Photo:Justin Bieber's presence in our Times Square studio for the 30-minute special "Bieber Live" was cause for celebration, expertly timed with the release of his new album, Believe, which arrived in stores today.
Bieber kicked off the MTV News special with a stripped-down performance of "Die in Your Arms," which, in addition to inducing frenzied screams from the 100 lucky fans in the audience, set the tone for an insightful and lighthearted look into how much of himself Bieber put into the new album.
Speaking to his inspiration for the dance track "All Around the World," featuring Ludacris, Bieber said he was introduced to more and more dance music throughout his world travels and wanted to be able to showcase it in some way on Believe.
"I wanted to incorporate it somewhat into my music and not overly use it," he said. "But I felt like 'All Around the World' has that melodic feel to it, but also that dance feel, so I felt that was the perfect song for me."
Bieber said he is grateful Ludacris was able to contribute to another one of his songs.
"To reunite with him was awesome," Bieber said of Ludacris. "All my fans now love Luda because of 'Baby,' so having him back on this song was great. I'm taller than him now," he added with a smile.
The 18-year-old was also happy to surprise the audience with two special gifts: a copy of Believe and a bottle of his new fragrance, Girlfriend, which he described as being "not too fruity, nice and flowery."
"I told them they have to smell like all of my fans," Bieber said of what he wanted the perfume manufacturers to incorporate in the fragrance. "Not too fruity, nice and flowery. There's a cherry scent in there. In each bottle of Girlfriend, there's a little bit of my sweat, it's a secret ingredient," he joked.
In closing, Bieber thanked his devoted fans, but also offered up a message to those who aren't yet fans or haven't given him a chance.
"I was very involved in the process [of making this album] — I played instruments, produced, wrote — so I want people to know it's not all hype," he said. "I want people to know I've been working hard on my music. Focus on the music. Don't think I'm just this product pushed out there. I work hard, and music is really important to me. I see a lot of hate online, which is inevitable, but at the end of the day, I'm just trying to prove them wrong by making good music."

'Weeds' actor, who was up for the role of Peeta in 'Hunger Games,' tells MTV News he'd 'love' to play Finnick in the sequel.
By Kara WarnerOur fellow "Hunger Games" fans will likely recall the fact that the casting process for the first film garnered more than a few headlines, particularly regarding the roles of Katniss, Peeta and Gale. Now that those roles have long been filled and the movie has gone on to break box-office records, we have been focused on the casting rumors around its sequel, "Catching Fire."
While Lionsgate hasn't made any announcements about who will join the cast for the sequel, particularly as fan-favorite character Finnick Odair, that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from churning out likely prospects. One of the fan-supported candidates is "Weeds" actor Hunter Parrish, who was also an early favorite to play Peeta until Josh Hutcherson won the role.
When MTV News caught up with Parrish recently to discuss the release of his first single, "Sitting at Home," we couldn't help but ask for his thoughts on the franchise and also being considered for Finnick.
"This whole 'Hunger Games' thing, man ... I've read all of the books, because I've been through this once before," Parrish said. "It was very exciting for me [to be considered] for the first movie, to be a part of that, and I read all of the books at that time, and I loved the script and the director and Jennifer Lawrence who was cast at that point. I saw it as something very exciting, and I was very excited about it, but it wasn't [meant to be]. Josh is also a friend of mine, and I haven't seen the film yet, but people say amazing things about it, and he's great, he's perfect. We've worked together before, and he's a great actor," Parrish said sincerely.
While Parrish is grateful for the fan support behind the Finnick campaign, his experience from the first round of casting has him feeling more cautious about things this time around.
"I kind of dove in for that one, so for this one, I don't know," he said. "I think you just kind of step back, and if it happens, it happens. I'm not going to really spend too much time thinking about it, but I'd love to. I wouldn't cast myself, but that's not helping me getting cast for that movie," he joked. "But I'm a fan of the books. I think there's fantastic actors that would probably be better. So there's that for getting me a job!"
In continuing with his gracious thoughts about other actors he'd consider for Finnick, we asked Parrish if he wanted to give a shout-out to any for fun.
"No, I wouldn't go that far!" he laughed. "I still want the job, I'm just saying ... "

Переслать - Justin Bieber's 'Die In Your Arms' Inspired By MJ Footage
'It's Michael's personality ... it's some really special stuff,' pop star tells MTV News during 'Bieber Live.'
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Sway CallowayJustin Bieber is the first to admit that there are a wide variety of sounds and musicians that influenced his latest release, Believe. When he stopped by MTV's Times Square studio for the 30-minute special "Bieber Live" on Tuesday night (June 19) — which he kicked off with a stripped-down performance of "Die in Your Arms" — Bieber shared a few behind-the-music secrets about his process of writing and recording the song with legendary producer Rodney Jerkins.
"Before I got in the booth, [Rodney] showed me this hour-long video of Michael [Jackson] footage, never been seen before. It's Michael's personality, him in the booth dancing. It's some really special stuff," Bieber recalled. "So me seeing that, going in there and being inspired and working with Rodney, who worked with Michael — it was incredible."
The 18-year-old also commented on an incredible compliment from Roots drummer ?uestlove, who recently tweeted Bieber's praise in the form of a challenge to his fellow hip-hop artists: "Dear hip hop, why are @justinbieber's drums on 'right here' more crispier & cleaner & louder and better than 96% of what was made in 2012?"
"To hear that from ?uest, he's a legend. I think it's great," Bieber said. "I basically focused on this album for everything to be perfect. To work with these producers that can give me that urban sound but also make it me, that's what we did. I got to work with amazing artists like Drake [who's featured on 'Right Here'], and I feel like the world, I don't know if they're ready for it."

