Video premieres Tuesday, June 19, on MTV.

Katy Perry in her video for "Wide Awake"
Photo: CapitolAttention, Katy Cats! Are you dying to see Katy Perry's new video for her latest hit single, "Wide Awake"? We have some very good news for you in the form of a special sneak peek. Perry has just dropped a trailer for the clip, and we are happy to report that it is 82 seconds of expert teasery.
The 1 minute, 22 second trailer opens in a "Secret Garden"-type setting, with a shot of the back of a young, dark-haired girl surrounded by foliage. She's standing looking at an old table, which is covered by overgrown plants and vines. Suddenly, the debris is whisked away to reveal a dusty old book. The young girl begins turning the pages of the book, which reveal different chapters, with each one highlighted by a photo from a previous Perry video. Stills from "Teenage Dream," "Firework," "E.T.," "Last Friday Night" and "The One That Got Away" all make for separate chapters in the book.
When the girl turns the page to reveal "The Final Chapter," we start to see pictures from "Wide Awake" that seem to indicate we'll be whisked into a fairy tale of some sort that naturally has Perry playing our heroine and/or possible princess. The other characters and plot points involved in the tale involve a poisoned strawberry, a curious cat, Prince Charming and a young girl — the very one we've been watching turning the pages of the book.
The teaser ends with the young girl waving at herself in the book, after which she closes it to reveal the tome's title: "Wide Awake: The Final Chapter From Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection," and the premiere date of the video, June 19, which we're very happy to unveil on MTV.

Critics are mostly positive about the new release, with one calling it, 'at its best, a truly next-level soul album.'
By Kara Warner
Usher's <i>Looking 4 Myself</i> cover art
Photo: RCAGiven the incredibly fast-paced, blink-and-you-miss-it, flash-in-the-pan, hit-singles-or-bust state of the music industry these days, career longevity is almost as difficult for an artist to achieve as fame and recognition itself. R&B superstar Usher is clearly an exception, as Tuesday (June 12) marks the release of the seventh studio album in his 18-year career. Usher has said that Looking 4 Myself represents an "evolution" for him in several ways, and judging from the positive reviews, critics seem to agree. Without further ado, let's take a tour through the Looking 4 Myself reviews.
The Story of "Myself"
"To the list of people who've had mind-altering experiences at Coachella, you can add Usher. In April he was a surprise guest at the music festival, and he says his seventh album, Looking 4 Myself, was inspired by the eclectic acts he saw there, including Euro-disco champs Swedish House Mafia (who produced two songs for L4M) and Aussie synth-rockers Empire of the Sun (who guest on the title track). Even Usher's new look off stage — the Buddy Holly glasses, the facial scruff — suggests that he's warming to indie music. Did he go into Coachella as a Top 40 guy and come out a hipster? Well, he's not exactly taking a stand against party-rock anthems here. Looking 4 Myself still sounds like the Usher you know; it's just a little more interesting than his usual onslaught of skull-pounding beats and silk-sheets ballads." — Melissa Maerz, Entertainment WeeklyThe EDM Influence
"In the interviews surrounding the release of Usher's seventh album, Looking 4 Myself, the singer discussed the wide variety of music that influenced the set, ranging from electronic dance music to folk-rockers Mumford & Sons. And while there's a prominent EDM sound on many of the tracks (folk, not so much), the sound has fused seamlessly with R&B, making Looking 4 Myself, at its best, a truly next-level soul album. One that has the warm, organic feel of R&B and deep pop hooks, but also the pulsating low-end and shimmering keyboard flourishes of EDM." — Jem Aswad, Billboard.comSonorous Surprises
"A number of surprises lurk within, though. 'Twisted' is the most disruptive track on the album, and proves that production duo the Neptunes are still able to time-travel back from the future to offer another dose of innovation. The rhythm is ridiculous, the kind that the Virginia team of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo are experts at creating. Jim Jonsin's catchy rhythm on 'Lemme See' finds its groove when Rick Ross parks his Lamborghini on the track's lawn for a cameo. (Pharrell, by contrast, raps of rolling on another kind of vehicle, '20 of us on Vespas and mopeds,' cruising the city and offering a girl a gift of white lipstick.) The biggest outlier on Looking 4 Myself is Usher's collaboration with Australian progressive electronic group Empire of the Sun on the title track. The song, which features Empire lead singer Luke Steele, is a new wave ditty with a beat that wouldn't sound out of place on a Hall & Oates or later-period Steely Dan record." — Randall Roberts, Los Angeles TimesThe Final Word
"Looking 4 Myself covers a lot of ground, from the modernized, shouting soul of 'Twisted' to the jaunty new wave of the surprising title track, a catchy collaboration with Luke Steele of the Of Montreal-esque synth-pop band Empire of the Sun. Not all of it works, but none of it is unpleasant, either, something that couldn't be said of the previous releases from the single-and-on-the-prowl phase of Usher's career. Unlike Raymond or Versus, with their dutiful adherence to Top 40 templates, a sense of freedom and exploration carries through Looking 4 Myself that makes it feel unique from any other Usher album. Although few of these songs rank among his best, it's a pleasure to hear a great performer branch out, following whims and taking risks as he tests new ways to work his voice." — Evan Rytlewski, The A.V. Club

