Though Affleck has a number of other projects in the works as a director, Deadline claims that it is Lehane's novel that has his interest now. Affleck began his career as a director helming another Lehane adaptation, "Gone Baby Gone."
"Live By Night" is the second book of a proposed trilogy. The series' first installment, "The Given Day," was originally optioned by Sam Raimi, but that project didn't go very far.
Amazon Book Description:
Prohibition has given rise to an endless network of underground distilleries, speakeasies, gangsters, and corrupt cops. Joe Coughlin, the youngest son of a prominent Boston police captain, has long since turned his back on his strict and proper upbringing. Now having graduated from a childhood of petty theft to a career in the pay of the city's most fearsome mobsters, Joe enjoys the spoils, thrills, and notoriety of being an outlaw.
But life on the dark side carries a heavy price. In a time when ruthless men of ambition, armed with cash, illegal booze, and guns, battle for control, no one—neither family nor friend, enemy nor lover—can be trusted. Beyond money and power, even the threat of prison, one fate seems most likely for men like Joe: an early death. But until that day, he and his friends are determined to live life to the hilt.

Переслать - Ridley Scott Gives 'Prometheus 2' And 'Blade Runner 2' Updates
Just in the time for the Blu-ray release of "Prometheus," director Ridley Scott spoke with Metro U.K. about his two proposed sci-fi sequels, a follow-up to his "Alien" prequel and the long-rumored second "Blade Runner."
The filmmaker spoke candidly about the possibilities for the sequels, even openly talking about where a sequel to "Prometheus" would take us.
" 'Prometheus' evolved into a whole other universe," Scott said.

It pleases us to no end that a "Prometheus" sequel would follow the further adventures of Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw and Michael Fassbender's head.
"You've got a person with a head in a bag that functions and has an IQ of 350," Scott said. "It can explain to her how to put the head back on the body and she's gonna think about that long and hard because, once the head is back on his body, he's dangerous. They're going off to paradise but it could be the most savage, horrible place. Who are the Engineers?"
As for the "Blade Runner" follow-up, Scott talked about it as a certainty with Harrison Ford's involvement being the major question mark.
"It's not a rumor – it's happening," he said. "With Harrison Ford? I don't know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don't know how long he can live [laughs]. And that's all I'm going to say at this stage."

Переслать - New 'Gangster Squad' Trailer: Crazy, Stupid, Guns
The trailer for "Zero Dark Thirty" isn't the only new preview that has made us reconsider our positions on a movie today. A vastly superior second trailer for "Gangster Squad" made its way online yesterday, upping the amount of gunplay and Emma Stone-Ryan Gosling interactions, our two main concerns.
The other notable difference in this trailer is the teasing of the new ending, which was filmed during reshoots after the Aurora, Colorado tragedy came eerily close to mirroring the original ending of "Gangster Squad."
It looks like the new conclusion will take the team of black ops cops to L.A.'s Chinatown, the home of many classic noir tales.
You can check out the entire new trailer for "Gangster Squad" below.
"Gangster Squad" will hits theaters on January 11.

Переслать - It's Time You Got Excited For 'Zero Dark Thirty'
Up until this point, Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" has seemed more like an inevitability than a coming attraction. Someone was bound to make an Osama Bin Laden movie, and we just so happen to be lucky enough to get Bigelow behind it.
Great, but we all know what happened. We've read the stories about that night in Abbottabad and what did or did not officially happen. Could Bigelow, even if she was responsible for "The Hurt Locker," spin a story that we not only already know but one that we just heard into a compelling film?
If the newest trailer for "Zero Dark Thirty" is any indication, we might want to reconsider our stance, because it looks incredible.
As is typical for a second trailer, we're beginning to see the makings of a complete movie. The first teaser essentially laid out an idea without any hint of structure, look, or character. In this preview, however, we have a story beyond "that Osama Bin Laden" movie.
From its exquisitely photographed opening moments, the trailer commands your attention. A haunting voice over from Jason Clarke reminds us that the ensemble Bigelow has assembled for this picture would, on its own, merit our collective attention.
Perhaps the most essential piece of the cast also emerges in the trailer. "Zero Dark Thirty" looks like it will be as much as an ensemble piece as a it will be a chance for Jessica Chastain to once again show off her impeccable talents.
Needless to say, "Zero Dark Thirty" has our attention.
"Zero Dark Thirty" opens on December 19.

Переслать - Should Colin Farrell Give Up Drama For Comedy?
By Colin Greten
"Seven Psychopaths" written and directed by Martin McDonagh premieres today with a strong ensemble cast including Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell and Abbie Cornish. This will be Colin Farrell's second starring role in a film with McDonagh and first since he won the Best Performance by an Actor in a Comedy or Musical Golden Globe for the crime dramedy "In Bruges." "Seven Psychopaths" is already garnering a lot of buzz with critics, who almost unanimously enjoying its blend of crime and comedy. So it's really time to consider, is Colin Farrell better suited for comedy rather than drama?
Colin Farrell has always been a different type of movie star. He has consistently received starring roles in films and yet does not have one film that truly defines his career. He has taken roles to boost his resume as a serious actor and, at the same time, been involved in some box office disasters. However, when looking through his previous films one thing sticks out about Farrell; his comedic roles generally result in better responses from critics and viewers, and for the most part higher box office success.
Although Farrell had been funny in previous roles (especially as Bulls-eye in "Daredevil"), he was never supposed to be funny until "In Bruges." That film is not purely comedic, as its humor is a bit dark; however, it showed that Farrell could be really funny when asked to be. The film starts out slow but, thanks to great performances by both Farrell and fellow Irishman Brendan Gleeson, gained widespread acclaim.
A few years later Farrell was cast "Horrible Bosses" as the coked-out, balding, bloated, and complete douche (for lack of a better word), Bobby Pellitt. Farrell is only in a few scenes of the film and is almost unrecognizable yet is utterly hilarious and perhaps even underutilized. The film was a rousing success grossing well over $100 million in US theaters despite a mere $35 million production budget, and even has a sequel in development.
That same year, Farrell starred as the wickedly funny, yet evil vampire who lives next door in "Fright Night." Although the film did not blow anyone away with ticket sales, it was well-received by both critics and viewers. Now that's three recent films in which Farrell played an at least somewhat comedic roles and each was successful in a sense. Can the same be said for his more dramatic roles?
This past summer, Colin Farrell starred in a remake of Arnold Schwarzenegger's classic action film, "Total Recall" which despite a large budget—approximately $125 million—failed to reach audiences at all, grossing fewer than $60 million in the US. This is not the only time this has happened in his career. Oliver Stone's "Alexander" is one of the biggest flops of all time. The same can be said for films like "Pride and Glory," and "Miami Vice," high expectations resulting in utter disappointment. While every Hollywood star has their fair share of flops, it is odd that Colin Farrell is perhaps more "hit and miss" with his dramatic roles than anyone in the industry.
Martin McDonagh originally gave Farrell a chance to show his range as a comedic actor in a somewhat dramatic film. Seven Psychopaths gives Colin Farrell another chance to do so, and already looks like it will be a success. Hopefully this will result in an abundance of comedic roles for Farrell, who as we now know, is pretty funny. It is probably too soon to say, but who knows maybe we'll be seeing more of this:Переслать