Cover features rapper sitting with ex-wife Kelis' wedding gown draped across his knee.
By Rob Markman
Nas' Life is Good album cover
Photo:A bright splash of green is all it took to make the album cover for Nas' Life Is Good pop, but coincidentally for God's Son, it's all just a case of the blues.
"The cover is like an old blues man talking about his life," Nas told MTV News about the striking image for his upcoming 10th solo shot.
There's Nasir Jones, sitting pensive, with his hand to his chin, wearing a crisp white, casually unbuttoned suit. On his lap is a green wedding dress, the same green wedding dress that his ex-wife Kelis wore during their 2005 wedding ceremony; the same green dress that she left hanging in his closet after their divorce.
When VH1 profiled the rapper on their "Behind the Music" special, the usually private Nas spoke in detail about his split from the R&B singer. "She took her stuff out of the house and left her green wedding dress. And that was all she left," he said, his voice marked by heartbreak.
It was in that very moment, during the VH1 interview, that Nas knew what he had to do for his next album cover. "It clicked right there. You're saying it even in your interview, it's like a given that this should allude to this being on the cover, that statement," he said. "Some things you can't plan, they happen."
Throughout his career, the gifted lyricist has always delivered strong images, and it's all very deliberate. Before fans even got a complete listen of Nas' 1994 classic debut Illmatic, the album's cover let you know that you were in for something special. The cover image of a prepubescent Nas, with his hardened gaze juxtaposed against his native Queensbridge housing project has become just as indelible as the 10 tracks that it housed.
On his next three album covers, Nas built upon that first Illmatic image. The front panel for his 1996 sophomore disc It Was Written re-created the same look, but with an image of a more grown-up Nas. On I Am, Nasir once again posed against Queensbridge, but this time he appeared as a pharaoh. And on Nastradamus, he used the same backdrop but played the role of a prophet, with a brown hood over his head.
By the time 2001's Stillmatic was released, Nas had abandoned the Queensbridge concept and created an image faintly reminiscent of Slick Rick's 1988 debut, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. With 2004's Street's Disciple cover, Esco re-created a Last Supper theme, and on his controversial 2008 Untitled album, a shirtless Nas appeared as a slave, with welts on his back that formed the letter 'N.'
When the already-iconic MC looks back at his career, he wants to be remembered for his cover art. He takes his cues from memorable LPs like Earth Wind & Fire's Last Days and Time and Iron Maiden's self-titled 1980 debut. "I wanna be the one, like Earth Wind & Fire and Iron Maiden, like album covers that just really stand out," he said. "I want to be the guy with the best album cover story."
Life Is Good is due out July 17.

2 Chainz, who is currently touring with Drake, will join the Young Money queen for the North American leg starting in July.
By Rob MarkmanWhen 2 Chainz and YMCMB hook up, good things are bound to happen. With only two more dates left on Drake's Club Paradise run, it was announced on Tuesday (June 19) that Drizzy's tourmate, 2 Chainz, will be joining Nicki Minaj on the North American leg of her Pink Friday Tour.
The two first hooked up on Nicki's "Beez in the Trap" single earlier this year, but their relationship actually dates back to around 2008, when the both were on the road with Lil Wayne. "I've known Nicki for a minute; I met her on the I Am Music Tour, the first leg with Wayne," 2 Chainz told MTV News in April. "It was cool, we had a great relationship, we used to talk, trip out here and there."
"He's an amazing dude, very hard worker," Nicki told us in April.
Their camaraderie was evident in the "Beez in the Trap" video as Minaj shared a dance with the Atlanta MC. Nicki has been known to give lap dances to guests during her shows, so don't be surprised if she and Tity Boi share a special moment or two when they hit the road in Chicago on July 16.
The news comes a day after 2 Chainz and Drake dropped their video for "No Lie." The rising single is the first off his upcoming solo debut Based on a T.R.U. Story, which is slated to drop on August 14, two days after he and Nicki wrap up their last scheduled date in Vancouver, B.C.