Bigger Than the Sound explores the general all-over-the-placeness of Jepsen's breakout hit.
By James Montgomery
Carly Rae Jepsen
Photo: WireImageOver the past one-hundred days, I have most definitely been alive, and as such have certainly bought clothes, spent time in an Applebee's, listened to the radio, been on the Internet, had conversations with actual human beings and watched programming on the CW ("Hart of Dixie," I wish I knew how to quit you). Which is why it is somewhat troubling that, until this week, I hadn't heard Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe."
After all, during that time, it has become the most ubiquitous song in the universe (or at least the most ubiquitous one not named "Somebody That I Used to Know"), rising to the top of the Billboard pop chart — she's the first female artist to claim the top spot with a debut single since Adele — earning covers by everyone from Justin Bieber and Katy Perry to Fun. and the Harvard University baseball team, and racking up more than 104 million views on YouTube (where it's currently the site's most-viewed music video).
None of this is exactly surprising. After all, "Call Me Maybe" is probably the most perfect pop song of 2012, sterling-silver shiny and full of sappy, sweet sentiments, it is an alarmingly effective melding of dance pomp and Disney circumstance ... with a chorus to match. And you get the feeling that, with summer nearly upon us, its reign is only beginning, and soon it will overtake "Somebody" as the song your aunt writes about on Facebook. And yet, I find myself conflicted by all of this.
Its rise to ubiquity has left me wondering if I am truly capable of doing this job anymore. This has nothing to do with the song itself, but everything to do with its very existence ... mostly in that I was completely unaware it existed in the first place. In hindsight, this seems almost implausible — after all, it is probably playing somewhere in your general vicinity at this very second (maybe you are listening to it right now) — and, really, how am I supposed to consider myself a music journalist if hadn't heard it once over the past three months? Was I that out of touch? Do I hang out with the wrong people? Had I really spent that much time interviewing Japandroids? These are the things that keep me awake at night.
I'll admit, I was panicked. I began updating my resume. But then, roughly around the 15th time I listened to "Call Me Maybe" on Tuesday (my officemate loves me), I realized something important: I actually had heard the song — many, many times, in fact. But only in bits and pieces; the plucky intro in a pizzeria, those saccharine string stabs slithering from the window of a passing car, that "I missed you so, so bad" outro ... I had never actually put them all together and realized they were part of the same song. And then it dawned on me that perhaps that was the reason for its success: it is less of a song as it is a collection of fascinating parts, each as easily digestible and appealing as the last, each meant to appeal to someone somewhere. In fact, you could probably re-arrange them in any order and the end result would be the same: "Hey, I like this!"
And sure, you could argue that all solid pop tunes are basically created in the same mold, but in some way, "Call Me Maybe" is different. It seems custom-built for the fickle and fleeting attention spans of the public: You can hear any three seconds of it anywhere — between stations on the radio, over the end credits of a TV show, at H&M — and instantly be drawn in. Compare its structure to other recent ubiquitous hits — like Fun.'s "We Are Young," any of Adele's melodramatic missives, and, of course, "Somebody That I Used to Know" — and you'll notice that they all seem practically leaden by comparison. They are traditional songs. "Maybe" is a glorious assortment of glimmering bits, expertly crafted to latch on to your subconscious and never let go. It is, in parts, a dance tune, a feathery pop ballad, a tween-aged heartbreaker, a light-FM sorta-rocker, a Disney Radio staple ... oh, and Jepsen's Canadian to boot. No pop movement from the past few years goes untouched. There's truly something for everyone.
So, in case you're wondering, I'm not worried anymore. I am not clueless or out of step ... I simply fell victim to the rather devious machinations of "Call Me Maybe." It is the song you can't un-hear, even if you've just heard a few fleeting seconds of it. And while it may not be the smartest pop song of all time, I'm here to tell you it just might be the most brilliant. Or at least the most brilliantly constructed. Well played, Jepsen ... well played.

Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty ImagesSometimes just being a beautiful actress in Hollywood isn't enough; what you need to do in order to really turn heads in this business is take a razor to your tousled tresses. Case in point, Charlize Theron's radically different new 'do for her upcoming role in "Mad Max: Fury Road" and Anne Hathaway's super-shorn pixie look for her turn in the star-studded film adaptation of
New York magazine's Vulture blog recently caught up with Hathaway, who revealed that she is very much enjoying the close-cropped hairdo.
"I did it for a film, so it really wasn't about me and my security," she said. "I'm just so pleased with how I look, so I now quite like having short hair."
The short hair is a requisite of sorts for Hathaway's role in the film, in which she plays Fantine, an ill-fated prostitute who chops off her hair to buy food for her child, Cosette.
The "Dark Knight Rises" actress also spoke about the pressure of having to sing one of the play's most iconic numbers, "I Dreamed a Dream," live on set during filming.
"Well, that's actually the thing we talked about when I first came in to film," Hathaway said. "I apparently looked like I was ready to face the guillotines. They just kept telling me and the cast to ignore the iconic nature of 'Les Miz' and of the song."
Hathaway went on to say that she had to attempt to sing it as if it had never been sung or heard before, despite the fact that she basically grew up hearing the song.
"My mom was in the show when I was a kid. She actually covered Fantine and went on the national tour, so it was a really big part of my childhood."

