  • Will Forte Mourns 'MacGruber,' Ponders Sequel Potential

Of all the unlikely heroes in Hollywood history, there is perhaps no one more unlikely than MacGruber. The former Green Beret, Navy SEAL and Army Ranger—not to mention fan-favorite "Saturday Night Live" character—crossed over from late-night sketch television to theaters nationwide back in 2010, but few people tuned in to check out the Will Forte-starring comedy.

But just because "MacGruber" blew up at the box office (not in the good way) that doesn't mean the movie itself was a failure. The people who did see the Forte flick remain huge fans to this day, yours truly included.

So when I caught up with the comedian at the "That's My Boy" junket in Los Angeles some weeks ago, I had to bring up my adoration for "MacGruber," and my hopes that we'd see a sequel someday in the future.

"I love hearing that," Forte said about my "MacGruber" fandom. "It was really hard when the movie didn't do well at the box office. It's hard not to take that as an indictment of the film. But we're so proud of the movie. We loved it so much. We would love to make a second one."

He certainly has my vote, though I'm not exactly in the position to green-light anything involving a serious production budget. And the actor isn't exactly optimistic about a studio giving the go-ahead, either. "I don't know what the realistic chances of making 'MacGruber 2' are," he confessed. "But we would love to do it if it's somehow a possibility."

  • Ray Winstone To Go Biblical As 'Noah' Villain

    Ray Winstone

Ray Winstone is going from playing one of Snow White's dwarves to portraying a villain of Biblical proportions in Darren Aronofsky's upcoming movie, "Noah."

The "Snow White and the Huntsman" star has been offered the role of the titular character's nemesis in the upcoming project, Deadline reports. Apparently Aronofsky wanted to cast an actor who is of a similar "grit and size" as Russell Crowe's Noah, and we would agree that Winstone fits the bill (even though he, you know, played a dwarf in his last film).

An offer has been put out to Winstone, and negotiations are currently underway to get him on board. If he signs on, he'll join Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth on the project.

Little is known about Winstone's villain other than the fact he will "go head to head against Crowe's Noah Character." Lerman and Booth are playing Noah's sons Ham and Shem, respectively, while Watson is playing a young woman named Ila who develops a relationship with Shem.

That means that the last major role that's left to be cast in "Noah" is that of the title character's wife. Deadline says that Jennifer Connelly is still being considered for the role, though she hasn't signed on yet. In case anyone had forgotten, Connelly and Crowe starred opposite one another in "A Beautiful Mind."

The official plot synopsis for "Noah" says it's "a close adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah's Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood." It's due in theaters on March 28, 2014.

Do you think Winstone is a good addition to the "Noah" cast? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!

  • Penelope Cruz Commits To 'The Counselor'

    Penelope Cruz

With so much of the Ridley Scott talk squarely focused on his current movie "Prometheus," it has been easy to forget that next up for the director is a remarkably star-studded film written by Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and first time screenwriter Cormac McCarthy called "The Counselor."

We reported back in April that Cruz was circling the project, which would have her co-star alongside her real-life husband, Javier Bardem. Now Deadline has an exclusive on the confirmation.

Current Hollywood fascination Michael Fassbender was the first actor to sign on to his "Prometheus" director's follow-up. He will play the title role of Counselor, a lawyer who attempts to cash-in on a quick, large-scale drug deal, but finds out the hard way (the very hard way) that "one and done" isn't something that happens in the world of narcotics.

Cruz will likely play Laura, the Counselor's fiancé, while Bardem is playing his partner-in-crime, Reiner, who owns cheetahs. (Yes, multiple cheetahs.)

Then there's also Cameron Diaz, in a very serious role, and Brad Pitt, showing up for what's nearly a cameo.

As much as we like "Prometheus," everything about "The Counselor" has us ready for the next Scott joint.

  • 'American Psycho' Author Wants To Adapt 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'

    American Psycho

The last rumor we heard on the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie front was that Angelina Jolie was considering directing the BDSM adaptation. That was quickly debunked, but it did open the door to the idea that E.L. James' hit novel could attract some A-list talent to its big screen debut.

Now Bret Easton Ellis, the author behind "American Psycho" and "Rules of Attraction," has admitted that he's serious about adapting her novels.

"I'm putting myself out there to write the movie adaptation of 'Fifty Shades of Grey,'" he tweeted over the weekend. "The team has been briefed and we will be approaching the studio this week about BEE adapting 'Fifty Shades of Grey' into a film."

He added, "Completely committed to adapting Fifty Shades of Grey. This is not a joke. Christian Grey and Ana: potentially great cinematic characters. ... Hope E.L. James doesn't think I'm being a prankster. I really want to adapt her novels for the screen. Christian Grey is a writer's dream..."