MTV News talks to Billy Corgan about his 'I'll piss on Radiohead' comment and the Pumpkins' freewheeling new disc.
By James MontgomeryFirst things first: Billy Corgan would like it to be known that he does not actually want to piss on Radiohead, despite the interview he gave last week in which he declared, rather matter-of-factly, "I'll piss on Radiohead."
Turns out, most things involving Corgan, the Smashing Pumpkins or anything else Corgan's done over the past 25 years (professional wrestling, Scorpions' concept albums, Zwan) cannot adequately be described as "matter of fact." So here, in the same all-in manner in which he approaches most aspects of his life, is his full explanation of that Radiohead quote and the ensuing fallout it caused.
"Look, if anybody wants any insight into my real character, I'm willing to play the fool, to point out where things are foolish. For example, addressing the Radiohead quote, where the quote was 'I'll piss on Radiohead.' The context of the quote was saying 'I'm willing to poke fun at something because there's so much pomposity around it that it's treated as reverent and holy,' " Corgan told MTV News. "So what ends up happening? The quote ends up getting picked up, which shows [people think] 'How dare anybody criticize the band that's un-criticizable?' And that's really funny; why is a band un-criticizable? I'm an artist who it is apparently OK to criticize, and I've made a career out of playing with that criticism and subverting it.
"One of my main complaints about the music business is that it ignores a lot of music that people really, really like. Heavy metal being particularly one of them. You can say in a crowded room that 'Oh I love Radiohead,' and everyone goes, 'Oh yeah, me too.' But if you say 'I love Iron Maiden,' people go 'What?' " he continued. "That's not cool, and yet, heavy metal bands seem to sell a lot of records and draw a lot of fans. Why are those fans ignored? It's the same high school game ... it's still the same sh--. It's still some guy in a corner with a beard telling me I'm not cool enough, yet I pioneered the very form of music that he's still talking about 20 f---ing years later."
Get it? Good. Corgan wasn't taking a shot at Radiohead but rather the industry that has turned them into sacred cows. And if he sounds bitter, well, that's because he is. After all, unlike most of his alt-rock contemporaries, he's rarely the subject of voluminous praise, and the past decade of his work has, to varying degrees, largely been ignored by the mainstream. Though all of that may change with the Pumpkins' brand-new Oceania album, which, thanks to its voluminous scope, ringing solos and proudly anachronistic aesthetics — hour-plus running time, lack of discernible singles and the like — has critics talking about a full-blown Pumpkins' revival.
And yes, Mr. Corgan finds all of that very amusing indeed.
"Part of the steam and energy behind the new Smashing Pumpkins record is very few people actually thought I'd make a great record again, I'm not oblivious to that," he said. "And it gives very little credit to the fact that I haven't been trying to make great records. I've been trying to make records in a different definition; the cultural zeitgeist version of a great record, I haven't been trying that for a long time. I just don't think there's an upside in it. Where is the upside in making a great record if the critical class isn't going to review it properly, isn't going to give it historical context, and is going to give some guy in his basement who has one good song the Hosanna review, like he's Jesus Christ walking on water. Once you see that system, you just lose interest."
And that truly seems to be the point of Oceania. Corgan isn't interested in making top 10 lists, earning raves or placing singles on modern rock radio. Instead, he just felt the need to make an artistic statement: This is who he is, 25 years into his career, without any regrets. Whether you listen or not is largely up to you; either way, he's content to be misunderstood. In fact, "content" may be an understatement.
"I [used to be] hell-bent before on destroying the bridges that I had just crossed. I don't feel the need to do that anymore. I don't feel the need to honor anything in particular, I don't feel the need to be a certain type of musician, I don't feel the need to exist in a particular culture," he said. "Because as far as I'm concerned, alternative culture on the edges has dismissed me repeatedly for, what, being an artist? That's a really strange thing. And mainstream culture has ignored me repeatedly for not selling enough records, and yet I've managed to sell a lot of records. So, ultimately, what I'd say to anybody is, true independence means you're not going to have the normal people stand up and vote for you. You have to go on your own."

Rapper talks to MTV News about working on Believe ahead of 'Bieber Live' at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV!
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Rob MarkmanWhen Justin Bieber enlisted Big Sean for his Believe track "As Long As You Love Me," the 24-year-old MC didn't clean up his NSFW act. Instead, Sean found a new way to express his more mature lyrics to the Bieber crowd.
"Bieber's a true G. People may not know that," Big Sean said recently. "Nah, but he is a good dude, man. And I ain't toning down nothing — I'm diverse, I can write raps to any type of song."
Sean also revealed to MTV News that on the same day he was recruited to work with the pop star, the rapper got a call from another artist — one who exists on the polar opposite end of the musical spectrum — also wanting to work with him.
"It's crazy! I got a call from Gucci Mane the same day I got a call from Bieber and his people to do two different projects," Big Sean recalled. "It's tight that I can be a person that's so diverse that I can do both of those and it's not reaching. I'm still me ... and I didn't compromise anything for Bieber. You know, I just didn't curse, which is easy. I don't have to curse every day."
Of course, the Bieber/Sean collaboration is definitely more in Justin territory thanks to a pulsing dance beat, courtesy of producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. The pair go back and forth about that special girl over some fist-pumping beats.
But Sean is hardly the only rapper who's giving Believe the co-sign: Drake, Ludacris and Nicki Minaj all make cameos on the release, out on Tuesday (June 19). When we spoke to Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, he told us the singer worked hard to make sure the cameos fit perfectly.
"[Justin] and I are both very competitive, and he'd always look at me and go, 'This is the make-it-or-break-it album, and you got to push me. You got to tell me if I'm not good enough, and I might argue' ... so I really, really pushed him, and we took this album really seriously," Braun said. (Bieber will talk all about the making of the album tonight on "Bieber Live," set to air at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV!)
"But I also had to give it room to grow," he added. "Sometimes I'd put him in writing sessions for two weeks, and we'd get one song out of it, and it was just because he had to find that place for himself and that music. And as the process went on, he really started hitting his stride. ... And I think everyone has a different favorite, but the one common thread is you don't dislike any songs."
Don't miss "Bieber Live" tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV!

Let's kill some time before Wednesday's sneak peek by thinking up our dream trailer, in 'Twilight' Tuesday.