Wayne Coyne talks to MTV News about recording 'Thunder Up!' for his hometown team as they prepare to take on Heat.
By James Montgomery
James Montgomery and Wayne Coyne
Photo: MTV NewsLast month, before his epic war of words with Erykah Badu and after his hometown Oklahoma City Thunder fell behind 2-0 in their Western Conference Finals matchup with the seemingly unstoppable San Antonio Spurs, Flaming Lips' mastermind Wayne Coyne was still upbeat. And not about Badu.
No, despite the (then) overwhelming odds against them, Coyne was confident that the Thunder would not only rally to defeat the Spurs, but would go on to win the NBA championship. In fact, "confident" was probably an understatement.
"Of course, what do you mean 'Can they win?' " he responded to MTV News when we asked about the Thunder's chances of taking home the NBA crown. "They will win."
And we all know how things turned out. The Thunder staged a Lazarus-like comeback against the Spurs — who had been riding a 20-game winning streak — and won the series in six games. Now, it's on to the NBA Finals, where they'll face off against the playoff-tested Miami Heat and their trio of stars: LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Game one of the Finals tips off Tuesday night (June 12) in Oklahoma City.
Can the Thunder's epic run culminate in the NBA championship? Well, we know what Coyne thinks ... and he's not alone.
He and the Lips recently re-recorded one of their signature songs — "Race for the Prize," off 1999's The Soft Bulletin — as an anthem for the team, a rousing version dubbed "Thunder Up! Racing for the Prize," with the same crashing drums and keening synths of the original, but sees Coyne changing the lyrics to reflect his admiration for the squad. "Theirs is to win/ We win with them/ They'll keep fighting for Oklahoma!" he sings, while the shouted refrain of "Thunder Up!" is repeated in the background. The whole thing ends, appropriately enough, with a booming thunderclap of electronic noise.
It's not known whether "Thunder Up!" will be played in Oklahoma City's Chesapeake Arena during game one of the Finals, but Lips multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd has certainly been doing his part to make it happen: He's tweeted the track to Thunder guard Russell Westbrook, encouraging him to share it with all his "OKC Thunder bros."
Like most of the city, Drozd's wrapped up in the thrill of the NBA Finals, noting, "There's already extra traffic and excitement in the air at OKC airport."

Photo: John Shearer/ Getty ImagesAfter nearly two years of separation, David Arquette and Courteney Cox are headed toward divorce. TMZ reports that Arquette officially filed divorce papers last week and cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split.
According to the documents obtained by the website, Arquette is requesting joint legal and physical custody of their daughter Coco. He did not ask for spousal or child support and is apparently representing himself, as he did not list a lawyer. Also, it appears that Arquette signed the divorce documents on March 23 and only just decided to file them.
Aside from his brief bit of oversharing about their relationship on Howard Stern's radio show, Arquette and Cox have kept a relatively low profile since the news broke about their separation back in the fall of 2010. The former "Friends" star was quick to defend the behavior of her husband of 11 years during an interview with Harper's Bazaar last March.
"If you didn't hear the Howard Stern interviews and you just read quotes, I'm sure it seemed out of context, crazy," she said. "I'm not saying there wasn't some crazy behavior, but if you know who David is, you know what his intentions are, how honest he is, and how big his heart is. You can't really get mad at David because he's not a malicious person. He was dealing with things the best way he could. He's not out to harm. But I'm his biggest protector. I can't help it."
Cox and Arquette met on the set of 1995's horror blockbuster "Scream" and recently reprised their roles in "Scream 4," in which their married characters were also dealing with relationship problems.

Cody Simpson
Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty ImagesBefore Cody Simpson drops his full-length Paradise album in October, he's giving fans a bit of a preview with a four-track EP released on Tuesday (June 12). And from the looks of Preview to Paradise, there's a mix of everything, all with that Simpson touch.
"I wanted to show each aspect of the album and they all fit together well, while being diverse at the same time," the Aussie told MTV News on Tuesday. "With my single 'Wish You Were Here,' it showed the dance/pop side of my album. [With] 'Gentleman,' I wanted to showcase the singer/songwriter aspect of what I do and I thought they all went well together as well.
"My favorite song? I don't know! It's like having four little kids," he added. "You can't really pick a favorite, but I do like 'Wish You Were Here' because it's a great dance song and will be my single for the summer."
"Wish You Were Here" certainly proclaims his love for pop music, and having hit the studio with two of the biggest producers/writers working in the game only adds to the song's pure pop feel, highlighted by the song's pulsing beat and Simpson's swoon-worthy admissions like "All I want/ Is to be home with you."
"It's a really great feeling when you put a song out there that you feel could compete with artists like the biggest artists out there right now. It's amazing," he said. "I recorded this song with amazing producers Dr. Luke ... and I wrote it with Taio Cruz and they both had a lot of experience and a lot of big summer hits. It's cool to be able to work with people that have had experience with that [and] make it as best as it can be while making it my own."
However, while "Wish" is a dance-influenced track, he notes that his musical signature isn't in the world of churning out club-bangers. "Being a pop artist you also have to have your own little twist here and there," he said. "I feel like when you get to know an artist and you listen to all their music you kind of start to see things that they do in songs that make it [theirs]. I play a lot of guitar. 'Wish You Were Here' doesn't have too much guitar in it, but I feel like that's uniquely me."
In addition to dropping Preview to Paradise, the singer is wrapping up his own spate of shows this week. Then he will hit the road with Big Time Rush beginning in July. The tour will kick off on July 5 in Columbus, Ohio, before wrapping up in September, just in time for him to catch his breath before his album drops on October 2.

