most of those groups...like one we sang a concert with who, rather than socializing with us at the after party, completely ignored us, broke out the board game Cranium and proceeded to play the most cutthroat tourney I've ever witnessed. But back to throwing down. While I love a good throw-down as much as the next music nerd, I kind of also want to hear the groups work together in tight tight harmonies (and maybe not just in song, eh!). After all, that is what a cappella singing is all about right?

KR: It is! I have no doubt that on top of the romantic drama between the rival groups, "Pitch Perfect" delivers lots and lots of marvelous arrangements to satisfy even the most die-hard a cappella geek. This movie clearly takes its music very seriously, even if the rest of it is slapstick gags and projectile vomiting. (Note: And by "even if" I mean "there is definitely projectile vomiting, confirmed.")

So, as a veteran of the a cappella scene and of an all-girl group, is there anything you're really hoping this movie will get right? Or anything you're hoping it doesn't?

JM: I'd like to see and hear some major girl power. I feel like all-female groups as a whole get a bad rap in real life for being less exciting to watch than male groups—not because they're less talented, but because they can be less dynamic. Female voices are stuck in a higher vocal range, which requires more concentration and effort to make it sound good—i.e. less bouncy fun dancing and choreography. On the other hand, for voices in lower ranges (i.e. non-castrati dudes), it's easier to multitask. And much like the Bellas are at the beginning of the film, all-female groups can often seem a little antiquated and traditional. There are many exceptions to this of course. And I want to see some aca-action that proves this!

KR: Aca-greed! (Oh God, did I just say that?) It's unfortunate that the evolution of a cappella into its current form—as opposed to, like, Renaissance-era madrigal singing—has really left girl groups at a disadvantage. Contemporary music relies so much on a heavy bassline and lots of percussion to give songs their energy, and those things are a challenge for even the most robust female voices. But "Pitch Perfect" seems to deliver—I mean, the arrangement of "No Diggity" alone proves that the Bellas know how to push the musical envelope.

JM: I must say, part of me always wanted to arrange that song for my group. But sadly, the most hardcore I ever got was trying to beat-box to Sarah McLachlan's "Ice Cream." But my embarrassing personal history with the institution of collegiate a cappella aside, it looks like a cappella singers are going to enjoy this movie. It seems like it will pay enough honest homage to our real-life experiences, while adding a little bit of that auto-tuned flair that we always wish we had in real life. What do you say, wanna go see it again with me?

KR: Yes! I will be there with bells on...or, rather, in true a cappella spirit, I will be there making bell-like noises with my mouth and doing a modest shimmy. Y'know, like you do.

  • Nikki Reed's 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' Bonus Scene Theory

Just call us She-lock Holmes because we've been snooping days now for clues regarding that mysterious "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" bonus scene teased by star Kellan Lutz recently. Yesterday, we asked cast mate Ashley Greene for her insight on the bite, but she didn't have much intel to shell. So, today, we turn to fellow saga starlet Nikki Reed, who seems to know something Ashley doesn't.

"If it's what I think it is, it's really awesome," she told MTV News at the AXE Showerpooling campaign kickoff at USC in L.A. "It was a surprise moment on set that was pretty incredible. That day, there were like 150 of us, and we all came together and planned this thing—this secret thing—and we surprised Bill, so I hope it's that thing."

When we informed her that we knew exactly what thing she was referring to—that "Sweet Dreams" dance number—Nikki revealed even more details about the stunt.

"It took a couple of practice runs, and we had one drill sergeant who was in charge of gathering everyone. It was really fun, and I got really into it. I was so into it that I wanted to be in the front row."

So there you have it, Crushers. Stay in your seats following the credits for a bonus scene that may or may not include the Volturi doing the Running Man.

  • 'Butter' Stars Ashley Greene, Olivia Wilde Come Unhinged During After Hours

Are you considering a career in entertainment journalism? Do you think that interviewing celebrities sounds fun, rewarding, maybe even easy? Hey! So did we! But when MTV News' Josh Horowitz sat down for an After Hours chat with the stars of "Butter," it became quite clear, quite quickly, that something was not quite right...as evidenced by this video, which we're politely referring to as a "Bloopers" reel.

And by "politely," we mean more polite than the truth, which is that somebody spiked the actors' punch with Crazy. Whether a mass conspiracy or something in the water, there was no end to the bizarre madness that ensued as Josh tried in vain to conduct his interviews, from Jennifer Garner and Ty Burrell being unable to field a question without talking across and over each other, to Ashley Greene taking offense at everything and committing assault with a pack of cue cards, to Rob Corddry making threats and refusing to leave his chair. It's all very weird and downright sinister, really.

Except for Olivia Wilde, of course. She's like that pretty much all the time.

What do you think of our "Bloopers" reel?