Robert Pattinson in "Breaking Dawn - Part 2"
Photo:Is it Wednesday yet?
We are anxiously awaiting the debut of yet another expectedly epic teaser trailer for "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," and although there was a brief moment of reprieve when we got a sneak peek at 13 seconds of the teaser on Tuesday (June 19), we're now in full-on obsessive analytical mode, which means it's time to think about the five things we're hoping to see in this new trailer:
Renesmee, Renesmee, Renesmee
As much as we'd like to ooh and ahh over how cute Edward and Bella's progeny is as a baby, now that we've seen a photo of Mackenzie Foy as Renesmee, we're thirsty for scenes of the young lass in action. Baby? What baby? As we all know, her existence is a continued threat to the Volturi, so we're hoping to see some of that intensity play out.New Vampires!
It seems like I write about this every week, but I'm still dying to see more of those new additions to the cast, i.e. all the other vampires from the non-Cullen clan. Where and why are you hiding Garrett, Carmen, Irina, etc.?Vampire Bella's Mind Tricks
We very likely won't be seeing Bella's secret superpower until the end of the movie, but how about showing us a little sample of what she can do with her soon-to-be-superstrong mental force field? I'll settle for a quick glimpse of her arm-wrestling battle royale with Emmett, but it would be great to see how Bill Condon and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg adapted Stephenie Meyer's description of Bella's mind tricks. The Next Great "Twilight" Song
Biased as I am, it's going to be hard for anyone to top the Edward/Bella love song from "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," "Turning Page" by Sleeping at Last, but in knowing the caliber of the "Twilight" soundtracks, I'm betting it will include several potential new favorite songs. So why not give us a little listen in this new trailer?Jacob Not Being Creepy With Renesmee
I am all about my love for Jacob, but the whole imprinting on Renesmee thing still creeps me out. I know, I know, he only feels and thinks about his total devotion to the young lady, but I just can't get past the oddness of it all. Something that would help me get over that is if I could see how Taylor Lautner's Jacob interacts with Foy as Renesmee. What do you want to see in the trailer? Переслать - Katy Perry's 'Wide Awake' Video: Five Key Scenes
In her new clip, Katy mixes the fantastical with the autobiographical, and MTV News is here to break down the most important moments.
By James Montgomery
Katy Perry in her "Wide Awake" music video
Photo:Katy Perry closes the book on the Teenage Dream era with her new "Wide Awake" video, a classically creepy (yet slightly candy-colored), Lewis-Carroll indebted fairy tale that doesn't shy away from mixing the fantastical with the autobiographical.
Which means it's a treat for both fans and armchair analysts alike. And while you could spend an afternoon sifting through various scenes to understand their deeper significance (minotaur hospital attendants = critics who hated "The Smurfs"?), we figured it would be easier to just highlight a few key moments for you right now.
So, for your perusal, here are five important moments form Katy's "Wide Awake" video, each rife with psychological meaning. Or, you know, cool imagery. Same diff.
Katy Pushes Back: After literally going through the looking glass, Katy arrives in an eerie labyrinth, one we're pretty sure represents the constraints of celebrity. Tellingly, as soon as she enters, the walls begin closing in on her — only, rather than be crushed, Katy draws on her Samson-like inner-strength (and summons the same kind of pyrotechnics we saw in her "Firework" video) and sends the walls reeling. The message seems clear: Nobody puts Katy in a corner.
Katy Meets Her Former Self: Early in her journey, Katy comes face to face with a young girl who clearly represents her former innocence (just in case it wasn't clear, we later see the same girl get on a bike with a vanity plate that reads "KATHERYN"). With the trappings of fame comes the longing for simpler times, and Lil Katy helps guide her grown-up self through her perilous voyage — and even helps save her. Clearly, nostalgia is a powerful thing.
Katy's World Crumbles: After being hounded by pesky paparazzi, Katy's entire fantasy world begins to fall apart. It's a testament to the fact that, no matter how amazing a celeb's life may seem from the outside, the constant glare of the spotlight is enough to bring even the most famous down. After the encounter, Perry is left debilitated, confined to a wheelchair and unable to defend herself. Luckily for her, Lil Katy is there to protect her.
Katy Makes Her Escape: She powers past those naysayers and finally makes it to the exit of the labyrinth. Clearly, this is meant to show that no matter how tough things get, Katy is tougher, and, with her former self in tow, she bolts for the door — out of the madness and into (presumably) greener pastures.
Katy Punches Prince Charming: It's the scene everyone's talking about, and it's pretty clear who the disingenuous prince is meant to represent (here's a hint: it rhymes with "Bussell Rand"). At first, she's smitten, but, as her suitor goes in for a kiss, Katy spies him crossing his fingers behind his back — and responds with a pretty nifty right cross of her own. The impact is made even better by the "Oh damn!" expression that crosses Lil Katy's face. And with that, our fairy tale reaches its happy ending, with Katy surviving unscathed and ready for whatever comes next.
What did you think of Katy's latest video? Let us know in the comments!