"When I bust out with that Styles P record, ya'll not gonna call me fake," Banks tells MTV News days before she 'quits rapping.'
By Nadeska AlexisIs Azealia Banks really saying goodbye to her rap career? Earlier this week, the Harlem native deleted her Twitter account and announced that she will now focus on being a 'vocalist' instead of a rapper. But just last week she told MTV News that her upcoming Fantasea mixtape would be heavy on hip-hop, with a major feature from Styles P.
Banks announced her resignation from rap via a new Tumblr account, writing, "No longer wishing to be a rapper. i never was. ... and as soon as i started paying attention to bullsh-- urban media, i started getting myself in trouble. From now on i'm a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the 'rap game' ... or whatever the f--- that means."
Oddly enough, the new proclamation comes just days after Banks revealed to MTV News that Fantasea, slated for a July debut, will include a feature from Styles P that she was thrilled to get. "It's gonna be hip-hop, there's a lot of hip-hop on it," Banks said of the mixtape. "I have a track with Styles P on there, which I'm really excited about because Styles killed it, killed it, killed it."
"It's so New York and it's so raw and it's so just ... everything that needs to be said," she added, going on to address the criticism she's received from the hip-hop community so far. "I'm that rap girl who's out here and doesn't have another rapper behind her, but she's got all this mouth and she's all over the place. So [this collaboration] was cool for me [because I'm like] 'What ya'll gonna say now, when I bust out with that Styles P record?' Ya'll not gon' call me fake and make fun of me for having one song. Yeah, I make lil dance music and ya'll got jokes, whatever — watch when I come out with the Styles P record."
Banks hasn't been too warmly received by all urban media, but some of that has to do with her reputation for taking open shots at artists like Grand Hustle's Iggy Azalea — a rap girl who does have another rapper behind her — and by association, veteran T.I.
So despite Banks' claim that she will quit rapping, there will still be hip-hop on Fantasea, and she even admitted that she's hoping for more rap features outside of Styles P. "Schedules are weird and with as much as I have going on, it's hard, but I like to really collaborate," she said. "When I'm collaborating with someone I want us to be in the same room and feed off each other. I don't wanna just send you the track."
One thing we do know is when it comes to Banks' outspoken nature, nothing much is going to change. "Rap dudes, keep talking sh-- and I'ma keep popping sh--," she said. "I'm just reactive and I say what I have to say and I keep it moving. ... It's not going to change."

Переслать - 'Rock Of Ages' Director Gives Diego Boneta His Big Break
And he's not the first: Zac Efron and Channing Tatum also got their starts with Adam Shankman.
By Amy WilkinsonProducer/director/choreographer Adam Shankman is clearly a man of many talents, but perhaps the "Rock of Ages" helmer should consider adding "talent scout" to his résumé.
When we caught up with Shankman to chat about his movie based on the hit Broadway musical, we were curious as to whether he would seek a finder's fee if star Diego Boneta's career takes off following the film's June 15 release.
"I feel like he's one in a long line of finder's fees for me," Shankman said with a grin. "I feel like, you know, I put Zac Efron in his first two movies. Channing [Tatum] was kind of born out of 'Step Up.' You know, there's been some of these actors, I feel like I've been a part of their early development. Diego is just another one for me. They're all incredibly special. They all feel like my children, my very successful, very beautiful children, and I adore him."
Another thing Shankman would like a "finder's fee" for? Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's engagement!
Newcomer Boneta ("90210," "Pretty Little Liars") stars as busboy/ aspiring musician Drew Boley, who's given the incredible opportunity to open for iconic rock legend Stacee Jaxx (played by Tom Cruise). When we talked with Shankman earlier this year for our Summer Movie Preview Week, he explained the up-and-coming actor's appeal.
"His audition just sort of stopped me in my tracks," he recalled. "I saw it on my casting website. I've seen hundreds and hundreds of guys on there, and his stopped me because there was no acting — he just was that guy. And he also sang so great. In the best casting moments, you're looking at somebody and saying, 'How much do I have to do with this person to get them there?' I just looked at him and he just dropped into it very easily and naturally. And then, of course, there's that face."
"Rock of Ages," which also stars Julianne Hough, Russell Brand and Malin Akerman, hits theaters Friday.