That's interesting news to say the least, but "Fifty Shades" requires some interesting decision-making. Ellis went on to tweet some of his dream casting for his film adaptation, but has since deleted it. Fortunately for all of us who love speculating on movies before they are cast, Digital Spy managed to record them before they were lost forever.

For Christian Grey, Ellis felt that Alexander Skarsgard ("perfect casting"), Ryan Gosling ("in a perfect world"), Alex Pettyfer ("too young?") or Aaron Johnson would work. For Ana, Ellis thought that Scarlett Johansson and Kristen Stewart would be good "more conventional" choices, though he also is partial to "Girls" stars Allison Williams and Lena Dunham.

Ellis also picked his dream director for the flick: David Cronenberg. "I think David Cronenberg is a great idea for directing 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and we worked together on American Psycho in its initial phase," Ellis tweeted.

Who would you like to see star in and direct "Fifty Shades of Grey"? Do you think Ellis would be a good fit for the project? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!

  • Report: Philip Seymour Hoffman Offered Plutarch Heavensbee In 'Catching Fire'

    Philip Seymour Hoffman

    FROM MTV NEWS

If you're a fan of "The Hunger Games," you've probably been waiting not-so patiently for any sign of Finnick Odair casting. But with news potentially breaking on the casting front today, you probably weren't expecting a Deadline report claiming that an offer is out for Plutarch Heavensbee.

That's right. The Head Gamemaker for the 75th annual Hunger Games could be played by none other than Academy Award-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman. If he signs on to join the sequel and presumably the third and fourth movies, it would be a major pull for the series, which lacks some of the Academy prestige of other film series.

Head over to MTV News to read the full report on the purported offer to Hoffman.

How would you feel about Philip Seymour Hoffman playing Plutarch Heavensbee? Let us know what you think in the comments below and on Twitter!

  • Disney Announces 'Frozen,' A New Animated Musical

    Frozen

In the past few years, Disney has started moving back toward the old model of animated princesses. Movies like "Enchanted," "The Princess and the Frog," and "Tangled" proved that audiences are happy to go back to "once upon a time."

For its newest animated effort, Disney is once again telling a fairy tale with original songs from some of Broadway's hottest talents.

"Frozen," set for a big screen debut in November of next year, will star Kristen Bell as Anna, "a young dreamer about to take the adventure of a lifetime." The computer-animated film takes its name from the setting, which will be a fantasy kingdom, stuck in a never-ending winter.

To break the spell, Anna must find the Snow Queen, who will be voiced by Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel, who previously starred in "Enchanted" for Disney.

Married couple Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez will write the original songs for "Frozen." Lopez co-wrote the current hottest ticket on Broadway, "The Book of Mormon" with "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Anderson-Lopez previously worked with Disney on the latest Winnie the Pooh film.

The role of Anna's partner for her journey, Kristoff, a "daring mountain man," has yet to be cast.

Honestly, word of Disney once again venturing into animated musical comes as welcome news. With Pixar dominating the world of straight computer-animated movies, Disney needs to find its own niche in the market, instead of trying to compete…

…unless it's with "Wreck-It Ralph," which looks like it's going to rule.

Are you looking forward to Disney's "Frozen"? Let us know what you think in the comments below and on Twitter!

  • Robert Downey, Jr. Recounts Globe-Trotting For 'Sherlock Holmes' In Exclusive Clip

When you think of Sherlock Holmes, you probably imagine him in his study at 221B Baker Street in Londontown, but that's the old Holmes. Robert Downey, Jr.'s take on the famous detective, the news Holmes, is a world-traveling, smart ass with a quick whit and a mean right hook.

In this exclusive featurette from the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of Downey's second film as Holmes, "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," the actor chronicles just where the story takes his character this time around.

"The story starts in London. It goes basically though the countryside very fast and to the coast, hops across the channel, winds us down to Paris, then from Paris to Germany, and Germany to Switzerland," Downey says in his typical matter-of-fact way.

"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" is out on DVD and Blu-ray today!

  • Logan Marshall-Green: Forever Trey From 'The O.C.'

    Logan Marshall-Green

It's no secret that we here at MTV Movies Blog love "Prometheus." We've gushed about it since it hits theaters last week. We love the performances in it; the actors are uniformly great. There's only one problem.

Every time we see Logan Marshall-Green, this is all we can think of:

Marshall-Green is great in "Prometheus," but we simply cannot get the image of Marissa Cooper shooting Ryan Atwood's brother, Trey, in the back right before Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" kicks in.

The image sparked a meme and an SNL Digital Short and is therefore burned in our pop culture memory.

But it's not Marshall-Green's fault though. We're still having a hard time imagining Olivia Wilde as anyone else but Marissa's girlfriend. That's the power of "The O.C."