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis
Photo:Johnny Depp is back on the market. After a relationship that spanned 14 years, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star has officially called it quits with his longtime girlfriend, French actress Vanessa Paradis.
In a statement to ABC News, Depp's publicist stated that the couple had "amicably separated." The statement asks that people "respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children."
Depp, 48, and Paradis, 39, have two children together but were never married. The two met in 1998 and moved in together shortly after that. They made their home in Plan-de-la-Tour in the south of France, where they stayed for several years. When asked about marriage, Paradis told Elle magazine, "I love the romance of 'let's get married,' but then, when you have it so perfect ... I mean, I'm more married than anybody can be — we have two kids. Maybe one day, but it's something I can really do without."
Many sources have reported that the relationship has been rocky for some time now. Hints that the relationship was deteriorating began to surface after they returned to L.A. from France. Depp and Paradis haven't appeared on a red carpet as a couple in longer than a year.
In 2010, Paradis hinted to Marie Claire magazine that the two were growing apart: "I could make an endless list of all the things I admire about him," she said. "We understand that, if we want our relationship to continue, we must give each other space, allow each other to go off on our own, and trust each other. Not everyone is lucky enough to be given space and trust."
Depp was last seen at the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month, where he received the Generation Award and jammed with the Black Keys. He is currently looking forward to his next blockbuster project, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5," which is slated to hit theatres in 2013.
Переслать - Justin Bieber MTV Special Will Be A 'TRL' Throwback!
'We have some surprises,' manager Scooter Braun teases about 'Bieber Live' airing tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
By Jocelyn VenaIf you're wondering what to expect from Tuesday night's (June 19) MTV special, "Bieber Live," you need only think back to the days of "Total Request Live."
Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, has fond memories of the biggest stars visiting "TRL" to promote their latest record or movie back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and he wanted to capture some of that flavor tonight's show, airing at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Bieber is set to sit down with host Sway Calloway and some of his most devoted Beliebers as they celebrate the release of his brand-new album, Believe.
And if Bieber talking about his latest LP isn't enough, know that he'll also be performing! Braun is keeping the details about the special top secret, but did have a little tease for fans.
"So, he's gonna come in, he's gonna do 'Boyfriend' and he's probably gonna do something broken-down acoustic — a new version of one of the songs — and we have some surprises," Scooter told us. "And we're gonna have some fun. We want to bring it back to the old 'TRL' [days].
When we caught up with him last Friday, Braun also opened up about the conversations he had with Bieber as the teen star began recording tracks for his highly anticipated release. He noted that the album's sound reflects more than just a transition: It shows the 18-year-old's evolution.
"I think a lot of times with big superstars they don't always deliver on that big album," he said. "They don't meet the expectation ... sometimes it's because they're [already] superstars. Maybe they think they know it all and they don't want to listen to anyone else's input, and sometimes that works and sometimes that doesn't.
"He's growing and so is his music," Braun later added. "And I don't think he's transitioning and losing any fans. I think he's just growing. We always study Michael Jackson, and the thing I loved about his career is he never lost that 2-year-old that bounced to his music. But at the same time, you'd go to a club and there were adults bouncing also. And I think that's what we want to do with Justin."

Martin Hill tells the Daily how he set the stage with the visually arresting opening scene.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
An Engineer in "Prometheus"
Photo:This article contains "Prometheus" spoilers.
Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" begins with some of the film's most arresting images. A hairless, pale-skinned Engineer stands atop a waterfall. He drinks a liquid that we may never learn more about, disintegrates and, in turn, creates all of life on Earth.
The visuals set the stage for the rest of the film and show Scott's use of 3-D simultaneously, and now, new videos from the Daily explore the effects work that went into making that shot and the Prometheus' crash with the Engineer ship.
Visual effects supervisor Martin Hill from WETA Digital goes into great detail during his interview about the opening sequence, the creation of life. Not only was the team challenged with creating an impressive visual, but one that succinctly told a complex story.
"Because we had such a short amount of time to tell the story of the DNA getting infected, breaking apart, and then re-forming and recombining to show Earth DNA, we had to make the designs of the different DNA quite graphical, quite illustrative of what they were," Hill said.
After some time, the sequence shifts to the microscopic level, traveling inside the veins of the Engineer. For those sequences, Scott instructed the visual effects team to emphasize the destruction being done.
"The Engineer's DNA, we thought, 'This needs to be quite sinister, but we know it's going to get infected, and the infection has to look more messed up than the Engineer's DNA,' " Hill said. "We used quite a light color palette for Engineer's DNA, and then the infection comes on and it's very melted looking. Ridley actually said to us, 'It has to feel like war in there. The DNA is just being torn apart.' "
The actual scene of genetic destruction came together from computer-generated elements, but the inspiration for the look came from a very real-life source of inspiration.
"We try to use as much reality as possible, so we were looking at all different kinds of reference, so eventually we settled on fish bones, actual decayed fish spines, to represent the structure of the DNA," Hill said. "For the infection that rolls across the infected DNA, what we did was carve actual blocks of silicone with the vein structures in there and pumped black ink and oils and all kinds of different materials through those, filmed them, and used the motion of those as the basis for all of our effects for the veins and the effect coursing through his body."

Переслать - Jack Osbourne's Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis: What Does It Mean?
Experts say that Osbourne has a promising range of treatment options.
By Gil KaufmanA few tell-tale signs are what clued Jack Osbourne into the fact that something was seriously wrong with his health. The son of hard rock icon Ozzy and "America's Got Talent" judge Sharon Osbourne revealed earlier this week that he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis earlier this spring.
According to the "Today Show," Osbourne, 26, decided to visit a doctor when he noticed tingling in his extremities and suffered a 60 percent loss of vision in one eye.
MS is an autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system and which currently has no cure, but is very treatable. It causes inflammation in the brain and spinal cord resulting in the loss of myelin, the insulation around nerves. Among the symptoms are: loss of vision, numbness, tingling, excessive fatigue and weakness. The effects can range from mild to debilitating, but experts said that with the right mix of medications and doctors Osbourne has a good chance at leading a fulfilling life.
"The prognosis now is better than it's ever been," neurologist Dr. David Snyder, director of the Multiple Sclerosis Center at New York Hospital Queens told the morning show. "We have treatments we just never had before."
The disease can affect any organ system in the body, according to NBC chief medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman. "Every nerve has insulation around it and MS attacks that insulation so that the electrical impulses from the brain to tips of fingers and toes don't work as well," she said. The key for Osbourne is keeping in tune with any changes to his body and getting on the right mix of medicines to help slow down the progress of flare-ups.
"Now somebody on medication, treated early, we're very hopefully we're interrupting the natural course of the disease," Snyder said. "Patients are leading full lives, with families, jobs and travel."
While some people have not responded well to treatments, he said a large number do and lead full, if slightly modified, lives that may require a cane or other precautions. Around 400,000 people in the U.S. have MS, with 200 new cases diagnosed each week. Like other autoimmune diseases, MS affects more women than men, affecting females two to three times more than men.
Osbourne is right in peak age range in which most cases are diagnosed (late teens, 20s and 30s), which is why his revelation is not a surprise to experts. Snyder said that given Osbourne's age, his prognosis is relatively bright.