'Spring Breakers' star, who appears in Funny or Die parody, tells MTV News 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is 'intriguing.'
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Cory MidgardenIn May, Selena Gomez poked fun at the blush-inducing literary phenomenon that is "Fifty Shades of Grey." Appearing in a Funny or Die sketch titled "Fifty Shades of Blue," Gomez, playing a naive, lusty Ana Steele type, longed for her handyman, played by Nick Kroll, who comes across in the skit as anything but the suave, sexy Christian Grey from the trilogy.
However, before Gomez hit the set for the short, she had to do some research and read E L James' book. Well, what she read truly did leave her cheeks rosy. "I only read the beginning of it, because when they told me about the skit, I didn't know what it was about," she told MTV News. "So I started to read it, and I was like, 'Oh, this is spicy.' So I thought it was good, it was intriguing. Obviously, it's working, so the skit was really funny."
While it seems that every actress in Hollywood has some form of "Fifty Shades" fever, given that the book will soon be made into a movie, did starring in "Fifty Shades of Blue" make Gomez want to tackle the starring role in the real thing? "I don't think so. I know I'm taking risks, but I don't think I could do that!" she said. "That would be a little too much for me. I think someone older should do that part."
"Fifty Shades" might be a bit too mature for Gomez, but her next slate of projects will show that the 19-year-old is growing up, even if at a slower pace. In addition to her bikini-clad role in the "raw" "Spring Breakers," Gomez will soon begin work on her next album.
"I am missing music, so we're going to start on the fourth record at the end of this year," she explained about heading back into the studio after working on several film projects. "Very different! I want to go for producers that probably wouldn't want me to do their songs. I just want to knock on their door. I also want to work with Fun. I want to work with just different styles of music.
"I also want to work with Taylor [Swift] too. So I just want to do different things for this album," she added. "By the time it comes out, I'll almost be 21, so I want to be able to — wow, that sounds really scary! — I want it to be older."

"James Deen and Lindsay Lohan will star in THE CANYONS," Ellis tweeted about the actors. Deen is best known for his work in adult films. The film will be directed by Paul Schrader. "And I am beyond thrilled that James Deen and Lindsay Lohan will be playing the parts of Christian and Tara in THE CANYONS by BEE."
Filming for "The Canyons" will begin next month. Currently Lohan is shooting the Lifetime Elizabeth Taylor biopic, "Liz & Dick," and is also embroiled in a new spat of troubles tied to an L.A.-area car accident. However, Ellis remained optimistic about the casting when he added, "Could not have dreamed of a better cast. Lindsay nailed it."
A rep for the actress could not confirm that Lohan would be appearing the flick when MTV News reached out for comment.
According to a poster for the film, the tagline is "It's not 'The Hills,' " a reference to the popular MTV reality show that followed the glamorized lives of Lauren Conrad and her pals. This is expected to be a grittier take on young people and their struggles in Hollywood.
Indiewire reports that Deen's Christian is a "trust fund kid, power player and major manipulator, who is a film producer that enjoys filming his own three-way sex sessions." Meanwhile, Lohan's ex-model character, Tara, is his girlfriend who "has sold her pride for the material comforts Christian can provide." Three other roles remain uncast: bartender and wannabe actor Ryan, Ryan's employee and fellow actor Gina, and former actress/yoga instructor Lindsay, who is carrying on an affair with Christian.
"The Canyons" recently got funded through a Kickstarter initiative. The film will get a video-on-demand release sometime in the future.

Co-writer Damon Lindelof tells MTV News if there were a follow-up, 'it wouldn't be 'Alien.' '
By Kevin P. Sullivan
Charlize Theron and Idris Elba in "Prometheus"
Photo: 20th Century FoxIn the wake of the mind explosion that was Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," both fans and haters have been curiously posturing about what it could all mean and whether a sequel is likely or even possible.
Though after a solid opening weekend, the fate of a "Prometheus" sequel may now lie in the hands of a Fox executive instead of the creative talent, we spoke with co-writer Damon Lindelof about whether the events and ideas in "Prometheus" leave an opening for a follow-up.
Spoilers ahead.
Much of the philosophy in "Prometheus" revolves around the unsatisfying nature of ultimate answers, and the film purposely avoids resolving some of the story's lingering questions. So could a sequel exist without contradicting the ideas of the original? Lindelof told us that "Prometheus" was always intended to be a stand-alone film, but there is the possibility for more story.
"The conversations that we had about the story of 'Prometheus' and how it would end were always predicated on the idea that there would not be a sequel, that a sequel was not a foregone conclusion, and that the movie itself had to have a feeling of being complete," Lindelof said. "That being said, we also wanted the audience to feel that, like, if there were a sequel to 'Prometheus,' it wouldn't be 'Alien.' "
That idea of a separate narrative arc from "Alien" led to the loose end of Shaw flying off to find the Engineers, so that if a sequel were to happen, it would take the audience to unfamiliar territory.
"Something needed to happened at the end of this movie that clearly steered and announced that the direction of the trajectory of this story moving forward was not going to head toward LV-426 and a crashed, derelict ship with a Space Jockey with an exploded chest surrounded by eggs, that Shaw and David were headed in a different direction that was probably not going to result in that," Lindelof said. "Those two things were sort of simultaneous to each other, so you're both saying, 'We want this movie to stand on its own, but we also acknowledge that it needs to end in a way that is very clear that if the story were to progress (if there were a sequel) ' We tried to thread the needle between the two ideas."
If the concept of no sequel to "Prometheus" upsets you because of the remaining mysteries, Lindelof suggests you look toward Scott for your answers, because he has them.
"Then, of course, for all this talk of unanswered questions or the characters theorizing but not really getting their theories proved or, more importantly, for getting their makers to answer for the condition of the movie, Ridley and I and Jon [Spaihts] all discussed what we felt those answers were and came to agreement on them, so despite whatever slings and arrows come our way, this is not a case of, 'Well, we didn't know, so we didn't bother trying,'" Lindelof said. "We definitely knew, and Ridley decided that the more interesting movie was one where we didn't explicitly spell that stuff out."
So because Scott designed the movie to be the way that it is, those questions should drive you want more, just like Shaw at the end of the film, but Lindelof promised that the answers you might be searching for could be hidden inside "Prometheus."
"I really believe and this is not shamed hucksterism that upon multiple viewings of the movie or just entering into conversation with people who have seen it, there are a lot more answers there than people think there are and room for theories, but the movie needed to end in a way that is Shaw still searching," he said. "She is not satisfied with the answers that she got. I think that's very indicative, hopefully, if Shaw is supposed to be the audience proxy, they're supposed to be feeling the same way that she is at the end of the movie."
For all the "Lost" fans out there, this might all sound like a familiar song and dance, especially coming from Lindelof, and the writer knew he was in for that comparison when he took on Scott's orders.
"To be completely candid, I knew that I'd eat some s--- for that for the rest of my career, if there is no sequel to 'Prometheus,' but did it anyway, and had Ridley asked me to do it the other way, I would have done that too," Lindelof said. "This movie is about realizing his vision. He's only directed three science-fiction films, and now 'Prometheus' is one of them, and if he told me to jump off a bridge, I would."