'You saw the Birthday Bash stage set on fire,' King of the South tells MTV News of the Atlanta's 17th annual hip-hip festival.

Lil Wayne performs at 107.9's Birthday Bash on June 16, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia
Photo:The folks at Hot 107.9 in Atlanta sure know how to throw a party. For their 17th annual Birthday Bash, the southern radio staple celebrated with a who's who of top rap talent like Lil Wayne, T.I., Usher, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy and about 20,000 hip-hop fanatics.
"Every time I come it's just a new energy," Miami MC Rick Ross told MTV News immediately after he jumped off the Philips Arena stage. "ATL, for the South, is a very special place, and I feel like anybody from the South, they're gonna recognize that and it's a beautiful thing. It was a wonderful night."
The magnitude of the concert still isn't lost on Lil Jon, a Birthday Bash veteran. "I can't even believe there has been 17 Birthday Bashes, and I probably been to 10 of them, so it's always good to be in the hometown where it all started from," he said.
Gucci Mane estimates that he's performed at the annual throwdown four or five times already. In 2010, he brought out his protégé Waka Flocka Flame, and this year, he graciously shared the stage with hometown favorite DG Yola, who was recently incarcerated. "I know the city's crazy about him, it's a good look for him so that made me feel good just seein' him goin' back getting' embraced by the city," Gucci said.
The Zone 6 rapper wasn't the only one with special guests. T.I. proved why he is widely regarded as the King of the South with an electric performance that included surprise cameos from Young Jeezy, Usher, Lil Wayne and Kelly Rowland.
The concertgoers weren't the only ones surprised when Kelly and Weezy performed their #1 hit "Motivation" together. "I didn't even expect to see her up there, I was just told I was coming out to 'Motivation.' I thought that was kinda weird," Tunechi told us. "Then when I seen her out there I understood everything."
"I supposed to put it in words, you saw the stage of Birthday Bash set on fire," T.I. said.

Fourth victim claims she suffered spinal injury during fight and plans to sue Drake.
By Gil KaufmanWe haven't heard very much from Chris Brown or Drake about what happened at a New York nightclub last week. But we have gotten a string of comments from at least three women who claim to have been injured by flying bottles in the melee.
The latest alleged victim spoke up on Tuesday, telling TMZ that she thinks Drake is the one to blame for the fight and that she plans to sue him over her injuries.
The woman, Vladimira Brace, has hired a lawyer, who is claiming that his client suffered a spinal injury when she was trampled in the chaos that erupted at the SoHo nightclub W.i.P. in the early morning hours of June 14. Attorney Allan Friedman has reportedly sent a letter to Drake's reps that alleges, "Your client instigated a brawl with Mr. Chris Brown ... [Drake's] actions were reckless and negligent in inflaming a violent mob ... My client personally observed several members of [Drake's] entourage throwing bottles of champagne with reckless and criminal disregard of the well-being of the innocent bystanders." Drake's spokespeople have denied his involvement in the fight, saying he exited the club before it began.
Quoting unnamed sources close to Drake, TMZ said the rapper's reps called Friedman's allegations "laughable," referring to the attorney's claims that the Toronto MC has a "well-documented history" of making "vulgar, abusive and profane remarks concerning women."
Drake's people noted that he was at the club with just a few security guards, unlike Brown and fellow rapper Meek Mill , who they claim had large entourages with them. And, in light of Brown's past, which includes a felony assault plea in connection with his 2009 attack on former girlfriend Rihanna, Drake's reps said the suggestion that their guy has an abuse history with women is hard to justify.
Brace is the fourth woman to come forward with claims that she was injured in the fight.
In addition to Brown, who posted a photo of his split chin, as well as the singer's bodyguard, who sustained a head injury, NBA star Tony Parker and Australian tourist Hollie C., have claimed injuries from the fight. Also, a 21-year-old model, Ingrid Gutierrez, claims to have suffered a blow to the head from a bottle and her lawyer said she may require plastic surgery. Another victim, Lucy Pavlovsky, said she suffered a gash to the arm that required 12 stitches and she too is said to be considering legal action against the responsible parties.
Police have not made any arrests over the incident, but they have subpoenaed the security tapes from the club and are reviewing them.

MTV News has your first peek at the late MCA's special commemorative July cover.

The Beastie Boys on the cover of The Source
Photo:Adam "MCA" Yauch was more than a musician, he was a culture icon. As a member of the Beastie Boys, Yauch helped blend punk, rock and hip-hop, fusing multiple genres and effectively changing the way people consume music. He died on May 4 after a lengthy battle with cancer, and on June 26, The Source magazine will honor him with a special commemorative cover, and MTV News has the first look.
Slaughterhouse appears on the July issue's main cover, while Yauch, Ad-Rock and Mike D. grace the special tribute cover. The black-and-white image, originally captured by photographer Sunny Bak in the 1980s, shows MCA on a skateboard, flanked on his left and right by his two bandmates. Inside, The Source interviewed Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons and famed A&R Dante Ross about the Beastie's musical legacy. " 'You Gotta Fight For Your Right to Party.' That record kept us alive," Simmons told the mag. "There were times when we thought Def Jam's doors were gonna close if not for the royalties that came from making that record."
Yauch formed the Beasties back in 1979 while he was still in high school. Though the group started as a punk band, their sound would evolve to adopt styles from hip-hop. They were signed to Def Jam records and in 1984 dropped their classic debut Licensed to Ill. Their contributions to music earned them an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this April.
On the flipside, Shady's lyrical assassins Slaughterhouse appear with an image inspired by Quentin Tarantino's 1992 crime thriller "Reservoir Dogs." Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Royce da 5'9" and Crooked I all appear wearing matching white shirts and black ties in a colorful, four-panel cover shot. In their cover story, Joey talks about his struggle with maintaining a sense of self in the big bad record business. "I almost despise a lot of aspects that come along with this industry. All the red tape. All the politics," he said. "Everything that is in between me and my direct talent and the fans. The industry will jade you. The a--hole I am today is the man that y'all created."

Josh Horowitz takes a stand against the teaser-trailer obsession.
By Josh Horowitz
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in "Breaking Dawn - Part 2"
Photo:This is the actual thing. It's not the preview of the thing. It's not the tease of the preview of the thing. It's not even the glimpse of the tease of the preview of the thing. It's the actual thing. I know — weird, right?
If you're an insatiable consumer of media like me (and if you're not, you're in the wrong place. Go commune with nature, you hippie; I'm juggling an iPad, a laptop and a Blackberry with one hand!), you're probably getting sick of the parsing out of "exclusives" during the last few months. I write the following acknowledging there's some hypocrisy here. I (and MTV News) am after all guilty of exactly what I'm claiming to be tired of: the teaser culture. But I'm taking a stand — I hereby go on record saying I am officially sick of 10-second previews of previews. As I write this, a bunch of new trailers and teases and commercials (figuring out the appropriate terminology is a headache in and of itself) just landed on the Interwebs.
Perhaps most notable in your world is the latest from "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" that came out Tuesday morning (June 19). Yes, Summit has released what it calls a "ten-second sneak peek of the teaser trailer" in anticipation of the actual teaser trailer for said movie, which presumably will give way to a non-teaser (er, regular?) trailer in a few months. Still with me? Now don't get me wrong: I love seeing early imagery from films I'm anxiously awaiting, but this is not the way to do it. At least not for me. Mind you, this snippet is still worlds better than the time-honored entertainment-show tradition of showing snippets of an exclusive trailer while a breathless correspondent narrates exactly what you're seeing. "There's Bella! And there's Edward!" Yeah, we see that. Thanks, Billy Bush.
Also out Tuesday morning are two examples of advertisements for upcoming flicks that definitely get things right, in my estimation. In the — let's call it "traditional" — category, there's the brand-new trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises," which frankly doesn't show a ton more than we've seen already. But it does package the material so artfully, with a keen sense of self-serious awesomeness ("This year a fire will rise" — yes!), that I doff my broken cowl in its favor.
And then there's my personal obsession, the latest work from Paul Thomas Anderson, "The Master." The second of what I'm guessing will be a series of shorts (calling these trailers doesn't do them justice) has been released, and each is slowly but surely introducing the upcoming flick's key figures. (Joaquin Phoenix is going to steal the film! Wait, no, I take it back — it's Philip Seymour Hoffman's movie!) Make no mistake, "The Master" is the "Dark Knight Rises" for the Sight & Sound-subscribing crowd this year.
Of course, this assortment of teases/ trailers/ shorts/ whatever doesn't even get into the most interesting area of film advertising going today — let's call it the viral short. "Prometheus" may have divided fanboys, but I think we all can agree that "Happy birthday David" was mesmerizing and creepy in all the right ways. So where is the viral video of the Cullens sitting at home watching a "True Blood" marathon? Oh, the possibilities ...

'I haven't read it, but yeah, anything racy, hot ... sure, let's get hot!' actress tells MTV News.
By Christina GaribaldiIt seems that every young starlet in Hollywood has been mentioned for the role of Anastasia Steele in the upcoming film adaptation of E L James' hit erotic trilogy, "Fifty Shades of Grey." Many fans have opinions as to who they feel will be a perfect fit to play the naive, love-stricken character, whose story began as "Twilight" fan fiction.
Fan favorite Kristen Stewart, who we know has read at least part of the book, is certainly topping the list for some fan sites, while Nina Dobrev may pass on the opportunity to play the role if her "Vampire Diaries" co-star Ian Somerhalder lands the part of Christian Grey.
Most recently, Selena Gomez decided to take herself out of the race, calling the role "a little too much" for her and saying that someone a bit older should take it on.
Could that older someone be Emma Roberts?
MTV News caught up with Roberts at Seventeen magazine's Pretty Amazing Contest event in New York, and it seems that the young star might be putting herself into the competition for the role. There's just one problem: She still has to read the book.
"Everyone says read 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' I don't really understand," Roberts said. "But everyone on the plane was reading it, and I was like, 'I should probably just get it.' "
Roberts may be perfect to take on the part of Ana, since, at 21, she is around the same age and already has the dark hair to match. But would she be willing to do those steamy love scenes?
"I haven't read it, I don't even understand, but yeah, it sounds awesome. Anything racy, hot," Roberts said. "Sure, let's get hot."

Переслать - 'The Amazing Spider-Man': The Early Reviews Are In!
U.K. critics are divided down the middle on Sony's 'Spider-Man' reboot, starring Andrew Garfield as the friendly neighborhood hero.