'It was pretty surreal jamming out with Tom singing 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn,' ' Diego Boneta tells MTV News of their joint guitar lessons.
By Amy Wilkinson
Tom Cruise in "Rock of Ages"
Photo: Warner Bros. PicturesFor his breakout role in the movie adaptation of the Broadway hit "Rock of Ages," Diego Boneta could not have asked for a bigger — or better — co-star than Hollywood vet Tom Cruise.
"He's the hardest-working guy we've ever met in our lives," Boneta said, speaking for himself and co-star Julianne Hough. "He's so humble. I think that combination is something that really stuck with me. This is my first movie; this is Tom's, like, 50th movie. That is a rare and very special combination."
In the film, Boneta plays aspiring musician Drew Boley, a barback at the Sunset Strip's Bourbon Room, where Cruise's rock god Stacee Jaxx is set to perform his band's final show before embarking on a solo career. The role took months of preparation for the 21-year-old and his seasoned co-star, and despite their varied experience in the industry, both had to start at the beginning when it came to mastering the fundamentals of rock and roll.
"Tom and I were taking guitar classes together because we both had to learn how to play guitar, and it was pretty surreal jamming out with Tom singing 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn,' " Boneta recalled. "He was playing the solo, and I was playing all the chords and stuff."
Though this is Boneta's first film role, he may be familiar to TV audiences from appearances on teen favorites "90210" and "Pretty Little Liars." Next up, the actor will star in the new MTV series "Underemployed."
"Rock of Ages," which also stars Russell Brand, Malin Akerman and Catherine Zeta-Jones, hits theaters June 15.

'We might have to call it something different now 'cause that's just so attached to 'The Motto,' ' Drake tells MTV News of Rick Ross collabo.
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway CallowayLord knows when fans will get that tag-team mixtape from Drake and Rick Ross, but when it does come, the project — which was once dubbed Y.O.L.O. — might get a name change.
"That title has become so ... it's like an epidemic. So I hope by the time we finish it, it would still hold weight and substance," Drake told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway of the mixtape title, which stands for "You Only Live Once." "We might have to call it something different now 'cause that's just so attached to 'The Motto.' "
What was originally slated as an iTunes bonus song on Drizzy's Take Care ended up one of the biggest singles from his sophomore project. "The Motto," which also features Lil Wayne, peaked at #1 on Billboard's Rap Songs chart, and thanks to its hook, popularized the phrase "Y.O.L.O." or "You Only Live Once." "Now she wants a photo/ You already know, though/ You only live once/ That's the motto, n---a, Y.O.L.O.," Drake spits on the track's hook.
Both Drizzy and Rozay have confirmed they've already recorded a number of tracks for the tape, but the project is not complete. Ross believes the tape would be so big that it could actually be a retail release rather than a free download online.
"It's official, the music is most definitely official," Ross told "RapFix Live" during an appearance back in November. "But, me being a boss, I'm trying to find a way that we could put that on the shelves for the world, baby. But it's most definitely official."