Andrew Garfield in "The Amazing Spider-Man"
Photo:Peter Parker swings back into U.S. theaters on July 3 with "The Amazing Spider-Man," this time played by British up-and-comer Andrew Garfield — and while Stateside critics have stayed hush-hush on their feelings about the "Amazing" reboot for now, our friends across the pond have been more outspoken with their reactions.
Several U.K. news outlets including The Guardian and Empire have published their reviews of director Marc Webb's "Spider-Man" reboot, following the film's London premiere on Monday. The consensus is not unlike Parker's own superhero career: rocky at points, healthy at times and flat-out "amazing" in other areas.
Keep reading for the good and the bad from the early "Amazing Spider-Man" reviews!
Webb & The Web-Spinner
"Webb successfully treads a fine line between keeping the hardcore superhero-movie fans happy and injecting a dose of meaningful affect. Parker is generally reckoned to be the most 'relatable' figure in the superhero canon, but the pastel-bright synthetics of the earlier movies did little to dispel the sense that the comic-book world could only construct its characters out of clunking great blocks of melodrama. In re-engineering Parker into the introspective, uncertain male more typical of his previous film, Webb is aided by a terrific performance from Andrew Garfield, who brings a genial unflappability that allows him to negotiate the often-ludicrous demands of the superhero plotline. At the same time, Webb also shows an unarguable facility for the more traditional action elements of the story, and the 3D certainly helps: he pulls off some properly nauseating shots as Parker dives off skyscrapers, rescues kids from falling, and the like." — Andrew Pulver, The GuardianToning It Down
"The shadow of 'Batman Begins' looms as 'Amazing' opens, the gold standard of origin-skewed reboots riskily invoked. Parker as a child plays games at home, stumbles on some destiny-sealing revelations, loses his parents on a stormy night... A dark roots movie steeped in tragedy? Some 'untold story,' that. Webb finds much surer footing as Parker hits high school, helped by crack casting. More confident than the last, this Parker is slick on a skateboard and not shy about standing up to Flash Thompson. The geek just got chic: who better to play him than the guy with the algorithms and rhythm from 'The Social Network'? A young buck made testy by grief, a rebel without a comb, Garfield nails all bases here, star DNA aglow. Stare-y eyes melting, he's winningly earnest; lithe of physique, he delivers in the dust-ups; blithely gatecrashing Gwen Stacy's bedroom, he gives good dreamboat." — Total FilmLove For The Ladies
"Then there's his needle-sharp young girlfriend, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), who wants to get under his skin even more than that radioactive arachnid did; find out what it is that makes his Spidey-senses tingle. Amid all of the soul-searching and lip-biting, it suddenly struck me: Webb has created the first superhero movie aimed primarily at women. Ever since 'Twilight' tipped off Hollywood to the spending power of girls and their mothers, a range of increasingly expensive films aimed at that audience has materialised. Perhaps it was only a matter of time before a superhero suited up with them in mind, although it remains to be seen how die-hard Spider-fans will react to their hero courting a different — some would say rival — demographic." — Robbie Collin, The TelegraphThe Negative Spin
"Director Marc Webb aims for a new realism, stripping away the brio of Sam Raimi's 2002 version with Tobey Maguire. He also dispenses with much of the character and sass that always made this character fun. It's not Garfield's fault: he is a convincingly troubled, inarticulate Peter Parker, a springily athletic Spider-Man, and has awesome hair. His greatest enemy is the script. That, and the rather wearisome 3D." — Nick Curtis, The London Evening StandardThe Final Word
"Graced with great performances from Garfield and Stone, 'The Amazing Spider-Man' is a rare comic-book flick that is better at examining relationships than superheroism. If it doesn't approach the current benchmark of 'Avengers Assemble,' it still delivers a different enough, enjoyable origin story to live comfortably alongside the Raimi era." --Ian Freer, EmpireWhat do you think of the early "Spider-Man" reviews? Usher, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown are also scheduled to perform at show, which airs July 1.
By Rob MarkmanGood things come to those who wait. When it was announced that both Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj would perform at the 2012 BET Awards on July 1, it was hard to imagine that BET executive Stephen Hill and his gang could pull even more star power for the Samuel L. Jackson-hosted show. But they continue to pile on: They already added Usher to the roster, and on Tuesday (June 19), Vibe.com announced that G.O.O.D. Music will make their first live television performance as a collective during the big show.
Kanye West's name wasn't dropped in the report, but it is hard to imagine that Yeezy would miss out on some major camera time. 'Ye actually leads all nominees with seven nods, including two in the Video of the Year category; he also has an upcoming label compilation, Cruel Summer, to promote.
"It's perfect. My grandma gonna be watchin', my mom, my family, the whole city," Big Sean told MTV News of his excitement for the show, for which he earned a few solo nominations. "It's just tight that I can represent those people, everybody who had that dream, everybody who used to ride to school [listening to] their idols — now I'm with them. It's just tight that I can show people that it's possible."
It's a safe bet that Sean, along with Kanye, Pusha T and G.O.O.D. affiliate 2 Chainz will all perform Cruel Summer's lead single, "Mercy." But if anyone knows how to seize the moment it is West, so don't be surprised if he opens up the stage to more of G.O.O.D.'s talented roster, which includes Kid Cudi, Common, Q-Tip and CyHi the Prynce.
"G.O.O.D. Music is the best team out there," CyHi told MTV News earlier this month. "Lyrically, bar-for-bar, song-for-song, concept-for-concept, we are the world, we can take it to a cipher, we can take it on the record. It don't matter 'cause we the best."