Photo: Slaven Vlasic/ Getty ImagesThings are about to get really serious on this week's "RapFix Live," because we have the Original Gangsta and the Certified Gangsta — Ice-T and Jim Jones — sitting down with host Sway Calloway at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday.
Since his 1987 debut album, Rhyme Pays, Ice-T has stood as a culture icon, dropping classic records and later breaking down barriers in film, becoming one of rap's earliest Hollywood draws. In 1991, he landed his breakout role as Scotty Appleton in "New Jack City" and has since gone on to star in more than two-dozen roles. Other than his raps, Ice-T is most known for his role as Detective Odafin Tutuola on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and also stars in his own reality show, "Ice Loves Coco" on E!
On Friday, Ice will release "Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap," a documentary he directed, which will explore how hip-hop went from underground music in the inner cities of America to the dominant music genre it is today. The film stars a who's who of rap greats like Eminem, Dr. Dre, Nas and Kanye West. On Wednesday, Ice will break it all down.
Jim Jones has also found an interest in film. Jones co-stars in VH1's reality series "Love & Hip Hop," and for his latest mixtape, Vampire Life 2: F.E.A.S.T. (The Last Supper), the Dipset capo prepared a number of cinematic videos that he plans to string together to form one continuous storyline. "I picked, like, eight songs, and I've strung 'em along like movies," Jones told Mixtape Daily back in May. "Something good for people to look at. I haven't seen something like that in a minute. I think it'll be very interesting."
Jones will tell Sway what fans can expect next from him. That's not all: Bronx, New York, MC Fred the Godson will also swing by the "RapFix" set and drop an exclusive freestyle. You're not going to want to miss it.
Catch Ice-T, Jim Jones and Fred the Godson on "RapFix Live" at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday on MTV.com, and be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtag #RapFixLive. Send your questions for the artists to @MTVRapFix!

Before the 'Mad Max' star 'skinned the cat,' Natalie Portman, Demi Moore and more had also shaved it all off for movie roles.

Charlize Theron and her son Jackson
Photo: FameFlynetCharlize Theron made headlines on Monday when she was spotted sporting a shaved head for her role in "Mad Max: Fury Road." The blond Oscar-winner might have been trying to hide the look under a fedora, but it was clear that her locks had been handed their pink slip.
The haircut might have come as a surprise to fans of the "Snow White and the Huntsman" star, but she certainly teased it in a recent discussion about the flick. "It's been three years: It's time to skin this cat already!" Theron said last month during a roundtable interview. "I'm very excited about it."
To see other female stars imagined with shaved heads, click here.
However, Theron is hardly the first Hollywood starlet to shear off her hair for a big-screen role. She joins an A-list filled list of other leading ladies who have also "skinned the cat."
Sigourney Weaver and Robin Tunney
Weaver not only kicks ass and takes names as the iconic Ripley in "Alien 3," but she also sports a super short hairdo. Ripley certainly didn't need hair to hold her back as she battled alien creatures in the 1992 film. Three years later, Tunney donned the look for her troubled character in the classic teen flick, "Empire Records," starting the hair-trimming trend of the '90s.Demi Moore
Moore went Navy chic in "G.I. Jane," lopping off her famous hair to tackle her physically challenging role in the 1997 film. "We were involved and we realized the importance of the event happening — that sign of commitment. ... I was ready for it. So, I feel actually more just liberated by the time we got there," she said of filming the famous scene in which her character, Jordan O'Neill, chops it all off.Cate Blanchett
In 2002, Blanchett cut her hair off playing a vigilante out for justice in "Heaven." "I think you've just got to embrace it," she later said of the look. "You have to be prepared to shed your natural vanity, and if the part requires it, shed parts of yourself that perhaps make you feel more secure."Ellen Page and Natalie Portman
Page joined a cult and lost her hair in the 2005 flick "Mouth to Mouth," which she made right before her star-making turn in "Juno." That same year, Natalie Portman chopped her hair off for "V for Vendetta." In an interview shortly after filming, she opened up about filming the scene. "It was a one-shot deal," she told USA Today, "and that was the most stressful thing about the experience."Cynthia Nixon
Nixon went fully bald for her recent role in "Wit" on Broadway. "I thought it was kind of gonna be no muss-no fuss, but I have to shave it every day!" Nixon said of the up-keep for the role. "It's got kind of a five o'clock shadow, and you don't want to go on with that," she said. "I was always kind of curious to see what it would be like. I like it; I don't think I'm gonna keep it forever."Anne Hathaway
Recently, Hathaway caught everyone's attention when she sported a super-short pixie cut for her role in the latest big-screen adaptation of "Les Miserables." The look is consistent with her role in the film, where she plays Fantine, an ill-fated prostitute who chops off her hair to buy food for her child, Cosette. What do you think of Charlize Theron's new haircut? Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield in "The Amazing Spider-Man"
Photo: Marvel / Columbia PicturesOne would hope that "Spider-Man" stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have "Amazing" chemistry, considering the two started dating after meeting each other on the set of Sony's forthcoming superhero reboot. If the two are to be believed, that chemistry came to them very quickly, as early as Stone's first screen test for the role of Peter Parker's first girlfriend, Gwen Stacy.
"I went and did a screen test that was very elaborate," Stone recalled during a recent interview with MTV News. "It was full hair and makeup and with the [director of photography] and different angles, and Andrew was there. We read a couple of scenes together. We did that scene at Oscorp — 'Why are you here?' — and a sad one."
From there, the easygoing dynamic between Garfield and Stone came almost instantly, both on and off the set.
"We got on really well as people, in between [takes]," Garfield remembered. "That was the fun stuff: In between, we'd just mess around, and I felt, 'Ah, this is different.' I wasn't really aware what was happening in the screen test. She keeps you on your toes, and that wakes you up. That was the beginning.
"Obviously I was so happy that she got the role and decided to do it," he continued. "Those are the days I'd look forward to, you know? For Peter as well, because Peter goes through some horrible stuff in the movie. There's some joy to be had when experiencing his first love."
Much has been made about Garfield and Stone's relationship both in the film and outside of it, but the first MTV Trailblazer winner believes that screen tests are a crucial element not just for establishing a movie's romantic leads, but any other numbers of relationships within a given fictional universe.
"That has to do also with people playing your parents or friends, with anything," she said. "You can sense it. It's like life: You can sense if you guys have a kind of chemistry or rapport right away, no matter what the relationship is, whether it's a love interest or not."

'Let's get going, summer is almost here!' Usher tells MTV News.
By Christina GaribaldiOn top of his club-banging hits and soulful voice, Usher has another impressive skill: creating the song of summer. Usher has ruled the airwaves in the summer for years, with hits like "You Make Me Wanna" and "U Remind Me" making fans roll down their windows and pump up their radios to his infectious tracks.
Most recently, in 2010, Usher hit the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 during the summer months with his inescapable hit "OMG," and now he's looking to repeat that success with "Scream," the second single from his seventh studio album.
"Let's get going, summer is almost here!" Usher told MTV News. "It's intended to be that, but I don't think that was the only thing. We thought about live performance, we thought about mixing and matching and also giving people an energy that only [producer Max Martin] would be able to create."
"Scream" is the latest single from Usher's just-released album, Looking 4 Myself, which he hopes will not only get people on the dance floor, but also affect them in a more personal manner.
"If I'm gonna move you, I want to move you. I hope that it could be something that could be life-changing," the singer last month during "MTV First: Usher." "You may be going through something real crazy, who knows, and just need to get out and just enjoy yourself. So I always think about the club, I always think about that song that will be able to let you out of that slump, if you're in it."
Usher's latest album, which he called an "evolution" of sound, is just the next step in his musical risk-taking. He credits longtime producer Jermaine Dupri with the opportunity to reach many different genres of music.
"If I do track back to the first time I was about to take a risk, even though it wasn't about my direction, it was more so by Jermaine Dupri's direction with 'You Make Me Wanna,' " Usher said. "You didn't really hear that tone or that instrument on top of an R&B record, so it was an incredible collaboration or mixture of urban and classic R&B or pop... that really began to open up the conversation and allow people to understand, 'Oh, wow, this is not just an artist that you could put in a box or put in a specific category.' "

Justin Bieber performs in Mexico City
Photo: WireImageJustin Bieber's free concert in Mexico City on Monday night was welcomed by hundreds of thousands of screaming fans who turned up to be blown away by the teen star.
According to Bieber's camp, there were upwards of 300,000 fans who showed up to see the Believe singer perform.
"The pics of the crowds look CRAZY here in MEXICO CITY!! IM HYPED!! This is going to be fun! MEXICO I LOVE YOU! Te AMO MUCHO!!" Bieber tweeted, later adding, "everything about tonight was special. it is everything we stand for. alot of emotions but it was worth it. 300,000 people. Te Amo MEXICO. NO ONE CAN EVER TAKE AWAY YOUR DREAMS! BELIEVE. DREAM BIG!"
Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, tweeted that the show presented an "iconic moment." According to The Associated Press, the 18-year-old played several tracks including "Baby," "One Less Lonely Girl" (during which he brought a fan onstage) and "Somebody to Love." There were approximately 5,000 police officers on hand to make sure the crowds remained as in control as possible.
"Mexico City, there is a lot of people today!" Bieber reportedly yelled to the crowd at the Zócalo in between songs. "Every one of you is my biggest fan."
While his fans displayed their devotion for the singer by braving the crowd to see him perform, in a press conference earlier that day, Bieber admitted there's only one guy he would camp out to see perform. "There is no one I admire so much to do something crazy, but if Michael Jackson were here," he said, "I would do it for him. So, I do understand the emotion that the girls feel, and that makes me feel very honored."
Before taking the stage, Bieber opened up about the performance in a video he shot backstage. "I can't say how thankful I am ... This show here in Mexico City, it's going to be incredible. I just wanted to make this video and tell you guys you inspire me just as much as I inspire you. God has really blessed me," he says amid the shouts of his fans in the background. He added, "I hope to have this journey for a long time."
Bieber has been traveling the globe and playing free shows, including headline-making stops in Oslo, Norway, and Paris. He will officially hit the road on his already sold-out Believe Tour later this year.

Photo: Getty ImagesCarrie Underwood is the latest public figure to come out in support of gay marriage. Joining the likes of Jay-Z, Snooki and JWoww and the Wanted the country superstar told England's The Independent that she believes same-sex couples should have the same rights as she does.
"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," she said. "I can't imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."
The paper noted that Underwood, who has just released a new album Blown Away has a large Evangelical Christian fanbase and has spoken frequently about her faith, making it the subject of one of her biggest hits, "Jesus, Take The Wheel."
She told the paper that her liberal attitude about same-sex marriage is actually a result of her Christian values, not in conflict with them.
"Our church is gay friendly," said Underwood, 29, who was raised as Baptist, a denomination that tends to condemn homosexual behavior, but who now worships in a non-denominational congregation with hockey-player husband Mike Fisher. "Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me'. No. We're all different. That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody."
Underwood's comments come in the midst of a presidential campaign in which gay marriage is likely to be a hot-button issue. President Barack Obama recently said that he personally supports same-sex unions while rival Republican Mitt Romney has spoken out against gay marriage.
